Akbars - Sheffield City Centre in Sheffield

We were well greeted. A bit expensive for the quality of food you expect. The guy serving our table was very polite and helpful, however the food wasn’t as we thought, it wasn’t tasty as we left all the plates mostly untouched.

Manager Arfan rude and has awful customer service The manager has no manners, can’t actually do anything right. Order was messed up and took way too long to arrive instead of finding a way to resolve the issue he started giving very fiesty answers and making sly remarks they were ignored a couple times but finally enough was enough an argument started and he must think he’s the owner of the place or something telling people they can’t come back when he himself started off as a waiter years ago.

Went into Akbars with my family after a long time. Got a variety of food the chicken tikka masala was 10/10 everyone loved it. Must say our waiter Saif was very attentive and recommended us with some good food. He allowed us to take our time to order and patiently waited, he made us feel very comfortable. Definitely worth going

Outstanding curry.. better than prithi Raj or Varanzi Inn or lavang…best curry in sheffield in my opinion..especially love the lamb chops and leg of lamb

Can't rate the food, service or atmosphere as we never got over the threshold. We phoned on Wednesday evening to book a table at Akbar's in Sheffield as we were driving down from Scotland to attend a concert on Thursday evening at Sheffield City Hall. Our booking, for 6pm on Thursday 8th February was duly confirmed. We chose Akbar's as we had eaten there on a previous visit to Sheffield and really enjoyed it. We arrived in Sheffield at the tail end of a minor blizzard, checked into our hotel and then slogged 20 minutes through slush and puddles to get to Akbar's to find it closed. No lights on. Phoning to find out what had happened to our booking, we were told they had decided to close. Their Rotherham restaurant was open though, could they book us in there? Not really, since it was 6:05, we were in Sheffield and our concert started at 7:45. No explanation was given for why they had not bothered to contact any of their booked tables to let them know they were not opening. The telephone equivalent of a shrug. We came across a table of 10 people in the pub we ended up in who had also booked a table at Akbar's and were stood up. We won't go back to Akbar's after that treatment, whether in Sheffield, Rotherham or anywhere else.

Chaotic and manic restaurant that did not have a nice vibe. Too big and noisy to be an enjoyable experience. The waiters don’t bring out the food but the chefs, who in turn bring the wrong food out. The chicken was pink and had to be returned, whilst the naan was stale. Tables too small to be enjoyable, evidence of the attitude of packing in and piling high.

Amazing service from Shuaib and Saif. They were really attentive and we had a lovely time. Will definitely visit again.

10/10 service from the get go from Shuaib and Saif. Shuaib dealt with us for most of the night and was patient with a rather large table. Drinks were delivered with rapid pace and the starters were spaced out perfectly from the mains. I would definitely reccomend going here if you’re in the vicinity.

We came as a large party for my nephews birthday, we were moved after being seated as a few couldn’t make it, my husband was at at the end and through the tiny gap between tables waiters were back and forth making him lean in every time, also putting trays of drinks in front of him whilst they served. Very slow service and still waiting for a glass for my bottled beer having asked twice, we’d brought a cake which they kindly delivered before saying we had to leave our table for another booking without being able to cut and share the cake. We then had to stand in reception to organise payment between us. Truly shocking experience although the hood was nice, the only positive. Will not return in a hurry if ever.

Been there twice in the past month, wasn’t that impressed first time but thought it was the meal chosen. Second time a totally different meal ordered but pretty much same lack lustre taste and flavours. Seems like all meals are the same regardless of order. Wouldn’t recommend and unlikely to return.

Akbar's Restaurant in Sheffield is a great place to go for a delicious Indian meal. The food is authentic and flavorful, the atmosphere is lovely, and the service is friendly. However, the wait time for food can be long, especially when the restaurant is busy.

I came with my wife in this beautiful restaurant and was served by a very professional and knowledgeable waiter Kammy he was very polite and had good recommendations for food. I have been to other Akbars such as Manchester and Leeds and is no where near the service that this restaurant has. It is one of the best service i have had. The food was incredibly delicious and tasty. Thank you to my waiter Kammy and the staff and hope to see you again.

Spent weekend in Sheffield and wanted to try Akbars and we were not disappointed the food was excellent. Shoaib and Ansh were very courteous and looked after us very well and were willing to go the extra mile. We will definitely be coming back to Akbars in the future.

Excellent service and really good food. Our waiter was saif and he couldn't do enough to ensure we had everything we needed and made our experience great. Very good prices for the quality and portions of food. Will definitely be returning.

This was the second time my friend and I dined at Akbar's and the standard was excellent as usual. Nothing more to add than my previous review, other than to reiterate the food, service and cleanliness are all top class. Many thanks to Kammy and the team for a superb service. My friend and I will definitely dine there again - this is our go-to restaurant! 😊

Very clean and hygienic. Great atmosphere. Waiting staff friendly and we were served quickly. Special thanks to Saif who made us feel very welcome and served us quickly and professionally. Food portions were HUGE and arrived piping hot. Food itself was absolutely delicious and very filling. My friend and I are pretty big blokes yet we were completely full by the time we finished our main. Sadly no room for dessert! Would definitely recommend Akbars to anyone who is interested in fine Indian cuisine, fact I can't recommend this place enough! Thanks to all staff for a great evening out.

Called in March 1th at around 10.45pm with a colleague to Akbars. We ordered 4 x Poppodoms 1 x keema naan, 2 x fries, 1 x butter chicken, 2x rice and 1 x chicken balti. Within 1 minute the poppadoms were on our table , ( fast service or so we thought ) . one minute later all of our food that we ordered came along with drinks. We hadn't even started the poppadoms, like it was a race to get it to us . The butter chicken was so bland , absolutely no flavour what's so ever , ( i even asked the waiter if i could have some salt to add a little flavour) , and to finish off there was hardly any chicken in there at all. It tasted like yogurt and to be totally honest I've tasted better supermarket currys out of a tin to be fair. Then to top it all my keema naan was in fact just a plain naan. My colleague wasn't to impressed either so we decided to ask for the bill , pay and speak to the manager Maz..The bill came to £45.05 The manage came and to be fair was very pleasant and understanding and offered to look after us if we returned another day . That unfortunately will never happen and I'm sorry but i can't recommend Akbars . Strangely enough, besides being really rushed and the food piled on our small table so quick and all at once , we found the staff and the manager genuine and helpful . Worst butter chicken ever and i go around the country a lot trying restaurants out over many years , unfortunately Akbars butter chicken was in my lowest category. Paying 45 pounds for this was hard and bad enough and then moving on to find somewhere else says it all . Definitely won't be returning just because of the food .Maybe it was because we came in 40 minutes before closing , if that was to be the case perhaps they should shut the doors an hour earlier to prevent diners and customers being rushed , that's the impression we got . But like i said and i'll stand by my word , the manager Maz and the staff we all polite and friendly . Perhaps because we left 3 quarters of the meal they might have refunded us a tenner , it was never offered so hey ho . We went on elsewhere to eat

Excellent large very well furnished building. Loads of very friendly waiting on staff. Ordered drinks. Lamb chops starter. And poppadoms/chutneys. Lamb was amazing. Very meaty. And flavorful. Karai Gosht was full of Lamb. Chicken biryani. Was lovely aswell. Family naan was large and very nice. Overall excellent restaurant. Definitely recommend. 👍

Greeted warmly today in Akbar's and had prompt service. They were very accommodating and cautious regarding allergies and out waiter (Saif) made sure all our needs were catered for. Would recommend it to anyone wanting an Indian in Sheffield and will be sure to visit again 👍.

Visité Akbar's hace unos días. Debo decir que la comida estuvo increíble. Las mejores chuletas de cordero que he probado. Y el plato principal era balti de marisco que estaba delicioso. El servicio fue 10/10. Nuestro camarero Arfan fue fantástico. Nos ayudó con cualquier pregunta que le hiciéramos y estuvo atento. El ambiente era agradable y acogedor. Definitivamente recomendaría este lugar.

I LOVE this restuarant!! Dates, night out with friends, family occasions literally anything and it fits. I completed the "big un" chef challenge and my god it was the best curry I've had from there. The staff are lovely and funny too! Great prices, even better food.

I decided to send this review after Akbar’s totally ignored my complaint about their Sheffield restaurant. Our visit to Akbar of three family members was last year. On the evening the service was extremely poor, and over 2.5 hours we only managed to eat popadoms and the starter-Both were up to standard. The main course was a disaster though because after 3 attempts the waiters brought out food that was not ordered. This included mash on the third delivery which we had neither ordered or new that they served this dish. I complained to one of the waiters and asked to see the manager to complain. We were initially greeted by the manager on arrival so knew he was present, however he would not come out and discuss the problems of service and wrong main dishes that had been served up. By this time we had been at the restaurant over 2 and 1/2 hours and refused offers to try and bring more food to correct the order. We had had enough and told the waiter unless he could get the manager to come and talk to us, I was going to settle the bill without paying the main course dishes we had not consumed. It was apparent on the evening that other tables were experiencing similar events to us. I told the waiter to bring the bill and advised I would be short paying in the circumstances , however I was told that Akbar’s would then automatically call the police ! I left cash at reception and asked one last time for the manager to talk to us. This didn’t happen and as we left the waiter informed us he was now calling the police. I was so perturbed by the disgraceful events of the evening that I wrote to the CEO at Bradford HQ., and also emailed my letter to his personal email. The letter was sent over 2 months ago and I have received neither an acknowledgment or reply in any form. It therefore appears to me that Akbar’s cannot handle any form of criticism of their food or service , and appear to instinctively resort to police reporting of customers who like us on the evening were rightly only prepared to fairly pay for the food that was correctly served and consumed. It is such a shame that Akbar’s act in this manner when we have in the past been really happy with their restaurant. I decided to review my experience in this way with trip advisor because Akbar’s refused to acknowledge my complaint, and also to assist any other customers should they experience the same poor levels of service and management in future.

Absolutely fabulous, cannot find one fault, probably best Indian food I’ve had, waiter very friendly, went for hubby’s birthday and they made it special, definitely going again 😊

We came to Akbar’s for a family meal last Friday. We won’t be coming back again. Had to wait an hour and half for our mains. Our waiter and the lady sorting our drinks were rude and looked like we was putting them out by just being there! When food finally arrived it was cold, with no flavour and very dry! Looked like it had been sat on side for a week. Their staff were arguing and threatening other guests for their upset on such a terrible service.

Went for dinner with a large group. Preordered before we went. Staff friendly and the food came out quickly and all at once. I had chicken tikka to start which was lovely. Main was butter chicken, which was alright. Took a while to order and get drinks served.

We came as a big group between Christmas and new year and although we booked it was extremely busy and we had to wait a while.Once seated the service was slow throughout the evening often having to ask for replacement drinks.However to say there was 12 of us all of the food was absolutely gorgeous and exactly what we expect from akbars.It was very rowdy on the evening we went and very noisy at time’s.
