Was recommended by Shirley a lady who frequently visits for her Latte. We had a light lunch, mine was haggis with cheese panini very nicely served up. My wife had the cheese brie and cranberry toastie with light salad dressing. Value for money and lovely service from all who work there.

This is a great little cafe in the centre of Stranraer opposite the Millenium Centre. It is small, just 5 or 6 tables, and it is this intimate setting, along with the excellent food that makes it so delightful. There are no airs and graces here, just good food served by a very pleasant and attentive lady, having been freshly prepared in the kitchen by another lady. The breakfast menu choice is extensive, but I highly recommend that The Full Monty which consists of 2 link sausages, 2 rashers of bacon, a slice each of square sausage, haggis and black pudding, 2 slices of potato bread, 2 halves of fried tomato, baked beans and 2 fried eggs ! Phew ! Plus toast and tea or coffee ! The early bird price - £5.25. They also make their own Scotch Eggs, I took one home for lunch one day, it was huge and, more importantly, delicious

This is a must visit place to eat in you visit Stranraer. All is the soups are excellent and they have many regulars who pop in for take away lunch and know the soup schedule! We always have a soup and a proper fluffy jacket potato. And the homemaker cakes are also a bonus- we usually order at the same time as we known the cakes can suddenly fly off the shelves and your choice will then be gone!

This is easily our favourite lunch stop in this part of Scotland. The potatoes are fluffy, the cakes are fabulous (we order all at once in case some one else orders the one we want from the cabinet!) and the soup is absolutely stunning! We always meet people who are regulars and some even know the soup schedule! We were so happy to have lunch on our first visit, we made sure we squeezed in smoother in the same week. We return every time we are in Scotland, but not usually this frequent! Yummmmmy!

We had to visit 3 times in 2 weeks as it was soooooo good! We bumped into some locals who know the soup menu for the week and they said minestrone was to die for! We always have a soup and sandwich combo and the soup is homemade and is always stunning. They usually have at least 2 to choose from and they’re always busy and you often have to wait for a table! Locals pop in all the time with their lunch orders during their break. And also, the homemade cakes are a scrummy! We always order ours at the beginning of the meal as you often see the items disappearing out of the glass display fridge at an alarming rate!

Three senior citizens visited in May last year for coffees in mugs and a slab of delicious fruit cake.Outstanding coffee for Scotland (they prefer Irn Bru or tea!) and in a handy sized mug with chocolate dusting on top.The fruit cake is heavy in fruit and maybe there is even some alcohol in it? Plenty of calories but great for a rare treat.Small room and sometimes not easy to get in or move around but that makes it even cosier for the diners. Closed on Mondays.

We were in Stranraer for a Clan Gathering and decided to explore the town with a recommendation to include the Museum in our wanderings. It was a good recommendation teaching us a lot about the local area using clear, well presented and entertaining materials.Well after so much education, and being near lunchtime, we were looking for another recommendation for a local cafe or restaurant. The staff on reception confirmed what we were told at the Castle of St John - also worth a visit - that the Alexandra Coffee Shop served good home made food. It was just across the road so we wandered over only to see four people already queuing outside because as we discovered the Alexandra Coffee Shop is very small and only has space for around a dozen people at a time. That is a drawback if it’s busy but perfect if you want good food complimented by friendly personal service. As luck would have it a table came free not too long after we arrived and we also had the pleasure of sharing it with two other people which made for interesting conversation as we enjoyed our lunch. Normally sharing a restaurant table would not be the norm but somehow in the Alexandra Coffee Shop it seemed perfectly natural and even desirable given the friendly cosy environment.Being on a diet at that time we were reasonably restrained but I can say with confidence that had we not been counting calories we would have taken a serious tour of their home made cake selection - yum!So if you want to have lunch, or enjoy morning or afternoon coffee or tea with cakes, then Alexandra Coffee Shop is the place to go in Stranraer. Later in the day we did drop by another coffee shop further down the hill but although that was a reasonable venue it just wasn’t the same!

Dont agree at all with rumdiver this little coffee shop is absolutely top class. Fresh scones, soup, rolls, sandwiches and home baking daily it is a mecca for visitors and locals alike. We visit every week sometimes 3 times a week the quality is consistent and superb. Teresa and her staff have no control over the pile driver in the harbour! Which incidentally was repairing the pier part of which had fallen into the harbour after severe gales. Stranraer is'nt a holiday resort it's a hard wee working town which welcomes friends and strangers alike.

We have visited the area since 1970 and remember when queen Victoria's plinth was in the middle of the road outside the Alexandra. Many changes have been made in the Stranraer area some for the better others not so. Sadly the demise of the Alexandra Coffee shop is one of them, it just isn't what it used to be, it has lost that feel. The noise from the pile driver on the sea front didn't help either. We hope that in due time the coffee shop will return to the quaint shop we used to frequent frequently.

Visited the Frothy this morning for the first & very last time as the cafe is closing. Whilst the cafe was comfortable the coffee wasn’t the best ever tasted and we were stunned at the price! Compared to other coffee houses close by it was surprising; could this be a reason they are not finding it profitable?

This cafe served the worst scone I have ever had / didn't have. (and that's saying something as I'm in my 70s and have had a few in my time. You could build a house with a few of them. Inedible expensive rubbish. It came in a paper bag, no plate and a wooden disposable knife which struggled to cut it. The coffee was served in a paper cup. But was drinkable. Cost over £13 for two coffees and two inedible scones. I am disgusted and will definitely won't be back

Just superb all round - the food [first and foremost] was fantastic! The vibe & atmosphere were spot-on - great music, decor, everything. Will be back for sure - gotta try that Malaysian Curry next! Had the burrito this time, which was awesome! And the Sticky Toffee Carrot Cake… Ummm… Can I have some more, please? Took me far too long to get my bum in the door - won’t be dilly-dallying about for Round 2, I can tell ya that!
