This is my first experience here to meet a colleague for coffee. The staff were lovely, and they informed me of the roast dinners prepared and served at a reduced rate on a Tuesday for local pensioners. How lovely and amazing is that! I managed to have a couple of roast potatoes that were left over and would highly recommend them. I also had a wander around the garden furniture department and observed some beautiful pieces. Worth a look.

We went inly for the play area. We bought grazy golf but that was pointless..the moment my 3 year old saw kart's and sand pit she wanted to go there. She played there for 2 hours. There are slides, climbing rope, kart's, sand pit with some things in there. The place was very quiet between 2-4pm.

Just queued for food - one side was closed so a bigger queue on the snack side - asked for the gardeners breakfast ( full English) at 11.04 as if took a few minutes longer to queue ( their fault) - girl behind till informed me breakfasts finished at 11.00 am - she checked with kitchen but breakfast was closed at 11.00 am - so then I ordered my wife her choice of a toasted sandwich ( Brie and cranberry ) but told they are only sold from 11.30 am 😩😩🤣🤣😩😩🤣🤣- so came away with two coffees and observed a line of unhappy customers- duty manger called but no help whatsoever other than to say they are looking at it for the future - poor attitude to add to ridiculous rules of when certain foods are available - not your finest hour Twenty Pence - you may have been voted best garden centre - but not by us who will now go elsewhere to find something to eat !!!! We spoke to one of your employees called Alyson with a Y not an I.. She said that.. She was lovely and told us all about the twenty pence garden centre and recommended the pizzas... They were delicious ... She even passed the Dexter test which is a rarity.... You have a credit to your team there with Alyson with a Y.. Well done and thank you.. PS the kids cheated at golf....

This is the first time in several years I have visited this garden centre. A lot of money has obviously been invested in bringing the restaurant and shopping facilities up to date. We visited on a Sunday and had some food and had a look around the retail area. The food was nice, but the service area was badly managed and organised. Staff were serving customers in a disorganised way which was confusing and also annoying. Though the tables were generally clean in the restaurant more attention should be paid to ensuring the space is also clean too. The retail area holds lots of interesting gifts and gardening tools, plus BBQs, plants, etc. In all, the place is well run, nicely kept, but it's a shame about the annoyances in the restaurant. Prices here are higher than Dobbies or chain garden centres but that's kind of what you expect from an independent.

Cheese scones in the cafe are £4 for one. If you head over to the pizzeria area, they sell the same scones in packs of 2 for £3. They were doing chicken sandwiches at the cafe for £12! And a very dry and sad looking full English was a rip off too. I really don’t recommend coming here it’s so expensive. The service was also really slow which they advised was due to training staff. This is fine when the food is decent when you actually do manage to get served, which was not the case.

It's OK. Lots of markup on a multitude of items that by comparison elsewhere is a bit eyewatering. There are certainly some nice things here but in terms of manufacturing quality the are a bit substandard Food was cold and tasteless. Had the curry which for the price was unacceptably small in terms of a portion, more akin to a child's portion. The wait at the till to get drinks and pay adds to the food getting cold by my food thermometer read 29.8 degrees Con the curry and 23.2 degrees C on the rice. The Naan bread was inedible and could served as a clutch plate in a car.

Date of Visit: 02/03/2024 - The queue for the cafe (not the pizzeria one, which is what we initially came here for; but were put off as that was practically empty with not a pizza in sight) was VERY long and it took absolutely ages for anyone to get served. The two young boys who were on the till and serving coffee and cake were dressed very smart and were polite, but had no help whatsoever from any other staff members. There was about fifteen customers in the line and growing, but with such a small behind-the-counter space; perhaps more than two staff would have made it a bit tight. Our table was full of crumbs and the chairs were the same, although there was a nice young girl wiping around the one I chose to sit at. It is definitely worth mentioning that none of this was her fault as she was going as fast as she could, but I had to wipe it myself in the end with a napkin. The coffee was above average but my Millionaire Shortbread had ***FAR TOO MUCH*** caramel in (see photo) which made it ***WAY TOO SICKLY*** to enjoy. My wife didn’t make really any comment about her cheesecake either, so for that reason I’ll rate it as average on her behalf - Unfortunately we won’t be returning, which is a shame as we were so looking forward to trying the pizzeria at some point :(

The garden centre offering itself is nice enough, they have a wide range of products and some of the pricing is very reasonable - there are always some interesting things to tempt you without breaking the bank. They do a great loyalty card scheme and special events like the Christmas late opening and discount offer events too. What really let's this place down is the cafes, in particular the staff customer service skills. On far too many occasions I have experienced poor service ranging from unhelpful to downright moody and difficult. If you have a request which is even remotely out of the ordinary, like daring to ask for onions in a toasted sandwich combo on the menu which doesn't feature them (when other combos do, so ingredients are clearly available) you get met with sighing and responses like "we can't do that" or flapping and having to ask a supervisor. Yes, it's asking for something slightly off-menu, but given the £10+ price tag for a simple panini and drink, a minor addition of an available ingredient is hardly a big ask. As it happens on this occasion, they even gave me the wrong panini altogether and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of complaining given previous times I've tried to have an issue rectified! That's not to say everyone is like this but in general, the staff need some rigourous customer-facing service training so that things like this and the frequent bored/disinterested attitude and can't-do attitude aren't on show. Here's one piece of training for free: If a customer tells you their cakes before their drink order, don't give them attitude, refuse to do it and say that you have to do drinks first. Learn to be flexible, not reflexively rigid and unwilling to assist! We complained about this behaviour and were met with a defensive "sorry if it seems that way to you" - my second free tip: learn to listen when a customer is reasonably telling you that you got something wrong and don't essentially tell them their complaint didn't happen! We've had some really poor experiences with the quality of the food on occasion too, including yesterday when a posset desert was drinkable it was so poorly set. The member of staff we told stirred it and went "oh yeah" and walked off, no offer to rectify it or anything. I hate writing negative reviews and always try to look for the positives, but the simple fact is that if they had better customer service skills and attention to detail in their cafes then this review would have been an easy 5⭐ one but yesterday's poor customer service was just one time too many.
