Disappointing, fish and chips with peas, peas still raw, chips underdone, fish just OK. My wife had beef which could have been more tender, gloopy weird gravy and tasteless mash... Get some butter and seasoning in there, expensive too

Our group had a fun whiskey tasting with Marion before our excellent meal. Everyone had a different favorite of the five whiskeys we tried which made for a great discussion. There was only one option for me when it came to my meal…and that was the Tam O’shanter burger. Tasty beef patty topped with Haggis and cheddar with a nice deep fried haggis bon Bon on top the bun for the true look of a tam! Perfect meal to end our golfing trip to Scotland. Recommend the entire experience!

So disappointed. The Korean spiced belly pork was 99% soft fat. The batter on the fish was thicker than the fish itself but it was crispy. Carrots were rubbery, peas hard, no taste to the pineapple sauce with the ham. Wrong wine order brought to table. They did change this (!) Friendly staff but all a little hurried and uncaring. From reviews on Google we're obviously in the wrong restaurant.

We decided on this restaurant after reading the reviews and we weren't disappointed. I had the lamb tagine which was excellent. My wife had a starter and main off the daily specials and both were great. The salmon starter had lots of very good salmon, then she chose the freshly landed Dover Sole which was outstanding. Service was excellent and friendly, with excellent Covid protocols in place.

We booked a table at Ardshiel Restaurant prior to travelling to Campbeltown and we were not disappointed. The table service was excellent, great care had been taken to ensure we felt safe from Coronavirus. The menu was varied and everything we had was absolutely delicious - first rate! There is a good choice of wines by the glass or bottle and a selection of whisky that is quite outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Ardshiel and would not hesitate to recommend it. The location is a two minute walk from the town centre.

We had family here and booked tables for a meal Sunday evening at 5pm. We ate out in the beer garden at the back of the hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by Flora who explained all regarding the COVID rules. We received disposable menus and Peter very kindly took our drinks order and Flora very quickly took our meal order. The food was amazing arrived quickly and piping hot. The Squid and Haggis balls were amazing along with the soup one of my friends had. Archies smoked haddock mash cheese sauce is to die for. The steaks were perfect and tender. Macaroni cheese was popular to with my friends. Finished off with puddings rhubarb custard was lovely and strawberry meringues looked good. As was the Whisky ice cream. I would just like to thank the staff at the Ardsheil for a very pleasant evening,to Flora and Marion for making us all so welcome under these difficult times. Highly recommended

Thought I'd try them for lunch, and they didn't disappoint although with a little more effort from a very underworked kitchen they could have delivered perfection.I settled for the haddock and chips. My only criticism was that it should have come to the table piping hot, which it wasn't. It should have all been straight out of the fryer. That said the fish was good quality and the chips were excellent but the garden peas were a tad wrinkly and cold.Additionally, the macaroni cheese was excellent and the thinner fries that came with this dish were surprisingly piping hot. i thought I'd venture into their dessert menu and gave the hot brownies with frozen yogurt and a fruit compote a go. The frozen yogurt was excellent, the rest mediocre and bland. The interior is bright and tartan cheery with oodles of bottles of Scotland's finest falling-down waters adorning every available space. This place oozes old-school charm and this is reflected in the very laidback and mature service which I found both delightful and refreshing.

Sailing crews can get a meal and a shower if arranged in advance. We had the gluten free fish and chips made with the draft gluten free pilsner! The local cheese board was very good. We had sailed into Campbeltown in our yacht and being our 40th wedding anniversary was looking for a nice place to celebrate. Having checked various options we didnt feel too hopeful. It was a Sunday and having attended church decided to just pop in to The Ardshiel on the off chance for a quick lunch and then find a special place in another port. Well what a nice surprise when we did pop in! Being a hotel we werent sure if they did non resident lunches (another place turned us away). We were warmly welcomed and nothing could be a problem. The bar and dinning facilities had been beautifully modernised and they had a theme on whisky. In fact you have never seen anything like it for the range of whiskys (they have over 2000 bottles), beauty of displays and knowledge. We had drinks in a lovely garden then went into a tasteful modern dinning room for our meal which was very nice although not ‘posh’ ie no white tablecloths etc which we didnt mind. Starters was spiced calamari then I had Sunday roast beef with all trimmings and my wife beef shin with mash and veg.The beef was spot on, lots of it and veg cooked well not too soft. The gravy was really good,it had been poured on for us which is a slight negative as a gravyboat put on the table would have been helpful. I did have to ask for some mustard which was quickly brought. The food was piping hot well cooked and plenty. I would not put it in the Michelin star bracket but it was really good quality local food for what we wanted. We ended with raspberry and gin vanilla ice cream which was good, my wife had a coffee liquor with a blended whiskey I had black coffee with a Springbank 10 year single malt alongside it. Very smooth. The whole bill came to £68 which was very good value. One thing that made us decide to stay and have our special meal was how friendly and welcoming the staff were. We really were looked after well and one of the owners who we met at the door really gave us time to explain and show us all the whiskies. Definitely a rare and special place for whisky lovers but also for just a good meal at reasonable cost.

We dropped in on the off chance last night (Saturday), having sailed to Campbeltown. No smart clothes and hair all on end, we weren’t sure they’d let us in! It turned out there’d been a car rally a few miles outside the town that day, plus there was a huge family party celebrating something and it’s not a massive restaurant so they asked us if we’d be okay sitting in the bar rather than the restaurant. We were!

Best I ever had, tender and seasoned just right. My husband had the pork chop and that was very good too. The entire meal was delightful - not rushed, and good wholesome food. We booked into the hotel, we weren't told that making a reservation for an evening meal was advisable. We turned up at 7pm and asked for a table of 2, got a bit of a funny look and told there would be a wait, so that was fine. We sat and had a drink and watched table after table getting served before us. After 50 mins I said to a waitress that we hadn't even seen a menu yet, she informed me that they were all bookings and they would get to us as soon as possible. 5-10 mins later she asked us if we wanted more drinks, I said no. Half an hour later, a different waitress brought menus over. We were soon taken to a table and the meal was promptly served. The meal was fine and the service after was fine too, but it was just the lack of communication. If we had been told the wait would be an hour and a half and that there were pre bookings taking priority, there wouldn't have been an issue. I've worked in restaurants and its not how it's done. Bad management and poor organisation. If we hadn't been staying for breakfast we would have walked out. The owner's have clearly spent a lot of money on the hotel, but the lights in the dining room are full of dead flies and the toilets have not seen a refurb.

Had a great dinner at Ardshiel Hotel. The food was rather classic, but clearly prepared with a lot of care. The turbot I ordered was perfectly cooked and I loved the fact that the vegetables were served separately so everybody on the table could pick what they liked. The crumble I had as dessert was really just the perfect way to end the meal. Very good! The ambiance in the dining area is very nice. I loved the fact that the ceiling is decorated with whisky bottles, illuminated by blue lights. Gave a modern feel to the classic interior. It was a bit chilly where we originally sat, because the door to the kitchen area swung open lots of times. But not to worry, we just moved to another table, which was no problem at all for the staff, who were very friendly and accommodating. The bar also offers an excellent whisky selection, which we were very happy to try. My wife and I had dinner at the Ardshiel during a recent stay in Campbeltown. We'd been told it was very good and very popular, so, not having booked we expected it to be busy. With this in mind, we weren't surprised when we were told we would have to wait and perhaps we would like to have a drink. We sat down in the bar and waited. Eventually we asked one of the staff if we could see a menu, since we couldn't find one on-line, and the very friendly young lady said she would have to ask the manager if it was OK for us to see it. That seemed strange. We sat and looked at the menu as the couple at the next table, who had arrived after us were served their food in the bar. After over half an hour's wait, we were taken through to a half empty dining room with no indication of why there was such a delay. If the problem was the pressure on the kitchen, then why not say so, it certainly wasn't a lack of tables.Being half empty, the dining room lacked atmosphere and there were obviously other disgruntled customers as well. The food was good, haggis balls, smoked salmon, scallops - all good, as was the wine - a Picpoul de Pinet. The staff were friendly, the management less so.Another reviewer talks about the manager running 'a very tight ship'. Maybe they should relax a bit, let the staff do their job and find out why they are having problems and delays in the kitchen. We started the evening with high hopes and ended it frustrated at what might have been. Very disappointing - there are better restaurants than this in Campbeltown.

This is a must visit for anyone looking for a good portion and fine meal. The decor is stylish and comfortable leaning heavily to the tartan, which adds to its charm and atmosphere.

Were here for dinner, two evenings after each other. The food was good and well prepared. Staff was very friendly. Their whisky bar is great and they have a very wide selected of Scottish distillates, also on the high end quality side. For whisky friends definitively a place to go.Thanks, enjoyed the evenings.

I had dinner here with a friend while staying in Campbeltown. We both really enjoyed our evening. The hotel has a lovely layout with the whisky bar opening into a high ceilinged bar/dining area which leads into the restaurant overlooking the garden. It all feels spacious, elegant and airy. Our meals were excellent. The service was a tiny bit on the slow side but it didn't matter because the staff were very welcoming and helpful. My sirloin steak was superb and my friend had smoked haddock on champ. Make sure you're properly hungry before you dine and it's probably best to reserve a table.

We can't comment on the food because we were never able to place an order. We sat at our table for 30 minutes and finally gave up. I asked the staff what the problem was on the way out, they said that they would have gotten to us eventually!

Booked dinner for 18 people, no necessity to preorder food & the use of a purpose set table within the restaurant, their private room being used.Waiting staff unfazed & food verity was good.A truly excellent whisky bar within the hotel is a must.

This is a very nice restaurant. They smoke their own food, which is lovely. The smoked duck is great, as is the salmon fillet. The lamb shank was truly enjoyable as well. Then there is the whisky bar: heaven!

A hotel restaurant with an award winning whiskey bar. The food was good enough for a small detour but the real gem was the whiskey bar, it had "everything"!

Whenever I am in Campbeltown I visit here. I am always more than satisfied with the service and meal. There is a lot of choice on the menu and the whisky bar is worth a look (and sample!). I have personally not stayed in the hotel but I have heard from family members that it's a great hotel. We will continue to use the Ardshiel when we return to the "toon"

We have been to this hotel many times when visiting Campbeltown. On this visit we rang in the morning to book lunch for 13 people, there was no problem accepting us. As always the staff were very friendly, the meal was excellent as was the service. We will definitely be back on our next trip.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

When open (it has now closed permanently); it was a great wee eating house! We went there often. It will be sadly missed, used by many locals, tourists and organisations as an affordable restaurant.

Food was ok but feels like you eating in a church hall.. bar ok but tiny and no space and full of dogs at the time People blocking the doors in and out
