I have emailed this message to the restaurant with no response - perhaps this may elicit one! My rating of 'poor' here is relating to the cost and quality of the meal on this particular occasion, based on the following experience: We've been coming to Amirah's kitchen regularly for a couple of years and love your food. However on our last visit (Thursday 2nd April) when ordering the Achari Paneer I was taken aback to be served a (large) plate only partially filled with food, with none of the usual delicious accompanying pickled vegetables which make this dish such a treat. At first I thought it was a mistake as the plate was so large and more than half of it was bare, having only 4 pieces of paneer on it, but the waiter who served it to us said that the menu had recently changed. It seems that the style of cooking has also changed as, alongside the sad lack of pickled vegetables, there was none of the delicious tandoori style chargrilling taste to the cheese and the sauce was rather different, which I'm sure wasn't mentioned on the menu. (perhaps it had not yet been updated?) The waiter kindly offered to bring some of the pickled broccoli which I gladly accepted and he brought it over in a separate dish. In terms of service therefore, we have nothing to be concerned about, but I am concerned at the price - the £10.95 for the original dish with accompanying cauliflower / broccoli and a nice salad garnish always seemed a little pricey but I was prepared to pay it as I could never find anything to match it elsewhere and I really loved it. Now though it seems the £10.95 is simply for 4 modest slices of paneer with a little sauce and literally nothing else. I'm finding it hard to reconcile this and feel that it was in any way good value for money. If the quality of the cheese had been its usual standard perhaps I would have been willing to accept this, though I would probably not order it again at this price. However unfortunately the quality was not top notch - there was a very hard inedible bit of cheese to one edge, which would indicate it had been stored incorrectly and dried at the edges / was old? I was taken aback by this as your quality is usually so high. If this was our first visit, it may well have been our last as to be honest we felt a bit ripped off! There is a manager who has often engaged us in conversation, with whom it's a joy to speak as he's obviously passionate about Amirah's. Had he been there we would definitely have spoken to him about these concerns, but unfortunately he was not there and I didn't get the sense that the waiter, as accommodating as he was, would necessarily have been able to highlight our concerns to management. We have always loved your food and your staff are charming, and we hope that other dishes on the menu remain at your previous high quality with this revised paneer dish being an exception. So whilst we wouldn't stop coming to Amirah's because of this, I feel it would be helpful for you to know that we think there is an issue here. If there's any way you could bring the original delicious paneer dish back onto the menu that would be fantastic. If not, perhaps you could consider reflecting the size of the new dish in the price? As it was most certainly more a modest 'starter size' dish than a main.

My wife and I ate here on Saturday night. We wandered in 'on spec' and are we glad that we did. The food really was excellent, full of flavour, beautifully cooked, presented in authentic looking dishes, and, best of all, served by really lovely staff. If you are south London and want an excellent Indian meal, you should be going here. We live in Devon and visit our son in London, and we will be looking forward to our next trip up, knowing we will be back to eat here.

I've eaten in at Amirahs about 10 times and had take away even more, the food and service is excellent every time. How anyone on here can even question the quality of food or the price is beyond me (probably prefer chip shop curry from a tin) I would dare to say it's some of the finest Indian food I've had in London (it is definitely up there with Dishoom). Ask for the Lamb shank curry and you're in for a treat and for £10 this is excellent value. If you want to save even more money you can have a great meal at £12.99 for two courses.

Ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo. Consigliato.

Curieusement le serveur ne comprend pas notre anglais et ne comprend pas que nous voulons de l'eau du robinet. We were eating early for dinner (5.30pm) so chose the fixed menu which was exceptionally good value for food that couldn't be faulted. If only every neighbourhood Indian was like this. We decided to share the mains but not the starters. Nichola declared her ground lamb kebabs "delicious". My Murg Kaleji Tak-A-Tak (chicken livers flash-fried with coriander) was excellent - the dark richness of the liver cleverly spiced - and pretty, served in a poppadom basket which I ate, greedily, at the end. The buttery, spicy, almondy sauce enveloping the chicken tikka was so delicious we scraped naan, and in my case roti, round the bowl to get every last bit up. Cauliflower tikka and marinated paneer, served with a smear of a fiery minty sauce, contrasted well with the slight sweetness of the chicken. A cooling pistachio kulfi rounded it off - after we'd finished a very good, and well-priced, bottle of South African Pinotage. I'll be back - to eat from the main menu. The only query I have is about its name - describing food this good as street food gives the wrong impression. I'm a huge fan of Indian street food but the food here is at a much higher level.

Enjoyed our meal here - food was tasty and service was good but not sure if it warranted the final bill when there are lots of other Indian restaurants not too far from Wandsworth Town that have good quality food at a bit of a cheaper price. £12.55 for a lamb curry dish just seemed a bit expensive for us so not sure if we'd return. Visited the restaurant on a week night towards the end of last year (can't remember the month!) there was us and one other table and it seemed really quite and lacked a bit of atmosphere. Maybe if the dishes were cheaper it would be busier! They seem to do well with takeaways though.

First, the positives: the restaurant has reasonable decor. Do NOT, however, be fooled by the reviews here: the food is TERRIBLE. Probably the worst Indian food I've eaten, ever, anywhere. Sainsbury's value-curry is gourmet compared to this lot. Even the mango lassey was a joke: it was sickeningly sweet with undissolved granules (?sugar or mix?) at the bottom of the glass. We ordered saag paneer: which was tasteless canned spinach; a paneer dish, which was literally paneer floating in Campbell's tomato soup. An aubergine dish, which comprised a few pieces of aubergine floating in another tasteless soup. It would be bad enough if the food was the only problem with this joint. Unfortunately, the service was also POOR, with food taking 1 hour to arrive. It would be bad enough if the food was horrible and the service poor, but the bill was outrageous for the quantity and more especially quality (and given that one can eat real, authentic Indian food at one third the price in Tooting): 50 pounds for a tasteless, non-filling meal. Do yourself a BIG favour and avoid this joint.

Celebrated our wedding at Amirah Kitchen for lunch yesterday and the food, organisation and hospitality was more than we had hoped for! First off, Sumon (the restaurant manager) and his team printed off the set menu that we had agreed on and presented them very nicely for our guests. We had more people that we originally had expected and the team were able to arrange extra seating easily and quickly, without any fuss. From starters though to main through to dessert, the food and drinks were of a very high standard. We had ordered lamb seekh kebabs as part of our starters and normally in Indian restaurants this dish can be very hit and miss. Yesterday this starter was neither undercooked nor overcooked but just right. Very impressed! The mains were also excellent and Sumon and his team provided some alternative dishes to ensure dietary requirements were met and everyone was satisfied. This is particularly impressive because this was done on an individual basis. Superb customer service!Just before writing our review we noticed that there had been a few negative comments about this restaurant which is very surprising as we have always received great food and service here, that is why we brought back our wedding party. We can highly recommend this venue for larger groups (20 plus). Thanks Amirah Kitchen!!

We ate at this place last Saturday. I'd been given a £10 voucher based upon spending more than £30. Which was fine. The manager, when I showed him the voucher, wasn't exactly chuffed and said he'd see what he could do...In hindsight, we should have walked away then. Instead we waited while he came back and said that it would be OK so long as we spent over £30. Er...did we not understand that before we went there???!My partner and I shared an £8.50 starter and then had two mains along with three beers. The starter was fine but the mains, Both chicken from the tandoori oven, were dry, not very hot and pretty tasteless. We didn't enjoy it at all. When the bill came, (£64, so expensive for what we had when you consider the poor quality) they'd managed to 'forget' the £10 discount voucher. And they added a service charge of 12.5% (I think it was). I reminded the manager of the voucher who was very surprised at their oversight and replaced the £64 bill with one for £54. We paid.It was only after we'd left I realise the service charge had been added to the full bill and not the discounted bill. Clever, eh.Poor quality food. Unhappy experience. Not cheap. We certainly won't be going back.

Above and beyond the call of duty. All of the food was excellent. I agree with Stuart A... "From the minute you enter this restaurant you are greeted with smiling enthusiastic staff, who are only too willing to make every second count" During the same week we ate out at 4 other restaurants in Wandsworth, (3 on this street) and they could all benefit from sending their staff to be trained at AMIRAH'S KITCHEN on "SERVICE" Also whilst we were there, the two ladies sat next to us had such a fantastic meal and service the day before at Amirah's that they made the decision not to even try the other restaurants on the street, and returned TO Amirah's the following day. From the minute you enter this restaurant you are greeted with smiling, enthusiastic staff who are only too willing to make every second special. The menu was exciting and well described offering a selection of food that is not normally offered in main stream Indian eateries. I had one of the most amazing Biryani's ever and the other friends eating with me had main courses ranging from the Goan Fish Curry to the Achari Lamb Shank and all looked and tasted fabulous. Although quite small and cosy, the restaurant design and decoration works well in transporting the guests into another world. This is definitely an a place I would return to again and again and I have no doubt that awards for the quality and variety of food on offer will soon be arriving on the doorstep of this wonderful find. Well done to the chef and staff of Amirah's Kitchen - top marks!!

Unfortunately, I know what great authentic Indian food tastes like, and this place is no where even close to what Indian food represents. The starter was bland and lacked any seasoning. The mixed grill prawns were rubbery. The Byriani stodgy and tasteless!! The chicken tikka masala was sweet ketchup with chicken lumps! What a disappontment and totally overrated. Then on the bill (after we got it back from the waiter, who was proforming Magic tricks!) we noticed the 12.5% non-discretionary charge !!! They even charge 95p for each poppadom, so sad. High London prices for back street kitchen quality. Beware!!

Made the mistake of visiting this place after reading all the positive reviews. The food right from the appetizers to the main course was downright tasteless, very disappointed. The prices they charge are an insult to injury and you can find much better food at your local grocery store frozen food section or those ready to eat meals. Just a word of advice, if you really want to go there because of the reviews then just order an appetizer and see for yourself what I'm talking about. That way at least you won't get completely robbed! Absolutely rubbish food! Save your money and just avoid this restaurant. These people even charge for the condiments that come with poppadoms!! What a joke!

I've been a regular at Amirah's Kitchen and I go because the food is truly tasty and has a range of complex flavours. The owner takes care to use high quality ingredients and at busy times you may have to wait a while. That's because everything is cooked freshly and as close to perfection as they can make it. Poppadoms and pickles are charged for because they are not the standard pickles that many restaurants serve - these are fresh and with flavour. The thalis - both meat and veggie are a joy to eat.... and I am not a relative or partner in the business, just someone who enjoys their food and how consistently good it is.

Bit disappointing given the other reviews - the vindaloo was so hot I couldn't eat it and I'm Indian !. Quite expensive too. Lamb chops were good though

Easily the best indian food / curry in SW London. Always deliver on time. Really tasty, interesting menu! YUM! This place was a revelation when I returned from working in India for a month and couldn't find anything that was as good as the real thing.

Food was very good when it finally arrived. The owner was very apologetic for the late delivery, and provided a few bottles of free beer to make up for it. Would've been good if they called me before I chased up the order though.

I have been lucky to have had many a meal at Amirah's Kitchen on Old York Road, and after venturing to other nearby Indian restaurants I can safely say, in my opinion, that it is the best in the area. The Biryanis are beautifully fragranced with the rice cooked perfectly. My sister had possibly one of the best Indian dishes I have ever tasted - the tandoori prawns. The staff are always nice and knowledgeable about the range of slightly unusual dishes. Definitely recommended.

This could be fine as a take away. And that's their main business. As for eating in the restaurant, I wouldn't bother. It's so quiet that you think you're in the wrong place. ( Saturday evening!) The food was ok. Nothing special which was such a disappointment after reading the reviews. But the most annoying thing was the service which was dreadful. It felt quite rude that the waiters gave all their attention to sorting out the take away orders and ignored us for over an hour after we'd had starters. We were offered another beer on the house but as we'd already had enough we didn't accept. Despite the apologies there was no offer to reduce our bill. A lost evening for us.

Fantastic food and friendly service. Go for the street food platter - distinctive, good variety, tasty. I would go again.

Chose this place for dinner with my sister. It was convenient as it was so close to the overground station. It was a Monday evening, so the restaurant was pretty quiet. The manager came up to us once we were seated and explained that the menu was in the process of being updated and suggested we tried some complimentary tasters for the new menu!! They were delicious!!We also ordered our mains... Which were very tasty too!Throughout, our waiter and the manager were very attentive and we were never waiting long for the food or drinks, or having our plates collected, etc. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone else.

Excellent service, incredibly friendly and very tasty, large portioned food. The poppadoms and rice in particular were really good, some of the best I've had and all in all a very good meal. Also enjoyed the wine which I don't always have with curry but we were in the mood and they had a good wine list.

As soon as we walked in we were ignored. The ringing phone was more important. The dumb waiter screeched incessantly, and a voucher we were initially told was valid had extra "caveats". The food is average fare with a different name to justify the mark up. When we were finally permitted to order the waiter walked off mid-sentence without even an "excuse me" to answer, you guessed it, the ringing phone.

Never been here before.. Food gorgeous. Had paratha, Prawn biryani, Kebabs and freshly made tea. Travelled from west London. Well worth the journey. Asad was really good getting our order and generally really helpful. Thank you. I will be back.

I visited Spice Village Tooting today with my father and brother after a medical appointment in London Westminster. An hour long journey after the appointment we were expecting a pleasant dining experience, but what we encountered was total opposite. From the moment we arrived, the service was unprofessional. Front-of-house staff were seated casually at a table eating, while another staff member was engrossed in paperwork and working on a laptop. Neither bothered to greet us or make any effort to provide a welcoming atmosphere. Instead, we were bluntly told to “go in and find my staff, he somewhere there.” The state of the restaurant was even more shocking. Hygiene standards were non-existent. The tables were filthy, and the water feature on the wall was covered in mold and grime, with visibly dirty water inside. The entire place felt neglected and unclean, utterly unacceptable for a dining establishment. When I raised my concerns with a staff member and asked to speak to the manager, I was told he was at the bar. After locating him, I explained that the environment was making me feel physically sick. Instead of addressing the issues, he responded rudely, raising his voice and refusing to come with me to inspect the problems. Instead, he instructed me to take another staff member to show them. The lack of accountability, coupled with the appalling hygiene and unprofessionalism, left us no choice but to walk out. This was, without question, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I will never return to Spice Village Tooting and cannot, in good conscience, recommend it to anyone. Avoid at all costs. I am currently consulting with their local health and hygiene professionals to report my concerns and ensure appropriate action is taken.

The best indian restaurant in the area, by far. We ordered garlic chicken, saag bahji and pilau rice. It was all very good, and good sized portions. Ready for collection in 15 minutes. Thanks.
