My wife and I dined at the Angelus on Friday 20th Aug 2021. The restaurant is one minute from the Royal Lancaster hotel and also Lancaster Gate underground. We had starter and main course and were so full we could only share a pudding. My starter was butternut soup and my wife had the scallops, both with traditional baguette and both very tasty. For mains we opted for the boeuf bourguignon which was fantastic: lots of tender beef, vegetables firm and not cooked to a pulp, and a lovely rich gravy. For sweet we shared Pear Belle Helene, pear with chocolate sauce and caramel ice-cream, again beautifully cooked and presented. The wine list was extensive and we selected a bottle of Crozes-Hermitage which went particularly well with the main course. This is my 1st ever Trip advisor review, but I felt I just had to share this 'secret' restaurant. The whole meal was absolutely delicious with attentive service throughout. The pub itself used to be frequented by Churchill before closing, so nice to see the building retained and still full of character. We can't wait for an excuse to go back!

I walked in to Angelus at 7pm on a Wednesday evening. The place smelt musty and there were no other customers - bad sign! The staff were friendly but the menus they gave us were tatty - ridiculous to charge what they do for the wine and have a wine list that is ripped & dirty. The whole place has an air of being out of date and forgotten about. My food was average at best, though I think my friends liked theirs more than me. The smoked salmon starter was fairly bland and the duck confit was so salty as to be almost inedible. And something gave me a very upset stomach, whilst I will still in the restaurant. Not pleasant. Awesome location for those travelling in/out of Paddington. But for me the convenience still does not make Angelus worth visiting unfortunately.

My wife and I dined at Angelus for the first time, having for years been more or less regular customers of the pub previously located in the same premises, luckily quite carefully redesigned into this fine dining restaurant. Our evening could hardly have been better, exquisite food and wines, perfect service, prices perhaps not the lowest but wholly appropriate for what we got. But be warned, this is not a large place, do book in advance!

If you are travelling west from Paddington and want to meet someone travelling from the city on the Central Line, this is an ideal location. It's 6 mins from Paddington and 3 mins from Lancaster Gate Tube Station. The food is just great, staff friendly and the decor has a certain old fashion charm. The pan fried Sea Bass with vegetables can only be described as excellent! We will return.

Across the road from the Paddington entrance to Kensington Gardens. Particularly friendly and warm staff. Our thick salmon and tuna steaks were cooked to perfection. Lots of fish options available, and good vegetarian choices too. The wines are pricey - including many in the high £000's - but there are cheaper options by the glass or half bottle. I'd willingly return.

Whilst undecided where to eat, we tried a few restaurants close to our hotel in Lancaster Gate (Corus Hotel - see review), which were either closed or fully booked. But we happened to stumble across the Angelus Restaurant. Firstly we asked 2 x local gents sitting outside drinking, enjoying the hot evening, if this was a nice restaurant. I mean, the menu on the wall looked amazing and too the gents credit they highly recommended the restaurant. So we went in and was offered a table. Straight away we loved the look of the place, the eating area was well maintained and clean and tidy. The service was very personal as the waiter could not have been more helpful and offered assistance by guiding us through the menu. I decided on the Sirloin my partner opted for the fish. This she loved as it was cooked to perfection, as was my steak. The meals came out in a timely manner from starter to dessert, leaving both of us feeling very content. We both loved this place and will definitely plan to return on our next regular visit to London. History; previous to this French restaurant it was a bar (Archery Tavern) which was frequented by the greatest leader of all time - Sir Winston Churchill

The starters were all ok.. the duck brûlée offered so much but barely delivered, the scallops were well done but nothing special and the snails were bland. The deserts- the pistachio soufflé was nice, the raspberry and passion fruit tart was ok but was actually a lemon tart with a few raspberries shoved top. This lovely restaurant has been turning out beautiful, tasty food for almost a decade now. The ingredients are seasonal and wonderfully combined, and the piece de resistance is the rich and sumptuous duck liver crème brulee. There is a very reasonable £41 three course set dinner menu, but to taste the crème brulee you have to go a la carte, a sacrifice worth making. The wine list is well chosen and good value at every price point. We tried both red and white house wine, both delicious and with a story behind the label. The charming owner and his staff are welcoming but not over solicitous, and diners are allowed to chat happily, uninterrupted by competing background music. The space is a sensitively done pub conversion, exquisitely decorated and currently sporting elegant Christmassy red ribbons and sparkling red baubles.I thoroughly recommend Angelus for a romantic meal a deux or a convivial meal for family and friends. A gem perfectly positioned between Notting Hill and Mayfair.

Initial impression most favourable: former pub, good lighting, quiet though busy. Alarm bells began though when staff had to be asked to provide napkins. Service was very slow, firsr course delayed because " chef was unhappy with the mousseline and decided to start again". Main course served just before 10 - we'd arrived at 8! We were starving and ate it regardless of quality. Duck was overcooked and tough, mackerel was cold but also burnt, skate covered in soggy batter which did not mask the strong taste of ammonia, 4th dish was o.k. had it not been stone cold. Starters were merely disappointing lukewarm underseasoned soup, overcooked scallops, dull terrine. We were with old friends and no one wanted to spoil a happy occasion with complaints at the time. we really should have made a great fuss. Angelus is a candidates for Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. A real pity because it seemed so charming on arrival.

Not bd, but I came here with a big expectation. A neighbourhood restaurant in a converted pub. One of the waiters was very distant. The other was very accessible. Nice amuse bouche. Taste of the monk fish and duck were great. But the fish lacked in cuisson... it was too dry for the quality they pretended. The duck had a chewy part. Not a big deal, but for the price and standard they appear they think they have they did not do a price according job.

Absolutely utterly dreadful food. Probably the worst meal I have had food-wise in London in the last 10 years. Hugely overpriced for utterly diminutive, tasteless portions. Embarassing as I had taken some friends visiting from overseas.

As a special treat for my husband's birthday, I arranged for the Chef's Table. We were only in London 3 nights before our cruise, so I was hoping for a unique, fabulous evening. Well, it was much better than I expected! The food was fresh and delicious, the staff friendly and professional. Best of all, they asked my husband if he wanted to help prepare our dinner! I've never seen him so happy to be in a kitchen!! I would definitely recommend this unique, delicious restaurant!

Having read the reviews and seen the keen pricing, I had high hopes for an enjoyable and quality meal with great service; None of which escaped above average. Style with no substance and no flavour. Service was soulless. Portions were small and I left hungry after two courses. Amazed they can get away with this given the range of competition in the area. They certainly ought not to get away with the prices they charge.

Went back for a lovely mid-week dinner and was pleased to see that the amazing food and service is all still very much alive and well at Angelus. We had the duck liver and scallops to start and then the lamb and halibut as mains, accompanied by some lovely pink champagne. Dessert was a lovely selection of cheeses with wine flight.Service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Totally professional and faultless.I am very pleased to see that they now also do an all day brunch menu - am already planning to go back to try it!Would definitely recommend a visit here as a special treat for dinner and have recommended this place to friends who have all loved it just as much as I do!

I’d missed, my lunch, missed the afternoon train and faced a 3h wait till the next off-peak train out of Paddington. I despair of finding anywhere worth calling a restaurant in the Angus Steak Bar land around the station, but Angelus, between Sussex Square and Lancaster Gate Hotel restored my faith. The 3-course set menu option, smoked salmon, starter, pork steak and artichoke followed by a chocolate mouse was excellent. Even the House Bordeaux was very good (I am not a fan of regular French wine). The dark mahogany and chandeliers make a perfect setting and the waiter, formal, but relaxed and polite made it a pleasurably interlude eating and drinking for about £50 (inc tip) in central London.

Beautiful interior. We had to wait over an hour before we got our food and that was after we chased it up, twice. There was only one other table eating. I had the Caesar Salad, disgraceful! No Caesar dressing, just a spoonful of mayonnaise underneath a piece of lettuce at the bottom of the plate, the anchovies had just been dumped under another lettuce leaf. This was £16 not including the poncey 12.5% service charge.Another member of the party also had the Caesar Salad and was equally unimpressed and a third had to leave half of their meat dish because it was inedible. "Why didn’t you complain"? I hear you cry. They had an air of complete arrogance about them and didn’t want to get wound up and ruin the day, so we left feeling angry and ripped off.

My wife and I ate here the day we flew in from Australia, so were a little tired. I chose the restaurant because it was close to our hotel. How fortunate! The service and food were excellent. The scallops were superb, and the rabbit almost as good. But the best came last - a superb roast mango souffle, simply the best I have had anywhere, any time. The wine list was very good indeed, with a great range of wines and prices. The meal was expensive, but good food is (particularly in London!).Highly recommended.

After a industry awards do at the near by Lancaster Hotel, and party of 13 descended on Angelus for a our pre arranged private dinning. Warmly welcomed we were directed to a private downstairs dinning area and seated around a large table. As the wine and conversation flowed we were served with appetizers whilst the waitress took orders, the food was very good ( although I am struggling to recall what I eat ! ) the ambience was first rate and service very pleasant. Great quality French cuisine highly recommended.

Experienced great hospitality and really delicious food at Angelus Restaurant. The restaurant is well located and only a few minutes walk from Lancaster Gate tube. The interior is reminiscent of a french style Bistro with dark wood pannelling and high ceilings. The atmosphere was good and seating comfortable. The staff were very attentive and helped me make an excellent choice of food which gave my colleague food envy!I started off with a healthy option of Fresh pea & broad bean veloute, followed by a very tasty Fillet of stonebass with fresh crab and shallots. Dessert was a Horchata semi fredo with chipotle and ginger beer sorbet. Wine option was White Macon which went down really well. I will definately visit again soon.

We had a meal here, on Saturday evening, fabulous service and perfect for a quiet Saturday meal. It's relaxing out of the hustle and bustle and centrally located with access to central line. They have a great menu offering for two courses at just £37 and friendly, welcoming service. We could've had the set menu but were tempted onto the a la carte and didn't regret having this menu choice - perfectly pan fried scallops with morel mushrooms delicious sauce, this dish was phenomenal to a divine Chateauubriand.. which was a steal at £65 for two people.. the chef knows his sauces and jus here! Finally we were tempted to a dessert, as it's hard to resist and again the pastry on my Tarte au citron was delicious with a lemon sorbet and white chocolate disc simply divine. It's a great spot for a romantic dinner to a Sunday lunch as it's relaxed and calm, with attentive and good service. The house wine is a steal as well, the wine list is extremely good and lots of choice. Will be back again and again

Four of us, including my 20-year-old goddaughter, went there for lunch and we all agreed it was one of the best meals we'd ever had in London. Perfection is not an understatement. This is a welcoming, very well-run restaurant, with a considerate and thoughtful staff that serves an inventive kitchen, one that turns out food that is not only interesting, it also stays at a comfort level that takes into account what diners are likely to enjoy, as opposed to showing off. The wine list is affordable and diverse.Don't miss it. After you're done, take a walk in Hyde Park. You'll be kind of drawn there anyway, by the sound of horses coming back and forth from the nearby Hyde Park riding stables. It's a lovely sound, sort of a trip back in time, while you're sitting in a comfortably modern setting. It's a lovely respite, marked by superior food. What more could you want? The lone catch is that while lunch is eminently affordable, especially with its prix fixe, which I fear they may be losing money on, we agreed that it would be hard to afford dinner there, but, in fairness, we may be out of touch with British dinner prices, although we've certainly been to a number of places. If you look at the menu and you can do it, go. You won't be disappointed.

This was a great experience. For starters we had a dark green royal soup/fried Scottish scallops, black pudding terrine. Main courses: pork fillet/guinea fowl. All with very interesting tastes juxtaposed, like black pudding with the scallops! Tasty! The wine was a rear find: A bottle of red Côtes de Bourg, at 29 Pounds, the least expensive wine, but well rounded and matured.

Have you been to Angelus? If not then don't!The food is pretentious and very over priced. They think they are very grand, the wine list is exceptional, exceptionally expensive, house wine is served in medicinal doses. Atmosphere was lacking and lonely. When asked if they do coffee the waiter replied arrogantly 'we are a restaurant of course we do'.
