The Amarcord was perfect to combat jet lag on our first night in London! The waitress was very Italian and as a result we had some communication issues, but nothing that could not be managed. The food (salad, pizza, seafood) was fresh and of excellent quality. The prices were very reasonable and there was an offering for a salad, main and glass of wine that was 10 or 11 GBP. Very enjoyable!

I was unaware that there were two Amarcord restaurants within a minute of each other so once I saw the identical design I entered to eat with my tastecard. I had entered the Amarcord Museum rather than the restaurant I had booked. The waiter could not speak English and didn’t acknowledge the fact that I was confirming my reservation. He later brought me toothpicks when I asked for a straw. During the meal, the waiters switched and when I passed him my tastecard I was informed of the identical restaurant around the corner. I could not use the discount and I paid more than I initially planned. I don’t appreciate being told I should’ve shown my tastecard/asked when the waiter didn’t even understand me throughout the meal. I wouldn’t go back as this cannot be the first time this has happened.

A very quick lunch for two. A simple pair of salads, a 'Ceasre' and a 'Capresse' and a beer. Shame the beer was 'Stella' not that I've got anything against it per se but it is an Italian restaurant. There seemed to be some sort of mistake in the kitchen and we were brought food that should have gone elsewhere. The one meal was promptly removed, the other left for me to look at and wonder if or when its compatriot would appear. In the event it was removed and the correct meals delivered. They were very competent salads. The bill paid we went on our way feeling fuller - would I go again - yes.

I have visited this restaurant countless times! Totally love it and whenever I want to get Italian food this is always my number 1 choice. Decor and presentation very nice, location is super central and close to a tube station, staff are very polite, fun and friendly, and finally the food is absolutely delicious! I love ordering a couple of dishes including tricolore salad, sea food pasta and any of their authentically made Italian pizzas. The manager Tony is an fantastic and treats his customers with respect, kindness and like they are family. He is always happy, friendly and makes an effort to know his customers. Super close to the tube station Russell Square and lots to do in this nice area that is Bloomsbury so after visiting this amazing restaurant there is the nice shopping area Bloomsbury you can visit, a few local, top universities to explore or the beautiful Russell Square Park. So this restaurant not only has the best staff and food but the location is also very good. Highly recommended!

We stopped here for a late lunch. The waiter was efficient but brusque. There was no-one else in the restaurant, which I generally view as an indication of poor food/service. My meat was overlooked, with frozen roast potatoes. At least the broccoli and carrots were freshly cooked. My friends all ordered pasta and pizza. They all found their food to be edible but not worth the money charged. After we had paid, I noticed a sign stating that all pizza or pasta meals were on offer with a salad and drink for £10.95. Not once was this offer mentioned to us at the table, and my friends all had to pay the full price, which I view as deceitful on the restaurant's behalf. And automatically adding a service charge to a bill is just infuriating!

One evening during our recent trip to London, my wife and I wanted a simple dinner, not far from our hotel, so we went to Amarcord, just down the street. We had no trouble getting a table, as I remember, without a reservation. We were looking for vegetarian options, and those were available. The food was delicious. The service, especially when it came to getting the check, was a little bit slow. I think that the restaurant might have been understaffed, because we saw the wait staff running around constantly. Our daughter, who lives in London, said that Americans and Brits have different expectations when it comes to the pace of service.

When we first arrived, one very harried young woman was trying to look after the whole restaurant, and it wasn't working. We waited ages for her to take our order. Ten minutes later she returned wanting to take our order, having somehow lost it. I was doing a fair amount of teeth-gnashing. But then our starters arrived, and my fried calamari was nice and crisp, and came with a delicious sauce and a small salad. The young woman was joined by a very attentive and charming male colleague, and my main, tagliatelle al salmone, was somewhere between a B and a B-plus. ('er Indoors' pasta arrabiata was too spicy for her to eat, but Charming Male Colleague offered to have it recooked for her!) Both the creme brulee and tiramisu were delicious. The best part of the meal, for which we paid with a Wowcher, was that the restaurant didn't present us with a 12.5 percent service charge on the full retail price of our meal, as, for instance, Life Goddess in Carnaby Street, does, so we left feeling un-ripped off, which was of course very pleasant.

We went on a "wowcher" deal and were pleasantly surprised by the number of dishes offered as part of the deal. The stuffed mushroom starter was different as it had chopped carrots and beans in it as well as the usual sauce. I much preferred this though my husband wasn't so keen. The calamari looked quite chunky but was succulent when tasted. Sea bass mains were a nice size portion (neither of us like plates piled high with food) and the tagliatelle with smoked salmon was delicious. The desserts were disappointing after the previous courses, and the service was rather slow considering there were only 3 couples eating! The outside does look more like a cafe than a restaurant which is a shame as the food is more restaurant quality. Probably will go back, but not bother with dessert next time.

Southampton Row has many restaurants of different cuisines. This family run Italian restaurant is on the western side near the Bedford Hotel and 100 metres south of Russell Square Tube Station. It is basically a large room with a contemporary , simple decor and the kitchen area at the rear divided by a glass screen. The menu is unashamedly traditional . We both chose the bruschetta pomodoro and the scallopine alla valdosta. Both were excellent. Deserts to follow were chocolate ice cream and tiramisu. The latter was perfect. Booked an Italian restaurant near our hotel based on the 4/5 on Trip Advisor. Waitress didn't understand English very well but all seemed ok when we ordered after some careful explanations. Starters and mains arrived together (as expected) but only for 3 of 4 of us. My pizza didn't arrive but I waited 10 minutes, thinking it was surely coming. Eventually we asked where it was and they realised they hadn't ordered it for me - presume the waitress thought only 3 of the 4 of us wanted a meal!! So 10 minutes later my pizza came out burnt and unimpressive, with a quick "oh sorry" but no real interest.... My brother couldn't eat his meal - I tried it but it wasn't great, pasta with processed chicken chopped up into small cubes. Service was very slow and sloppy. Good news was they kept the tables around us clean, spraying the disinfectant everywhere - which was not a nice smell/taste in the air when eating. Bill came with 10% added already. I asked waitress to take that off (explaining the service wasn't great) and so she and 2 other waitresses came and stood by our table making it awkward - no sorries, just annoyance they were losing their tip it seemed!

We ate lunch at this restaurant after a visit to the British Museum. We did not have reservations but were able to find an open table. They have outdoor and indoor seating. We had the Risotto alla Marinara, Spaghetti alla Carbonara, and Pizza Margherita. The service was good. The flavor was authentic Italian. The wine list is short but good and includes Italian wines. Good value! Highly recommended!

We had a tremendous night at this Italian restaurant. All the staff were extremely friendly. We started off with 2 bottles of prosecco and cheesy garlic bread. For starters we had the tuna and the pate, beautifully presented and tasted great. The main courses were chicken alfredo, and spaghetti marinara, these were two of the best dishes we had ever tasted. This is a great restaurant with great staff that really care what they put in front of you. Highly recommend if your in the area. We will be back.

Tony the manager is a friendly chap and the food here is reliable and consistent with special offers including 50 percent off on the taste card and other offers even if you don't have a taste card. It is a good place to know in Bloomsbury and fairly small and cosy but somewhere you would probably find yourself returning to, as I have done loads of times, particularly if you live in Bloomsbury! So whether you re a tourist or a local, if you are looking for a decent reliable Italian you could do a lot worse than Amarcord. As a cinema buff I quite like the fact that the restaurant is named after Fellini's movie, (not that I have seen it), but it's gives the place a nice touch. The staff always seem nice enough, often from Europe here also to improve their English and I feel like it is time again for me to pay a visit soon.

This is a lovely little place right around Holborn and the British Musem with excellent food. The staff is friendly and very nice but also quiet and laid back. This is not a chain, no street food here, no boring old imitations of Italian fast food. This is classic. It really has that perfect casual but refined and traditional feel to it. THE FOOD IS WONDERFUL. Go for the specials, definitely try the soups, and you cannot go wrong with seafood, they make it like it should be. Budget-friendly prices and a location close enough to almost anything in the city. Family friendly but not overly. Perfect for a quick lunch before an afternoon of leisure or work. Or a casual date even.

逛好大英博物馆出来,找了这家店想喝点东西。结果点了份ice tea,看着服务员只倒了半杯就不给了,敢不敢再小气点,留半瓶立顿再卖给别人??!?第一次碰到这种店!

Had the Halibut which was excellent and my wife's prawn and avocado starter looked really good. We will be in London again in September, and as it is handy for our hotel, I will be going back as I fancy one of the veal dishes.

I have read some of the negative reviews and can't believe we went to the same restaurant. We popped in here as it was doors away from our hotel. Mixed salad, Pizza or Pasta of your choice and a glass of wine £10.95 !!!!!! We both had Pizza and enjoyed it all so much we returned the following night. My husband had a different Pizza and I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, all food was piping hot and delish. Service attentive and not in your face. We enjoyed the glass of house wine so much we decided to buy a bottle, that doesn't happen often with house wines. Although some seating can be found outside we preferred to sit inside as its a very busy road. Should we return to London without a doubt we will be returning here.

£10.95 for a salad, pasta and a glass of wine, I didn't like it that the 10% service charge was added, ironic though, I would have left more if it wasn't!

This was a great restaurant across from our Thistle Bloomsbury Hotel in London. We ate here 3 out of 4 nights we were in town...friendly management & staff, good food, really convenient! There are several pizza places nearby but we really liked the ambiance here at Amarcord.

Found this restaurant after seeing a show in London, quite by accident. The restaurant isn't large but cosy.Greeted by a friendly young lady who showed us to a table for 2.Menu's were delivered and drinks ordered. After browsing the menu my wife had Bruschetta Pomodoro(3 pieces of garlis bread with tomatoes, onions and basil),which she said was tasty, myself i ordered Insalata Caprese(Mozarella, tomato, and basil) again fresh and tasty. We both ordered Lasagne AL Forno for main course, seemed to be fresh pasta, well presented and tasty.Desert were Profiteroles for my wife and home made Tiramasu for myself. With a beer,a glass of wine and coffee,a reasonable bill of £54:50(service included),not bad for the capital.Overall a nice little restaurant with tasty food and friendly staff.

popped into this restaurant for a quick early dinner and was not disappointed, there was an issue with my Arrabiata pasta being way to spicy but the waitress and manager dealt with it and without hesitation my order was changed for something else, we all know things go wrong but it is the way that it is dealt with that counts and in this case there was no delay in changing my dish which meant that my friend and me could still eat our meal at the sametime, well done to all

We were attracted by a very appealing looking lunchtime special advertised in front of the restaurant. Unpretentious Italian decor, excellent service and a very good meal. Had we had more time We'd have returned for dinner another night to try out some other dishes. Good value. very satisfying.

Wandered in here before theater for their pasta/pizza special. It was value for money- the pizza was huge, fresh, hot and delicious. The salad was acceptable, and the house wine was fine. Service was quick and friendly. There are a few tables outside. This is a grand stop if you are staying in Bloomsbury or visiting the British museum.

Restaurant italien sans prétention qui propose une cuisine classique de bonne qualité pour un bon rapport qualité-prix. Personnellement je recommande: pizzas, pennes, risotto, mais je n'ai pas apprécié les taglatielles.

Poor service and blah food. Was intrigued by the special (pasta or pizza, salad, and a glass of wine for 10.50), outdoor seating and extensive menu. Salad was served with no dressing, which was brought to us after 7 minutes and we had to ask for it. Asked for water and never got it. My husband got lasagna which was really bad. Some sort of spinach noodles with hardly any meat or cheese and no seasonings. The wrong pizza was brought to me, which they corrected, but by then we were over the place. I love supporting small establishments, but this one was not worth the money :( I gave them a second star because the owner was attentive toward the end.

Food poisoning. We had oysters and lobster. We spent in emergencies from 3:00 in the morning to 17:30 in the evening the day after. Be aware of the seafood and specially the “restaurant director”. So you know the type of person who manages this place: We just reported the situation with good intentions as we were curious on what approach the management would take. We have not asked and we don’t want any kind of compensation but “restaurant director” very passively-aggressively is requesting us via email a letter from NHS confirming that the food poisoning happened in his restaurant if we want a bottle of prosecco as goodwill gesture. As I said, we just want that no one else goes thorough the night we had experience, we don’t want drinks neither food not even refunds, we don’t want any compensations. Better spend your money somewhere else and more reputable where they care about your health. A anniversary date that could have ended up very badly.
