I was really looking forward to some award winning fish and chips at this fish and chip shop. However when we got there the fish and chip shop was closed and there was a mobile fish and chip shop outside the Angel Inn which appeared to belong to them. The fish was freshly cooked but the chips were barely lukewarm and the peas were cold. The fact that they put the pots of peas on the counter straight away while waiting for the fish to be cooked should have warned me. We were only staying two minutes away but by the time we drove to our rental the supper was ruined in fact I think it was cold before it was served to us. It’s really spoilt our evening.

Food was great quick service too. But the attitude of the man in there wow. So rude and very unapproachable. I've visited once before and he was also extremely rude and also awful to a young man working for him. Shame as the place is nice.

Extremely rude 2 male staff on a Friday night serving...and the worst fish lot ever.Never again.Dont waste your money here.Try Wolsingham or Stanhope for an excellent fish lot.

I ordered online and was stung for £1.50 service charge and 53p tip. None of these extra costs were optional- is this actually legal? The fish was good but the chips were tiny scrappy bits. I won’t be back

Stil a little puzzled as to why I got the death stare, instead of a customer friendly smile, on entering the premises but perhaps I was being anonymously selected as the days “Punter to really upset”! My wife and I ordered two small sausages and a small portion of chips and two fish cakes and a large chips. I really can’t begin to tell you what happened after this but the translation of this order by laughing boy and his equally morose assistant were beyond human comprehension. At one stage the idiots were about to produce two portions of sausage and chips and two portions of fish cakes and salad with a further two large portions of chips, apparently the word “portion”,which we had not actually introduced into the original order is all you can have and ordering fish cakes means that you have to have their cakes and salad, you can’t have chips and fish cakes as a meal it seems-well that’s a new one on me at 65 years old. Anyhow after a verbal battle, during which which I could feel myself getting more and more annoyed, the 2022 customer service champions managed to produce the requested food, chips obviously recooked and soggy and two cans of soft drinks for the best part of twenty quid. I did actually say “Apologies for the confusion, caused by you” and that went straight over the top of the head. Do yourselves a favour and change your “Under new management “ to one saying closed.

Surly, unhelpful staff, everything too much of an effort. Average food for a high price, not an experience to be repeated.

Actually watched a young girl spill a load of chips on the floor of their fish & chip van then grab them and put them on someones food. Fish was OK but smallish. Imagine paying £10 for fish and chips and them being frozen budget supermarket chips. Really underwhelming. They must be making a fortune.

We thoroughly enjoyed our food from Angelfish. The chips were really good, full of flavour and not that dreaded oily/fishy flavour you often get. The curry sauce was delicious, nothing like the generic chippy sauce. The shop itself is very well presented. The wine fridge is an excellent addition, it would allow you to make a real occasion of such a traditional 'quick tea' which I find really charming.

I have been twice and both times long wait and staff checked the chips were hot/cooked by picking up a chip and squeezing it then letting it back into the fryer. Taste less.

Chips were average but curry sauce was horrible as the only thing you could taste was vinegar not only that it was so thin it barley stayed on my chip. Disappointed

Have used this chip shop regularly used to be superb but the food is slowly getting worse. Fish and batter over cooked and half of the chips we’re inedible.

I went to Angel fish a week ago and was very disappointed to get an overcooked cod and thin frozen fries {the type you buy from a supermarket}. Also the mushy peas were runny. This is the second time I have been given fries like these that do not belong in a fish and chippy. I don't ever buy these sort of fries for home use and do not expect to get them at a chippy, especially when hand cut chips are advertised on the menu. This used to be a consistently good fish and chip shop but the last two times I have been there have been very poor.

Had a takeaway of haddock and chips and whilst the fish was fantastic, the chips were a serious let-down - pallid, limp and tepid. Maybe we caught them on an off day.

Ordered chip buttys and a small f & c we were met with rude and offensive staff who despite being the only customer (it was national fish and chip day) we were told there'd be a wait (10/15 mins) only then to find our food dry and stone cold. A number of attempts was made to complain but have received no reply. Will not return and would certainly not recommend

A recent visit to the Angel Fish Shop was great the most amazing fish, chips abs mushy peas on a Friday night after a busy week at work. Great !!

Tucked in behind the Angel Inn this is only open for a few hours on certain days but excellent fresh food well fried. Very welcome in these times of restaurant restrictions which are only going to get tighter.

Great friendly staff and the app ordering worked really well. The food was very good, one of the best places we have had fish and chips. The Haddock was really nice.

Was in Corbridge for a weeks break and decided to eat in. Fish & Chips a very good decision had Cod & Haddock Cod edged it but only just. Chips good as were the tartare sauce! Staff very friendly would recommend! Missed my pickled onion...

Very tasty , fish and chips were very fresh and not greasy 👍.They even do mushy peas with mint in , well worth a try you won’t be disappointed.

I'm not usually a fan of fish and chips as it can be overly greasy and soggy, having received a recommendation we thought we would give it a try. Freshly cooked as you wait we were not disappointed fresh haddock and chips cooked to perfection...

Popped in with 20 Scouts and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Delicious fresh fish, chunky chips and all at a reasonable price. Nice seating area outside to relax and enjoy the meal. Will definitely go back again.

grease with more grease. fish was OK but not the biggest. the sasuage although supposed to be a locally produced one was awfull. we all felt sick because there was so much grease it was litterally running out the box when we took it out...

Our first meal after returning from a long trip was to Angel Fish. Great food and lovely staff. The draft beer is a new and welcome addition to the menu.

The fish and chips here are so good.

Had them many times. Always good. Freshly cooked. Crispy bubbly battered fish.You can pre order and collect later. I have not used it myself but they have an app!

Staff are always friendly and the food is good. Order your fish and chips then nip to the pub for a pint. Come back and food is ready when they say it will be.

We visited the Angelfish chip shop whilst stopping off in Corbridge on our way home. Great place, great find. The chips cooked with their skins on were fab, the fish were lovely & the sausages were proper butcher's sausages instead of the usual chip shop sausages.

Gorgeous hand-cut chips - 'double cooked' takes the taste stakes up a notch! Fish chunky and well-cooked - fab minted mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce. Take a detour!

Everything was perfect. Fresh haddock prepared and battered in front of us before being fried. Chips made with hi quality potatoes. Served in solid boxes that keep things fresh if you are walking home! Good chilled local beers and even a small keg of real ale and pints available on tap.

First time. Excellent chips (we know our chips and these were cracking) - lovely chunky haddock - half a cod-lush golden scampi nuggets-Pennine on draught - bottle Pino G (Romanian, cool!). Helpful, friendly staff...What’s not to like. We’ll be back.

We’ve usually been happy with the fish and chips bought from here but recently the quality of the chips depends on who the duty fryer is.

What a great little find. Smart and modern, the shop includes an adjacent patio with seven picnic tables and parasols. You eat from the box with full size plastic cutlery. I had an excellent, non-greasy scampi and chips with a large pot of tartare sauce for £8.25.

Having a mooch around Corbridge and saw a sign to the Angel - tucked away in a courtyard. We each just had chips - one with curry sauce - and found them hot, chunky and delicious. No complaints.

Fish ok. A little overcooked. The chips went straight in the bin. You should know better. You do not give customers cardboard cold chips. Will not be back until someone at the Angle starts to listen and take action. Hot crispy but sift in the middle. Go see longsands in tynemouth and learn

It was awful, cold fish and chips which should be put in bin. Couldn't eat it , went on bird table .

We have eaten from here on quite a few occasions with being locals, many of which have been extremely dissapointing, poor food and rude staff. I have to say after Friday evenings Fish and Chips my confidence is 100% reinstated. The fish was delicious thick and firm with a beautiful batter on it and the chips were lovely, also it was hot. Staff friendly and welcoming, delighted to say we will now return

Sorry to say this as I don’t normally give bad reviews but I felt we were treated very badly by this establishment. As a family we were staying at a farmhouse about three miles outside of the town. To save time we downloaded the app( despite very slow Wi-fi) and sent our order through. Luckily, I noticed a slight mistake on my order so phoned to correct it. I was told that they hadn’t received my order as the app wasn’t working. The app had offered a 20% discount ( £12+ for our order) but I was told they couldn’t honour it! There was no apology and we felt we had wasn’t so much time on it all for nothing! We had used the app correctly but we lost on the discount. Very poor customer service. To make it worse, the haddock was wafer thin, surrounded by an excess of ‘soggy’ batter. The chips were also soggy - all in all a total disappointment.

We’ve had fish and chips here many times over the past few years some good some bad and some just ok. Tonight they were brilliant! I know there is a new team in and it does show. Fish beautifully cooked with a light crisp batter, great chunky fresh chips. Home m@de tartare sauce is fab. Add some mushy peas and a bottle of wine for round about £20 and you have a really good fish supper!! So keep up the good work and we will be back - probably every week!!

We decided to go back to the Angel for fish and chips after not using them for awhile. We were hoping to get the seafood basket only to find out they stopped doing them. So we ordered cod and chips and also some kids servings. The portions have reduced in size, barely any chips anymore. The fish itself was lovely but the batter tasted different, couldn't put my finger on it but I didn't like it. The chips were a little undercooked. The kids servings however were of a good size.

I haven't eaten fish n chips from here for a long while as the value was not good when it first opened. Prices have now come down and are about the same as a fish n chip van which comes once a week but the quality here is better. I ordered a small portion of fish and chips for lunch at £5.25 and it was cooked before my eyes. Hand cut chunky chips and a nice sized portion of very nice cod. All perfectly cooked apart from 2 or 3 chips which were massive and twice the size of the rest so not quite cooked through properly but still edible. Even came with a lemon wedge. Definitely eat here again. If it had half stars this would be 4.5 out of 5 but purely because of the few uncooked chips.

Only had fish and chips here once and they were excellent. Curry sauce was definitely the best I've ever had. Quite expensive but really very very tasty, thank you.

Having reviewed previously as very good I felt compelled to write a review with excellent. There have been a couple of occasions in the past where the fish was a bit over done, however on recent visits it’s been absolutely spot on. Sure it’s slightly at the pricier side for take away but I would rate it higher than Restaurant fish at twice the price any day!

This is a nice chip shop with good food even if it is a bit expensive but I would say you get what you pay for and we all loved our fish and chips from here and the ice cream we bought too. So if you want a nice take away look now further that the Angel Fish shop and even better use there app to order it and get money off your fist order too.

Was visiting Northumberland last week and felt like some fish and chips. Came across Angel Fish in Corbridge. Not good and I'm from Yorkshire were they know how to do fish and chips. It was not freshly cooked and had the appearance of retried fish. Chips were nothing to shout about either. Would not recommend

When this first opened they were lovely very enjoyable now they are they are absolutely terrible dried out and tasteless and expensive.the service supplied by the two sisters was a awful no manners one in particular was the worse listened to her taking orders just could not be bothered with customers

La semana pasada fue la espesura. Peces muy seco, chips espantoso. Esta semana decidimos hacer nuestras propias fichas y no pedir el abadejo en la app. Cuando llegué me dieron precocinado eglefino.

Después de un paseo por la Muralla de Adriano nos apetecía pescado y patatas fritas, y tenía el cartel en Corbridge vimos para el pescado y el marisco para llevar péces ángel autorizados. Cuando entramos en la zona de patio preguntamos a alguien comiendo su pescado y patatas fritas, donde la tienda de pescado fue porque no podía verlo! Es el edificio a la izquierda.

Bueno, qué puedo decir, el pescado y las patatas fritas eran muy agradables y no sólo porque se presentan en un cuadro precioso y el personal es muy bueno. Yo diría que un poco más caro que la mayoría de los peces tenían barcos chip pero vale la pena.

went to the Angel for chips last night as we were staying in Corbridge and wanted a snack. the chips were under cooked and had a foisty damp taste the worst chips I have ever had, most were put straight in the bin.

It was just poor service followed by poor quality fish and chips! The batter was burnt and the fish was dried out! The chips where hollow greasy husks and it was without doubt the worst fish and chips I've ever had!

Yo estaba deseando un té "fish and chips", pero quedé muy decepcionado. Llegamos a ser recibidos por un miserable hombre, presumiblemente mal educados, el jefe, sólo nos quedamos porque teníamos hambre. El hombre boss cuidado de tocar su nariz, por suerte no lo hizo cualquier cosa con nuestra comida. Cuando llegó la salchicha y patatas fritas que estaba seco y preparado sobre, las patatas fritas eran insípido y seco. Yo sólo he marcado un punto y eso es porque era una salchicha de calidad. No volveré, sin duda no la recomiendo.

Having heard some very good reports my wife and I decided to pay a visit to sample the food .Whilst the fish was excellent we both felt the chips were just average however this would not deter us from making a return visit.

Had a weekend in Corbridge and took the dog so places to eat were limited. Decided on a takeaway one night and this was a great choice. Lovely fish and chips and the home made tartare sauce was delicious.

Tenía muchas esperanzas para este. Tuve que esperar un día para que abra como llegamos un lunes cuando está cerrada. Como han dicho en otras críticas, el pescado estaba perfectamente bien, pero las patatas no eran muy agradables. Eran de color marrón oscuro y duro. No comestible pero sin duda no es fresco. Lo que me sorprendió fue el tío monosilábico detrás del mostrador. Pregunté si no una pequeña a la que respondió el abadejo en 'no'. Me gustaría o no una pequeña cod? 'él 'Yes'. Me 'cuánto la pastel de pescado se me pregunto si tengo tiempo para un rápido pinta? 'él '15 minutos'. Que no es la amabilidad legendaria noreste y bromas que me he acostumbrado a esperar! Venga hombre! No había mucha gente que yo era el único cliente.

Wow, this fish and chip shop has raised the bar to the highest level. Their fish and chips are perfect, can't fault in anyway at all. And they have an app to order!

The angelfish is in the courtyard behind Corbridge's posh and expensive hotel & eatery, the Anglel. I was pleased to see quite average prices given it has won awards in the short ime it has been open. You can order by phone or by app, the latter got me a 20% discount for my first order. 10 minutes for collection so i scooted to corbridge, actually took the wife as its not a place you can easily park but in case she could drift round the block a couple of times! There are seats in the courtyard if you want to be in Corbridge. The haddock and chips was ready on my arrival but not boxed or bagged and as there was a queue and a row of waiting people i assumed had ordered and food in the fat so i had to judge at what point did nascent etiquette allow an app based purchaser to jump the queue so to speak! The fish and chips was average fish and chip shop quality - nothing special, the only particular issue i might raise would be my haddock was a bit firm and perhaps too well done. GIven the hype i ended up a little disappointed but i'd hazard a guess this may have been bad luck and I'll give it another go sometime!

Crispy chips are to die for and the sausage is far superior to the normal chippy sausages. Batter is crispy and light , well worth a visit.

Crisp batter, delicious moist haddock, perfect chips and wonderful home made tartare sauce. I'll be going back.

The worst fish and chips I have ever had. Chips were hard and chewy. Fish was dry. Awful. We will never go there again.

There is always a sense they are not quite in control... when it's busy eye contact with customers is minimal and staff turn to the fryers with their backs on display and curt conversations are had about how long the chips have to go...

I can't beleave that this fish and chip shop would ever get an award they must have no taste buds and be blind ,first you had 2 kids cooking looked like they just left school and I said is that fish cooked properly he said yes not even testing it and to be charged £6.95 is scandolous I think the owner should travel to the blue harbour fish and chips in seaton sluice and see what proper fish and chips is like and value for money.

Lovely chips cooked to the exact condition, just the right amount of Crisp, that lovely smell of salt and vinegar that takes you back to days at the seaside. The fish was boned and skined a good sign. While 100% return here many times.

Fresh will cooked menu. The fish are big and for the small eater, the Sngel fish (small portion) is recommended.
