Anker fish bar in Tamworth

The worst Chips in Tamworth in my opinion. I visited a few months ago and actually returned the food and received a full refund. I dont imagine this happens very often at Food Takeaways, but I live nearby and was happy to feedback my thoughts. I put that bad experience down to it being late in the day at a busy time and left it at that. Today (4th December 2023) I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. Big mistake. On display were some unappealing looking battered items and some SF chicken. I opted to avoid the dry looking sausages and scallops, and went for a plain sausage, 1 piece of chicken and a portion of chips. At the optimum open time of approx 17:40pm, I thought I'd be ok. Wrong again. I've eaten the chicken and I'll let you know tomorrow how that works out, the Sausage followed and seemed to be ok. But the Chips went straight in the bin pretty much as soon as I unwrapped them. Scabby bits of funny coloured potato at best. Some were grey in colour, and totally inedible. I took a photo and thought I'd write my review publicly this time. It doesn't seem like things have improved over the past few months, and looking at their Facebook page they are keen to sell this Business. Hopefully someone puts the local residents out of their misery and takes on this once great Chippy, invests in a Chipper machine and brings back fine fast food to this location soon.

The worst double cheeseburger I have ever ate. Didnt even finish it was awful. Meat it was disgusting.

Nice friendly staff, fast efficient service. No ridiculously long queues. Nice tasty food.

Just ordered food from these the chicken leg was pink all the way throw it and the pie was freezing cold I highly don't recommend them will different not be going back .. love to know how they can serve food like this

First time using Anker Fish Bar after being highly recommended and I can honestly say, lovely staff and fab fish and chips. Will definitely go back that's for sure 👌🏻 💯 happy full bellies. Oh and portion sizes were huge 🌝👍🏻. Kindest Regards Lisa literally just bern in today xx

Was visiting the area to buy a car and decided we would have a look for something to eat, found this little gem. Myself and my daughter were welcomed by 2 happy & friendly staff. Food was amazing, atmosphere amazing. Highly recommended if you're visiting the area 👍

Had two roe and chip specials which was absolutely disgusting.

Have been using them the last few times and I can honestly say the food is very good.only had kebab and chips but it is nice and enjoyable. Keep up the good work. Would recommend to anyone.

Ordered Cod n Chips and everything was delicious just like the old days a lovely Saturday night meal. Delivered to the door within in twenty minutes hot and I will be certainly be using them again Thank you Abelia Amington

Only came in for a bag of chips and curry sauce, wow , seems these days delivery drivers get preference , lady behind counter eating the chips , Guy on phone coughing into his arm and picking his chin .🤢

Very poor. Fish under cooked soggy pale batter. Soggy chips. Pasty rock hard. Best but is the peas and curry sauce. Update: feeling very unwell now possible early signs of mild food poisening..

Seriously gone downhill...rubbish!!

Donner meat was oily and bitty. The chips were soggy and no Chips with large Donner meat and chips x2. Had to ring up 2 times due to 1st one charging us £31 for our order and them 2nd call £23. Use to be a lovely chippy and now it has defo gone down hill

Had lovely lunch here, large cod and chips, beef and onion pasties and chips,savoly and chips and chips and batter bits all absolutely amazing nice portions and friendly staff, highly recommended a visit.

Ordered from here last Friday and what can I say. The fish was so fresh and battered to perfection, the chips were lovely too, my partner had a mixed kebab which was a real good size, I tried the donner myself and it was gorgeous as well as the chicken kebab, which sometimes I find isn’t that nice from other places, but defo will order from here in future! 10/10 best chippy I’ve had in years

I'm sorry but we ordered 2 large fish and chips and we got very small portions. That and 2 curry sauce... £21! Very poor show. There's barely any chips in the left one...

My mum had some chips and mini fish special i had a few and my chap they wer y nice hard buts no flavour in the oast we had them rhey wasnt cooked properly are the potatoes diffeeant ines

Staff were so friendly. I had a mini fish special and the peas were so yummy they were homemade , fish was crispy and soft inside very nice and chips were good like always. My husband had the homemade onion rings which were fresh and homemade as well and had some curry sauce with it. Food was nice and hot. I would recommend here to other people .

Went in last night for fish and chips very plesant and nice couple of ladies said i would give a review honest opion fish was over cooked and dry chips could be better will i go again not sure

Went in there today and the ladies told me to wait for them to cook my food, as i was waiting outside i watched the 2 "ladies" for 10 minutes straight picking their noses and putting their hands in their mouths and scratching their armpits and just being genuinly dirty and then started messing with my food so i went in and asked for my money back, i cant stand and watch you do that and expect me to eat the food you are messing with. Within 2 seconds i recieved a load of abuse from the ladies they started shouting and swearing and being extremely nasty, i do not know how on earth these "ladies" are even aloud to be out in public with their behavior. Absolutley disgusting, i will not recomend to anybody they are pure savages in there. Propper spotty greasy dirty ladies

Beard v food ate here,I need a trip to Tamworth,for a smaller portion of Fish and chips.

Chips were uncooked/abit soggy, chicken still abit pink and over all didn't taste very nice

40 minutes late cold food had the big foot deluxe 1/2rasher of bacon instead of three will not order again

Bad, very small “large” fish, not a good taste, most of the chips were black inside, had a scallop and the potato was completely raw, had to wait a fair while for chips while the rest of the order sweated on top of the friers and pretty expensive. I usually avoid town centre chip shops as they are usually bad because people out on the town don’t really care about quality and are a captive audience, against my better judgement I went there as a change from our usual excellent George’s chippy on the recommendations of a family member (who I will be suggesting uses our chippy from now on, they will be amazed with George’s if they think this place is good!) Safe to say I will not be returning.

Had the black country chips tonight, also had a bit of everything else whilst I was there. The pizza crunch was lovely, the battered saveloy bits were fantastic 10/10 and the fish scallop sandwich kinda thing I had was on another level. Wicked food and would defo recommend. Polite and friendly staff I would also like to add. Will be going back for sure.

I ordered donner meat and chips. It seemed to arrive as a plate of grease with a side of chips and meat. Far to greasy.

Plugging "black country chips" all over Facebook, actually being from the black country and wanting some proper chips went out of our way tonight to go there only to find that they only do them 2 nights during midweek and none of the advertising actually says this..... misleading. No salt and vinegar which was was asked for, large mixed kebab meat and chips was small for the price, sauce was not what I asked for and batter on the fish was really greasy. Generally it was ok food but for me average at best. Can't really understand the high rating.

Ordered through tamworth eats. The order was late we called up and they said they were busy which is fine and it came about 10 minutes later. The order was wrong we received 3 sausages and 1 piece of chicken instead of 3 pieces of chicken and 1 sausage and we didnt receive any black country battered chips which we were really looking forward too. We called twice but couldnt get through. Not great. Wont be ordering from them again.

We tried here tonight... Just to see if it was as good as people were saying.... It was! Chips were so nice. The ingredients from our kebabs were really fresh and tasty. All staff members friendly and attentive... What was even better... It was 20% cheaper than the place we usually went. Definitely will be going again

Great food, amazing stuff and also very cheap

Great service, not at all expensive and a great range of freshly prepared meals. 90% of stuff is cooked to order, served with a smile and cheery conversation. Would definitely recommend that you have a try, and see what you think.

Been today to order some food. I had 3 scallops ( potato was raw ) I had a special if sausage chip and curry sauce which wouldnt of been enough for a 5 years old! The chip looked like they had been microwaved and didnt taste much better! Very poor wont be going again!

We have just eaten the biggest and best fish we've ever had anywhere, we actually struggled to finish it, Chips were lovely too, curry sauce really thick. Little boy loved his freshly cooked burger too.

This chip shop is amazing, fish freshly cooked when you want it, chips lovely not greasy, staff very friendly, above all else its spotlessly clean. Love the food in here.
