My husband and I read the menu, liked the thought of excellence, envisaged lovely food, so went in for lunch. The staff were lovely, the food was not. The soup £4, turned out to be tinned Heinz soup which had to be reheated as was lukewarm. The half sandwich with the 1/2 soup 1/2 sandwich - for £6.50 - was just some ham in a slice of white precut bread which had been folded over rather than cut in half, so it looked like something a child would have thrown together. The coffee had to be remade as it was lukewarm. My son happened to call and when I told him where we were he said he and his wife had exactly the same experience two weeks before. It has a sign saying they are going to be under new management soon - will wait for reviews before trying it again as this was one very expensive mistake!

My husband and I called in for a coffee and cake. The coffee was weak and the cappuccino had about 1mm of froth on top, rather than the correct third of espresso, third of milk and third froth. We couldn't even finish them which is a first for us. Sadly the chocolate cake was poor, although a good size. The bill was quite pricey for what we had.

Visited for the first time today and definitely won’t be returning, My son got a chicken & bacon baguette, the baguette was not fresh & very chewy with far too much mayonnaise! He ate half & left the rest! I ordered a jacket potato with chicken & bacon which was on the small size and wasn’t particularly warm! For £18.20 including a coffee, can of coke & a portion of frozen chips if was not the quality of food I was expecting. There are much nicer places to eat.

Popped in on a rainy morning and we had lovely tasty filled baguettes. Served with salad and crisps, well worth the region of a fiver. Coffee and earl grey was of good quality. Five versions of chip toppings, hot food and choice of cakes makes this a thoroughly recommended visit in my view. Will be back for sure..

We went here today looking for somewhere nice to eat.Hubby ordered the breakfast, not bad. I had the Chicken Royale. Chips were lovely but the Chicken Burger tasted like rubber and smelt like a smelly sock! I would say cooked in the Microwave. My daughter liked the look of my chips, so I called over "Excuse me" to the 2 staff members behind the counter, who were too busy talking to hear me. The younger member of staff was apologetic and said she would be right with us. So I ordered a portion.....they were awful! Soggy!!My first drink a diet Coke was a warm can, my daughter wanted a drink so we ordered 2 more but to our relief were cold this time.We ate our food because we were hungry and had an appointment to get to. Whilst sitting there a member of staff said to a colleague "No we don't want any more Customers, it's time to go Home!" Bit rude and made us feel uncomfortable. My husband had finished his meal and popped outside after settling the bill to have a cigarette and take a phone call,Rude member of staff came over and started clearing the table and went to take my daughters plate of chips (touched the plate) and she hadn't finished eating. Never spoke to us and not once during the time we were there were we asked 'If everything was okay' or ' would we like any sauces or anything else'.Definitely wouldn't recommend. I did tell the staff that we thought they were rude and as we left the building they started slagging us off! Charming behaviour.....

Called at this cafe recently while on a shopping trip to Carlisle. Ordered a cappuccino & scone. This was about 10am & only two customers inside which maybe was a clue to the quality of place. Cafe was clean looking & tidy enough, but the cappuccino was the worst I've ever tasted, couldn't even finish it. Scone was nice & fresh but at £5.10, felt it was very expensive. Wont hurry back.

We went into Carlisle on the train and had spent a good three hours shopping and needed a bite to eat. We decided on a light bite and stumbled across this cafe. The cafe was spotlessly clean, and the waiting staff were immaculately dressed a good start. The menu is mainly a snack menu but they do cater for vegans which again is a major plus point.I ordered cheesy bacon chips and a pot of tea and Trish had an egg mayo baguette with chips and salad and a caramel latte. The food was fabulous, very fresh, hot and plentiful which along with the excellent service makes this a great place to drop into. For just over £15.00 it was also fabulous value. Well done Annie & Co, first class and recommended.

Chose this newish place thinking it looked clean & lots of seats ...the signs said things like .. homemade, local, fresh, butchers own etc My friend & I ordered lasagne. It was horrendous - we took one look and knew - no way fresh or homemade! Presented in the white dish on the white plate with the copper chip basket. How awful - the lasagne hardly filled half the dish and we realised it was an oven ready processed lasagne split between us both with some grated cheese put on top & melted!! Unbelievable!! As for the home made coleslaw - disgusting. The rocket was not rocket but mixed leaf, dry and flung on.Chips had orange tinge& were definitely a cheap frozen option.

Went friday lunch time and greeted with a very friendly hello but with a warning that a few tables arrived just before us, so she will be with us soon, but might be a small delay. But all done politely and with a smile so we appreciated this, plus gave us longer to look at the cakes. Wait wasnt long at all and we ordered two teas, one tea cake and one scone. Arrived soon after, tea cake was reported as lovely, but the scone was oddly salty, but still nice enough. The price was very reasonable, so would go again.

We popped in for breakfast. My husband had the Cumbrian breakfast and I had scrambled eggs on toast. The sausages were not Cumbrian...cheap and tasteless with a low meat content, the bacon fat was not cooked and the scrambled eggs microwaved. £12.50! Not worth half that.

This was a disappointing lunch. If you cannot get good cumbrian sausage in Carlisle you'll have to go south or across the border. This was the cheap sausage sold in a whorl in low end supermarkets. Probably the worst I've ever had. Not excellent. The breakfast included tinned tomatoes - really - who does that as 'excellent'.

Low point of our day out in Carlisle: overpriced, understaffed; mean portions and lack of attention to necessities. Will remember not to revisit.

Called in late afternoon for a snack, first thing that hit us as we walked in the door was greasy smell of food our spectacles even steamed up! I don't know if they have any extractor fans, but they need to turn them on! All the way home in the car the odour from our clothes was disgusting, Sorry would not return.

Can safely say the poor review is wrong. Went in here for a Nice lunch out of the rain. A very helpful young lad saw us struggling with the pram and helped us in. Already a big point in their favour. Looks bigger than it is from the outside but we managed to get in and sat down even with a pram. Ordered and food was served quickly and was absolutely delicious. Both had baked potatoes and they were done perfectly.

Nice service but not the cleanest. Sat on the sofa which had a dip in the middle and had lots of crumbs down the side which really put me off my drink and would be reluctant to buy food.

Fast friendly service. Bought 2 lattes and large cookies. The cookies were delicious and tasted like homemade. There are places to sit both inside and out, with outside having a little canopy to keep you protected from showers or when the sun is blazing and you need a bit of shade while you enjoy the weather and view.
