Don’t let any negative reviews sway or influence your decision to go to or use Alan’s restaurant and takeaway. The food is excellent. If you have lived in average market towns in central England over the last 25 year or so years and tried to find a good Chinese takeaway you will know exactly what I am talking about. We ordered a range of dishes and they were fresh, light, well cooked, with lovely flavours. You would have to go a long way to find better.

Lovely food, very reasonably priced, they prefer cash for takeaway orders but do accept cards.

Sweet and sour sauce very sweet and found them very expensive.

Staff here is very friendly and takeaway orders are prepared swiftly. We ordered a range of items and they were delicious. Sometimes maybe a bit greasy but that's not unexpected with fried food (e.g. pancake rolls). Good value for money.

Omg I love Alan’s Cantonese. I wake up daily thinking about Alan’s and it’s the last thing on my mind before I go to sleep. Fantastic food EVERY time and on time EVERY time. Get that baby to bed and let’s get an Alan’s! Never have I ever had an item missing or food that was less than 10/10 perfection. I love you Alan 🩷

Awful singapore chow mein ! CANT BELIEVE A CHINESE DOES NOT OFFER NORMAL THICK NOODLES !!! ALL CHOW MEIN NOODLES ARE VERMECHELLI RICE NOODLES ! 🍜 every other chinese i been to they offer vermechelli rice noodles as a singapore but allso list thick noodles. 2/10 im afraid to say so steer well clear of this place.

Ordered a take away at 6.30pm via just eat. Delivery confirmed for 7.20-7.40pm. Order arrived at 8.30pm 8.30pm despite calling the place twice and both time I got told yeah sorry 15 minutes mate it’s been really busy. Joke! Asked for some money back via the just eat app, which was refused by the take away as “they were busier than expected” i will never use Just eat or this restaurant again!

Had a take away. Absolutely the worst ever in 50 years nothing fresh. The salt and pepper chips over fried rock hard with what tasted like they cooked in old oil.chicken egg fried rice tasted and looked like been re heated and so on for all our other dishes and the spring rolls not got enough space to write about how bad they was. Really not a good experience.

I agree with previous review... Sabotage!! Absolutely gorgeous. Piping hot couldnt fault any of the 7 dishes but king prawn in ginger and spring onions were the best. We are staying in a relatives caravan and had the food delivered... We will use again Thanks

Delivery 1hr 20mins late. 2nd week on the trot it’s been delayed - they did not notify us either. Driver said it’s because they were serving all the walk ins before doing their delivery orders. We will not be going there again.

We ordered our food to be delivered at 1830, we had to chase the order 3 times. It eventually arrived closer to 2000. Our guests didn’t have time to eat their meal and most of it went in the bin. It seems that they prioritise orders at the counter,

Tried this take away for the first time, food was great!! It is officially are go too now as we found much better than other takeaways. Portions are huge, the salt and pepper wings were great and not over loaded in hard batter and the salt and pepper chicken was cooked perfect!! Had the mixed platter and it was great and the price is spot on too. The delivery time was good too! Would recommend this take away and we will definitely be using for all our future chinese food night ins when we are here!

We’re in holiday at a local caravan park, they delivered and the food was absolutely beautiful! Service was fantastic as well the lady phoned when she was just 5 minutes away. Will definitely order again

Delivered to us as guests on a local holiday park. Great service and kept up to date on order. Food was hot, delicious and thoroughly enjoyed.

There are two Chinese take aways right next to each other. I want into Alan's. This is obviously a family run restaurant as there kids were there and the lady at the till had a baby strapped to her chest. The don't like taking card payments and ask if you would mind using the cash machine outside. The food did not take too long and the quality was very good and I am fussy with my Chinese food. Nice thick sauces and tender meat. Well recommended 👌

Rang up to ask a question and was spoken about to other staff as if we wasn't on the phone. Won't be using this place again

Food OK ish , didn't like being asked to walk up street to get cash out of cash machine , reason told card machine doesn't always work. After telling them ok forget about order , miraculously machine worked then . If I'm being asked to pay by cash only , I expect the V?T discount to be passed onto myself . this place not for me again

Recently moved back to the area and Alan's is easily one of the the best takeaways in Paignton. Absolutely adore their chicken in blackbean sauce.

one star cos i could not give less....not being from the area holidaying in paignton i thought a place like this would look after the hungry visitors to this shop...we ordered a takeaway chicken curry fried rice and chips which when sat down in the caravan it was disgusting and was left and thrown away..ended up having cheese on toast....we will never go there again when down beautiful Paignton....we will not complain just give reviews..shops like this should aim for repeat customers ...bad for the area...

Absolutely fabulous meal. Staying in Brixham and was concerned about the chinese takeaways in the town as reviews were not the best. Founf Alans in Godrington that delivered to us which was over 10 minutes away. We had a meal for 2 to feed 2 adults and a child. Big portions that gave us a meal for 1 of us the next day. Meat quality was excellent and large King Prawns. I am always sceptical eating Chinese away from your regular local takeaway at home. I have to admit, this was as good as at home. One I would definitely recommend to anyone that stays local. Would order from here again without a shadow of a doubt

requested for a takeaway to be delivered to us while on holiday at a local holiday site tonight. The food was ok, however on further inspection our satay chicken was missing and instead we had been given prawn toast.. neither of us like fish so we called up and explained this was not what we ordered.. The lady on the phone told us we had not ordered satay chicken (which we had) after a bit of back and forth she agreed to have satay chicken cooked for us and delivered.. but told us we had to pay the £1 difference and return the prawn toast! seeing that this was their mistake i did think this was a bit of a joke! the driver asked me for a £1 coin, i didn’t have one.. assuming they would charge my card for this... i explained id call up and pay this singular pound! so we made the exchange of prawn toast for satay chicken! My girlfriend called up and was told she had to pay £2 due to their minimum orders!! the cheek! I would like to add that both of our delivery drivers were absolutely brilliant, polite and efficient, however the lady on the phone came across as rude and cheeky.

I moved to the area in march. Firstly I tried the other takeaway a few doors down, yes it was ok, not brilliant, but still ok. I kept reading such poor reviews about Alans, but regardless I decided to try it out for myself. On the first occasion , absolutely amazing. i wanted to write a review then, but thought I would give it a few more times, I was not disappointed. Its probably been 10 occasions now of outstanding food. I have to say the quality is consistent and outstanding. Portion sizes very generous. Delivery times have always been when expected. I seriously think that the bad reviews might be a case of sour grapes by the competitors. Alans your food is better than some top restaurants I have been to, keep up the good work, and thank you for your brilliant food.

Arrived an hour late, with items missing. The chicken chop suey did have a lot of chicken, but the sauce had an unpleasantly strong garlic flavour that made it inedible. Almost £40 for a meal for 2 ordered via Just Eat, and they haven’t even had the decency to refund the omitted items. Will stick with Jade Palace in future.

We ordered a take out at 6pm for delivery after 3 phone call eventually arrived at 9pm only for the chicken in all the meals to be raw. Phoned them and told couldn’t have refund as paid driver cash but if I went into the shop tomorrow he would give me a 10% discount. Or would could another meal tonight but would be another hour or so.

Ordered 1740 got food at 2000 rang 4 times told it was being cooked said delivery would be 45 mins to an hour …2 and a half hours later food cold driver blamed flooded road kids starving and moaning and we spend £50 never Oder from here no offer of prawn crackers or partial refund and a Sunday ????terrible service never again

Ordered food at 19:27 was told would be 1 hour. Called 1 hour and 10 mins later too be told our food hadn’t even been cooked yet. It’s 20:58 and still no sign. Would not use again

Ordered mushroom fried rice(vegetarian) and when it arrived there was chicken in it. Called up to let them know and the extremely rude chef was adamant that it would not be chicken. 3 members of my family ate it, and there was definitely chicken in it, we all know what chicken looks and tastes like. They enjoyed it, but it was for me, and I don't eat chicken, so I went hungry Been using Alan's for years, but since Alan left and it was taken over it has really gone down hill. Delivery times are horrendous, often turning up Luke warm hours after ordering. They also score 0 on recent health and safety visit. Will not be using Alan's again, and recommend that you don't either. Serving meat in vegetarian dishes is really the last straw. Add to that the rude chef, long waits, Luke warm food and 0 health and safety score. Enough said.

The vegetarian mushroom fried rice had small pieces of chicken in it. We phoned to let them know and the chef was adamant it wouldn't be chicken. It was definitely chicken, three members of my family shared it and all had chicken in it. We all know what chicken looks and tastes like. They all enjoyed it and said it was delicious, but it wasn't for them, it was mine, and I don't eat chicken. Looking at other reviews this isn't the first time people have found chicken in their vegetarian dishes. We've used Alan's for many years, it was brilliant when Alan was running it, but since it was taken over it has really gone down hill. Deliveries are running super late, and customer service is non existent. Also scoring 0 on health and safety. We won't be using Alan's again and recommend that you don't either.

I live in Surrey. I haven't been back here for a year but rave about this place to anyone I know who comes down here. It is the only place I have found that does Crispy Sweet & Sour Chicken and it is my favourite thing even if the Doctor says I shouldn't. My favourite Chinese meal in the country, and I do 3000 miles a week.

The food was delicious and delivered piping hot, I didn't have any Soy Sauce at home so I called them and asked if they sold bottles of it, unfortunately they didn't but when I opened the food bag they had kindly put a container in the bag with plenty of Soy Sauce in it at no extra charge, I was extremely happy that they had done that and I called them and thanked them for doing that for me. It is the extra touches and kindness towards their customers that make us order our Chinese from them always.

I normally prefer Thai however Alan's Cantonese has never disappointed me whereas a Thai meal I had delivered recently from another highly recommend local Thai restaurant did. Alan's Cantonese has nice vegetables with the dishes and it always has good flavour and the dishes I've ordered so far has had nice colours to it. Staff are also very nice and pleasant and service has been great for collection and delivery.

Probably the worst takeaway we have ever had. Awful thin noodles stodgy sauce processed rubber chicken. If you are Down here on holiday save your money. You'd get a better frozen meal from tesco,

We telephoned for a takeaway on Saturday night and we’re told it would be 1-1.5 hour for delivery. As it was only 6.10 we didn’t see that as a problem. After several phone calls when we were lied to about how long it would be, the food finally arrived after 3 hours. It was completely average and not very hot. We will never use this takeaway again.

Staying in hobourn holiday park, ordering and delivery very easy with the driver willing to be direct by phone. Great food especially the salt and pepper chicken, when mixed with the garlic and red chilli in the container gives you a heat blast which is exceptional. We’re here for another 5 days so will undoubtedly be ordering again

Nice food. One of the best Chinese I ever had.

Just had a takeaway from Alan’s Cantonese and it was very disappointing! The chips were reheated and the half duck was so dry and hardly any actual duck meat in the container! The chicken balls were the only thing that were cooked well and tasted ok. Won’t be using them again .

OK Chinese takeaway and service was good. Only takes cash payment which is bizarre and unacceptable in this day and age.

Our family has been loyal customers to Alan's for 6 years+, without fail they have been amazing, right up till tonight. We have waited over 2 hours for a delivery, with no compensation or offer of compensation. Our food is out there and they do not know where it is, and can offer no detail on how much longer we have to wait. Bitterly dissapointed, and will not be giving money here any more.

OK Chinese takeaway. Quick service even though it was quite busy. Only takes cash payment in this day and age and during the latter end of the Covid pandemic which is unacceptable-need to get their act sorted.

Do not expect to have chicken in a meal listed as vegetarian! Ordered 2 veggie Singapore chow mein which both came with rice noodles instead of egg noodles which we were expecting, but was tasty until we found small pieces of chicken! Disappointing

We ordered meals for 7 people, to be delivered.. we were told there would be a 45 minute wait, which is fine!! Then 1 hour 20mins later, we got a txt to say, would be with us in 20 mins, so we waited............ 45 minutes later, still no food, we rang, 'with you in 20 minutes', that turned into 30 minutes, when the food turned up it was luke warm, and to top it off one of the main dishes was missing. Over all a very disappointing experience for me, and a waste of money.. we will not use the place again!! 😡😡

I’ve used serval takeaways in the area for several years, for some reason never used Alan’s before until tonight, will certainly be going back. Must say the staff were very polite, the food excellent and well presented.

Absolutely shocking customer service. Placed an online order, was told 60 minutes, no problem. At 55 minutes was told food was being cooked. At 1 hour 45 minutes was told that food was on its way. At 2 hours was given some ridiculous story of them having a new driver. At 2 hours 15 minutes was told he'd be another 5 minutes and when I asked for a refund was told I could have 10% off my next order. They must have been having an absolute laugh! I've never been so displeased with a restaurant as I am them. There was minimal apology. I was then told that I would have to call a random number for my refund....and when I did they weren't even open! So I have to waste more of my time tomorrow calling at 9am. I also said that as the food was supposedly 5 minutes away (yeah right) if they wanted to still deliver the food out of good will then they could, the response was....no we won't be doing that. So they'd rather turn around and waste food than give to customers that had been waiting 2 hours and 15 minutes!! Order with caution. You may or may not receive you food. Purely giving one star as I have to.

Ordered food by someone who was inexperienced on the phone, waited and waited, I called shop and was told my food had been out for 29mins on delivery eventually driver called me telling me my house number didn't exist, but he had the wrong road completely, he was rude and unapologetic DON'T USE ALAN'S

Been here a couple times and recieved pathetic portions of chicken. The only item they provided that actually came in a normal sized portion was the rice but we paid £6.90 for salt and pepper chicken got two portions (£13.80) and had a tiny portion...

Disgusting! Do not use! Food didn’t arrive at time ordered for, the excuse was that the tel number they had wasn’t correct. If they’d delivered on time they wouldn’t have needed the number anyway! I was told the food would be cooked fresh and then delivered. When it arrived, items were missing and most the food was completely inedible as clearly it hadn’t been cooked fresh. When I called again they admitted they hadn’t cooked it fresh and offered us some prawn crackers!!!! £40+ wasted and they couldn’t care less.

Excellent! Ordered food at 8:25, told to collect in 20 minutes, food was ready to go. Ordered special fried rice, chicken curry and lemon chicken. All of it was really tasty, excellent quality and really good value. We cleaned our plates!!

I have been a long distance truck driver for over 36 years traveling all over the UK and Europe and I have had takeaways from all types of cuisine and I can say Alan's Cantonese is up there with best of them, I was on holiday near Brixham for 7 nights and 5 of them we had Alan's takeaway we orded from just eat and every time the food was piping hot and delicious and on time that they allocated us, I do recommend this takeaway
