Andys Fish Bar, Sysonby Street in Melton

Found this takeaway on google and it was excellent, had 2 large Cod a regular chips , bartered sausage 2 leg peas and some sonar bites, obviously for 2 . Fish cooked to order and it was great . Batter nice and crispy and nice juicy fresh tasting cod. Portion size very good . Everything was spot on. I couldn’t eat all the bites and sausage will have another day. The staff really friendly and chatty and food ready very quickly. Glad we found this nice chippy we staying at eye kettlebylakes caravan park less than 10 minute drive. Also the price was very very good just over £23 for all the food above could have fed 4 easily.

My wife and I have just had a fish and chip supper from Andy's and while it is usually spot on, on this occasion the fish was literally inedible. I never normally like to leave bad feedback but I am so disappointed that I feel compelled to .

I've been coming to this chip shop since I was a kid and the quality of both the food and the service has always been absolutely spot on! Easily the best chip shop in town and the only place to get delicious doner bites 👌

We changed from another fish takeaway to Andys and we have never been disappointed so thank you for all the good food 😊 although keeping customer's is vital, and tonight we were disappointed in the batter on the fish very thick and not as tasty as normal infact it was un pleasant. we normally love the batter, one reason we order from you and a few others 😋 so this is not a negative review but constructive feedback thanks.

The ladies where very helpful when I visited in my wheelchair and with my assistance dog. Lovely food, nice and hot

Recently tried Andy's after using another chippy for a long time. Good portions and good prices, we are now going to use Andy's much more often.

I didn't go in, but waited in the car with my grandson and dog. The food was good, hot and fresh. I don't know about the atmosphere, but it looked OK through the window, and the place is a favourite with my daughter and her family. I trust their judgment.

The Melton Mowbray Andys on sysonby Street Chippy is Fab 👍!! But had the last couple from the Andys Barker Cres 1 as just round the corner in Melton! It is absolutely appalling!!

Got my order wrong but the food was still great.

Stingy portion of chips, soggy and wanted a minimum payment of £5.00 for a £2.60 bag of chips to cover the cost of a debit card payment. Clearly out of touch with the real world. I will avoid in the future.

Just had takeout. Two mini cod ( just cooked) Regular chips , pot of peas . Possible the worst fish and chips I have ever had . So, so greasy , both of us didn’t eat a full fish , chips greasy too . Would not use again .

Ordered via Uber Eats with this stop. Two items didn’t come with the order. I rang the shop and they couldn’t do anything about it. Not even offer a refund or an apology. What food we had been given, it was nice.

A really nice place to get some traditional fish and chips (or pie and chips etc.). The food is fairly cheap yet high quality and fresh. However, there is no seating as it is takeaway only. Usually our 'go to' fish and chips shop.

Once every two to three weeks we as two households Oder from here. Great service great food without fault

at the time of writing melton is spiking with covid19. a sign in the window asks people to put a mask on before entry, so how come 3 out of the 5 people in the shop were NOT wearing masks, were young and had nothing to say they were exempt ? they remained unchallenged by the owner, so i can only think he is putting profit before virus or he is a spineless wimp. its because of this sort of attitude that we will have to live with this virus longer than necessary...the buck stops with you, mr. chippy owner. shame on you.

Wow the mini fish was a whopper the curry sauce was the best I have ever had. The Donna kebab was lovely and the salad was fresh. The staff are so friendly they tell you what offers and the best way to buy Your meal on the offers they are offering.

Clearly more interested then serving regulars than anyone else. me and my partner got ignored for 5 minutes when we walked in and when we walked in but as soon as someone walked in that they knew by name he got served straight away. They were also very ruse about the fact they didn't have a card machine and looked at me like I was stupid when I asked where the closet cash point was. The fish and chips we ordered wasn't bad but not worth the service we received.

I am a Huge fan of the good old Fish & Chips,when it is cooked right.This experience was not that good.I was told that it was the best ever and was how it used to be back in the day when it was Harrisons. Not so, the chips were soggy and the batter was like rubber,not to my liking at all,some people might like this but I prefer crispy batter and a good firm chip.Sorry ,will not be back.

Great staff. But.......I asked and paid for a large Cod and was told "It would take about 10 minutes". Absolutely no issue with the wait but when i got home and opened my paper package, the size of the fish was tiny. Even smaller than a normal sized fish! The journey back to the shop was not worth the hassle, so i just ate what i had. I have to say, it was very nice, but i felt cheated. I'd paid.for a large Cod and actually got nothing more than a long fish finger! Not been back since and i now use Blue Ocean near the railway station.

Having previously visited this ‘chippy’ several times, it was a pleasure to re visit after several months. The fish (cod) was freshly fried, lightly but well battered and the chips abundant. Mushy peas are mushy peas! You either like them or—-. I do, as did our guests, one of whom also had curry sauce gravy!! Service was cheerful, the food was well wrapped and not overly expensive. Four of us had a good alfresco supper. We will go there again.

Generous portions. We had 3 small fish and one small chips between us. The fish were larger than average and there was more than enough chips for three. Everything was fresh and the shop was clean. There was no queue even though it was Saturday lunchtime. A hidden gem.

Wonderful food like. Looking forward to having it again soon.

10/6/17. this review on concerns the couple who "run" it. knowing cod is cooked to order, shortly after i entered i asked to have a large cod put in. "no large cod, only small" was the reply, so i shook my head..."but they are a good size" he said, so this time i nodded and said OK. after 10mins i got to be served, and i duly asked for the cod and chips only to be told by the smiley bovine one and the one who hides behind the fryer that i hadnt ordered cod ! now lets think about this...knowing cod is cooked to order, i never ordered, waited in the que for a good ten minutes and then when it was my turn to be served i ask for cod which has not been cooked...something doesnt add up here, does it ? by implication, they are calling the customer a liar, and even if they were right there are far better ways of handling that sort of situation. my previous visit here was about three years ago, when i ordered chips and a tray of doner meat, "and can i pay extra for more meat please" ? the smiley bovine one replied with "there is more than enough meat in the tray for you" !!! firstly,who the hell does she think she is to tell me how much i can eat ?? secondly,she really needs to put brain into gear before opening the mouth, as the reality was that the extra meat was to be a treat for my dogs. needless to say, i walked out in disgust on both occasions. to treat a customer like this abhorrent and just shows them in such a bad light.

Chips, fish and curry sauce is the best for dinner.

Just had fish chips and mushy peas with curry sauce, it was delicious and reminded me of when I was a child, it was the best fish and chips in Melton then and in my opinion it still is, it served two of us, it was lovely and hot the batter was scrumptious. I would recommend this place for lovely food, good service and cleanliness.

Always enjoy a takeaway from here. Good is all very nice, place is clean. Can ring and order in advance to get things cooked that aren't ready in the hot plate (eg burgers, nuggets etc.)

I recently decided to try this establishment again after quite a while since my last visit which was disappointing to say the least.However things have not improved and when I got home to "enjoy" my portion of cod and chips I was again disappointed. Whilst the chips were hot and the fish looked nice I soon discovered that it was not Cod! This replacement fish had a weird taste and left a funny taste in the mouth. Also the thickest part was not cooked properly. I know fish should be "on the point" but this was almost raw.If I had ordered this meal in a restaurant I would have sent it straight back to the kitchens.I left most of the meal!Despite the above, the place is clean and the staff were very pleasant, but two bad experiences have now put me off for good.Never again!!!
