Awful customer service very rude staff to the point we left before we ordered. Says 5 star on poster but this really isn’t true, do not recommend.

After visiting the WWII memorial places all around Loch Ewe, we stopped at Café Aroma for a quick lunch. We went for a tea and scone for one and a Smoked salmon sandwich and lemonade followed by a homemade shortbread. Service was quick, food was good : very convenient place for a quick lunch on the road. Too bad that the place will be transformed into a vacation rental.

We've visited this cafe since it very first open as we holiday in the area fairly regularly. So, we've seen its evolution. I can only imagine the impact COVID has had on so many business, including this one so I find this review difficult to write. The menu has reduced dramatically, although the sandwiches we had were very tasty. We did feel it was on the expensive side. Gutted not to see hot chocolate on the menu - something the kids always consider a treat to look forward to. Cakes generally OK. Shortbread outstanding but please don't keep the Victoria Sponge in the fridge, it just makes the sponge incredibly claggy and not pleasant at all - sponge should be light and fluffy. The atmosphere was missing. There was no warm welcome at all, no chat from the waitress or the owner behind the counter. I wouldn't say it was rude but so impersonal it was off-putting. It all felt a bit soulless. The retail area has changed dramatically over the years. It was once an oasis of wonderful items in addition to the homemade soaps etc. Where once were glass bottles are now cheap plastic ones with basic labelling. This is such a shame. There is pretty much no other "giftware' stock It's clear times have been hard and that can be soul destroying and, in that sense, my heart goes out to the owners. I am keeping everything crossed that the business can find its footing again and look to restore some of its former glory.

Really worth paying the Perfume Studio & Aroma Cafe a visit when you are in the area!

We wanted a lunch and drove up here whilst coming from Poolewe. It looked quite nice so we stuck our heads round the door and asked for a table. We did not expect the response from 'Mr Grumpy'. No enquiry as to our needs just "Are ye eating or just drinking"? The place was bloody empty???? did it matter? I do appreciate the need for the answer but not the way the question was phrased. The young lady pointed us to a window table and handed us the menu. Took our order and we made our selection whilst Mr Grumpy sulked and muttered in the background. I really could do without that. Considered walking out but dear wife does not like such behaviour so we stayed. The food was excellent, that's the pity. He would do well to take a course in customer relations. And, yes, I know all about staff shortages and other issues. Been there, done that. got the scars after 50 years of being nice to folks. That is what management and service is all about and separates the sheep from the goats. I read fiona's post below and laughed out loud at 'Managements response'. look forward to seeing what response I get. The food is good but there are other places to eat and one bad experience breeds ten others. Word of mouth is great advertising but it works both ways. We will be back. Look out for us.

The cafe is in an amazing location and really bright and modern inside. We'd parked early (08:30) and gone for a walk around the headland and decided to come in for a hot chocolate and light lunch. We were just in the door and the man behind the counter said "Americano or tea?". We said we'd have a look at the menu but we were told, quite abruptly, that that was all that was available and only the food at the counter so don't bother looking at the menu. We were also told it was take away service only but we could sit inside at the tables to eat (?). When we asked why there was limited service, he said it was due to the bad weather and he was on his own. It was very windy but a beautiful sunny day so no logic there. We ended up getting two coffees (Americano obvs but not great) and two slices of quiche for £14.00 which we thought was a bit hefty considering there was no side salad or similar with the quiche. Another couple of people came in but were treated to the same level of customer care and couldn't get out quick enough. When we got back to the car a note had been left under the windscreen saying we had to pay £15.00 at the cafe for overnight parking. It was a massive car park with no signage about paying or restrictions, so this came as a bit of shock considering we'd only been there for 4 hours and we visited the cafe. Needless to say, we didn't pay for parking but the general reception and approach to visitors was pretty unwelcoming. Despite this eyebrow raising customer care, I'd actually go back there as the quiche was very tasty and it became a bit Faulty Towers experience.

Overlooking the picturesque Loch Ewe is the Aroma Cafe, so called as its part of the wonderful perfumery business which shares the location. We had a hot beverage each, and some cake, both of which were wonderful and served by delightfully pleasant staff. It might be worth reserving a table during the popular months as it’s not huge, and due to its location, hospitality and good food, you might be struggling for a seat. A beautiful setting, for some of the best coffee I’ve tasted.

This was a real find, literally at the end of the road. The weather last week was distinctly mixed but the views from the cafe were still impressive and awe-inspiring. We found Aroma Cafe on our last day and we both wished we had visited earlier in the week. As it was we found plenty of temptation in the perfumery and gifI shop and we did not regret our purchases which included face creams, books and a mug. My husband and I dropped in for coffee at just before 11:30 but unfortunately all the tables were either taken or reserved. Not surprising as it was a rather blustery day. However I noticed that one of the reservations had a time of 12:30 hand written on it so I sat down (as it was just before 11:30 and I thought we’d be finished well before the reserved time of 12:30). I’m afraid to say that the gentleman behind the counter said it was reserved; when I said that it had 12:30 on it he stated that it was reserved from 11:30, so we left.

The shop has the best home made stuff and little bits and pieces for your home that is the best on the whole North Coast 500 route. This is a long way ... from anywhere. The road isn't the best (although is not bad by the standards of the area) and it takes a while to get here. But my word it's worth it when you arrive! It says something that people are prepared to travel this distance to get here to eat - it must be good, and it is. The service is absolutely first class, the food is absolutely fresh and is very tasty and the drinks are excellent. But there's more than that about this place. One shouldn't be surprised at good service and good food (although in all honesty it can be a surprise nowadays) so what's really lovely about this place is the care that is clearly taken by the owners on their presentation and their establishment. The cafe - indeed, the whole building - is cared for. It's obvious from the paintwork to the cleanliness of the toilets, to the little poems adorning the walls, to the way that one is spoken to, right through to the quality of the food and the crockery. They just care and that's terrific. The trout was perfect, as was the haggis flan. So was the accompanying salad. The cakes looked great, but we were too full to consider them! The coffee (cafetiere) was great. The prices look a bit high on the menu, but they're not - this is not a burger joint; this is a very high quality establishment.Oh, and the views ... breathtaking!Do come. Make the journey off the A832, especially if you're doing the NC500. It's not that far off your route and you'll be pleased you did.

We visited here on 8 July after a wet and windy hike - marvellous though - To Slaggan Bay a remote beach - absol beautiful and worth the trek - near Laide. We arrived at Aroma and were immediately welcomed - fast & attentive service , very good and tasty food and plentiful. We had minestrone soup which was delicious - and I'm not a soup person . It was served with large basket of crusty bread. This was followed by scone, blackcurrant jam and cream with pot earl grey. Really super place and always worth a visit.

The best food in the West of Scotland!Nice little meals made with love and knowledge served by a friendly team- what a contrast to the mainstream chips paradises elsewhere in Scotland.

Whilst visiting family up here, my girlfriend and I paid a visit to see what mum and dad were on about and it did not disappoint. This place is lovely, offering beautiful views, nice staff and wonderful food. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

Stopped at this oasis and I have to say was rather excited when I saw the mid morning offerings. The staff were very friendly but I'd suggest that they invest in a proper coffee machine or get a better coffee. Also never put scones in a microwave to heat pre serving as they end up as soft and floppy as Mac D burger bun.

A very pleasant place to stop for lunch with a reasonable choice of food. It can get busy and the service may suffer a little at times because of that but not to any great extent. There's really no competition around for a light lunch but it's all fine.

We had heard about this cafe from a Facebook Friend who lives in Altbea, near to Mellon Charles. We were told that it was very good, so we decided to drive there and give it a go. We rang to check that it was open on a Sunday and we were asked if we wanted to reserve a table. We weren't sure what time we would be arriving and declined, but wondered why we might need to reserve a table at a cafe in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived, we realised why.The cafe is set in a building on the top of a raised area of the coast line about fifty meters from the sea, commanding views across Loch Ewe, the Loch where a lot of the Second World War Atlantic Convoys departed from. When we entered, we saw the fantastic range of cakes on display. The cafe was busy and we realised we were lucky to get a table. We checked the menu and saw that there was a good selection of midday meals and sandwiches. We opted for a soup and sandwich each with my wife having Coronation Chicken and me having Brie, Bacon and Banana. The soup was homemade vegetable and was fantastic, as were the sandwiches. It was served with a small salad, salad dressing and a mound of vegetable crisps which were delicious. Soup and a sandwich was £9.75 each, which we thought was good value. The food was probably the most tasty we had experienced on our holiday here and we gave it 10/10.We got talking to the Chef, Kevin who assisted us by directing us to some World War 2 sites nearby which were not sign posted or well known. There is a small gift shop attached selling higher end gifts and shop made perfume which was worth a look around. The business also has a photograph studio attached which we understand gets quite booked up by people doing residential photograph courses. The staff at this venue are very friendly and it's certainly somewhere we'll return. Thanks to Helen R of Altbea for the recommendation.

4 weeks up in the area and we of course revisited our favourite cafe a number of times. Lovely to see Anna and Dave again and this visit to enjoy really good weather so the views outside were so beautiful. The food is fresh and delicious and the service from all the staff wonderful. It's a joy to visit. If you're in the area make sure you find where this cafe is and enjoy some yummy food and drink looking out onto great scenery and take a look round the shop too.

At the end of a winding road you will be treated to a wonderful view and some of the most tempting menu choices you could find in any city cafe. Lovely soups , terrines and wonderful cakes and chocolates, all beautifully presented.. Added bonus is the shop selling a wide range of perfumed goods and other interesting items. Recently opened for the season and well worth a visit.

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings. After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure. As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit. To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t wait to return!
