Takeaway night. Not tried akhtars for ages but our food was excellent. Piping hot plenty of it and high quality. Would strongly recommend and will be ordering again soon.

Took my father my 80yr old father out for his first Indian restaurant dinner and this place did not disappoint. It was also our first time in this restaurant. Ryan our waiter was spot on, he put my father at ease with a little bit of banter and without being disrespectful. He helped my father choose an appropriate meal and we had what we thought we would enjoy. The food was amazing and plentiful and my father thoroughly enjoyed his meal. We don't live local so to find a great restaurant close to where my father lives is great. Without a doubt we will all definately be back.

Consistently top quality food. The fish pakoras are fresh, huge and succulent. The curries are so delicious and perfectly spiced. The tarka dall and saag paneer sides are the best we’ve ever had. I’m convinced this is currently thw best Indian in sheffield and the surrounding areas. Also a massive praise to the staff they are extremely friendly, well mannered and welcoming. Highly recommended

Ordered a Takeaway for collection. Told it would take 80 minutes, went to collect and had to wait a further 20 minutes. Food was very poor/average, we had 2 chicken Dopiaza and they both had a full quarter onion in them plus loads of massive slices of onion, only 6 small pieces of chicken. The onion bahji was dried and burnt, hardly edible.

We were staying on local campsite and phoned through our order for 2 ( very reasonable £20) and they delivered to our site gate for £1 .Food was very tasty and more than enough.Just wished we lived local so we could come back.

Curry was o.k, no complaints, but staff are arrogant and offensive. Made my 70 year old dad walk the streets looking for a cash machine because the card machine wasn't working. Never mentioned this before we ordered. Probably a tax scam. When we questioned it...

Well the bhajis are superb - no doubt and the main courses were nearly as good . Special tandoori , wings , lamb chops ,naan and rice hit the spot . Next time we are coming for a sit down job .

Food, Service was Excellent. Nothing too much trouble. The good thing which we had not realised is you can take your own drink even though they sell their own. No corkage charge either.

Having visited this restaurant countless times over the years, I am always highly delighted with the great service and excellent food, this evening we went along with a group of over twenty friends and everything was just as good as we've come to expect.I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Lived in Killamarsh for many years but never visited this restaurant until last night. What a lovely night my family had. The food was delicious and the service excellent. One of the best things is you can take your own wine so you are not charged the usual exorbitant mark up prices that restaurants have! I would recommend this place and will certainly be returning.

Visited Akhtars for another great meal last night. Food was excellent and service was efficient and friendly. Whilst deciding what to eat I noted the opening times on the menu and saw one of the reviews below. The restaurant does close at 11pm with last orders 30mins before. We visited the restaurant as a large family group of 16. The food was great quality and fantastic value for money. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and great with the kids! An added bonus of being able to bring your own drinks.will definitely be visiting again

Last night was our first visit & we were not dissapointed!!! The staff were friendly & attentive with out being intrusive .The food was excellent good quality ingredients used. The size of the portions are generous all in all a very good first visit.We will be Back

We've been to the restaurant and had a few take a way's several times and always given it a solid 5 .Well deserved .However I have always loved your Bhajis but this was nasty for sure it nearly took my teeth out it was that hard inside and out . As a chef I think it had been refried from the day before .The rest of the meal was excellent but I was so looking forward to my Bhajis .

This place has won awards!the food is fantastic and highly tasty, the service is the usual prompt and speed Indian style, but the atmosphere is friendly and jolly.The will guide and advise you on their menu if you need and again, it really is wonderful food.You need to bring your own alchohol as they don't have a license at the time of writing, but that wasn't really a problem for us. The Co-Op is only a minute away. We'll definitely bne back again to sample further delights!

We attended akhtars tonight for a get together because my friend is getting married I had checked out this place and there was some great reviews don’t get me wrong the food was lovely but the service was dreadful it was not very busy as it was only Monday but that’s no excuse we had our food practically thrown at us we had pomperdoms for starters and we asked for a bigger plate as the plate we had was not big enough and he said you have a plate that’s all you are getting we had coffees and one off the cups had a big crack in it won’t go back in a hurry

Just had the best takeaway from here. We've ordered a few times now and it never fails to impress, always reaches us piping hot even though we are few miles away. Takes an hour but well worth the wait as you know it's cooked fresh. Well done Akhtars keep up the good work.

i wasn't able to rate this restaurant as zero as there was no option and my time was spent waiting instead of eating as we waiting for 2 hours for our food which is unacceptable! food was below average ,the service was poor and we were charged for tap water. Bad service, bad food and over charged.i'm making sure to never step in that restaurant ever again! make sure aktar's cannot delete this message!

We have been here several times and never been disappointed, the very friendly and attentive staff will advise on meals. Most of all the food is excellent and it won’t break the bank, special half price deals on Sunday and buffet night on Tuesday. Well worth a visit.

Wow I had to write a review after the recent visit, people who know what a good meal is will appreciate AKHTARS FOOD, from walking in side the restaurant the whole experience to leaving time is absolutely perfect,the restaurant has a great atmosphere and you can see how hard they all try to please everyone, I observed the rest of diners and everyone seemed very happy with the food and service from the staff, may I take the opportunity to refer to some of the reviews with no intention of conflict but when you see someone with just 2 reviews leaving a bad review about this fine restaurant and the other review about the other restaurant where they say is the best, I find it very very difficult to believe it’s authenticity . Please people before you judge anything in life try it you’re self. Thank you Akhtars for serving the community of Sheffield for over a decade.

We have been coming to and ordering from this restaurant for some time now and there isn’t space enough on this page to list all our good experiences here!The restaurant is always very clean and the reception is always friendly and welcoming. The staff go out of their way to make you feel like a valued customer and make the effort to remember things like your name and what kind of dishes you like etc.Nothing is ever too much trouble and we are always seated quickly even if we haven’t remembered to book. If it’s a takeaway we order it is usually just as quick.The food is second to none and the portions are generous sized. The onion bhajis are the best you will ever taste and the salad is always fresh. My husband likes the hotter curries and loves their Chicken Jalfrezi where as I like a more medium one such as a Rogan Josh and they cook them just how we like them. We prefer the more traditional and authentic Apna Style ones and their Garlic Chicken is also very high on our list. The buffet night is a great night for trying different curries and finding something new you might enjoy so we recommend that for sure! It’s a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere and that’s made even more so by the staff. It’s delicious food at excellent prices and I am sure we will be visiting regularly for many years to come.

Been going here for quite a while but it was a first for the buffet night (Tuesdays).You can order from the menu if preferred but we chose the buffet which starts at 6pm. Got there a little before and the place was starting to fill up.Choice of starters, onion bhaji, chicken tikka, etc with salad and mint sauce.There was naan bread and pilau rice, with a balti, tikka, bhuna, korma and another dish which I forget for mains,Could go back if wanted more. Good value for £11.50 per head.Very nice meal, will be calling in again on buffet nights,Courteous staff.

Onion Bhaji was nice - but cold.Chicken Balti - was the same as Chicken Handi - very very poor side orders were very poorNan bread was really niceBooked in advance to be told we needed to vacate our table by a certain time - not a nice greeting - but the waiter did accommodate us - basically not a nice experience.Very cold in the place as well.Try Cutlers Spice - that the best by far - never changes and we have been going since it opened - don't wait your money.

Been to Akhtars on numerous occasions and it always delivers. Efficient and friendly staff, lovey food and you can take your own drinks, except soft drinks, with no corkage fee.Wasn’t as busy as I’ve seen before, maybe lots of people on diets for New Years resolutions! I’d definitely recommend Akhtars.

Go to Akhtars every fortnight with my wife...especially Tuesday night's which is Buffet Night...The place is by far the best I've ever eaten in...and the staff are first class..cannot wait for my next visit..bring it on💙

I've been bringing my business colleagues from India, China, Ireland and Germany....to this amazing restaurant.....my Indian business partners are shocked at the authenticity of this restaurant compared to many in the UK......Service with a smile .....happy to accommodate certain meals my Indian partners request and I must add they reciprocate these requests very well and get admiral comments from my friends.If you like spicy food the chicken Zal is an absolute must and the murgh sizzler as a starter is a must. Value for money and I travel 12 miles to come here as it is the BEST.

We have been going to this restaurant for several years and haven't been disappointed. I've never written a review for this restaurant but it's about time I reciprocated and said a big 'Thank You' for the delicious food, very well presented, and for the excellent service of the staff. Four of us dined there recently, two of us enquiring if we could order a variation of their menu - this wasn't any problem, and we were served with the exact order as requested. The Chef and his team determined to please. It was the first time our two friends had been to this restaurant, both of them commenting on the fine food, one of them stating that the biryani was the best they'd ever had!

We went to buffet night and we’re not disappointed! We have regular take always but decided to try the buffet for a change. I loved the starters and made a meal of them! Absolutely perfect! Mains were good too and service was second to none.

Phoned an order at 5.30pm for delivery was told would be 1 hour , 6.45 phoned them to ask where the order was was told would be with us shortly, arrived 10 mins later , VERY DISAPPOINTED, all cold, chips were all dried up food had to all be reheated in the microwave , what a waste of £25

We visit the restaurant regularly, always really good food and if you fancy something not on the menu they will cook it for you. Staff are always friendly and go above and beyond expectations

I reviewed Akhtars a few months ago saying how good it was, What can I say, this visit was even better. The staff are brilliant, very attentive without being pushy, nothing is too much trouble for them. The food was yet again very very good. Very fresh poppadoms with a good pickle tray. I mentioned how good the bhajis were last time and yet again they are just how ai like them. The mains were spicey but not too hot as to spoil tne flavour of the meat. Superb.

Amazing nite at Akhtars.... service great and food was amazing as always .. although licensed you are able to take yr own drink .... foods delicious and staff always helpful n will help you with yr choice of meal ... I have eaten many times in Akhtars an never been disappointed... my fave has to be king prawn Ceylon or Merg Bemsil ... would definitely recommend

After a couple of years boycotting this restaurant due to exceptionally poor customer service we have tonight gone back to see if the restaurant has changed. I can now write a positive review, we have experienced exceptionally good customer service,amazing food and a relaxing atmosphere. Big thank you team Aktars... we will be back again soon.

Seven of us went here on Friday evening. Restaurant is clean and smart with good air conditioning. Most tables full. All staff we came into contact with were extremely polite and knowledgeable about the menu. Each one of us enjoyed everything we ordered and all dishes were very tasty. Although they have a bar you are able to bring your own alcohol.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a work colleague and it is now my favourite curry house. Friendly staff, a nice atmosphere and the food is wonderful. There is a good choice of dishes on the menu and the portions are generous. If you haven't been here then at least give it a go because you won't be disappointed.

we have been using this indian restaurant from when it first opened and I can honestly say it never fails in quality and service.the food is excellent,good portions and reasonable prices.sundays half price night is incredible value and a great atmosphere.the staff are very smart and very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.we went in a few nights ago on a very warm evening and the restaurant was perfect with very good air conditioning and perfectly chilled beer.give this little gem a try,you will not be disappointed.

Been to this restaurant several times over the last 2years and always had great food, but we left tonight disappointed. Food cold or just warm and not as flavour full as before. Maybe the chef has changed but not the same.

Visited here many times over the last three years and have never been disappointed until tonight. Tonight, the food was warm or cold and not up to the usual great standard, None of our party ate all our food and about a third was left which is totally out of character for us. Noticed a lot of the staff had changed and one member who we had not seen before seemed to be in such a rush and didn't seem to care. The rest of the staff were polite and nice. Afraid, after tonights meal we will be looking for another restaurant for when our friends visit. Shame as this place was a little hidden gem but now is very very average in food taste. The naan bread was cold from delivery to our table. The atmosphere is not the same too. Big shame.

A hidden gem the AKHTARS Indian restaurant in killamarsh the place is clean and I mean clean I inspected the restaurant from the moment I walked in spotless the toilet was very clean and maintained exceptionally very Pleasant I must say the menu is vast lots of choices the food is amazing delicious one needs to try it to believe it the waiting staff are very presentable and professional and well mannered and hygienic you can see the hand sanitiser at ever point it is reassuring a large window looks in to the kitchen wow again the chefs at the akhtars cooking for the dinners in a very good clean kitchen the whole experience was a pleasure definitely one of the best restaurant in Sheffield

We like a good Indian restaurant and this is up there with the best, we had Akhtars recommended to us by a friend, I think he had been keeping it a secret from us. From the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel like regulars and friends. We ordered 3 popadoms 4 came but we were only charged for 3, and the oblgatory pickle tray , a very good pickle tray I might add. My wife did not want a starter, so I ordered the onion bhaji, the waiter must have known that we were going to share it, as it came to the table on 2 plates, a nice touch. My wife likes fish, and was deciding which meal to have, the manager was straight over offering advice on how to have it. I had the chefs special. Both meals were beautifully cooked and very well spiced. We had a lovely evening in a very very good restaurant. Try it you will love it

We popped in on the spur of the moment and they were able to get us in (I was a bit surpised that it might have been a problem as it was all most empty at 530 on a Sunday afternoon ) but it soon filled up to capacity. The food was very good from the popadoms to starters and mains. On paying our bill we were pleased to find a great reduction in the price and were told that it was half price main meals all day Sunday and every Sunday. Will definitely be popping in again. Lovely friendly staff too.

Almost hidden from view on an unassuming row of shops, this restaurant was a real find. Lovely decor, great food, excellent service. The staff were genuinely warm and attentive. A little pricey but worth it!

Went for my sister birthday, I have never been before but my mum and dad go all the time. I was very surprised. Beautiful place, small but comfortable. The staff were very friendly and would do anything for you. The food was gorgeous, couldn't ask for anything better. Best Indian I have had. Was surprised at the price, we went on a Sunday, so mains were half price. Very cheap. For 6 people was £100, with starters, mains, and drinks all included. Madness!

Visited this fantastic place on a Sunday with my family. Wow, lost for words I was. The atmosphere was fantastic, service and reception was top notch especially considering how busy it was. When the food came out it was presented well but then the taste was absoluntly amazing. Each bite got better and better. Now comes the most dreaded part of the evening which is the payment. However, to our suprise the bill was very low considering how much food we ordered. We had found out that it was half price main dishes across the whole menu excluding king prawn dishes. This was the cherry on top of the cake for us and a fantastic end of our Akhtars experience. I definitely will be going back with a lot more people!

This place is amazing, I loved it here, staff so friendly I really was in my element here, the foods amazing, the bread is deeeeelish... Bit crowded but to hell with that I loved it here, I had the korma and 2 other dishes, really nice. The staff make this place aswell as the food :)

We have been here a few times over the last few months and can never understand why it is so quiet. The food is always good, friendly efficient service and you can take your own drink although it is more than reasonable to buy there.

Was there for a birthday meal a few weeks ago... The atmosphere is good, the decor is good, staff very friendly.... But the food wasn't anything special in my opinion... I could hardly feel any flavour in my curry.... It felt like a bit basic... At least in comparison to some other curry places I've been... Also a bit pricey for what it is, esp. given the location... Could justify those prices in a bigger place, eg. in a town or a city, but not in a tiny place like this !... Anyway, I'm unlikely to be going back, but then I'm not local... I suppose it's ok if you're local and can't travel, because there's definately better places in Yorkshire/Derbyshire.

I visit this restaurant usually 3-5 times a year and usually it's very good. On this occasion I was disappointed. Visiting on a quiet night, the service we got was of the restaurant mood...lethargic and lazy. Slow service and drinks not once offered. It's like we weren't even there. My main reason for writing a review was that the offer that the website advertises and still advertises today wasn't honoured.

I reviewed this place a year ago after we dropped in on the off-chance on a Sunday evening.

Maybe it was just a one off but......two of our meals had to be sent back because they were very bland, they were two completely different dishes, but tasted the same.

We ordered a take away this evening and I am so impressed I had to leave a review immediately! Now I'm not a big fan of curry, my husband on the other hand comes from an Indian family and loves it. The hotter the better. We ordered tandoori chicken and chicken wing starters. Both beautifully moist and tasty and came with lovely fresh salad. For Mains my husband had lamb zahl and garlic chicken for me. Requested hubby's to be extra hot and mine very mild the gentleman that answered the phone was very polite and extremely helpful even when I called 30 mins later to order an extra naan. Both curries had a very generous portion of meat. Extremely tender meat Especially the lamb which you rarely get in a take away. The sauces were fantastic. Absolutely gorgeous! Perfect rice. Beautiful naan. I can't wait to order again and I expect we will be visiting the restaurant soon! Thank you!!

We visit here every 4-8 weeks. Service and food excellent. Very good choice on menu. Lamb dishes particularly yummy. I like the idea of bring your own or buy at the restaurant for alcohol - both of which we have done. Very clean restaurant. Great to watch the chefs cooking. Nothing is too much trouble for them. This is my favourite restaurant at present - hard to find a better one.

Usually visit at weekends, and the staff will always try to accommodate you if you haven't booked. The food is always first class and delivered to the table hot. The prices are reasonable, and service is friendly without being over-fussy for the next drink etc.

Everyone has one. That one Indian restaurant that they compare all others to. Well this is ours. The food is great, eat out or take away. Both are good. The service is very good and it's an aground lovely experience. We often visit other Indian restaurants and leave saying, "yeah, it was good, but it wasn't like Aktar's!"

Very good food, all the dishes I've had have been very tasty and made with fresh ingredients. I've been at least a dozen times and never been disappointed. Buffet night can be a bit crowded but that's not surprising... best to book a table. You CAN bring your own beer and wine - they're happy to do that.

Gone to the restaurant on a Thursday under the impression it's the free cobra night. Anyhow rocks up to the bar, and before even opening my mouth.. "Cobra Sir?" I obviously thought nothing of it being Cobra night, and agreed and thanked the bar keep.

Early one Thursday in November we called in on an empty restaurant to sit down to an lovely meal, consuming the wine and lager we had brought in with us. The place then came to life and we enjoyed our visit.

Just visited Aktars with my partner for his birthday, ordered popadoms starters and mains, before we finished our popadoms the bald headed waiter was removing our plates.. I asked why we were being rushed to be told there was no rush but starters are ready! I advised him that if they couldnt accomodate us they shouldnt have accepted our booking.. The restaurant was 75% empty and it was Thursday evening so not a busy evening. I requested they take the starters away and we will pay for what we had had, which was a round of drinks for 2, popadoms and pickle tray. He actioned my request without an apology or any acknowledgement of his poor customer service. On settling the bill at the bar, we were given an apology by the bar man who acknowledged the situation and offered us a discount if we were to return in the near future. We have used this restaurant on several occasions and also the takeaway service, always getting excellent food and service, but this evening was absolutely appauling service and I do not intend on re visiting this restaurant in a hurry.

This is a very popular Indian restaurant because the food and service are excellent. Whilst in the heart of the local community, I am sure that people venture from further afield to sample the food. There is free parking round the back and you are encouraged to bring your own alcohol even though there is a well stocked bar. The staff are all very welcoming and smiling. Food ordering and delivery is quite quick depending on what you order and every meal is consistently tasty, fresh and well cooked. We have visited this place a number of times, usually with friends and always enjoy ourselves; the value for money is very good especially as the food is very good quality. The only slight downside is the frozen deserts; either order them to be brought out before you have finished eating or ask them to defrost for 30 seconds in the microwave as they are very hard and need to defrost a little before you can enjoy them! However, that being said, they are delicious! Hot towels and after dinner sweeties are a welcome bonus.
