First visit with a group of 22 on a week day evening. Firstly the welcome was very warm and the staff very helpful. I’m gluten free and had no problem ordering with lots of choices. Can particularly recommend the onion bahjis which were delicious and very fresh. The service was very organised for such a large group and all the meals came out at the same time. Top up drinks orders were also checked regularly. I can recommend this independently run family business. Will definitely be returning

I ordered a takeout this evening for my son’s birthday . First experience of this restaurant, it was truly appalling.i did speak to the owner and complained over the phone, because I’d rather do that than put it on line. He did offer to resend it in 5 minutes …..really?.. I declined, and was not offered a refund, and because of that I’m now putting my views out there.I wasted nearly £25 on pure tasteless slop. Never again

Honest review from a former employee, left this evening regarding a wages dispute (not willing to pay staff properly), will also add details of some little truths which may make you think twice about eating here #1 Staff Treatment #2 Food #3 Hygiene #1 They pay drivers £60 a night for 5:30pm- 10:30pm, which is low but when you factor in the £20 a night fuel you put in your own car delivering sometimes upwards of 100 miles a night out to the surrounding villiages is a bit ridiculous, not to mention if it’s a quiet night, and you finish just 15/20 minutes early, you get paid £10 less, so on these occasions, you walk away with a mere £30 for 5 hours work. I got home at 11:30pm after finishing my last delivery and politely requested I be paid an extra hour as this is only right given what I’ve explained above, I was told they would speak to me about this the following day, which they didn’t. When I didn’t turn up the next day, as I wasn’t getting paid properly (granted only an hour but it’s the principle), I was met with messages where I was being sworn at and told I’m ruining their business, which I will follow up with on the next paragraph, I still haven’t been paid the extra and although it’s only a small amount of money, it’s the principle on how they treat their staff. When they’ve had late orders they’ve also asked that I tell the customer I was stuck in traffic or find a similar excuse, rather than owning up or just simply saying it’s busy, passing the blame to the already underpaid driver. #2 Ever wondered why your food is sometimes late? Various reasons, although one of these is that they don’t correctly check they have the supplies to fulfil the expected demand of that evening, which results in the screenshot I’ve posted, your authentic Indian cuisine that you’re paying good money for is nothing more than an Asda ready meal. #3 I don’t doubt that after seeing this review they will change this, but chefs are supposed to wear hairnets and aprons to prevent food contamination, however the majority of the chefs here cook in their casual clothes, no PPE or hygiene standards in sight, I also once witness meat skewers sat on the floor propped up against a wall All in all I could go on forever about the lack of professionalism and basic standards that are not met at this eatery, but I sadly don’t have time to write a book, I’d strongly avoid eating here at all costs, but it’s not up to myself to make that choice. I don’t care about the money, they can keep it for all I care, but this is not the way to run a business and I believe their customers should be made aware of this.

First time we have visited. Looking forward to visiting again. Delightful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were a party of 4. Fresh poppadoms accompanied by a varied tasty pickle tray. We all choose different dishes. Each one was equally delicious.

We decided to try Amirs as we had not been for years and also having a tasteless Indian elsewhere. The downstairs is geared for takeout food. We were shown to our table upstairs by a very friendly lady. The restaurant had seen a new owner and had been tastefully decorated. A huge selection on the menu and our meals were so tasty. The lady who served us was so attentive and couldn’t do anything that you’d be disappointed by. She even bought my husband a free beer when I ordered my second drink, placing it on the table and informing us “ It’s free for a new customer” We will definitely be back. Thank you

First time customer, it will be the last time!! Called and ordered takeout, guy who answered sounded confused or drunk, this was 8.30pm Made him repeat the order back to me 3 times, was told to collect in 45 mins/an hour, after 40 mins they rang to ask where we were!! Said food was waiting and they didn’t want it to get cold, husband was already on his way. Once home, we noticed a dish was missing and one of the dishes was wrong. Onion bhaji was hard, naan was thick and hard. Called to complain and was offered replacement dish but it was 9.50pm by then so we said no. Why would I want more food that they couldn’t get right and was low quality? Very disappointed in the service and food. I was left hungry as I couldn’t eat it Don’t waste your time, I have bought better from Morrisons

The food was so nice. Staff was so attentive. Atmosphere is well decorated. Inhave taken papadom, Onion baji, Retford Korahi Jalfrezi. This was beef. Absolutely briliant. I personally gibe all credit to the chef and others who is cooking nice delixious indian food here. Thank you again.

What a restaurant.. we went for an 18th birthday, and we were greeted the moment we stepped in. Warm and friendly bar staff. They showed us to our seats and took our drinks order. Throughout the meal we were very well looked after. The food was absolutely amazing. I started with onion bhajis... beautiful cooked with a nice crunchy outside. I then opted for the paneer rogan josh and it was beautiful. The portion size was enough for 2 meals. I will enjoy it for lunch tomorrow. I also ordered the garlic rice and cheese naan. The rice was cooked to perfection and the naan was so fresh it tasted amazing. The rest of the party thoroughly enjoyed all their food too, ranging from a chicken bhuna, butter chicken and a special biriani. Everyone adored the poppadoms and the pickle tray, in fact we asked for more. The restaurant itself was cosy and well set out. It felt clean and fresh. Even with the heat there was a cool breeze in the area. I can not express how polite and lovely all the staff were and they made us all feel very welcome. Definitely be going back and would recommend to anyone who loves a curry.

I ordered a take-away for collection and, despite being on a Saturday night, it was still ready within 10 minutes of their estimated pick-up time. I ordered Lamb Makhanie and caulifower bhaji side dish and it was piping hot and the lamb was incredibly tender and succulent in a delicious sauce. I would definitely have this again.But when I arrived, the girl behind the counter had just taken a call from someone asking for help ordering online. She had to start by explaining how to use the Google Chrome search engine to find them (which they couldn't!) and then she was patience itself describing the sort of dishes they sold and how spicy they were and explaining how the delivery service worked. I said that her customer service was the most impressive I have ever seen. She was so kind and patient with what seemed to be an elderly customer. Amir's - not only is your food fabulous - you also have a real asset in your member of staff. I will definitely be back and will recommend you very highly.

We ordered a takeaway for delivery from here whilst staying at a hotel in the area. I have never come across an Indian with such a huge selection of vegetarian options, we really were spoilt for choice and consequently ended up ordering far more than needed for two people.The driver delivered to the hotel and rang to say our food was outside. It was piping hot and delicious and the flavours in each dish were varied.So impressed!

Rang through order for collection,on getting home with order it was the wrong one. Returned having rang up to be given our order within 5mins apparently freshly done. The chicken korma is all sauce with bits of chicken dropped in at some point. The lamb tikka masala was not tikka masala . The food is poor and not freshly cooked. My partner travelled back because of their mistake and was offered nothing in goodwill. We will definitely not go back or recommend ,worse Indian food in this area.would mark less than one if possible.

Used just eat and had home delivery. Recently moved to Retford and not used this restaurant before. Food arrived earlier than predicted. It was absolutely delicious and hot. Will defo use again and recommend. Nicest curry we have had in a long time. Well done!

Amers is a good go-to place for the curry club gang. We enjoy the chilled atmosphere and the food which is always a fair price, we've never had a bad experience here and the staff are always in good spirits. This Indian restaurant always reminds me of the ones that Del Boy visits in 'Only Fools and Horses', the interior isn't the ritz but thats what we like! A good curry and a fair few drinks, Amers is the place to go! To su it up, it's the kind of place you'd take a girl on a date for a good cheap curry, always knowing in the back of your head that she really isn't the one.

The food was good, service was good we were celebrating a birthday so just a midweek meal no one else in there had the restaurant to ourselves.

Since Amer has left Amers of Retford, the standard of food and service has gone down significantly. I wrote a review in 2016 praising this restaurant to the hilt (and deservedly so). However, now Amer has left, My Wife and I will not be eating there again (we have tried it twice since Amer left) and I will not be able to recommend this restaurant to my friends and family which I was always more than keen to do. What a shame.....

I used to really enjoy the takeaway food here. It used to take a while (always slightly longer than quoted - often 40 minutes or so) but always good value, very hot (temperature) and fresh and tasty. I stopped going a while ago as I found the food was regularly sitting in the reception for a while and not very warm when i got gome (I live less than a mile away). I returned a couple of months ago and hoped things had improved. Sadly not. The food is always ready even if i get there well ahead of the oft quoted 20 minutes, it is only just warm. The rice is usually cold! I have noticed the quality of food has deteriorated. The Madras varies from mildly spicy to burning hot (sadly not temperature wise!) And the papadums are cold and greasy. Sorry Amers but I have done my best to stay with you, but your food isn't good enough and too expensive!

The Amers restaurant in Retford is not so easily seen. It stands away from the main shopping centre and looks like a redbrick Victorian house at the very end of Grove Street by the traffic lights.

Here you have a lovely atmosphere and the service is excellent, I had the chiefs special curry with special rice, garlic naan with fry's and my wife had the chicken Buna there were plenty of meat in these meals we also had a nice bottle of red wine it was fantastic we both highly recommend this restaurant you will be silly not to try it.

We only had a take away, but the meal was tasty and enjoyable. Large portions, we couldn't eat it all. Naan bread also tasty and large sizes. We've not had an Indian take away from Retford for a while, as other restaurants have been disappointing. We will definately return to Amers for our next take away.

Fantastic Indian restaurant! Quite a small place and the seating area is upstairs so not suitable for wheelchairs. Due to it being small I would also book in advance so as not to miss out. The food though is brilliant and well worth every penny you spend! Great variety and quite quick serving but not rushing you at the end to leave. All the staff are kind and helpful if there is any problems. The takeaway is also the exact same standard as if you were eating in the restaurant. Will definitely be coming back soon

Have been a regular for a number of years now and have struggled to find a better Indian restaurant. Staff are friendly and food is unbelievable. Have only had takeaways but will have a proper sit down meal soon inside. Easily the best in Retford and surrounding areas!

Me and my family order our Indian takeaways from Amers on a regular basis simply because they are the best quality in the Retford area. No others compare to Amers. If you haven't tried it you don't know what you're missing.
