Aldo's Pizzeria in Kirklees

Horrific avoid avoid avoid worst meal and service was terrible. My meal consisted of a few burnt vegetables stuck on a skewer with no rice or sauce when I asked for rice I was served a bowl full of microwaved gooey yellow and green gunk and eventually the sauce arrived which was the same sauce all 3 meals had on our plates!. Absolutely awful and all thet did was knock off the £15.95 price for my poor vegetables!.My sons pizza was uncooked in areas and burnt in others.Run by kids

My starter wasn't bad but I'm not sure bread and olives can not be achieved in a professional ltalian kitchen!. As for my vegan skewers with saffron rice and spicy tomato sauce absolutely terrible! They arrived with no rice or sauce i had to ask for both and the waitress had to read the menu to know it wasn't correct! The rice was clearly microwaved and had turned to mush and tasted like a hot gooey garlic mess!.. the sauce finally arrived 20mins after I'd had the 2 skewers which consisted of a few slices of pepper 3 mushrooms (burnt) a couple of bits of courgette and aubergine and that was it...and with a price tag of £15.95!. My sons pizza was soggy in the middle the dough wasn't cooked in places and burnt in others.The inside of the restaurant is dire dark and dirty the only good thing was I sat next to a working radiator and the served 0% peroni.Awful Place We will not be returning I wish we had booked either Wok Ever Tappinos Georges Bistro or Casa Luli much nicer establishments nearby!.Disgusting!.

We don’t go out much as a family as it’s so expensive these days (and this was no exception!) and to be honest we wished we’d not bothered. Service was unbelievably slow, and from sitting down to receiving our starters it took an hour (not easy to entertain two small kids for that long). Some of the food was nice, some awful. For example the courgette fritters were absolutely soaked in salt and had zero batter on them, and I can only assume they had run out of Parmesan for the truffle chips… but credit where it’s due, the kids pizza was lovely. The bill was then charged wrong, some items charged twice or wrongly etc… and although the manager said the heating was on, it was absolutely freezing so we kept our coats on for half the meal. Generally just a very poor evening which was a shame, because as I said, this was a rare ‘treat’ for us. We wouldn’t visit again unfortunately.

We love coming here to Aldos. The food is great and they have good gluten free options. They were very accommodating to my dietary requirements and freshly cooked my meal for me.

Last time I visited was on Christmas, and I had amazing food and service. As this restaurant is my family's favorite, whenever we crave some Italian food, we come here. We usually visit 4-5 times a year, and I thought to book the table for tomorrow, but I just got confused after reading recent reviews. Honestly, I love the place; the vibe, food, and all the staff are so sweet that we always felt so happy and received a warm experience. Maybe you guys need to work on leakage, but I will not complain as it's a 30-year-old restaurant. Personally, I have visited lots of restaurants in my life as a traveler and found lots of loopholes, but the only thing that caught my attention about Aldos was the service and, obviously, the food. Next time, I'm surely trying the Indian curry, let me taste the diversity.

After readinga few poor reviews I thought I’d make up my own mind. Oh dear wished I’d stayed at home. On entering the restaurant the strong smell of urine meets you, their website offers a Prosecco bar but they have no Prosecco glasses, we were quickly shown to our table even though we chose to have a drink at the bar thankfully the smell of urine didn’t reach our table, we ordered 2 Indian meals & 1 Italian, meanwhile the restaurant quickly filled up and each table were served their food, eventually we caught the eye of the waiter who said our food was on the way ( 45mins of waiting). The final straw was a lady went upstairs to the toilet & on her return the table next to us asked to move as water was leaking on to their table ( hopefully this was the hand basin water and not toilet water) the staff were as aware that they had a leak but still sat customers under it, we asked to pay for our drinks and cancelled our order, on leaving the chef who looked angry even before we placed our order looked like he was going to chase us down the street. Next time I check the reviews for a new restaurant I will certainly believe them. Give this place a miss !!

I can only describe our evening as horrendous. We had never been to Aldos before, On walking in, first impressions were that is was very run down, second thought was is this an Italian restaurant or an Indian as it smelt of both which was revolting. We were shown to a table which had no tablecloth or placemats. It was cold. Took 10 mins for someone to take a drinks order. As we were waiting for drinks something fell from the ceiling... plaster dust. We laughed it off. We ordered and waited to see what might arrive as the table next to us walked out without eating. Starters were average but with more ceiling falling into our dinner we were not happy at all. We asked to move which they did but then there was some shouting between the kitchen and the waiter as to whose food they should be cooking yet. Fast forward a little while and two fatty rib eye steaks (obviously frozen chips and with no veg) an undercooked pizza and some rather naff looking ravioli arrive. Very little concern was shown when the plates were collected when we told them it was poor. Would not knock money off bill either. Just also to note, toilets were awful, dirty, no hot water in ladies, cobwebs, light not working in cubicle. One positive, very young waitress run off her feet, was great under the circumstances. Needs to be shut down.

Been a few times in the past years and always enjoyed our visit, This time,we walked in the place was filthy, uninviting, zero atmosphere. All we could smell was Indian food, turns out its now an Indian/Italian. The food was poor, must be new owners as it was probably the worst 'Italian' we've eaten. Not the same as it used to be don't come here if you want a nice vibe and tasty Italian food, maybe come to try a curry though?! 2 stars because staff were friendly enough

I came with my family Christmas Eve, although we were not booked all the staff helped us and got us a table even though it was very busy. Cocktails were amazing and food was really good I would recommend. Will be trying the South Indian menu next time which is hard to find in this part of the country. Excellent service

What happened to this place?? Is it Italian or a curry house?? Both menus?!?! Very average food. Really oversalted. And cheap copy Christmas music blaring out.. overal disappointing and such a shame this legendary restaurant seems to have lost its way. The 30 year old decor doesn’t help too

The new owners are very friendly, the service on the most part is ok, it would be nice if they look at the tables and see if anyone is running out of drinks, and trying catch the servers eye can be quite difficult. The Indian food is very very good, almost like home cooked. I have been many times, and always enjoy the food. The atmosphere could be warmer, the place looks a bit dated. But I do love going there for the food.

first time here tonight family of 4 with 2 children. its was absolutely gorgeous!! will definitely be back again!! owner was amazing and so accommodating. really friendly. food was out of this world enjoyed every dish we had. cocktails were great too! the portion sizes are super and the kids sizes are like normal adult sizes so brilliant for the price too. really enjoyed it here will definitely be back. one of the best meals weve had 🥰

The food was okay. Menu had things crossed out and an Indian as well as separate Italian menu. Feels like there not sure what they are anymore. Service was very good. Restaurant felt quite cold and not very inviting like it used to be. Chocolate fudge cake was very nice but the cheesecake had a very cheap tasting sauce drizzled on it.

This was always one of our family favourite restaurants and a "Go-to" venue for us. I am writing this as the last couple of times we have had mixed experiences and maybe a 3.5 would be a fairer score. On our last visit the starters were good with a nice Mozzarella in Carrozza and a good Tagliatelle alla Paesana starter. Our granddaugher enjpoyed her penne all moda and the pasta was ok. However the pizzas were not good with the bottom of my diavola very hard. The ham on the prosciutto just did not look right and we took that off as it looked very old. The ham in the calzone was also not good and this pizza was taken off the bill. All in all it was a disappointing night as generally the food was good and it may have just been a new pizza chef. We just want them to get the standards back to where they were.

We have been to Aldo’s many times but not since Lockdown. And sadly we won’t be returning. Although the manager was very nice, the rest of the experience wasn’t great. The starter mozzarella in Carrozza was poor quality. The mozzarella was tasteless. One of the main meals was swimming in oil (salmon pasta) and over half of it was left. The other mains were fine but nothing special. We didn’t bother with desserts. We did order coffee which felt like it had been forgotten about and when it did eventually arrive the two americano’s were undrinkable. The latte was fine. Most of the waiting staff looked like they didn’t really want to be there. There was one good waitress and the manager appeared to be trying his best. It just isn’t anything close to what it used to be. It felt odd to be eating an Italian meal yet being able to smell curry. It’s trying to be too many things. It should decide whether to be another Indian restaurant or an Italian restaurant and do either one of those really well. The last owner’s shoes are big shoes to fill so perhaps make it an a really good quality Indian instead! Sadly it’s lost its appeal for us. We paid half price as everything on the menu was 50% off and they did take the very oily meal off without us asking which was good (and what I’d expect) but I’d have been very very disappointed if we’d have paid full price because it simply wasn’t worth it. Such a shame.

As usual a wonderful meal at Aldos, I've been coming for meals since I was a child but this time they went above and beyond for my sons 18th birthday meal. They were happy to allow us to bring our own cake and brought it to the table with candles lit and singing. Thank you so much xx

Yesterday I ordered pizza from this place for last time. I ordered 2 pizzas paid 4 pound extra for delivery and pizza arrived cold. Never ever again .

Service very slow, menu has far to many options, needs to reduce as very confusing, and staff not aware of what’s on the menu, all numbered so when asked for the number server ask what it was. Starters over prices for what you get, main was very nice, didn’t get drinks we asked for, so just paid and left, glad we tried, but would not go again. Looks like 2 restaurants merged and felt very confused, staff cleared the table before we all finished, more training needed.

Booked a table on Wednesday for Saturday night, showed up for our booked and the place was closed. It had a sign in the door saying “closed for emergency” We left a phone number when booking so it would have been good for them to cal us before hand. Wasn’t just us either, a few other people showed up for their booking also to the message on the door. Trying to find an alternate on a Saturday night for 8 people for a special birthday would have been easier if we had been pre warned. Terrible customer service, we won’t be returning

11 of us were at Aldo’s for a retirement ‘do’ on Friday, the atmosphere was lovely and food was amazing! The lady ‘retiree’ was made to feel very special and the mixture of Italian and Indian food was second to none. You could not fault the portion size, choice and taste and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had not been to Aldo’s for maybe 15 years but I will definitely return with my family as well as friends again in the future.

Very disappointed on my last visit, didn't know this Italian had started to serve curries. Completely lost it's authentic Italian atmosphere with the loud pop music and smell of curry whilst eating an Italian. Sorry, after 30 years I won't be back.

Restaurant was empty and although there is a large bar it was closed and had to purchase small bottles at £5 each bit of a rip off ,great shame because the food was great.

5 stars all round! Thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back x

Just had a meal with my wife and daughter here this evening. Absolutely recommend this restaurant to everyone. Italian and Asian cuisine sounds like it just would not work, but I can assure you that it certainly does. Food for all tastes, excellent food too, whether it be Italian or Asian. Great service, great value too. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

We went to Aldo’s a few years ago and it was average I can’t believe it’s taken us so long to come back and now will be a regular for our family ! We read poor reviews about service and attitude on sites such as tripadvisor, which prevented us from returning. Tonight we thought, let see what it’s like. Wow. It’s under new ownership and the difference is unbelievable. Italian along side South Indian food, which would give a local Mitchell Indian star restaurant a run for its money. We fancied Lasagna before going in, but the aroma of spices on entering the restaurant guided us to the alternative menu. Visited with six of my family and everything was brilliant lovely food and service will definitely go again

Visited here for family birthdays intending to eat Italian food. I had forgotten that they also serve Indian food. Hard to choose as I love both! In the end 3 of our party had indian the other 3 Italian. Both menus extensive with lots of dishes I hadn't come across before. Every one of us had starter and main and every dish absolutely faultless. Served piping hot and nicely presented. You can also see onto the Italian kitchen which is always a good sign. The service was excellent. Extensive wine list although only wanted one glass on work night. Will absolutely visit here again to try indian. My husband said his curry was the best he's had in a long time.

Aldo’s has a reputation for being an Italian restaurant so kind of threw us a bit when we were presented with an Indian menu too. Half of us ordered Indian and half stuck with the Italian. Service was a little slow and meant after waiting for someone to take a drinks order we decided it would be quicker to just go to the bar instead. Slight wait for food but there was a large party in as well and I’m assuming timing of the different dishes being prepared in different kitchen areas may have also caused this. The owner was keen to check we’d enjoyed ourselves and keen for us to leave a review. The interior needs freshening up it’s a bit dark, tired and grubby looking. The food was good but I’d decide what you want to specialize in going forward and choose Italian or Indian it would avoid the confusion as the website promotes Italian so can understand why customers are confused. Personally do one or the other and do it really well

Went for a spur of the moment Italian. Ended up having a super Indian meal. The highlight being the best Masala Dosa we have ever had. Aldo’s has changed radically.

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement…Went to Aldo’s for the first time in years, I was really looking forward as it had always been amazing…. The place was pretty empty and now we know why! Firstly it’s not very clean anymore. My starter, king prawns were so rubbery I couldn’t cut in to them, so didn’t eat & sent it back (was removed from the bill) then my main lasagna was just mushy cheese & pasta, so mushy it was almost a cheese soup… I asked if this was normal the manager said ‘yes this is how lasagna is’ and walked away… didn’t eat that either…. My partner got the lobster ravioli….he couldn’t eat that either…. We left disappointed and hungry… we won’t be going back …. You can tell it’s changed hands.

We came here on Friday, the 28th of April 2023. I must say after seeing the reviews here on Google. I was very worried about going to the restaurant due to the really bad ratings in previous reviews. However, when I went to this restaurant, I was so so pleased with everything from start to finish. The staff were so lovely, kind and very very helpful indeed The ladies that were serving our food should be so very very proud of themselves with their excellent customer service. The food here is first class I could not have asked for a better meal at all, I got the deep fried mozzarella with tomato sauce and the meat feast pizza and I must say it was beautiful. The portions here are plentiful And I am sure that anybody that comes to this restaurant will not be disappointed now as things must have definitely changed in the last three months because it is definitely not what it used to be from what I’ve seen in these reviews before mine. The one big problem there is is that there is no wheelchair access because if you go into the Italian half of the restaurant You have to go up to steps and I think the same would be said for the other half of the restaurant that serves the curries etc. The restaurant does have two separate kitchens, one for the Italian food and one for The Continental food so there is no way of any cross contamination which is fabulous. The chefs that prepare and cook the food should be so very proud of themselves because they do this restaurant absolute justice. I really cannot wait to come back here again. Well done everybody for an amazing place to eat and thank you for excellent customer service from start to finish.

Nowhere else I know where you can have TWO incredible cuisines available in the same restaurant... utterly amazed to see some people saying this as a negative! If you're a couple and one loves Italian and the other loved curry... this place is just heaven! I'm a curry guru and I can clearly state that I haven't had better than at Chakkra.... the railway mutton is exquisite and the presentation of the dishes is equally as good as the food. Top notch place and highly, highly recommend... I'm just amazed they don't advertise this USP more to be honest. Awesome

Called in on-spec but whilst busy they still found us seats (party of four). I had the Indian option whilst everyone else went for Italian - this made service slow as they tried to bring both food options out together - maybe something for them to look at. In terms of the food, both offerings were very tasty, my Indian well presented. Would go there for food again.

Well very glad we visited this gem last Saturday. Was indeed a busy evening and even though we haven't reserved ,gladly been shown us a table. Me and my partner were undecided as to what meal to go for when we left our house and ended up in Aldos and was so excited to see a South Indian Menu as well on our table. A massive menu indeeMy partner tried a small starter portion of tortellini primavera and that was one of the best he ever had followed with a ribeye steak cooked medium to rare in their beautiful peppercorn sauce. I chose Fish pollichathu from the Indian menu,which came up in a wrapped banana leaf , that was something i have witnessed for the first time and glad i did. Will surely returrn. Not to forget the service ,well taken care with a nice smile.

Aldo’s well to say it has changed is a understatement, first time we have been in many years when it was a lovely Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere and quality food . Walked in last night April the 8th the place smelt like a Indian restaurant got a drink and was sat down food was average at best menus were dirty the whole restaurant looked like it needed a good clean toilets were dirty and the whole experience which we used to get years ago was gone such a shame and we will definitely not be going back again .

I've eaten at Chakkra twice and will definitely visit again. If you want the usual - you can find it here, but better still - if you want unusual, authentic Indian food served with a smile, this is THE place.

Visited for the first time on a busy Saturday and had a lovely evening . The best part was two different menu on offer, Italian and a South Indian . Both were amazing accompanied with a friendly service .Would not recommend a weekend as they are a damn busy place.

Whilst the food was pretty good we had uninvited guests by way of ants. Not wanting to make a big fuss quietly mentioned to a member of staff. No apologies or offer to move tables. We decided to move to bar area, no one came to see if we wanted anything else and after a while asked for bill. This arrived and were overcharged for drinks we didn't have. Making a joke about the ants drinking it, the owner became very defensive. Again no apologies other than to remove the over charged drink and also deducting a lime and soda. Sadly won't be visiting again

A really dreadful experience. Had to wait 45 mins for a booked table, then had to wait an age for someone to take the order. Walking to the table, you walk past the open kitchen with a really bad smell of BO…..should have known what to expect from the menu! So many really bad spelling mistakes it’s unreal. And, just in case you don’t fancy Italian (in an Italian restaurant!?!?), there’s a curry menu!?!? Had a starter of Bruschetta bread which had one with chicken pate and some smoke fish (no idea what it was but probably not salmon), then had to wait ages for the mains. People were walking out because they just weren’t getting served. A delivery guy walked into the kitchen straight from outside, a big no no…..the worst thing we’ve ever seen anywhere was the cook mopping the top of the pizza oven ….which was being used to keep plates warm….yeah..a floor mop… around plates….Give it a wide berth!! An awful experience….wouldn’t want these guys running a bath, let alone a restaurant…shame, used to be a great place….

Restaurant was so cold that many people sat with coats on. Complained to the owner/ manager and he moved a plug in heat nearer to us which had little effect. No regard for health and safety as it was plugged in and balanced on top...

Absolutely awful. Food arrived late and when it did arrive one of the pizzas had no base and was juat dough. They were too busy making takeaways then dealing with the customers in the restaurant; choose one or the other.

3 of us ate here tonight. Food same high quality. Staff courteous even though they were very busy. Only downside to the evening was the temperature in the room. We we sat at the far end and it was freezing.

Oh dear such a shame. The 2 girls serving really tried hard and we're good, the food was decent but the place just looked so run down and lacking its old atmosphere, also the Curry mixed with the Italian just doesn't work and will put people off. I hope it can be fixed

Very good customer service from all staff. Good was delicious and very large portion sizes! (Over sized couldn’t finish my main or starter) would definitely return and recommend to friends and family!!

Delicious home cooked cuisine. A spaghetti bolognese to die for. Very helpful staff, and a very enjoyable experience.
