After a ride on the SVR we got off at Arley to visit the arboretum. It was a lovely afternoon so we decided to get a sandwich and a drink before returning to Bridgnorth on the train. There isn’t a great deal of choice of sandwiches, but what they had was lovely and fresh with lots of filling (ham and cheese) with salad and crisps on the side. Together with a mug of tea it was perfect for a sunny afternoon by the river.

Loverly setting for the Tea Rooms the Garden overlooks the River Severn with beautiful views over the River and Country Side. I ordered a tea, cappuccino, and 2 slices of Bakwell finger cakes. After a long wait, the girl bought our hot drinks out to our table with only one tea spoon for both drinks, and after another wait, she bought out 2 bottles of coke instead of our cakes, not much difference is there. The items we bought were over £12.00 which thought was expensive, along with the bad service and no public toilets we will not be returning.

Nearly fell over at the price of 2 sandwiches. 1 bacon and one bacon and sausage... £14.20. Paid it anyway and really looked forward to the sandwiches, only to be really disappointed it wasn't very nice. Full of thick fat and by husband didn't enjoy his either.

We visited on a busy Bank Holiday Monday, and ordered one Bacon and Egg sw, and two Latte,s. The coffee arrived 15 minutes after ordering, slow, but acceptable on a busy day; however the sandwich still hadn’t arrived after half an hour. On enquiring why, the gentleman in the kitchen told me, the griddle was full, and they were busy, and it would be out soon. Ten minutes later we lost the will to live, so decided to ask for a refund. The very rude girl in the kitchen begrudgingly said she was sorting my refund, and then proceeded to tell me she had refunded my credit card, but having paid cash, this wasn’t ideal. We did get our money back eventually, but no apology Such a shame, a beautiful place; nice front of house staff, and the cold sandwiches looked very appetising as they wafted past us. If you don’t have much griddle space, on busy days, take bacon Sandwiches off the menu. We weren’t the only people complaining about the wait that day, and I am sure a gracious apology, rather than the attitude we received; would go a long way to ensure you get returning customers

I really wish I had read the reviews, (and the owner’s replies), before eating here! We parked up in Arley and went for a walk and decided to have lunch here. Well, it was not a good experience! The food was average, the service slow and it would have been nice to see a smile as well. its a shame as its a really nice spot. One important thing to consider is there are NO TOILETS. The public toilets are now closed permanently and while you may be able to use the ones at the pub, that’s a walk over the bridge and up the hill on the other side of the river. I dare say the owner will add some caustic remarks to this review as well, instead of focusing on improving the food and service!

We have just returned from Arley tea rooms after asking for our money back, as we waited half an hour for two coffees and a piece of cake. People who came in after us were being served. When we asked for our money back we received no apology from the person we spoke to, and were only told, twice, in a most offhand manner that we had not waited half an hour (I can assure you we did). Having read some of the other reviews it is clear that the owners will stand no criticism and show little regard for their customers’ experiences. Lecturing customers and treating them with contempt, as is evident with some of the responses to previous complaints, is not a good policy. Whatever happened to ‘the customer is always right’? We have visited the cafe before and had the same experience but decided on that occasion to sit and wait, but will not do it twice. If the cafe is busy but customers are continually having to wait for lengthy periods, then either the establishment needs more staff or less tables. Blaming the customer for their own poor service is not the way to go, as they will undoubtedly lose custom.

Beautiful location but the staff have a lot to learn, service was incredibly slow. Only ordered hot drinks and a cake, after 25 minutes I asked my money back which they agreed to but the women’s attitude was unbelievable. No apology offered just comments like “you can tell by the queue it’s busy” when I responded to say there was only one person in front of me she replied “well look in the garden that’s how busy we are”!!

I stopped in here on the weekend with my friends on our walk from Bewdley. We stopped for lunch and I ordered a ham salad sandwich and a latte and was very pleasantly surprised when they arrived. The sandwiches all arrived at the same time and were made from lovely thick bread and they were very generous with the filling and salad. The staff that served us were lovely and polite, they were happy to engage in a conversation and we were made to feel very welcome. I will definitely be coming back to try something from their seasonal menu.

Despite the recent bad reviews and rather strong replies from the proprietor we decided to give Arley Riverside Tea Rooms a try today as it was the mid point on our long walk. Sadly when we arrived they were closed. I had checked before I left to make sure they were open and had even made sure I had cash too, learning from the lessons of others! It seems the hours on Trip Advisor don't agree with their Facebook page. That said both of these said they were open, but they weren't. I should have checked the front door before starting the walk, more fool me. My first ever bad Trip Advisor review..... sorry.....

we’ve had lunch here quite a few times in the past. It’s always been just okay, but we came back because of the location and the views. However on this visit we were really disappointed. Firstly, the food was at best average, the bread we had was certainly not the freshest. I also didn’t think that it was not particularly good value, or well presented. Secondly, there have always been umbrellas in the past to shade from the Sun. On this occasion it was a blisteringly hot day so we didn’t stay long as the Sun was simply too strong with no shade. Thirdly as other people have already pointed out the CAFE does not have any toilets. And also the public toilets are out of action. So to sum up not a good visit and it may be a while before we return…

My husband and I were on a visit to Arley today, first the pub across the river said you need a minimum of a £10 spend to buy drinks, So we went here for a cup of tea , but we had no cash only cards and a sign on the shop and on a board saying “No cards Only Cash” so getting a drink in Arley could be difficult, plus the public toilets were out of order and the cafe doesn’t have customer toilets?? Unbelievable in this day and age , Arley doesn’t welcome visitors, by these messages, I suggest people visit the Arboretum where they accept cards and have toilets and make you welcome!,and AVOID these other places.

I went here with the family yesterday afternoon for lunch. We drove up from Bewdley, turning right down the narrow lane signposted Severn Valley Railway at Button Oak. We parked at the bottom of the hill past the train station. Parking is £3 all day but there was no one collecting at the entrance so we parked for free. The tea shop is situated on the other side of the river over the footbridge. The teashop has a few tables inside and others out in the garden at the edge of the river. All the staff were wearing face masks. The tables were nothing special, and neither was the menu ready, just a selection of sandwiches, some seemingly shop bought cakes and other treats and some drinks. We chose to sit just inside the door and had a glass of milk, a bottle of water and a latte. We also ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, a cheese and pickle and a bacon sandwich. The sandwiches are not cheap, but the bread was fresh and very thick and they all came with salad and dressing. My wife had to wait a little longer for hers, due to them cooking the bacon. But they were all stacked and they had not scraped on the filling. Others came while we were there and sat outside. The staff were friendly and nothing like the alleged ogres described in some of these reviews. I think if they gave more thought to their menu and had a wider variety of teas and cakes etc, this place would be a little goldmine, as it's really well sited. We paid a little over £20, which may seem expensive, but hey it's Worcestershire, what do you expect. At the end they drove home in the car while I walked the ten miles home along the river. That was the best part of the afternoon.

Served by a very unpleasant woman who was hiding behind a full face mask and plastic shield. This despite restriction being eased. On one of our regular circular walks from Trimpley we have visited here a few times (August, September and November)and while not cheap, it is after all a small shop in a not too busy area, you expect slightly inflated prices. Anything we have had from here from cake to scones to sausage rolls have been to a high quality. With covid protocols in place we have always sat outside over the road, which is in a little disrepair but does offer a lovely view across the river to the train station so hopefully can be back to offering more seats soon. Next time we do this walk, we will visit here again, that says all you need to know.

Have visited venue. on previous occasions. Visited Arley Tea Rooms on 24th July approx midday. Three staff in Riverside Garden; all tables empty. Asked if they were open and after brief consultation between themselves, girl said yes. Wife went to pick a able whilst I was going to order, told brusquely that we had to order before seating. Distinctly unfriendly attitude that made us feel unwelcome, so we left. Went across the river to the Harbour Inn where staff couldn’t have been more friendly.

Exceptionally rude unfriendly staff. Turned up asked for a table, told they were all reserved from 2pm, but no one had turned up and it was nearly half past 2... When we did eventually get one they intially didn't want to move a parasol without persuading, even though it was an exceptionally hot day. Just general attitude and extremely condescending regarding covid rules which we were already aware of. The scones should have made up for all of this, needless to say they didn't. Main lady should work on her customer service skills.

The waiter and waitress we unfortunately met had the manners of a goat. They earn a living from being polite and showing good manners to customers/potential customers. Good manners cost nothing. They are NOT doing customers a favour, they earn a living from customers. Try good etiquette - Etiquette is the set of conventional rules of personal behaviour in polite society, usually in the form of an ethical code that delineates the expected and accepted social behaviours that accord with the conventions and norms observed by society. If some of the staff at this place don't enjoy the work then resign and do us all a favour. If passing again I would sooner go hungry than call in to this place. I once worked at a tea room and was always polite to customers, it made their experience and mine so much more enjoyable. Seeing customers smiling was great. If calling to Upper Arley don't bother with this place. Nige

We called in today for a drink and decided to stop for lunch when we saw the food that was being served. The sandwiches were on nice thick cut crusty bakers bread rather than cheap thin sliced bread from a supermarket. The fillings were very generous. The slightly higher prices are reflected in the quality of the food.We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, the service was excellent. I even managed to get a beer as they have a licence. A real good find that we discovered while on our walk along the river and we will be back again. Service is a little slow but as everything is freshly prepared with local produce, it is worth the wait. It is a little on the pricey side for food but you get a lot. Sandwiches are minimum £5 as two huge chunks of bread with more than ample fillings. Tea/Coffee from £2-50 to £6-00 depending on choice. All proper cups and mugs though. I had to telephone my wife to pick us up from Arley as we were 20 miles from home and stuck! We decided that we would have a coffee and some breakfast at the tea rooms and had £15 between us; this was not quite enough but the pleasant young man who served us was happy to bill us after as we didnt have quite enough and my wife would pay on her arrival. After about 10 minutes he informed us that the owners had said ‘no money no food’. We offered an i phone or both bikes by way of guarantee to be told NO MONEY NO FOOD. We gave them £12.30 as I had bought a paper from the shop (also owned by the same people). So we had our sandwich but no coffee.

What a delight to be welcomed and served, echoing a fellow 'tripper', without the ubiquitous 'guys' and 'enjoy'! Good value for money and nice views to boot! Well done and keep up the good work. Survival depends on customers and their satisfaction.

My friend and I and our 3 dogs visited, on part of our mission to complete the North Worcestershire path in manageable sections! The service and food were excellent! And we and the dogs were made most welcome. Dog water bowls and fresh water already there in the garden area where we sat. We had mis-timed our walk and left insufficient time to return home for granny duties, and the staff were amazingly helpful in answering our questions about returning on the nearby Severn valley railway. Thank you! Will certainly visit again!

We visited again and were very pleased with the service, food and prices. Service is efficient but not intrusive, nobody addressed us as "guys" or told us to "enjoy". The food we had was delicious and our teapot was a generous size. Prices were very reasonable. We like the situation of this tearoom and its possibilities for indoor (tiny) or outdoor (scenic) seating. We approached from the far side of the river and the rearoom cuts a bold dash on the bank with its red brollies. The steam trains add a nostaligic air to the area.

This is a beautiful little tea room if the weather is nice. The majority of the seating is outside. My friend and I stopped off for coffee and cake whilst walking the Severn from Alverley to Bewdley. The cake was lovely. Reasonably priced. Staff friendly enough. Fantastic views over the Severn and the steam railway.

Wow. Just o Wow. Stopped by for a cup of tea. Hungry, but hey, not expecting a village tearoom to cater for me. But Gluten free bread, a choice of sandwiches or toasties. I opted for the toasties. So we sat on the terrace in the sun, enjoying the river and the steam trains. Excellent food. The staff weren't over enthusiastic, but it was a busy day. Well recommended for Coeliacs. And I love the rubbish bin ideas!

A very good site for afternoon tea and ice cream. Parking in the village is limited so better to walk in if you can

The tea rooms had a lovely view of the river and Severn valley railway which was fabulous on such a lovely day but the food was mixed. Toasted sandwiches as you would expect but we ordered a jacket potato and beans for our young son. When it was served, the potato was clearly green and we sent it back. The next one was also green so we gave up and fed him the beans only. Disappointed they didn't ask why we left it again or offer a refund or even why serve green potatoes

The tea room itself is tiny ( especially if the weather is inclement ) but the garden space is large. The cakes are superb and not expensive. Hot and cold sandwiches the same. The service is prompt and friendly and any wait is down to the cafe's popularity.

We visit here from time to time. Drinks and food is always nice but the staff could be a little more engaging. On our most recent visit our order was 'plonked' on the table and I had to go to the kitchen to ask which coffee was decaf. It's a lovely spot by the river and dog friendly outside too. Always a bonus.

We visited while on Santa Steam special, we found the tea rooms to be much quieter than previous visits probably due to the poor weather conditionsFelt really festive with Christmas decorations and tablewareWe ordered toasty sandwiches which were freshly cooked so took time to arrive but were worth the waitWe didn't have cakes this year as the selection didn't look as good maybe this was due to the poor conditionsNevertheless well worth a visit

The staff were friendly (if not fast, patience is needed when busy), the food was pleasant and the setting by the side of the River Severn was delightful, The experience however was spoilt by the large amount of wasps flying around, My friend and I had to abandon our food before we had really had chance to finish when a particulary persistant wasp ended up swimming in my friends soup! It was such a shame what promised to be a lovely lunch left us feeling anxious about being stung & disapointed that we were driven from our lunch.

The quality of the tea rooms does justice to the exceptional setting. Nestled in the Severn Valley alongside the river, which rolls past the tea room gardens, and opposite the terrific old-time steam railway station, the location has all of the atmosphere of the 1930s (or thereabouts). The tea rooms serve china pots of tea with cups and saucers, which can be enjoyed with a delicious slice of cake or something a little heartier for hungry walkers. The staff are genuinely charming and welcoming, providing service to the garden tables. The beautifully peaceful Arley Riverside Tea Rooms could be my favourite place to wile away an afternoon hour or two in a quintessentially English location - and you can even buy a bag of duck food for just 50p and give them a treat too!

Loved the peace full setting and how relaxing to sit outside on a sunny day and enjoy the river and surrounding countryside with the sound of the occasional steam train in the distance. Enjoyed my coffee for one served in a cafeteria and a reasonable choice of snacks. Orders taken in the shop and delivered by waitress to your table. I had a bacon sandwich and thought that fresh crusty bread would have done it more justice.

Upper Arley Tea Rooms is a little treasure set in the most authentic rural settings! It's true that the weather plays a big part in the enjoyment of this 16th Century eatery, because the majority of the seating is outdoors, but if the weather is kind, there is nowhere more tranquil to sit and enjoy a cup of tea, (or coffee etc), and a piece of delicious cake, a traditional English tea with sandwiches scones and clotted cream. A wide selection of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and othe savouries are also available as well as delicious ice cream deserts, jut to plea the children! Views across the river Severn are breathtaking, while some of the Severn Valley finest can be seen steaming away in the distance. New owners are more flexible with their opening times, so food is available until 5:30pm if there are customers to buy! This is one of my favourite places to be!

Wandered into Arley from the Arboretum - stopped at the tea rooms for a cuppa and toastie. Service was polite if a little slow - but everything was made fresh as the sign says - so worth the wait. Sat in the outside area looking over the river watching the ducks - with the occasional steam train on the SVR chuffing by. Food and drink was good - and a great place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Tranquil!

THE loveliest spot to sit and sip tea, eat cake and sandwiches and watch the wildlife on the riverbank; the odd canoe or steam train ambles past intermittently - a truly sophorific spot

Had a lovely meal here today, they ran out of salad for the burger so gave me some free onion rings which was lovely of them! The blonde girl that served was lovely too! Great customer service 😊

Always warm and cosy. Good choice of real ale, though sadly served a little on the warm side. There's a real fire too, but it's very rarely lit. Walk out of the back door and you're on the platform for the Severn Valley Railway, lovely heritage steam and diesel locomotives.
