The staff are so friendly and welcoming, when you’re waiting for food for a takeaway they talk and it doesn’t even feel like you’ve been waiting! We travel from chesterfield and honestly wouldn’t go anywhere else for a curry now! It’s BANGINGG

Fantastic service, the restaurant had plenty of room around the tables and was nicely decorated. Most important the food was incredible. We had the lamb vindaloo and chicken madras and honestly it’s the best I’ve had in a very very long time. It’s a must visit!

You get a well deserved 5* from me. What a fantastic makeover. That relates to the decor, the food, AND the service! It's a huge improvement on what it was like beforehand. The booths make it so much more personalised, and you can have a private conversation with your party now, whereas you couldn't before. The food was so plentiful and tasty, and there was a smile on all the staffs faces. We look forward to going again, and highly recommend this restaurant. Definitely recommend booking though as its going to be popular when word gets out. 😁

Just had a fabulous evening at the beautifully refurbished Aktars . Food fabulous, staff very attentive especially Kaby and Ryan . Felt like a down town experience rather than a down Killamarsh! Can’t wait to return . Thanks guys !

Fantastic place and top class food refurb looks class

I’m slightly gutted to be leaving a poor eview as the food here is amazing but twice the service has let them down. Most recent was Last night when we ordered a take away for collection… they said leave an hour before collecting. So we arrived 1 hr later and then had to wait 45minutes for our food. They hadn’t even started cooking it when we arrived and there were several other annoyed customers in front of us who had also been waiting for their collection. They must have taken on too much which for an experienced restaurant is poor planning. We barely got an apology and only when I repeatedly approached staff with my annoyance did they offer me a free drink. I didn’t want a drink … I wanted to be home with my family and friends enjoying our meal, celebrating my husbands birthday. When the food did arrive I checked it through and there was a meal missing. So glad I hadn’t driven home before discovering this!!!!! Poor service and some of the staff really didn’t seem to care. So many collection orders were late and they didn’t even utter an apology once they finally brought out the food. On a positive note the new refurb looks great and diners who were eating in looked to be well tended to but better planning is needed overall!! All those Unhappy customers that could easily have been avoided!!! Thank fully the food was delicious as usual but it’s definitely put me off ordering for takeaway again

The food is fantastic, the service is top notch and the prices more than fair, there are only 3 indian restaurant's I go to, this is the main one, the first I will always try writing this also makes me want to go and order from here, it's that nice!

First time visiting, highly recommend. The staff were great, very friendly and made you feel welcomed. The portions were amazing, well worth the money. Had to bring some home with us and they gave us extra rice and a free onion bahji. All left with full and happy tummies. Couldn't recommend enough, we will be returning! I can see how they have won awards, this place is a gem. Staff were great, they had a large party on (must have been 25-30 ppl) plus the restaurant was packed. They managed to squeeze us in which was greatly appreciated. Food was amazing, we were given some great dish suggestions and the service was slick. Very impressed, we’ll be back for sure 👌🏻

Been a few times to this restaurant and always had a fabulous meal. Always a warm welcome even without making a booking. Food fantastic everytime we've visited. Waiting staff very attentive but not overly so, nice to be asked if you want a break between courses. A lovely varied menu somewhat detrimental as really hard to decide what to choose. Love the onion bhaji so light and not at all stodgy or heavy like in some other places I've visited.

Never has an issue with this Indian . Been one of thes best ones about. But ordered tonight the food was cold when we collect it. The chips was like they had been sat there all night and the curry we had two pieces of chicken rest was onion . Not an happy bunny tonight

Full stars across the board for this restaurant it ticked all the boxes for me, looks small from the outside but nicely laid out in the interior, aswell what I found is that it almost had an open kitchen as in a large window looking into the kitchen area where I watched some amazing food being prepared

Always good food here but tonight it was even better than usual, and great, friendly entertaining service. The atmosphere was great (sometimes it's a little quiet depending on the time you go). The music was a little on the loud side on the back table by the kitchen but not too bad!

Ordered delivery for the first time after reading on the website that it had been voted 3rd best in Sheffield. We were unfortunately quite disappointed in the food though - it was lukewarm but more importantly everything was very very bland. For example, even though a korma is mild, this one lacked any actual flavour or richness. I’m really surprised, so I’m assuming this isn’t the norm? The service over the phone was fantastic however and the delivery was exactly when they said it would be.

First time visiting here and very impressed. Tasty round and crispy Bhajis, best dopiaza I’ve ever tasted. Madras was perfect fluffy rice and big soft naans. Absolutely top quality food if it’s consistently this good we wouldn’t go anywhere else. Highly recommended

Avid curry lovers over a lot of years and we ordered off the takeaway menu. Chicken Madras had flavour and heat but not so much that it became bitter, Chicken Dopiaza full of flavour with spices and creaminess of onions coming through, Lamb Zal again full of flavour with spices and chillies complimenting the natural taste of the lamb. The consistency of all 3 curries were rich, thick sauces with not a hint of runniness or excess oil floating on the top just as they should be. Mushroom and pilau rice and garlic naan breads perfectly done. We have struggled to get any type of consistency in recent years when ordering curries but this will be our go to place in future if this is the quality of food they produce.

Akhtars has always been our go to however past few times we have been they just take forever to give you your food. They clearly take too many orders. Ordering a simple 2 person order and collecting it ourselves and still not ready 90mins later is absolutely ridiculous. Going to go elsewhere where they don’t take forever to get orders together. It’s really put us off ordering now.

Best Indian food we had for along time service was excellent and food was outstanding came out busting to the brim will definitely be going back 👌

Been here a couple of times for pick up and a couple of times delivery!!! Absolutely the BEST curry house in Sheffield and Rotherham hands down!!! Amazing service from each and everyone who works here. Would not go anywhere else now!!!

You can not fault the food but the service is changing you are all busy sorting the deliveries out staff are so focused on other things they forgot our drinks we didn't have knives and forks you just need to look after your tables and then at 9.30 you start to clean things with that horrible yellow spray while we are eating all you can smell is cleaning products you are always rushing to close and go home please read this we come often and it's such a shame all my friends are saying the same x.

It’s a shame to write this review as the service and food was fantastic however, please be aware before you go that the prices in the current menu 27.8.23 are incorrect and they will add a 10% service charge onto your bill and not tell you unless you ask, legally this can be removed and you can tip whatever you feel appropriate for the service you receive but be mindful if you tip you could have already tipped 10% of your bill unknowingly already. We went as a large party of 3 families so as we knew we were splitting the bill, everyone had worked out how much they owed for what they had using the prices on the menus we were given on arrival. When it came to paying we realised we were £40 short so checked our adding up multiple times, which was correct. When we queried this the manager said there was a 10% service charge that we had to pay and handed us a piece of paper stating that the prices in the menu were incorrect and had gone up. We feel that this information should have been provided when we booked and or arrived and that the service charge was legally optional, they didn’t have in writing anywhere how much items were with the new prices so basically they can charge whatever they want. This turned a lovely meal out into a very stressful experience and has put us off returning.

First time visiting this restaurant on Friday night , and was not disappointed! We were a family of 14 , the food was lovely and the service was excellent, special mention to Hasy & Junior for making everything run smoothly, very impressed we will definitely be back .

First time here, bit of a hidden gem really, staff were spot on, very personable, food were great and plentiful, left with a doggy bag. Will definitely return, advise booking as it gets busy, in a nice way.

What a fantastic place, first in on a Wednesday night with our young family. The staff were really attentive but not pushy. The service was quick enough to keep everyone happy. And the food wasn't bad either, our 6yr old absolutely loved her chicken korma and the 4yr old couldn't get enough of the parathas. For a Wednesday night there was a nice trickle of tables making for a nice atmosphere.

What a great place. We were up from Wales to see family and came here. Immaculately clean , and we received a warm welcome. Food outstanding especially King Prawn dopiaza. My sister used to live locally and we are going to see her in Whitby tomorrow. She asked us to take 2 chicken tikka masalas ( CTM) with us as she adored them ! My husband only ever eats CTMs and said his was the best he had ever tasted. Lovely to see the owner keeping a good eye on everything. He should be very proud. Our waiter Kabi was very kind and patient with a great sense of humour. In the words of Arnie “We’ll be back”! Thank you

Disappointing! Table of 8 in restaurant booked for a birthday meal. The attitude of some of the staff was poor and felt as if they were doing a favour, very blunt remarks and bad attitude all round. Where we were seated there was a table opposite full of cleaning products so not exactly ideal scenery. Food was bland and salty. To add to this further as soon as we had finished our mains we were asked to vacate as the table was needed!!! This is despite us booking well in advance and there being a table next to us full of cleaning products etc that could have been cleared!! We were then made to all stand at the till to pay where people were waiting to collect takeaways and waiters were pushing past our party and stating they needed to prioritise collection! All in all a pretty bad experience and not at all value for money! Think perhaps some training in table service and customer etiquette may also be required!!!

Food was bland compared to other curry houses, nothing really tasted of anything. The best part of the meal was the pickle tray. A couple of members of staff acted like they were doing you a favour as opposed to providing you a service. The whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth (despite the food being flavourless). It has put me off returning to Killamarsh as a whole let alone Akhtars.

The food was excellent. However was thoroughly disappointed with the fact I couldn't bring my own alcohol in as advertised on the establishments website and menu.

Staff are very nice and friendly, the food wasn't as expected. I ordered tandoori King prawn, it hadn't seen a tandoori oven, such a shame 😕

First time visitor. Met my mate who travelled down from Barnsley. He asked what time I'd booked it for and I just said ah it's Tuesday just rock up. Place was really busy / lively. They got us in though - thankfully! Two parties there including one for a 7 year old girl - great to see rather than going to the usual McD's birthday party! Foodwise - well, when you rave about the quality of the pickle tray you know it's gonna be a good one. We asked about one of the pickles and the waiter told us how he made it. All food was good. Service was good / friendly. We had our fill - Steve couldn't finish his (slacker) but we vowed to come back. Many thanks

Not local but fancied a curry while camping at Waleswood. It did not dissappoint the food was top quality and we would not hesitate to return if we choose to stay again.

Whenever I go to an Indian I either have something hot to prove to myself I'm still an aspiring hard man, or I try something tasty to release my inner Ramsey. The nice man serving us recommended the Bengal, oh my, what a dish! It is made with Naga chillis which I've had before and they blew my head off, but somehow these magical people managed to squeeze them in perfectly with some other potions that created the perfectly balanced tasty and beautifully aggressive curry. The naan bread I ordered was also stunning, coming from someone who has tried a lot of different Indians, this is a huge compliment. Aside from all the food stuff, I'd like to give kudos to the waiter, handled the kids brilliantly, was attentive and catered well to our needs. Great job!

So disappointing that it took 2 hours and 3 phone calls to get our curry! Ended up cancelling the order in the end as it was too late to eat on a week night. Being Valentine's Night was no excuse to be treated this way as a valued customer who uses this takeaway regularly.

Although it was early evening when we arrived the restaurant was already busy and almost full. Staff were very quick to take drinks orders before returning to take the food orders. The poppadoms were the standard fare but the pickle tray was excellent, the onion bhajis were large and came in pairs, the seekh kebab was a little bland for my taste but others tried it and said it was fine so just personal taste. The lamb karahi was very tasty but the show stopper was the massive garlic naan meant for four people and dripping in garlic butter. Overall an excellent night out. Parking is just out on the main road so may entail a little walk.

Doesn’t matter if your dining in or taking away the quality of food is always top notch, staff are always pleasant and helpful. Best curry house around

First time eating at Akhtars. The staff were so friendly and funny, and the food was out of this world. We all had different dishes and not one of us had any complaint. They were all delicious.. Will definitely go back again and again...x

We have visited the restaurant on many of occasions, each time we are greeted & treat with fabulous friendly service. The food is always incredibly delicious & freshly made. The king prawn shashlick & Akhtars special are 2 of my most favourite dishes.
