Overpriced. £2.25 for a tiny empire biscuit (and I really mean tiny!!). Biscuit was very hard, the jam was very runny … jam started to go everywhere at the first bite… not great. Sticky hands, jam went on the ground, I was left with the hard biscuits to bite…NOT impressed. Overall an empire biscuit disaster.

Stopped for lunch! Hadn’t been in the village for many years, having moved away quite a number of years ago. We used to go to The Waterside Inn, but appears to have closed! We’d bought our wedding cake from the bakery part of the business so went into the cafe/deli across the street for nostalgia! All I had was a cup of tea and a ham salad roll. It was freshly made to order and exactly as expected! Lovely, friendly staff and couldn’t do enough! My husband and daughter both had a panini and we bought some cakes for later from the bakery, which were just as delicious!!! Fantastic to see a business that’s so much still a part of the community.

Didn’t get as far as lunch. Asked for the server to change her gloves as she’d gelled them following making large bowl of salad then took our order and started preparing it. Still with same gloves. Owner is happy with this practice. Owner then asked me to go with her to bakery shop away from other customers where she told me to get out her shop. That’s actually putting it nicely with regard to what she said! Banned me too!

went for a drive into the country and stopped in the village of Strathaven , seen this bakery and as a bread home baker myself decided to buy a small wholemeal loaf from this establishment who profess to be scotlands oldest bakers . Guys you need a shake down the small loaf i bought was simply terrible , bland and tasteless and cost over £2 for this gunk , made myself 2 slice of toast this morning after a couple of bites i gave it to the dog . he wouldnt eat it . wont be back

Alexander Taylor have 2 x retail outlets on opposite corners of the street, and this review is for the cafe-deli. We came here on a couple of mornings for coffee. The lady in charge (sorry, didn’t get your name) is a lovely, delightful person whose service is fabulous and whose coffee is lovely. It’s a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and we LOVED it.

Having bought the fabulous sourdough in the bakers side, we opted for light lunch in the deli cafe across the road. Friendly, efficient, smartly dressed staff who didn't hassle us in any way when we were the last to leave. We each had a big bowl of soup (Malaysian butternut, delicious) which came with their own wonderful bread & was reasonably priced. To finish, I got the best macchiato coffee that I've had for a long time, with (their own) good moist carrot cake. I'd come back here again very happily - the town is worth exploring too.

Sadly lost back in time and serving poor quality food compared to other artisan cafés in strathaven and further afield. It's the 21st. Century and they serve up the same cakes as they did in the 1990s. Don't mention the decor or the toilets! Embarrassing! Only redeeming quality is the cheery staff and the excellent coffee.

I would recommend Alexander Taylor's for a coffee stop. Equally good for a breakfast stop or lunch. The coffee is lovely and there is a good choice of toasties, sandwiches, homemade soups etc. Really delicious.

I nipped in with my baby one day and I had a roll n bacon with scrambled eggs. Sadly the eggs could only be identified by their dental records. You really could bounce them off a wall. The bacon was lovely. The staff were incredibly helpful. The free wifi isn't good at all. My phone went around in circles trying to connect. I wasn't the only one having problems.

I visited bakers to purchase baguette and loaf of bread. Asked if could be sliced. When offered thin cut asked if could be thick cut was advised this was not adjustable and it was not a good bread to toast as a lot of bread in it. Have never been so insulted in my life. I come from a long family line of bakers.

Taylors is a brilliant place to shop for Artisan Bakery products, but get there early as the bread rolls sell out quickly! A superb tearoom for everything from breakfast to late afternoon tea.

Lovely location for a lunch. Just behind the village green. Fresh baking can be had here. If what you want is not on display staff can get what you want from their main shop just across the road. We had the special of the day - Brie turkey and chilli jam toasties which were delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice music too in background. Free wi-fi too. Will come here again.

This is a very good tea room and café though they will supply decent meals during the day. It has been a bit of a Strathaven institution for a number of years with certain people in the town. I personally find it a bit pricey however the food is very good and the staff are always helpful and polite. There is also a delicatessen within the café which lets you take away some of the produce used in the meals. The café is attached the Taylors bakery across the road again a Strathaven institution, if your looking for artisan breads this this is the place to go, but take a full wallet the bread and cakes are good but expensive.

Have been here before, but last time was a couple of years ago. First thing I noticed, was the huge beaming smiles from the staff. Most welcoming. I ordered Bruschetta with sundried vegetables in olive oil, pesto, olives and mature cheddar roasted on top. It came with a salad garnish, which was very substantial. Mixed leaves, peppers, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, grated carrot and a dressing. When my husband saw what was brought to me, he was miffed that he hadn't ordered it too. It was absolutely delicious, and I cleared my plate. It was SO tasty. My husband had a roll with bacon and scrambled egg, again the plate was cleared. If you're in Strathaven, be sure to try this cafe/deli and the Alexander Taylor bakery across the street. We couldn't find ANYTHING to displease us and will DEFINITELY be back the next time we're in the area.

As per usual the staff were lovely and the Chicken and Rice soup my daughter had for the 1st time today was superb, my daughter compared it to Gran's soup, she's never done that before. High praise indeed. Always friendly and the food is delicious. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Burnside.

Superb. We were a walk-in table of 3 on an already busy night. Greeted and treated very well throughout. Very attentive and genuine staff. The food was very tasty and well presented, the 'fish soup' being the 'food envy' moment. Dessert topped off with sorbet and according to him indoors, 'one of the best tiramas's' he's tasted. Highly recommended - we will be back.
