Was nearly dark when we arrived, looked ok from the outside. Me and my family attended a Engagement Party. Bar in the party room had limited drinks. Cold Buffet was awful. Hot buffet crispy chicken and chicken curry, I had the crispy chicken that was nice, never tasted curry so cannot comment. Whole place was cold including our room, they said I just had open valve on radiator it never worked because they are ancient, kept wakening up as cold, no extra blankets. Could not get on WiFi, really bad signal. Staff were friendly the bar was better stocked so we went in there for extra drinks. Place needs updating, keep old fashioned features but make more modern facilities. It was clean in general but tough round the edges.

Before I start, the staff were excellent!! Polite, helpful and professional. Food was tasty and well presented and the Caffreys was great. Our view of the Angel was spot on. However, the accommodation is in serious need of an upgrade. Im 6’3 and my feet hung over the end of the bed. The bathroom grouting and silicon seals were in poor state. The seals need doing immediately to prevent further damage! The shower head, although nice strong jet would not hold its position in the holder and had to be held in one hand to dusch all over. A precarious exercise in itself as one stands in a slippery bath. I know its an old building but floorboards can be secured these days with certain nails so one is not aware of the comings and goings of the whole house! General cleanliness was fine apart from carpets looking grubby. I know what im talking about as an accommodation estate manager dealing with building faults. What it would cost in refurb would be recouped through heightened prices for an upmarket feel. A great location with quick easy access to A1 and local amenities.

Stayed at Angel View last year and it was a really nice stopover on way to Scotland. Booked again for the same trip with Grandchildren, had nice room overlooking the Angel Of The North.Carvery had finished by time we arrived but the lovely staff arranged Sandwiches and Pizza which was such a nice touch.Lots of room outside for the little ones to run off steam. Breakfast was perfectly adequate, but the best thing especially for the children was the home made waffles, these went down a treat and kept us going until lunch. Staff are always so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Will always use this hotel when travelling North. Thank you all for making our stay on both occasions a pleasure.

Only slight -personal choice I know- negative; perhaps more dishes with veg or offer a side of seasonal veg on the menu ( though it was prepared if I asked for veg)

We enjoyed our stay The Angel View Inn. The room was spacious with an en suite, double bed and pull out sofa bed (this was really hard though) mini fridge and plenty of wardrobe space. The room could do with a overhaul as it was very dated and what looked like a big leak around the window. It was very at night and breakfast was included in our price as we booked direct. We didn't have a view from our room of the Angel as the tree and hedges were over grown, but could see from the car park and there was a small picnic area.

I was visiting Angel of the North with my teenage daughter, and decided to book a table at this pub for Sunday Lunch. We arrived early and was shown to an area where we could choose our own table. The waiter and waitress were really polite and friendly. We chose to have two courses for £12.95 each. The food was served promptly and was of good quality. There portions were also very large with plenty of large slices of beef. Compliments to the chef as the Yorkshire puddings were the best I've ever tasted. After the first course we were stuffed, the waitress advised us we could wait a while for our deserts and just to let her know when we were ready to eat again. So to sum up in one word delicious. It's such a shame I live in Yorkshire as I would have definitely visited again.

We visited as a family of 4 this evening and really enjoyed our visit. With 2 children under 18 months eating out can be quite a stressful occasion at times! However, due to the great food and lovely service we all enjoyed this experience. The waiter was really helpful and told us about longer wait times on certain foods that were prepared from scratch (the risotto) as he knew time is limited with young children and offered to bring out our sons food first. He also offered to take my food back to keep it warm when he noticed I was feeding my daughter, something which not many restaurants do. The food was delicious, we had the koftas and the veggie curry and would definitely recommend. We will be sure to return!

We have just returned from another wonderful visit and would like to share our experience. We went at the weekend to enjoy the great Sunday lunch they offer. I had a bruschetta for starters, followed by pork loin with vegetables, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding. The portions are always so big that it is a struggle to finish them. The food is piping hot and served nicely. Since we know the waiter and he was aware that we especially like Yorkshire pudding, we got one extra Yorkshire pudding each without charge!! The food was great as usual and we also got a free tea after our meal, another very nice gesture of our wonderful waiter. No list of beer and ale...wine, yes! The table staff made it clear we were an inconvenience. There was a wedding in another build one other table with a family group but that looked to be it so not run off their feet. Lots of staff floating through all the same demeanour. Having seen this from the roadside many times I visited one evening towards the end of service. I was amazed at how nice it is inside and the lovely views out towards the Angel it has (yes the name is a giveaway but it's still amazing!) It's a lovely relaxing atmosphere inside and welcoming. Service was a little slow and it took a while for the order to be taken and courses to be served. The menu choices were a little different to the usual, there wasn't a lot that took my fancy, it seemed a little samey and on the expensive side for what it was offering. However I chose tempura battered veg and chicken and mushroom pasta. the battered veg was very heavy and there was far too much of it. I ended up leaving half, as it was too greasy. By the time my main arrived, I'd lost my appetite a little. The pasta however was tasty, but served with slices of frozen garlic bread. I only managed half but really wanted to eat more of it! My friend had a jerk chicken dish which was particularly dry. However, I have to commend the manager. I believe he is new to the role and took feedback extremely well. You can see he is passionate about the job and wants to make the best of the place. I appreciate we were dining late on, although quality should be there throughout. Given the managers attitude I am more than willing to give this place another try, maybe for a Sunday lunch, or a meal earlier in the evening. The place has potential, just there's work to be done.

Everyone ordered their meals and 2 had starters which arrived quickly. Then waited roughly 1 hour for main courses. There was a couple of children in the party and once the main courses started to come out we asked if their meal could come next but they carried on bringing out the adult meals serving the children last. The meals were a let down. Meat was tough, not much fish and the chips were hard. Some of the meals were just warm. Decided not to stay for coffee and left disappointed.

Had booked a table for 13 on Sat 21st Jan to celebrate my birthday and pre-ordered the meals. There was nothing special about any of the meals, in fact most were pretty run of the mill, bangers and mash, gammon and chips, steak and chips, chicken and rice etc. the only exception was the chilli which contained cardamon pods. I can honestly say I've never had chilli with cardamon pods and never want to have to with them again. Utterly ruined it, tasted like lemon dish-washing liquid, who thought that was a good idea?? Most of the group mentioned they'd had much better tasting food elsewhere. Service was ok, the 1 poor waiter allocated to our table disappeared at the end and we had to hunt around for someone to get the bill. Would not recommend and wouldn't go back, much better tasting food elsewhere.

Tried here on a recommendation and frankly wish we hadn't. On a positive note the service was good with the staff being friendly and attentive throughout. The food however was desperately disappointing! The fish and chips was exceptionally poor quality fish and consisted of a lot of batter and not much fish! Other meals served to the family were average at best. As this outlet would not fall under the cheap and cheerful category I 've got to say also therefore the food was poor value for money!

I was dining here alone while away on business. Service started out really good, very helpful. But this got worse as the meal went on, the staff were obviously distracted trying to cater for a function. The hot starter was served on a chilled plate so was cold within minutes of reaching me, the main (gammon) reminded me of what you might get in any greasy spoon cafe. Dessert is ridiculously over priced for what you get. And to top it off the bill was wrong... Overcharged by £5. I won't be back.

My friend and I had been to see the Angel of the North and decided to have lunch here as it was so close by. The lunchtime menu seemed a little small but we finally were able to choose something to eat. Food was piping hot and did taste nice but it was a much of a muchness and nothing to write home about.

Went here because it is local to us. Pleasant place to have a drink. Ate here for the 1st time today. Staff were lovely. Had the burger which was very tasty, but was very disappointed when after paying an extra £1 for extra bacon & £1 for cheese, the bacon was just a piece of rhind & the cheese was the size of a tea spoon! Nice coleslaw but not enough of it & some salad garnish would have been nice.Won't been eating there anymore.Think they rely on one time customers visiting the angel of the North.

A group of 11 of us dined here for Father's Day lunch. It's a great venue and the food is lovely but the management and organisation are dreadful. Four main meals came out a good 10 minutes before the others (we were told we'd accidentally been given someone else's meals) so some of the party had almost finished their meals before the others arrived. We then waited at least 40mins for dessert because the kitchen had lost our ticket. The food was actually lovely and the staff serving were very friendly, polite and extremely apologetic. However there seem to be real issues between the food being cooked and actually making it out to diners. To top it all off one of the party almost swallowed a fragment of glass which was in her drink (she's already had a dead fly in one of her drinks). Our waiter was very apologetic and took said glass to show his manager. The manager sent his apologies but didn't come anywhere near us to apologise in person which is disgraceful management/customer service. We were offered free drinks which we declined as we'd been in there long enough. The desserts were removed from the bill and a percentage was taken off, however we will not be returning. So sad that a local business with such huge potential is being sadly wasted.

For what I paid for the meal I was a bit disappointed. Had to wait for vegetables and my wife had to go and ask for gravy/sauce for the steak. Salmon was OK. Cheesecake was pretty nondescript. First time having a meal there, will be along time before I go back

Lovely place with a great view of the Angel on the North. The Sunday lunch arrived all looked very good and with plenty of colour and a large yorkshire pudding. While the meal looked lovely it was all cold the yorkshires tasted like they had just been taken out of a fridge. the lamb was tough and chewy, braising steak was small diced pieces. Some of the staff need extra training because we asked for a desert menu which took over 20 mins to arrive and then we were totally forgotten about, so we got up and left. Will not recommend as food needs to be served hot and staff need to be switched on to people's needs. This company is losing money through staff service not being up to parr.

Visited for a second time to give them a second chance as the food we had the first time disappointed us. I had the risotto balls as a starter and it was really nice and my partner had mushroom en croute which was also tasty. I the had chicken and mushroom stroganoff it was nice but a little bland and the rump of lamb which was delicious and the staff are very friendly , so I will defiantly return in the future.

Deserves a minus score...Pork with blood in which the "chef" said was cooked perfectly, Beef as tough as old boots. Waitress advised they had had quite a few complaints. An apology from the waitress while the manager was no where to be seen. Immediately after we'd spoke to the waitress another customer asked to speak to the manager. Not once were we asked if the food was ok...Wasted £50 please don't do the same, to sum it up well decorated restaurant utter terrible food, fur coat and no knickers springs to mind

Over the past year have visited a few times and each time it was not as good. menu change, smaller portions , different products , but staff consistent ... never on hand, keep their backs to customers and think more important to fold napkins, sort cutlery out or talk ! Not sure why they advertise homemade smooth pate and then say they have a rough pate ??? Sorry did it rate good meals , value for money , but sorry this is not the case now, need to get act together before at bottom of hill !!

I have eaten here on a number of occasions and really enjoyed the food. Not this time. soup was bitter and the main meal which was a roast inedible. The beef was chewy burnt and rock hard and the roast potatoes of a taste I cannot even describe. However the service was excellent grom the waitresses and only because of this I chose not to complain about the food.

Expected better, but it had been a few years since last visit. Saturday evening and it was very quiet. We sat with coats on as restaurant just so cold. We had two courses and food was average, although hot when left kitchen it soon went cold! Waiting staff were very pleasant, despite their teeth chattering! My pet hate is places a that have huge tv screens showing football/sports it really lowers the experience - even with the sound turned down. There was a David Gray c.d playing in the background and frankly it was so depressing I couldn't wait to leave. It's lost its sparkle and in need of updating.

Visited today to have a Sunday meal with friends. Whilst waiting for friends to arrive we thought we would have a pre meal drink. Obviously, we interrupted the bar maid by the look on her face. We were told she would bring the cappuccino to our table. As we watched several customers be served and someone make a coffee we decided that 15-20 mins was ample time to attempt to make a start on a cappuccino..... At this point my partner had the 'audacity' to ask if it was being made... The barmaid advised someone had gone for milk (strange considering that 5 minutes earlier, we had over heard her ask him if he was preparing our cappuccino and him reply that he was actually serving someone else). The barmaid also went on to advise that they were after all very busy and we had only been waiting less than 5 mins (at that time I was half way through my pint..I wasn't half a pint in 5 mins thirsty!). After my partner told her she didn't find her comments very nice the barmaid replied that was her opinion: my partner therefore asked for her money back for the cappuccino and advised we would find somewhere else to eat. The barmaid very kindly 'dropped' the money into her hand with no apology or comment apart from 'ok!'We decided we would try 'The Engine Room' and what a difference.. ourselves and our friends could not fault the staff at all........... CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! So needless to say we won't be back to 'The Angel ' in a hurry! What a shame when you try to support the local businesses...

Went for Sunday lunch with a my family. Food was excellent and the service staff were excellent especially considering the amount of people in our party. Would have been a 5 out of 5 if it wasn't for the bar maid (who I believe may be the manager) was very abrupt, ignorant and basically rude when I was paying the bill. Shame the day ended. If I go back I want to make sure I don't get served by her

£6.95 for 2 courses. I had a really good soup of the day with fresh granary bread. My dad had the potato skins. We both then had the corned beef pie with mash and mushy peas. Prompt service, hot tasty food, generous portions. Loved it.

Staff were very friendly and pleasant. Didn't eat there so can't comment on food but we had a few drinks in the bar which was very welcoming. Pillows in room were hard and in one of the rooms the bed was so near the corner of the wall it was difficult to walk round to the other side of the room. Overall we had a lovely one night stay.

We came here for a light lunch after a particularly difficult day, (family bereavement) however once we were seated we decided to have Sunday lunch. The waitress was lovely and very attentive. I had roast beef Sunday dinner, as did my husband. My daughter had a chicken dish, my son had a starter as main course as he was not really hungry, our grandson had lasagne. The beef was lovely, I have never seen Yorkshire puddings so big, the selection of vegetables was fabulous although we found the inclusion of messy peas a bit strange. There was carrots, cabbage and turnip, all very tasty and perfectly seasoned. Most important of the plates were hot. Too many times we have eaten hot food on cold plates, which in my opinion is a disaster as the food is cold before you eat it. The portion sizes were excellent and the food was appetising. Although there was some gravy on the plate I could have done with a bit more. But that is a minor item. My daughters chicken dish was moist and very tasty, she said she would definitely recommend it. My grandson who loves lasagne said "it was the best he ever had" praise indeed!!!!As for pricing. Not bad at all there were four adults, 1 child, 1 glass of white wine, one soft drink, 2 soda and lime and a pint of Guinness. The total was just over £57.We were very satisfied and intend to visit again. The only negative was that we had to request the bill on several occasions and in the end went to the bar to pay. However they were busy. But perhaps it's worth noting.

A great, cheap and cheerful, good value breakfast, as a great break from some shopping in the Metro Centre. It is a big pub, so plenty of tables, including lots of booths which give a nice touch. Between us we had different breakfast muffins, including the bacon and egg, and the veggie sausage - both were great. The veggie sausages were really tasty and good quality - as good as the real thing! Using the app makes ordering really easy, and tea and coffee refills are free. So all in all, a great breakfast at a great price, in a nice setting.

Ate here for 4 days whilst on a coach trip. The establishment was clean and the staff were pleasant, but there were a few things that let it down. My main concern was that there were no sneeze guards over any of the food, particularly where the desserts were laid out and everybody had to pass/wait in order to get their main meal. Likewise, in the hot plate area there was no food protection whatsoever, and while this may not be a mandatory requirement, this is the only hotel in years that I haven't seen this in place to protect customers and staff alike, even before covid times. The breakfast is very good although we missed some mushrooms with our full English, and ironically the fresh bread is covered with a tea towel. The dinner portion sizes were a bit hit and miss, as one evening my partner got 1 small fishcake, 3 new potatoes and a bit of veg, not very substantial for an adult, yet my stuffed peppers and vegetables was a good size. We also thought that £37 for a bottle of Errazuriz Chardonnay was very extreme, and while we understand there has to be a mark up, we didn't pay this much in London!

A pub that is a lot longer that it is wide; deceptively big. It also has a beer garden at the rear, and is the classic Wetherspoon format. The bar is sensibly placed in the middle, along the left side, the toilets are opposite on the right.
