A group of us visited this pub before an O2 concert. The service was incredible poor as the food came out over a long drawn out 45mins ensuring we all ate at different stages. When we complained they said they would take 10% service charge from the bill. As we were so late I just paid what I was asked to pay (more fool me!). When I got back home I totted up the cost and they had not removed the charge. I have phoned the pub several times, and even spoke to the manager who said she would investigate! Well you might as well talk to a chocolate fire guard! Nothing has happened, nobody even has the decency to phone me back, and they still owe me £30. Avoid this place at all cost, clearly they are happy to take your money, but anything goes wrong then it’s you that has to pay!! I hope they read this email and feel embarrassed.

This is a traditional pub, lovely outside seating along the river Thames. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food is basic pub food but very well cooked and good portion sizes you wont go home hungry, There is a sea food stall and pizza bar outside which is great, you can eat both with- in the pubs seating area. Dogs are welcome. Been a couple of times and everyone that has been drinking eating outside has been friendly. Music was playing outside and they sometimes have a singer. Lovely view when the lights along the Thames start to come on. There is free parking around the area.

Me and my fiancé and the dog was coming back from a day out in London and fancied a place to eat near the river that’s when this beauty popped up I called up and asked do they allow dogs and have they got a table available. The lady on the phone was happy to help and said yes they accept dogs and got a table for two, she said it’s only roast or pizza today which is fine with us. On arrive plenty of spots to park got a nice view of the river and surrounding building including the Thames barrier and emirates cable carts in the distance. Walking into we asked the bar lady that we have a table booked at 17:30 and the name she showed us to our table got some dog water for our dog and some treats for him we ordered from our table which was a chicken roast & Turkey roast and drinks. It was not long before the food came out and just wow so much for such good value let’s just say we finished it all. We even got a visit from the chef after to say how was the food and we both said how good it was. The chef came out again and said would you like a dessert which i applied have you got a menu and straight away we got one and so many choices of desserts I went to the bar and ordered 1 chocolate fudge cake and 1 orange cake but both to be warm and with ice cream instead of cream which was no trouble. On arrival the presentation was fab and such a nice dessert. I have to say from really friendly staff and to the chef to come out and see hows everything. is it’s a plus just shows how much he cares about his food would definitely come back and recommend if your a couple with a dog.

Party of 5 arrived 11.45 am on a Charlton match day. Only 1 other customer in bar so ordered food. One meal arrived in around 15 minutes, but no sight of other 4 meals. Friend finished her meal and we chased again (now an hour after ordering). Told would be another 20 minutes (perhaps). Pub now packed. Decided to keep 2 of the orders which took another half hour and had a refund for the other 2 as they couldn’t wait any longer. No apology or reason why it happened. Absolutely awful service which ruined our lunch outing.

Beer - Greene King IPA - spot on, beer garden overlooking the Thames and the WW2 pumping station on an old pier that we’d been photographing. Sunny day. Food ordered, took 45 minutes to arrive (bacon and sausage French stick served with chips) after being asked twice. Tasted brilliant. Chef served it and apologised. I’ll come again (but I’ll leave more time).

All credit to the pub for the effort its website indicates it is making in a difficult economic time (fuel price rises, Russian aggression, that pandemic thing..). The pub is a pleasant-looking traditional boozer, although you might quibble with the idea of painting the exterior brick a very dark shade, and the drinks offering looks good. The big draw is the outside table area on the south side of the Thames with its striking views north to the City its Docklands offshoot. Food and drink has to be carried across a narrow tarmac road, which is part of the enjoyably walkable, and cyclable, Thames Path. The Anchor runs seasonal events and movie nights, puts free Indian nibbles on the bar, is dog-friendly and lights its open fire in winter. The problem is what it does not do. The day I went, for example, the men’s lavatory floor was covered in water and a few hours later no clean-up was evident. (Post-Brexit staff shortages?) Despite a variety of flesh lunches, the only vegetarian snack available was cheese on a baguette or sandwich bread. A venue that thinks that will satisfy vegetarians: had a time warp taken me back to the vegetarian-unfriendly 1970s? I did not bother to ask whether the bland cheddar with the bread I was served was vegetarian. Has the pub not heard of veggieism’s growing appeal to Britons, quite apart from veganism? Such failings by themselves might not limit a pub’s chance of survival. Neither will they help.

A goup of 16 of us booked for Sunday lunch to celebrate finishing the Thames Path. Unfortunately we were delayed and had to change our booking time. The staff were very accommodating, it didn't seem to be a problem for them at all. They were super friendly on our arrival and made us feel really welcome. The roasts were excellent, very big with a good range of fresh and well cooked vegetables. Some of the meals took a little while to come out but it didn't worry us and would be expected with such a large group. There was live music later in the afternoon which was a lovely surprise. All in all, a fabulous afternoon in this proper old fashioned London boozer. I'd definitely recommend and would go out of my way to visit again. Big thanks to all the staff who went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome!

Went for a roast at this pub and was not sure what to expect if I’m honest. The staff were very accommodating from the moment we arrived and friendly. The roast were honestly so tasty and l I’m a home cooked roast dinner with the crispiest roast potatoes I have ever had other than at home. Such a generous portion and so much choice of vegetable. This is not a gator pub with trendy servings, however it is wholesome and heart home cooked food and one of the tastiest I’ve had in a pub

This is one of the best pubs I’ve ever visited. Great staff who were really friendly. We arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday and had the most delicious toast dinners with a massive selection of vegetables and beautifully tender roast beef. Served with all the trimmings and a smile! The selection of beers and spirits is excellent and what I liked was that my vodka lime and lemonade was served in a lovely glass with an ice cold can of R Whites lemonade and not a squirt of syrupy pump genetic lemonade. There was entertainment on too which was a singer called Kieth George who was excellent and had us all laughing and singing along. We all remarked what a lovely friendly establishment this is with really nice landlords and staff. We will be going again very soon and with its lovely outside area, spotless toilets and lovely decor we would all highly recommend it.

From the front it looks like a pub selling pub food, but actually, it,s better than that. The interior decor is still very pubby (nothing wrong with that), but the food is much better than you'd normally get in a pubby pub. My lunch was excellent. My only comment would be that the staff should spend more time facing the front - there was a lot of stuff being done with their backs to the diners. But it's a great place to eat before a visit to the Old or Young Vic, if you like your food more than your beer.

This pub is in an excellent location on the Thames. It’s very busy so you may not get a table. We did and ordered some food. We ordered pulled pork nachos, a chicken main and a chicken sharing dish. They were all ok but just ok. The nachos were not very good quality and finding the pork was a task. The main chicken ‘Hunter’s Chicken’ was dry and over cooked. Then a few minutes later she came back and said sorry, only one sole.I can appreciate that certain items will be withdrawn when they have all gone but think there should be an advance warning when certain dishes are getting low, particularly as the kitchen looks out onto the dining area. Also, the presentation was poor. Out I went, for a thoroughly intense knees-up with Janto, Chunger and Big Mervyn. After drowning our sorrows with Big Merv’s inheritance from his deid Mam, and ingesting some lighter fluid avec workerman’s glue, we headed to The Joker for a knees up. First in, Chunger got in the pints which were all exceedingly tasty and helped wash down the acrid tang of glue at the back of my throat. It was only after Janto repeatedly and brazenly kept impersonating a couple on a date next to us, by doing the young man’s lovely, soft posh accent that things really got funny. ‘WHAT IS SO FUNNY?’ He boomed. ‘Please let’s just leave, these men are savages and I think they’re on something, they’re out of their heads!’ said his date. We laughed some more and Merv said, too right, we’re out of our heads on good times, and also a heavy dose of my deid Ma’s dosh. ‘You sick freaks’ intoned the gent. ‘You think you’re so funny!’ It was then that Chunger stood up and roared with the strength of a hurricane into his own pint glass - ‘I AM TRYING TO HAVE A LAUGH. MY FATHER WAS NOT VERY NICE TO ME’ We fell about the floor laughing and ordering more pints which flowed as fast as the beautiful currents of the Arno. Things became decidedly ugly when I took a gulp of the young gent’s gravy which was on his plate, but Big Mervyn settled accounts by leaning on the man’s shoulder and whispering a few sweet nothings. Overall, I had a cracking night and the craic was 90 as we Ho Ho Ho’d all the way home with the young couple’s umbrella which they very kindly gave to us, as well as £50, which was very generous.
