Alpine Restaurant & Bar Ltd in Melton

Visited with a friend for lunch having had the table booked for weeks. It took absolutely ages trying to get any of the waiting staff’s attention, finally gave up and went to the counter to ask and they sent someone over. Food ordered - starters of smoked salmon and beetroot salad, very small portion with the tiniest amount of salmon. Main courses of Sunday roast and one veggie roast with accompanying sides, well wow - the tiniest ramekin of cauliflower cheese imaginable, could have only fitted one floret in! Slightly bigger for the green veggies. Desert was lemon roulade which was very nice. We were asked mid way through to move tables as they needed our table to join to another! Seemed absolutely chaotic. As other diners have said it’s not cheap by any means and when the service is poor and portions tiny it really reflects. Not sure we will visit again which is a real shame.

Visited for breakfast, which was nice, but the music was incredibly loud. I asked for it to be lowered and was ignored until I complained again.Come for the food but bring earplugs.

Visited the Grange with family and dog (yes, it’s dog friendly) and had a stonking breakfast. Full English (traditional and vegetarian) all round was a must amongst a full and varied menu to suit all tastes. Attentive and knowledgeable staff, food piping hot and great value. The cake selection, especially the monster scones, was 1st class (to eat in or take away) The garden plants selection was equally impressive and so well looked after and it was a real pleasure to walk some of our breakfast off afterwards. Well done to all the staff at the Grange.

Came for Sunday lunch here and such a great atmosphere, staff go above and beyond to make our meal enjoyable, even managed a pudding. See you again next week

I booked a table and due to my disability needed access near the door On arrival we noticed that the table we had booked was occupied We were told by the staff that the table was occupied by the previous customers whose meal had over run and was offered an alternative table The table offered was hard to access due to my walking frame and could not have been further from the door if we tried On closer inspection we noticed that the people who occupied the table had arrived at 13.30 and there was a reserved sticker on table for 14.00 To some people this may seem petty however I am a 78 year old disabled widow who has just started going out again after sad loss of my husband I easily panic and get embarrassed due to my mobility This is the 4th time we have eaten here in the last 4 weeks the bill is in excess off £100 and we expected to have the table especially as the same happened last and we were promised it wouldn’t happen again The food was excellent as usual although they forgot extra portions On the up side our waiter Laurent ( or bob ) was excellent funny and welcoming and even offered to fan me as table was incorrect Normally this would been a 4/5 however The Grange is not a£2 for £10 establishment and customer service is an important as the food

We came to the grange on seeing it on social media being recommended as caravan and motor home site well worth a visit , it certainly is , from the minute we got here we were welcomed by john and Katie ( the owners) who checked us in , showed us all the facilities and to our pitch which is very spacious , although hard standing , being one of the larger pitches ( for a very small fee per night extra) it also has a large grassed are too . Electric ( nominal charge) water and grey waste disposal all on the pitch . There is an on site restaurant also a cafe and it is part of a site that also has a garden centre and a couple of small retail outlets ( all totally separate from the caravan park )only 1 .5 miles from the town of melton Mowbray and a dog friendly, small roadway( no cars ) to get you there , the shower facilities were all new and second to none, the place has a very relaxed feel to it but no visitors stag or hen doos and no access in or out at the quiet times later on in the evening which is for us a bonus and we do search these places out . A gift of fresh bread and a scone were brought to us as we were setting up as a gift from john and Katie ( nice thought ) and even a treat for Ollie (our springer ) after tea . Excellent place excellent value for money and we will be back .

Have been twice in the past month and while food is mostly good the service is quite slow and we did struggle to get anyone's attention for a missing item off of the breakfast and being table service we did not want to go and queue at the till, however they did take £1 off at the end for us. Hot chocolate was good but half of it was cream and little drink underneath so I recommend hot chocolate without the cream. Toast was rock hard I couldn't cut it with a knife.

Popped in here to have breakfast before our pork pie making experience - we were not disappointed. My only regret is that I didn't have room to try one of the amazing looking cakes that were on display. Will definitely come again next time we are in the area.

Have been a fairly regular visitor to the restaurant for over a year. Always satisfied with the food and service although can wait along time to be served if busy. Visited yesterday with out of town friends. Simple breakfasts ordered. 2 sausage sandwiches on white bread.OK, Sausages good but bread a bit dry as if out in the air waiting to be served for quite a while. One scrambled eggs on seeded toast, toast dry with very little butter and eggs cooked to death. One poached eggs on toast, toast again dry with very little butter with 2 very small solid poached eggs. None of it very hot.Most disappointing.

We stayed at the Grange Caravan and Camping Park and used their Farmhouse Cafe for breakfast. The park facilities were excellent and the welcome from John, Katie and their staff was extremely warm and welcoming. The shower and toilets were new and well looked after by the cleaning staff. We could not ask for a better stay and we will certainly recommend this park to friends and family

Bit of a disappointing fathers day lunch. No childrens choice on the menu except mini roast. Food was not very hot, lamb had ran out, no stuffing with pork:-( I have been here many times before and food has always been excellent

We had booked in for a Sunday roast and they didn't disappoint! We ended up ordering the Sunday roast platters between 4 of us and a child. Unlimited roast potatoes, yes please!! Food was lovely and would definitely go back again, highly recommend!

Popped in on spec one weekend late morning for coffee/cake. We appreciate you can't always get served these days without a booking but were prepared for that. We were greeted with 'all I can give you is these sofas'. How about 'would you like to sit on our comfy sofas in front of the roaring fire?. Not a lot of flair certainly.We ordered drinks and cakes, they arrived swiftly but oh dear, huge synthetic tasting cakes and the drinks so hot and 'thin' that they were unpleasant too.The carpet on the floor was in need of some attention, the table had ingrained crumbs between the edge and the glass top, the tray our drinks arrived on had cream underneath and was utterly filthy on the top. £29 is way too much for this kind of low grade offering. We won't return.

The Alpine has now become The Mountain restaurant. It remains substantially the same. If you are cyclist like me, it’s a great stop. Cakes are huge. Breakfast menu ends at 11:30.

Ordered drinks and lunch, drinks came but waited for over an hour for our lunch,not told that there would be a wait of over a hour for our food, meal came and was not what we order, wrong meal and things missing, so disappointed as we have not been out for months. Thanks Kim for your apology.

Understand how difficult it is with the limit of the virus but having just waited for over 25 minutes just to give our order is frankly appalling - we left.... They have clearly increased their table numbers but have not thought abt how to manage it. Shocking - very bad way to treat their customers

Knowing that things would take longer and the need to be patient this was not a good experience. Having ordered 2 coffees and a fruit scone the scone was brought out to the table first. Having consumed this ( taking about 10 minutes) I had to remind the waitress about our coffees. I then had to queue to pay where the cashier went missing to help another member of staff on her till. It took about 5 minutes to pay. It did seem that there were not enough staff on duty. Always been extremely happy on previous visits.

Lovely food. The full English breakfast is the best ever. Nice original decor and great service from the team in the restaurant. Great for a meal and an excellent alternative from the usual coffee chains if you are looking for coffee and cake.

I was planning to take a cycle group to this place so decided to try it first. We met friends who were blown away with the comfort, ambience and food. The chilli was too big for our friend to handle but to delicious to waste, so a ‘doggy bag’ was supplied. I have had better fish and chips but still good, while my wife’s Croque Monsieur was superb. The cycle visit took place the next day in freezing conditions, so sitting on sofas next to the roaring log burner was very welcome. We all stuck to cake, which was excellent. My giant scone with jam and cream was delicious. On both occasions the restaurant was extremely busy but the service was fast. Our group has already asked when we will be going again.

The restaurant is lovely & the food was very tasty. We were too full for a cake, so decided to take one home but as they were so big, decided to share one. We are a carrot cake connoisseur but it was awful. 4 people tried it & with the same verdict, so it all went in the bin. Why charge so much for one large cake instead of £2.50 for a smaller slice & we could have had 2 different ones.

Good quality food in a well presented restaurant. Attractive menu with daily specials that vary with a delicious array of cakes which are huge. At 4.95 a slice they should be as well! Really nice staff who engage well with customers.It can get really busy during lunchtimes so be prepared to wait a while but the wait is worth it.Winter is especially nice in the restaurant with the roaring fire and snugly blankets on the chairs. Well worth a visit.

Gorgeous home made cakes! I had an enormous fruit scone. Best ever! Service and ambience is excellent. A great meeting place with friends or family.

This is local and we have visited quite a few times over the years for a change we decided to stay and have a brunch and I am very pleased to say it was excellent - impressed perhaps we will now try a Sunday lumch

Amazing..... we love it, no hurry as it’s Sunday, Keith had Sunday lunch ‘Superb’ and my soup of the day (tomato) was fab and my super food salad, was exactly what it said, superfood.... the service from the staff was without doubt 5* and we will both recommend it to everyone..... we love it THANK YOU, sorry we hadn’t got room for pudding but we’re taking Cake out with us to eat at home this afternoon yum yum xxxx

We were staying on the Graden centre's caravan park in our motorhome for the weekend,. Decided to call in for a cup of tea/coffee and maybe a piece of cake. Bang what a lovely surprise!! Great ambience, great staff and even better great drinks and massive scones at give away proces. Yes it was busy but the staff were attentive and kept tables cleared for new arrivals and were absolutely charming. That afternoon about 15.00 - half an hour befor closing we decided another dink and cake was needed so went in. However, we then decided to have an early dinner! Tarteflette for one and chillie con carne for the other. Both delicious though would have like a little more chille in the chillie. Big portions too. Loved them. So much we didn't eat again that day. But we did treat ourselves to a booking for Sunday lunch. Roast lamb as soft as you would dream of and all cooked to perfection. Great prices £11.95 for the roast, yorkshire, rost potatos, cauliflower cheese and mixed veg. they alos do gluten free, vegetarian and vegan but none of those are our choice. You really must go but leave a table for our next visit.

Called in as in the area staying at eye kettleby in between Xmas and nye the restaurant was very busy but only called to explore for future visits . The size and quality of the cake slices is much more than the average that you expect to find in the average aftenoon tea shop and the quality is perfect along with a pot of tea. My diet crashed but you have to spoil yourself from time to time and this is the place to do it!!

Very disappointed with the cost of the meal as it was advertised as Steak Night, the steaks were very poor quality and were not cooked as required. In fact, one steak meal was refused and sent back after the second time of complaining and being recooked. The atmosphere of the restarunt is very good although quite cold being in the late autumn period. The waitresses very very friendly and helpful. The other menu choices were good but expensive, given the quality of food. we wouldn't go back for a steak meal.

Took the missus out to the Steak night and it was brilliant. There was two singers performing (Gemma and Franklyn) and they were absolutely terrific! Felt like we were in the Swiss alps just for a little while whilst we enjoyed a perfectly cooked seal, beautiful singing and beautiful company

Pop in here at the weekend & order the full English! 3 pork sausages, full of flavour, no gristle. 2 rashers of proper bacon, one egg, tomatoes, beans & toast - free refills on coffee = bonus! All for around £8

What an amazing evening we had!! Birthday party and buffet for 40. Venue is super for any occasion. Breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. Lovely surroundings. Our buffet was fab! The staff could not have done more to make the evening special. Huge thanks to Holly for making sure all was absolutely perfect. If you're passing through Melton Mowbray you must visit.
