Angkor Soul in Stockport

Fitted us in on a Saturday night with a last minute booking. Lovely cosy atmosphere, incredible food and good portion sizes. The starters are a little pricey but the quality and flavour of the food is excellent.

Went for dinner on a Friday evening at 7.30pm. At 9pm after finishing main course asked about a dessert, told kitchen is closed. We weren't advised the kitchen was closing and it was only 9pm on a Friday!! We had wine to finish and they were stacking chairs on tables around us. Customer service not good, won't return. Food average.

Booked for three of us here for lunch and the food was amazing, I had the bang bang cauliflower for starters and I never knew that cauliflower could be transformed into something so delicious! I also had the prawn with lemongrass which was equally delicious! My husband and our friend also enjoyed there dishes very much. The lady that served us was lovely, very friendly and helpful and we will definitely be back again very soon 😊

Delicious food, all looked good so asked for recommendations and loved the Lok Lak and Fish Amok. Would definitely go back.

Visited on the recommendation of a friend about a month ago - and been twice since. Menu is really extensive, with brilliant veggie and vegan options, as well as a "diet" range. Food is superb, however the service deserves a special mention as it's flawless. The waiter was attentive and efficient, polite and friendly, without being "too much", a balance that is hard to find. Thank you.

Recently ate at Kambuja and our meal was excellent. Can't recommend enough!!

Superb, charming, attentive service, though discreet. We enjoyed an excellent meal with family having a wide ramneek of freshly prepared meals from the interesting menu. Food arrives a sit is cooked meaning that it is super fresh and was uniformly excellent.

This place is absolutely amazing the food is phenomenal. Our waitress was Martha who was really on the ball and looked after our table beautifully 😍 I'd highly recommend this fabulous place

Could not fault the food nor service. Although Cambodian, the menu leans towards Thai and everyone in our party of 4 really enjoyed their meal. Really busy place, so you need to book.

Our first time visit. The food was good, but not exceptional as I was expecting given its reputation. As for portion size, the "small plates" seemed to be the same size as the "large plates" but without the Jasmin rice. The service was good and you didn't feel rushed in any way. Don't get me wrong, we did enjoy it but weren't blown away.

Every time I come here, the food is so lovely. Portion sizes are big and there is a separate vegan menu with lots of different options. Flavours are great, and the service is really good as well. Only thing is that the food on my last visit I found the chilli a bit too much. Prices are okay, but slightly on the expensive side for me.

Very busy but lovely food sorted a table though we hadn't booked even though it was lunch time. Would highly recommend but would advise to book.

Lovely food but once arrived we were told we only had the table for 90 minutes. Thus was a special occasion and we had no choice really but had a lovely meal .. very rushed however and felt under pressure to finish. Such a shame as the food was lovely.

Probably the best Southeast Asian food around. The food is super fresh, well cooked and well priced. I like that they have a huge vegan menu, and is a bit more unique and sophisticated than your standard Thai where everything is sweet, and same old same old no matter where you go. Authentic Cambodian dishes with some other Southeast Asian classics. Highly recommend.

We had a 3 course meal here and everything was very tasty, we tried quite a few different dishes, both starters and mains. We will definitely be going back. Fabulous experience.

I first went to kambuja in 2019 and since then it's been my favourite restaurant and I wish I was joking when I said it was one of the reasons I moved to Marple. Love you more than you'll ever know, kambuja xx

Have eaten here several times for lunch and in the evenings.Always enjoyed the food and the prices were good. However last night the food was bland and the prices have increased markedly. The service although friendly was somewhat erratic, one of us given a plate of food which was then removed to another table. I would be reluctant to return which is a pity.

We really enjoyed our meal here: high quality, tasty and nicely presented. It was really nice to taste the range of Cambodian dishes - quite different to Thai and Chinese. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially helpful to a member of our party who has got reduced mobility. Thank you. Kambuja has got a nice relaxed atmosphere and well spaced seating.

Food delicious and they were happy to reduce the spiciness to suit our tastes. Service friendly and swift. Informal family friendly atmosphere.

We were made welcome by the staff. Drinks order taken quickly and delivered promptly. Given plenty of time to trawl through the menu. One of the party is vegan and delighted by the number of starter/main options. Great selection if food which was well cooked and presented. Particularly liked the fish options. The meal was extremely good value. Definitely a return visit needs to be organised.

Great food but disappointing service. I'm so sad to be writing this review as my previous experiences here have been wonderful. We took 2 friends tonight to eat in Marple, table of 4. ² Our drinks arrived fine, including a small ( 1 person serving £8).of prosecco. We ordered 2 small plates to share and our 4 mains and the waitress read back our order to us. Our small plates came out, one of which was wrong, this was rectified immediately and we were also given the wrong order for free ( which was not expected and very nice ) . Main course arrived for 3 of us. Then waitress came back to say she had forgotten to put my order through and ask again what it was. Everyone else ate their mains whilst I waited for mine ( which to be fair came out as quickly as.they could make it). After this we ordered 3 desserts. Two desserts came out and we had to ask again for the lime posset we had ordered as well. My husband paid the bill and left a tip, as we decided after all everyone has busy evenings and bad days and the food was still delicious. When we got home i double checked the bill (.as he mentioned it was higher than he exoected) to see that we had been charged £28 for a bottle of prosecco and not the £8 for the one person serving I received. Yes we should have double checked at the time and that is on us, but it really just added to the disappointing service we experienced tonight. Not the standard of service I expect really of such a usually great place.

We're having a weekend in Marple and were looking for somewhere that had a vegan menu. I'm so happy we found Kambuja! The choice of vegan options is really impressive and the portions are good. We used the click and collect. Our food was ready on time and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant was busy which shows how popular they are. We highly recommend Kambuja.

We live in Phnom Penh and on holiday in Manchester , Lok Lak was the best I’ve tasted for a long time , nice cosy atmosphere

I’d love to try it out, but I called to book and was told “1 minute”. Four minutes later I was left listening to background restaurant chatter.. I eventually hung up after I realised I’d been forgotten. I tried to get back through but no answer. If I manage to make a booking I’ll amend my review, but my first experience was not a good one at all if I’m honest.

Delicious Cambodian food. Never had this cuisine before but it's absolutely delicious. I actually prefer it to Thai. There's more of an added dimension to it. There's a whole Vegan option list too if required. Yaum! Booking is essential although take away is also an option.

SEE UPDATE BELOW - BEWARE 1st Visti - Wow!! What an absolute hidden gem we have here! After we stumbled upon this restaurant by accident we weren’t disappointed- absolutely delicious!! The menu was wide ranging and catered for our plant based diets plus also had a meat selection for our company. The food was all round great with fair sized portions and service with a smile. The actual restaurant was lovely, cosy to a degree (could always be improved) and small and quaint enough to make this simply a great place to dine! Would definitely come here again! 23rd Sept 2023 - Lunchtime - UPDATE- Wow what a difference! Came for my dad’s birthday and sadly the service was absolutely shocking. The lady who served us was so rude she was practically ‘telling us off’ for choosing items on the menu. She was unhelpful, rude and downright impolite and we were all shocked. She couldn’t have done less for us. Also, the ordered food came out wrong - no apology and they even tried to charge us for the items on the bill. Shocked!…what an absolute disgrace - won’t be coming here again now

It’s so great to have quality Asian food in Marple. Everything was so tasty. We had the cauliflower, jackfruit bao bun, kari, and chicken vermicelli. Excellent.

The food tasted great but if I was owner of this restaurant I would have been embarrassed to put something like this on customers table. For the £11 and the pictures presented on the menu you would expect more. The portions sizes are so small. Shame that restaurant with potential can not look after their customers. Unfortunately would not come back.

Such a lovely restaurant to come to. The food is authentic and so tasty. I love that they have a vegan menu too with some amazing dishes on it. We’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a taste of authentic food. The staff here are also super friendly and lovely.

This was our first visit to Marple and we hit lucky with Kambuja (Angkor Soul). The reviews I've seen do not really do the place justice. The service is excellent and the staff very, very freiendly. The food is beautiful - spicy but not excessive. We would thoroughly recommend it, but booking is essential.

The food is amazing! However the restaurant could do with some improvements, paint is quite tatty round the edges and dirty kitchen door other than that it’s a great place to eat

Always love the food from here, whether take away or eat in. A right treat for the taste buds... so glad this place weathered the lockdown storm. The waiter was really helpful with suggestions, we were so slow to order due to nattering away, but 2 hours was still plenty of time for 2 delicious courses.

Very disappointed. Ordered a takeaway for 2 of us. I had the Loc Lac which was not very good. The steak was tough and chewy to the extent that I gave up and left half of it. I have had some wonderful meals from here including takeaways but this one was a let down.

Love the food here, it is so tasty. I've been to the main restaurant a couple of times however I often order from the stall in The Produce Hall in Stockport. I recommend to anyone looking for delicious Cambodian food. I have taken all my friends and often recommend it to people whenever we talk about food!!

Great restaurant in marple. Good food choices , reasonable pricing and awesome service. One negative is lack of information to the food options , some people will need a photo to aid the choice. Also we was asked that we vacate the table after 2 hours , which wasn't ideal and a bit of a evening kill

Thankyou for providing the most stunning, memorable food for our staff party, everyone absolutely loved it . It was a resounding success - delicious, exciting dishes, and all dietary needs accommodated with no fuss or restricted choices either, just great!

Wonderful meal and service managed to squeeze us in for a table for 2 on Sat evening. Beautiful quality meat the lamb was melt in your mouth and lovely light batter on the mushroom starter. Wine also very good. Highly recommend will defo pop in again on our next trip to Manchester from Gloucester

This place was recommended to me as great for coeliacs and I certainly wasn't disappointed. 5 GF starter options, 9 GF mains options and 2 GF dessert choices. I had the GF Angkor Cauliflower which was really big for a starter, followed by Cambodian Kari which was crazy full of flavour and finished with Sticky Black Rice. The staff were brilliant, instantly asking "intolerance or coeliac?" when I mentioned gluten-free options which really put me at ease, as well as just being generally really lovely friendly and helpful.

Just enjoyed a delicious lunch from here. The menu looked small but this helped me choose one of each thing. I can recommend the crispy spring rolls, the Mekong steak sandwich and the Angkor noodle bowl with Tofu. So good! All for under £14 too. Thank you.

Our favourite place to eat...great, no fantastic food. Always book a few weeks in advance if you want Friday or Saturday evening. We take friends from London there & they also think it's amazing. Another plus is the pre owned record store downstairs. This evening we are having a click & collect take away. Will be so pleased when we are out of lockdown 3 & we can go back to eating there...

Had our first take away from here this evening and it was fantastic. One of the best meals we have had in a while.

Me and hubby work chaotic shifts and have small kids so it’s not often we get to have lunch together, so we really appreciate when we find somewhere that ticks all the boxes and gives us a truly lovely experience, and we were not disappointed!The restaurant is a delight, on the small side but cosy, all staff were COVID compliant and can I say that to be so warm and friendly while wearing a mask isn’t easy but your staff made us feel completely looked after and welcome from the moment we arrived and were attentive throughout.The food is delicious... I wish I could remember exactly what we had ... mine involved noodles in a coconut curry sauce and it was a delight, really warming and hearty and perfect for the cold weather we came in from. My partner is quite fussy but devoured his entire plate within about 5 minutes. I managed to sneak a taste before it was gone and it was so flavoursome! The bao pork bun was a real treat and my partner had the summer rolls which again, he demolished. The drinks were also lovely, I do enjoy when a restaurant offers more than the standard soft drink selection. We had ginger beer, lime and soda and both indulged in an iced Colombian coffee, which was scrummy.To be honest if you had a dessert menu we probably would have got something from that too (the portion sizes are more than enough, we are just greedy!).Thank you so much for a lovely meal, we will certainly be coming back!

Awful place. Vegan dish was served with meat in. Awful customer service upon complaining. If you don’t believe what the customer service is like just check out the managers responses to the negative reviews on tripadvisor. I’d imagine he/she thinks it’s amusing. It’s not. They’ve closed their other site and it’s hardly surprising. Avoid at all costs.

My partner and I drove 30 mins to this restaurant in hope of an authentic Cambodian experience.While I am vegetarian, my partner is not.We had a lovely starter, and the staff were great. The mains came and there was meat in my curry, meat ( not meant to be part of the dish but had clearly fallen in) I raise the concern with a member of staff who loudly asks her colleagues what it was before going in the the kitchen.After almost 10 minutes of pondering, they bring my plate out to promise the dish is not meat (it was) and if I wanted my plate back that’s fine - if not they would make me a new one.I requested a new one but meanwhile, my partners food goes cold.We are then given 30% off the dish that had the meat in but not the full bill..... when we raised the issue with the waitress she half heartedly apologised, muttered have a good eve and walked off.Absolutely shocked. If you are vegan/vegetarian I would be careful. They clearly do not separate meat and veggie dishes.

On their website Kambuja / Angkor Sole proudly boast about being the only Cambodian Restaurant(s) in Northern England. So I was happy to make the 1h 20m round trip to have dinner with my partner. Upon arrival there were two other tables seated - two people on each - so it wasn’t an overly busy Wednesday night. We ordered food and starters came in good time. Once the mains had been served my partner found something in her vegan dish that looked a lot like meat. Upon calling over the waitress who suggested it may be mushroom (it clearly wasn’t - but fair play for giving it a go!), she retreated into the kitchen and was gone for a couple of minutes. Upon arriving back at the table with the plate she promised us it was Seitan. A vegan meat substitute.....We had our suspicions. IF it was Seitan it wasn’t supposed to be in this dish! The waitress then asked if we would like the meal recooked. Obviously we did as why would we want a dish that has been cross contaminated. Unfortunately during this time waiting for my partners food to reappear mine had began to go cold. Being honest the mix up with the food had ruined the evening as an experience. Upon asking for the bill and the waitress asking if everything was okay, I explained to the lady that coming out to a restaurant shouldn’t be a decision of eating on my own whilst my partner waits for her recooked food or letting mine go cold so we could eat together. In addition I pointed out that the restaurant was far from busy so it’s not as if a mistake happened in the heat or service. It just seemed sloppy. She didn’t seem interested and walked off. At a time when the hospitality industry is on its knees and those with disposable income still able to spend money in these establishments, you would have hoped that there would be a unsurpassed attention to detail and a desire to offer customer service that would make people want to recommend others to visit there. This wasn’t the case. To summarise, at best, the kitchen aren’t cleaning utensils when serving up different dishes... at worst they don’t take their commitment to serving vegan food very seriously and cross contamination is a massive concern in their kitchen. As stated at the start of the review, I drove a 80 minute round-trip to visit this establishment, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t cross the road to eat there.

We have always been impressed by Angkor Soul because the food was fresh, imaginative and well presented. We used its takeaway service while the eat-in side was closed during lockdown. Now that it has opened again (albeit with fewer seats) the food is even better than it used to be. We have just finished a really enjoyable meal. Both of us had vegetarian dishes. We are omnivores. The speciality of the house is vegan cuisine; so you are offered a choice of vegan or vegetarian because the restaurant genuinely wants to respect your preferences and convictions. (The difference is usually whether you get eggs in the food.)In case you are wondering, Cambodian food is a bit like Thai, a bit like Chinese and totally unique. Finally, Angkor Soul seems to be renaming itself as Kambuja, so don’t be confused if you see both names.

Had a meal here again last night all 4 of us had something different all dishes 100%perfect service and atmosphere excellent. Cant wait to go back
