I was in London this past weekend for a friend's engagement and took the opportunity to take myself for lunch. I was very happy with my choice. It was a Saturday lunch but I was the only person dining the entire service. Worked for me as a solo diner. The restaurant is very minimal with scandi vibes throughout the furniture and jars of fermentation everywhere. It was very calming. I was made to feel welcome and not like some idiot eating by themselves! The tasting menu was varied and very clean. I enjoyed a starter of beans, courgette and other veggies in a pork broth and absolutely loved the sourdough bread they produced here. The cod dish was warm and cosy, split with various oils and harbouring crispy bites at the bottom and more green elements. I thought the twist on a lemon meringue pie was clever and I was surprised at how nice ants were to eat. A mental hurdle but they were actually brilliant! The Dorset snail supplement came presented with cucumber in an incredible rose shape, a testament to the skill of the chef(s) here. I also enjoyed the fact that each did had little surprise elements that really added up, like hits of compressed apple or strawberry oils amongst other aspects. Big props to the team here, really lovely restaurant and fantastic food. The menu was varied and interesting and I enjoyed a few hours of solitude in an otherwise busy world. My only criticism is that wine portions were absolutely tiny for the price but I'm from the North where glasses are larger for the same cost! I would certainly revisit again, no questions asked.

Anglo Our first visit to Anglo in October last year turned out to be one of the dining highlights of 2023. Well I can honestly say that our return visit on Saturday will take some beating in 2024. The imagination , creativity and skill of chef Anthony Raffo is nothing short of genius as he puts together some amazing dishes using the very best British produce. To match this you have manager / sommelier Marie Danzavilliers with her absolutely amazing friendly service and drinks pairings that complement each course perfectly. The restaurant is only a short walk from Farringdon Station on St. Cross Street. When you enter you will see that it’s a small restaurant seating between 14 -18 guests. This is why they can manage with a a very small team giving you friendly and personal service. You will also see an abundance of jars which are filled with all sorts of pickled ingredients. Their food style is from foraging and pride themselves on not wasting anything in order to create more fabulous dishes. Our return on saturday started with a lovely welcome from Marie before showing us to our table. We decided to have a drink while we looked at the menu and chose the Earth Ale Spicy Weiss beer and the Strawberries on Sea gose. The menu is Eleven Courses (including snacks and petit fours) priced at just £85 pounds and there is also a supplemented dish if you so wish. This I have to say is one of the best value for money Tasting Menu’s you will find anywhere. There is also a Drinks Pairing which is Five glasses for £49 pounds that believe me is well worth trying. There is a choice of a smaller tasting menu at lunchtime. We opted for the full tasting menu with the extra course and for myself I chose to have the drinks pairing. This began with our first snack of a drinkable White Cabbage , Hampshire breed pork , parsley and rapeseed. This was followed by the second snack of the Norfolk sand carrot which was very clever indeed. Now it was time for the bread which is the Anglo Sourdough with yeast and wild mushroom. This leads to the first course with a wine pairing and oh my god what an absolute delight it was to. The Yorkshire Leek with potato , ramson caper , tunworth and three-cornered leek. The depth of flavour was incredible and something you’ll find in every course. The pairing was a 2022 Skin Contact “Maria” Madeleine Angeline from the Renegade Winery in Bethnal Green , East London. This was followed by my personal highlight of the day. The Line Caught Cornish Cod , hay , cauliflower , hazelnut and sea purslane was quite simply stunning. The cod was matched perfectly with a 2022 Le Besson , Domaine Batard Langelier from Loire , France. Now it was time for the supplemented dish of Hampshire Trout , wild rocket , herring roe , purple sprouting broccoli , broad beans and goat’s curd. We then moved on to two Duck courses with the first being an incredible Devon Duck doughnut with a fabulous walnut purée. This was followed by the amazing Devon Duck , hogweed seed and swede. The wine pairing was unbelievable because on its own it was ok but with the duck it became soft and fruity. This was a 2020 Biografico , Uve de Vida from Castilla-La Mancha , Spain. Now it was time for the cheese course and it was very clever and delicious. The Somerset Montgomery Cheddar with Isle of Wight black garlic and walnut amazingly tasted like a savoury tiramisu. The pairing was a Pure Mead from the Loxwood Meadworks in West Sussex. Your palate was then refreshed with a Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb with gherkin , dill and oxalis. Now it was time to finish was an absolute genius of a dessert. It was a Jack Buck Farm Celeriac ice cream with a charred celeriac skin and a meringue. The pairing was equally fabulous in the form of a sweet apple Somerset Ice Cider. We then finished with a coffee and petit fours of Hay fudge and beetroot. This brought an end to an incredible dining experience where the food was outstanding and matched with fabulous drinks pairings. I really can’t recommend a visit to Anglo highly enough and will be looking forward to returning myself again soon. This is an intimate little restaurant where you get to chat with the team throughout. Considering how prices of menu’s are rising this is unbelievable value for money so why not book your table now. Tasting Menu - 11 Courses (including snacks and petit fours) priced at £85 is exceptional value for money. Wine Pairing - 5 Glasses priced at £49 is also great value. Thank You Anthony and Marie for a truly amazing afternoon and look forward to seeing again soon.

I've been coming to Anglo every so often for many years, and every time I ask myself, why I don't come more often. This is an absolute gem on the London food scene, serving up bold, innovative tasting menus, pushing culinary boundaries while still remaining accessible. Recent combinations of leek and Tunworth cheese, cod and hazelnut, duck and hogweed seed, often using unconventional and foraged ingredients, were mind-blowing. The near audacity of cheddar and black garlic ice cream, and a celeriac-based pudding bordered on out worldly. All of this accompanied by thoughtful service, including from the chef, and a homely, intimate space, make this one of the top culinary secrets of the capital.

Was planning on going to this restaurant and i booked through opentable, unfortunately me and my partner got into a car crash on the way to the restaurant so we couldn’t make our appointment. I contacted opentable the next day and the restaurant and explained the situation, due to the 100£ no show policy. Opentable very understandable, polite and they took off the no show status from my booking and asked to contact the restaurant, which i did, however i encountered someone very unhelpful person. They were just keep saying that they cant do anything even though that opentable already removed the no show status. Kept pushing to book again after i told them we are still in hospital. After couple messages they just keep ignoring me at this point. Very unprofessional would not recommend dining here just due to staff professionalism. Outrageous

This was our second time at Anglo. We were celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. We came back and will continue to come back because of the whole experience you get at Anglo. The food is incredible. Inventive and you can feel it comes straight from the heart. The service is also flawless. Just like the ambience of the restaurant itself you feel welcome and completely at home. Having eaten at other establishments of similar high standards it can feel stuffy and uptight. Not so at Anglo. The wine paring is amazing value and really elevates the dining experience. Being served some of the dishes by the chef himself is a wonderful touch and again makes the experience even more special, personal and intimate. Thank you Anglo for another wonderful evening.

Visited Anglo for lunch on a Saturday in mid December. Everything was exceptional and a fantastic value tasting menu for London. My wife is coeliac but she wouldn’t have known there, gluten free food made seemlessly including homemade gluten-free bread. We opted for the lunch tasting menu, paying extra to add the Oyster. Food was outstanding for each course. All was presented impeccably and tasted fantastic. The duck courses in particular were some of the best we have had. The location is about a 15 min walk from Oxford street but inside the restaurant it’s very relaxed and very intimate venue with not many tables. The service as perfect. Each course explained and often by the chef. They talk about low mileage sustainable food and that’s something they certainly deliver on with so many ingredients either grown by them or foraged that very morning. The care is what sets it apart. We are lucky enough to have eaten in various nice restaurants and had tasting menus and we have paid a lot more for a lot worse! Look forward to coming back to see the menu again soon!

We were so impressed with this restaurant! I went with my husband for his birthday. The tasting menu was next level tasty with powerful flavours. Everything was perfectly cooked and we were particularly impressed with the chefs commitment and inventiveness when it came to only using British produce particularly when it came to the desserts. Highlights for us where the sourdough with yeast and mushroom butter, the Montgomery cheddar ice cream, the Devon duck with bramble and the fermented squash sorbet pre dessert. The restaurant is tiny with a very friendly and attentive front of house. I also thought the music was set at just the right level so you didn't feel you had to talk quietly so other tables couldn't hear your conversation. £85 for the basic tasting menu was excellent value for money and left feeling satisfyingly full.

This was an incredible dining experience. I’m no foodie but even I could tell the food, and the wine pairings, were incredible. The simplistic decor ensures the food takes centre stage. The front of house / Sommelier was welcoming and knowledgeable. The head chef presented some of the dishes and the care and thought he’d put into them was clear. He forages for many of his ingredients which was so cool! The wines were a really interesting journey through England, France and Italy. Some of the food was crazy! Cheddar ice cream, yoghurt snow, three-day-cooked pine cones… but it all worked so well.

An earlier review has already provided a detailed description of all the courses we experienced so all I can really say is this was an exceptional meal for a very reasonable price. The menu accurately lists the ingredients for each course but this cannot convey how they are presented and combine to form a series of incredible flavours. Top marks go to head chef Anthony and also to Marie in front of house who was knowledgeable and engaging. The wines we had were excellent. We look forward to returning soon.

This was an exceptional lunch and one that will live long in my memory. Chef / Owner Anthony Raffo and front of house / sommelier Marie Danzavilliers have created a no waste menu using only the finest british produce , foraged ingredients and natural wines to bring you a very creative and clever dining experience. Anglo is set of Hatton Garden on St. Cross Street just a short walk from Farringdon station. It’s a small modern casual dining room that caters for around twenty people. This is why they can manage with just the two of them plus another chef and pot washer. On arrival we were given a lovely welcome by Marie before being shown to our table. Once settled we quickly looked around the restaurant to see that it is designed like other casual but modern dining rooms with minimal decor. It was also noticeable to see all their fermentation jars. We decided to start with a cocktail while we looked at the menu. Here they only serve a tasting menu where you can either have the full eleven course (including a supplement dish) or the smaller lunch tasting menu. You can also choose to match the food with the wine pairing which is just five glasses so you don’t feel you have to rush each glass. We decided to opt for the full tasting menu with the wine pairing. This started with Norfolk sand carrot , walnut a soup like dish full of flavour that you would have never tasted before. This was followed by the Crown Prince Pumpkin , broad bean , hogweed seed , thyme. Next to arrive was the Anglo Sourdough with a yeast butter , wild mushroom spelt that was absolute heaven. Our next course was the Leek , seaweed , onion , greenhouse herbs , black garlic , curd , ramson a truly amazing dish with incredible flavour combinations. This was paired with the first wine pairing a 2022 Skin Contact wine from the Renegade Winery in Bethnal Green. Another fabulous dish was to follow in the form of Lincolnshire Smoked Haddock , cauliflower , hazelnut , three cornered leek , celeriac , herring roe. This was paired with a 2021 French Riesling from the Alsace. Now we moved on to the supplemented dish of Hispi Cabbage , maldon oyster , gooseberry , nasturtium , bramley apple , spruce and absolutely clever and imaginary dish from the chef. Next to come was the main course of Devon Duck , sunflower seed , isle of wight smoked garlic , honey , spring onion , kale , yogurt. This was paired beautifully with a 2021 Cannonau Tenuta from Sardinia , Italy. What was to follow was a very clever and delicious cheese course of Somerset Montgomery Cheddar , pickle , dill , potato. This was paired with a glass of mead from Lowwood Meadworks in Sussex. Now we needed a palate cleanser and what a delight it was to. The Squash , oregano , mint , sorrel , hampshire rapseed with optional corniish black wood ants. It was now time for dessert where we enjoyed the British Buckwheat , berries , beetroot , raw honey paired perfectly with a blueberry wine from Lutton Farm , Northamptonshire. A coffee and petit fours of Pine Cone and toasted hay fudge brought an end to our amazing lunch. This was an incredible dining experience where the food was imaginative and very clever from Anthony and paired perfectly with amazing wine by Marie. I really can’t recommend a visit to Anglo highly enough. The Full Tasting Menu is priced at only £85 and the wine pairings at just £45 making this also excellent value for money when you consider the quality of food , wine and service. I will definitely be keeping my eye on the the menu so that I can return as soon as possible.

We have been lucky enough to eat at some really nice starred restaurants and this one is totally up there with the best. The imagination and presentation of the chef was literally breath taking. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had, with very inventive dishes and wonderful service! I went alone and had the dinner tasting menu. Sometimes, I find that it's a bit awkward doing tasting menus alone, but the server was fantastic and was just the right amount of talkative. There were some absolutely phenomenal courses (e.g. broccoli, trout), some great courses (e.g. lettuce/cauliflower, lamb), but also some misses for me (including the scallop supplement). Overall, I really enjoyed the food and thought it was well worth the price. On top of that, the atmosphere and service were top notch, making this one of the best fine dining experiences I've ever had.

I was concerned the food looked a tiny bit pretentious, but you can't really complain when everything is this yummy, and the staff are so lovely! Strongly recommended.

I booked Anglo as a treat for my husbands birthday. I booked it as it was a reasonably priced taster menu with wine pairing. Didn't know what to expect but it went way beyond our expectations, the food, wine, service was all AMAZING. We both said it was a the best meal we ever had and we eat out a lot. The menu is seasonal and very creative but most importantly, so tasty. It really was an explosion of tastes artfully put together by the chef. Thanks to Marie whose service and knowledge on the food made it a very special day.

My husband brought me here for lunch on my birthday 17.2.23. It was a sublime experience. The food was so beautiful, each of the 11 plates a sensoral work of art. There was something spiritual and ritualistic about the experience for me. Thank you, I know we’ll return with our family 💕🙏🏻

Probably the best tasting menu we've ever had, and we've been to a lot (including Michelin starred ones). The flavours are varied and exciting. It's a small restaurant with a small staff, which seems to add to the hidden treasure feeling of the place. The head chef (Anthony) is hugely talented. The level of craftmanship in his food is off the charts. An amazing attention to detail, and a real understanding of what flavours work together. Particularly impressive is how you can taste every ingredient in every dish, nothing ever gets lost. The service Marie (the manager) provided was equally incredible. Very warm and welcoming, and hugely knowledgeable about each dish and wine on the menu. She really seemed to care about every diner and their needs, and never once seemed stressed or flustered. I am honestly mystified as to why Anglo isn't drowning in Michelin Stars, since the skills on display are truly world class, and the flavours and ideas are a step above the starred tasting menus we've experienced, without the stuffy atmosphere! I can only implore you to give them a visit. We expect to be coming back in a few months, as their menu changes with the seasons to make use of the best seasonal produce. We're immediate fans of Anglo, and can't wait to get back there and experience even more new flavours and ideas.

We visited on 15th Feb and had a fantastic meal. There was only one option, for the tasting menu, which was very inventive and used seasonal British produce. Each course was truly delicious and service was excellent. Get in while you can, as a Michelin star can't be far off.

Loved our experience here. The food was all interesting and creatively put together, most importantly the food was all absolutely delicious. Stand out was the cheese course, served as an ice cream with parsnip crisps.

One of the best meals I've had in Europe. This restaurant is well on the way towards its first Michelin star, and I'm sure that the second won't be far away after that. The menu is exceptionally well thought out, the wine menu excellent, the service flawless. I cannot recommend it more highly.

Solid experience all around. Deserves a Michelin star. Also, at GBP 80 for a 10-course tasting menu, I think it's probably the best value for fine-dining I've had in London. Plenty of places in town charging 3-4x more for a far worse product.

This is a hidden gem. Went there for my birthday. The place is for special occasions and it is not on the cheap side but hear me out. It does not have a sophisticated interior, I would even dare to say it is very modest, so this is definitely not a selling point but once you start the chat with the waitress or you see the first dish, you forget about the walls or anything that is around you really 😅 So we had a 10 course tasting menu. The food was sophisticated, in addition it was paired with special wine, so we ended up trying a few types of wine and I think that is the moment I really felt how much of a difference it makes to choose the right wine for the right dish (or the other way around 😅). Even though I am not much of a wine lover or that kind of sophisticated food, I enjoyed the experience very much. And now, nothing remains for me to say but to post a few photos so that you can see what I mean 😅

Sensational. The most innovative and delicious tasting menu we’ve had in London. Makes for a truly interesting and memorable evening. We both agreed it was better than the three Michelin star restaurant we went to a few weeks prior. We’ll be back for my birthday this year!

An amazing British experience. The staff was very lovely and explained every dish that came out. They used all locally sourced produce and the meal was excellent. It was a little quieter when we went mid afternoon, so it felt like he had a private experience. The aesthetic of the restaurant matched the food in that it was clean and beautiful with a scandi feel.

As always beautiful meal and excellent service. Anglo has relaxed and cosy atmosphere and delivering excellent fine dining experience. Not many restaurants are able to achieve that. Food is very creative and seems to scandi influences. My favourite was the beetroot dessert, not only outstanding taste, but also beautifully presented. Excellent finale to a tasting menu.

Anglo presents exceptional dishes that are thoughtfully planned, artfully prepared, warmly served, and delicious to experience. The passion and skill of the Anglo team is far under-rated. Five stars does not do it justice. Do not miss this hidden gem!

It’s quite a surprise to discover this small restaurant, wedged into an unprepossessing street between Leather Lane and Hatton Garden. The only clue on the quality ahead a Michelin 2021 plaque outside. A refreshingly simple interior with well spaced tables, overseen by the delightful and welcoming Marie. She creates a warm atmosphere, where you feel the key guest receiving the charm of her smiling hospitality. Totally unstuffy and unpatronising, and bursting with genuine enthusiasm for the dishes originally created by chef Mark Jarvis, and now designed by Anthony Raffo, Marie guided us through the alternatives and possibilities. The individualised menus really only list the ingredients - indigenous and seasonal - so each course’s arrival and appearance is a rare delight for the foodie imagination. We had eight courses on the lunch tasting menu, and it was impossible to say which was best. Each one was superb - ingenious, stunning and a delight both to the eye and the palate. A single stem of asparagus (transformed by Anthony with a cep reduction to a marmite) became the most subtle statement of complementary flavours, for example. The ice cream was made from Tunworth cheese. The purple dessert explosion was enhanced massively by a beetroot base. Too many revelations to list! The wine pairings emphasised English producers and were impeccably chosen- by Marie with imagination and expertise that we would never have matched. Our lunch, with only the shorter menu, had us swooning over the absolute supremacy of these dishes for over two and a half hours. A gourmet thrill not to be hurried. When Marie kindly introduced us to Anthony (in what seemed a tiny kitchen!), and we were able to tune into his aspirations and philosophy, we were totally sincere in telling him that our lunch had been “the best meal ever”. This judgement was not lightly passed, after many pleasurable decades of eating out in London and further afield. We will be back, soon, and hope to see the Anglo team soar deservedly from strength to strength. This restaurant deserves to be a destination for anyone who loves food and is fascinated by the magic potential of delicious ingredients to excite and delight through the alchemy of a highly gifted chef.

Loved this place. Incredible flavours and textures, even the colours of the dishes. Super elaborate, with dozens of new flavors for us. Even the staff is incredible, the waitress was so passionate about the food that made the experience even better. I was also surprised about the vegetarian menu, quality of the dishes was as superb as the normal menu, which you don't see in many places.

Fantastic place! Possibly the best dining experience we've ever had! Lovely atmosphere, very down to earth and friendly, whilst maintaining the fine dining feel. The lady who was serving us was such a lovely person, it was really refreshing. No rush, very chilled but also just attentive enough. Food was amazing. So much thought in each dish and some really unusual combinations which worked so well. We also tried the wine pairing which was brilliant. We don't really know much about wine, but you could certainly taste the difference. We've tried a few different places for treating menus and fine dining in the past, but this really stood out from there others we've tried. Would highly recommend it! Especially if it's something you don't do often or having tried before - definitely worth the investment :-)
