Fantastic but little expensive..

I recently visited Akber Restaurant in Sheffield for dinner and had a wonderful experience. I ordered Chana Paneer, Dal Tadka, and Samosa Chaat, and each dish was delicious! The flavors were authentic. The Chana Paneer had a rich and flavorful sauce, the Dal Tadka was perfectly spiced, and the Samosa Chaat was a delightful mix of textures and tangy flavors. What really made the evening special was the exceptional service. I had the pleasure of being served by Bilal, whose attention to detail and warm hospitality truly stood out. He went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. Highly recommend Akber Restaurant for both the food and the top-notch service. I will definitely be returning...!

Been and had onion bajas and a chicken tikka massage curry .been b4 n said wouldn't go again but had to as it was one of my family's birthday. Well I will not be visiting no more .horrible food the worst bajas and curry I've ever had and I lv my currys.the drinks r way to expensive.the chef needs to learn ow to do proper idian food .yak

Please don't come here. I wish I could give 0 stars. The management was rude. I don't know why they are venting out on customers. I went with my friends, on Saturday. The service was bad. The food, omg it's horrible. No one is explaining the dish quantity or what we are ordering. They just bring something and force us to eat. One of the statement the manager said 'This is how we make'. That's very rude. That's not the way to talk to a customer who is paying more than £50. But he deducted the price money. That is good. The atmosphere is too dim and depressing. Loud as well.

Great quality food, brilliant staff

Food was nice but the prices have gone sky high nearly £100 for 2 people and 1 kids meal 1 l round of drinks (pepsi) what would usually be about £45 from a takeaway also when 20 people go and it all gets put on 1 bill having to figure out how much you owe n who's had what is ridiculous so stressful definitely the last time I'll be using them

Absolutely brilliant. Delicious food and drinks, lots of choices, including vegetarian - the Mushroom Paneer Balti was one of the best curries I've ever tasted! Smart yet comfortable decor, spotlessly kept, fast service, friendly helpful staff, very highly recommended.

Waiter, staff, and ambiance were fine. However, the balti was mediocre and the “dal makhani” - which wasn’t dal makhani at all - was probably the worst thing with lentils I’ve ever had in my life. Wrong dal - was chana - and the preparation was completely wrong, turned out a crazy orange red color and was super sweet. The one thing in the restaurant’s favor was that our waiter did kindly warn us about it, we stupidly still ordered it bc I had been craving dal makhani. They should call the dish sweet chickpeas and it would be ok - but to call it dal makhani is an atrocity. :/

For a Londoner it was over rated on reviews, meat was quality but lacked the flavour for my taste buds

Tried to dine in, sadly experienced such racist behaviour from the next table and managers ignoring their behaviour, gave us no option but made to feel that had to leave and pay in full for what we’d had. Awaiting a response from head office. That aside the food was good and the waiter was good, albeit nervous and intimidated as us!

Decor 10/10 very modern Unfortunately Food was a let down Starter : Fish Pakora (batter was very hard not very well seasoned) Lamb Chops - delicious highly recommend Mains: keema karahi, chicken karahi both were very bland portion sizes good Naan was very tough stogey and not very tasty. Excellent service and good atmosphere in this curry house located in the West One Complex. Outside looking in it looks small but I was surprised by large size of the restaurant when I went inside. Food is good. Family naan is huge. Butter chicken is good. I was disappointed with the palak paneer (spinach with cheese) as I found it too oily. Was informed later I could have requested for less oil.

Our waiter was brilliant, he kept checking on us and was really helpful when it came to my little ones allergies. I don't usually experience this level of knowledge and willingness to help with the food when it comes to allergies. Food was great too by the way. The lamb shank was so soft 🤤

First time visiting this akbars and got to say the best one yet. It was so clean. Service was amazing. Food was good. It looked amazing in there too.

Firstly the food portions have been reduced dramatically. The prices have doubled. £8 for a naan bread. Waiter kept harrassing us every 2mins. Terrible experience. Wont be returning ever. I will be going elsewhere in Sheffield.

I have eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants and, having an Indian mother in law that makes the best food ever, consider myself quite a connoisseur of this cuisine. This was delicious! The meat was so tender. There was no unnatural redness about the dishes. There was just delightful flavours. The family naan was a spectacle but also light and fluffy. Ali our waiter was attentive polite and ensured we had a lovely evening. Our son demolished the gulab jamen for dessert! Will definitely be back on our next visit to Sheffield. 5⭐️

Booked table for 7oclock got seeted at 7.20 there was 20 of us service was very poor when the food come it was shocking not very nise tasted better frozen currys better than that and all at a cost of £630 not go there again ok if your pissed

Order chicken kari should have large chunks of peppers and other vegetables didn’t have any, and the chicken was like mince meat chopped into tiny little pieces why. Makes you wonder if it’s left overs from other people. Services was good friendly staff but it’s like a conveyor belt in out as fast they can.

Personally, I think this is the place in Sheffield where you can get the most delicious spicy lamb chops. Unfortunately, several good Indian restaurants have closed due to the coronavirus, but this one has survived well. Of course, we ordered spicy lamb chops, butter chicken curry, and garlic naan. The spicy lamb chops might be the spiciest in Sheffield... The well-cooked lamb chops are well-seasoned with spices and go perfectly with beer. Butter chicken, on the other hand, has a nice kick of spice but is quite creamy. This time, the three of us ordered garlic naan, and we were surprised by the size. It has a good hint of garlic and goes well with butter chicken. The taste I had been waiting for for 4 years was delicious. It's a complete meal in no time. I was very satisfied and thank you for the meal.

Came from birmingham with my friend the food was not nice we paid £50 but the food was to dry and they didn't make any effort the waiters were all realy grumpy not welcoming at all, don't think we will be returning.

Visited on Saturday just gone for my son’s 18th birthday. Waited over an hour for a table we had booked (admittedly one of our guests was a little late). The main host at the desk was lovely, however, the bar staff were rude. When we were finally seated they hadn’t placed a throne for the birthday boy to sit on or remembered that we had a wheelchair user in our party so we had to remove a couple of chairs ourselves to accommodate him. The whole meal felt rushed. When we had finished they started to clear the table but it wasn’t cleaned and we weren’t informed that they were bringing out the cake. They didn’t even make sure the birthday boy was there and I almost missed it myself! Would eat there again but would advise anyone booking a special occasion with a lot of guests to give it a miss!

Saif was AMAZING. gave us the most princess treatment we had ever received in our lives. Super quick and friendly service and the food as usual, was great. See you next Sunday 💕

Will not be dining here again. The prices have gone ridiculously high, £15 for a curry, £7 for a nan bread is a joke. Profiteering and greed. They charged us £2.40 to refill a chutney from a pickle tray which was originally £3 anyway, absolutely ridiculous most decent restaurants give this for free. They have lost regular customers in us. Restaurant was empty no atmosphere at all and waiters just staring at you through your meal. Very uncomfortable experience.

Honestly, I had the most humiliating experience at Akbar’s. The person who took the order wrote down an incorrect dish name and provided the dish we didn’t actually order. We said it’s not the right dish we ordered and returned the dish. some other waiter provided us the right dish later. The one who took the order came and spoke to us rudely and he argued that the dish we ordered was not on the menu… he was speaking to us as a if we are being fed for free. It was so embarrassing the way he treated us. It was humiliating. We asked him to call his manager and his manager came and we explained the issue to him. He understood the issue and immediately apologised on behalf of him. We didn’t want to continue dinner there and we wanted to leave immediately. The manager behaved so well and insisted us to continue our dinner and hence we had our dinner and asked for bill. Since we have had enough humiliation in that restaurant, we didn’t even check the bill and we rushed to pay the amount. Irony is they billed for the dish we didn’t order( the one we sent back as it was not the dish we ordered)!!!!

Amazing food! Was visiting the city with my partner, we decided to go for Akbar's and hands down it’s the best branch of Akbar’s! The spice was spot on and all the food we ordered tasted fresh and hot. Will definitely be returning in the future In sha Allah.

Had a fantastic evening went with my husband and kid's. Staff was very friendly especially our waiter Arfan, got us everything on time and recommended a karahi chicken Asian style for my husband which was 10/10 A Wounder-Full evening out. Highly recommended the king prawn tikka for the starters with there Asian sauce, amazing. The naans are huge ! Thanks guy's will see you again

Went to Akbars Sheffield for Iftari the food was amazing the service was 10/10 loved the meat chops and there new dish on the menu lamb on the bone highly recommended, by Arfan and it was superb. They've got a new mocktail menu which has mango mojito on it, i like minty drinks so this was a waw factor for me. The service was amazing even through the restaurant had over 140 people dinning in at the same time. Professional staff and great food place to be if your in Sheffield next

Akbars In Sheffield had such a bad habit of not listening to their customer as well as managers being quite rude. Food was undercooked as well as the main taking over an hour to come. The main treat of this place was the fact that managers were allowed to argue and abuse me when I asked to cancel the food as I have been waiting a long time for my food. the guy Arfan, who is the manager of the place acted very rude and told me to never come back as well as shaking me down. Imagine being a women who felt scared that a guy came up in my space and started attacking me.

Went down to open my fast at Akbars. Food was bad and uncooked. Mains took over an hour to come and the manager was very rude. The guy was called Arfan, he told me to never come back and abused me and my family also laughed in my face being sarcastic asking me how my food was when I had to tell him three times the started was bad and uncooked. Clearly they think this is acceptable…. No longer visited this store again.

Been bad service as well as the fact we have been fasting and the food hasn’t come for over an hour. Also the manager keeps arguing with me about how busy it is yet the people who came after us…got their food and left.

Honestly this place has gotten worse. The service was 1/10 the food is all oil and the managers are here arguing with me about what’s right and what’s wrong. It’s not hard you make a curry where the food isn’t just oil…. Or the starters isn’t just watered down. Clearly Akbars is more about fighting with customers than serving good food. When I said I’ll leave he goes in a loud tone leave leave I can’t help you. The manger you need to avoid is Arfan as well as the fact he only cares about money

The food tastes very mediocre, cold and undercooked. The service is even more appalling where the manager Arfan has the worst attitude and enjoys to fabricate stories and acting in a condescending manner rather than apologising for the poor service. Overall wouldn’t recommend, save your self the headache and bother as this is by far the worst akbars I’ve ever been to.

Waited for the food for over an hour, bought out 3 uncooked starters and half the things missing. Sent them back, same again. Waited over an hour for the mains, complained to the Manager Arfan who acted in an arrogance manner and enjoyed arguing back rather than rectifying or mediating the issue. This establishment definitely needs a manager who has better people skills who actually knows how to speak to people. Overall the Akbars chain has gone downhill and the staff do not respect the customer. Given them many chances and deffinetly will not be coming back here again! 😡

Visited the restaurant with my family for iftari. The service was quite bad as I had to ask three different servers that my chicken nambali was undercooked and raw. The second time the manager Arfan argued that I was wrong and the food was meant to be like that. Then our mains took over 50 mins to come. I kept asking how all the workers how long will the mains be and they kept saying 10 mins etc. When the food came and we paid the bill, the same manager Arfan was then rude as we left a negative review on goggle telling us to not come back and being funny with us saying wr should respect him as he look afters us. Also brought in my family member and how he’s only being nice to us because of my dad. That’s was really rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. What kind of place talks to their customers like that!

So disappointing to see that Akbars Sheffield have significantly increased prices. Main meals have increased from around £10 to now £15 onwards which is a 50% increase. Even a small starter like chicken pakora is coming in at £8 now. I think that it’s difficult to justify a 50% increase. Whilst I’ve eaten here for years I unfortunately will now choose better value curry houses of which there are a few now. Really sad to see that but I guess it’s an operational decision.

Food was very poor. Starters were minimal. Main issues were both of our mains were very dry and the 'Pillau' rice just appeared to be plain brown rice. Very overpriced. Only plus was the guys that served us. Never again.

Second time we’ve been here and food was consistently perfect! Could not recommend this place more 😊 I had the cheesy kebab and chicken dopiaza. The service was brilliant. Ali (our server) was always around when we needed him and another lovely member of staff pushed another table towards us so we had more space for our plates 😁 You must try this restaurant! Not bad at all. Maz if I recall the name of the waiter correctly was awesome. Everything efficient. Update: i went again 2 years later, and I didn't have to ask for another drink, more mint or the bill. Arfan who dealt with everything efficiently was so polite, and made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. Food was spot on. Extra chillies in my apna style karahi chicken and spinach, medium chicken tandoori masala and starters chicken and fish pakoras. 5/5 will visit again when I'm in Sheffield

Food was good. It was Friday night so had a good buzz to the restaurant. The lady who got our drinks was lovely and chipper. The guy who waited our table was almost hostile. He eyeballed us for requesting things, his colleague had to push him to tend to our table. It was quite shocking actually.

Can't rate the food, service or atmosphere as we never got over the threshold. We phoned on Wednesday evening to book a table at Akbar's in Sheffield as we were driving down from Scotland to attend a concert on Thursday evening at Sheffield City Hall. Our booking, for 6pm on Thursday 8th February was duly confirmed. We chose Akbar's as we had eaten there on a previous visit to Sheffield and really enjoyed it. We arrived in Sheffield at the tail end of a minor blizzard, checked into our hotel and then slogged 20 minutes through slush and puddles to get to Akbar's to find it closed. No lights on. Phoning to find out what had happened to our booking, we were told they had decided to close. Their Rotherham restaurant was open though, could they book us in there? Not really, since it was 6:05, we were in Sheffield and our concert started at 7:45. No explanation was given for why they had not bothered to contact any of their booked tables to let them know they were not opening. The telephone equivalent of a shrug. We came across a table of 10 people in the pub we ended up in who had also booked a table at Akbar's and were similarly stood up. We won't go back to Akbar's after that treatment, whether in Sheffield, Rotherham or anywhere else.

The food wasn't as good as I remembered. Some people didn't get every thing that they had ordered and when the staff were asked where those dishes were, we were told that they had finished serving our table. There were other large groups that seemed to get better service.

Food was amazing, flavourful, affordable and great portions. Service was great, friendly staff and attentive. Atmosphere, the furniture might be slightly outdated. Could do with nicer tables and chairs. The lighting was abit bland and clinical, as if you're sat in a hospital but nothing a nice warm ambient lighting can't fix. However, I'm there for the food and will always come back for the food.

Our Christmas works doo at Akbars Sheffield earned a disappointing 2 stars. The late food, lackluster service, and unaddressed concerns about overly spicy dishes left much to be desired. Despite spending over £300, the experience lacked the respect and decency we anticipated. For a better Akbars experience, I'd recommend trying the one on Meadow Bank Road, Rotherham, where the service and quality may meet expectations more reliably.

Massive restaurant,.food was OK, but nothing out of the ordinary. If you want a curry in a noisy environment, it's fine.

For a restaurant I believe most important is at least pay attention to the customer no matter what or how much he has ordered but I guess because you guys have big place so person with small orders doesn't matter and you will just ignore and make person wait for 1 hr just get takeaway of single thing ordered 40 mins back. Moreover, you will not even come to person if he is asking to confirm the time of order.Your staff will just look at the face of person and doesn't give a damn to him. Amazing service standards shown by so called big restaurant. Small restaurants are far better from you guys

This is up there with the one of the worst dining experience ever. I took a group of my friends out for a curry night to Akbars. The dining staff were miserable, think they forgot the working in hospitality. The waiter missed half our starters and blamed on us for not ordering. We had to chase waiters all night to get us drinks. The quality of curry’s was appalling. True butter chicken and biryani lovers please avoid! How can I curry house not make lassi? What a write-off! We quickly paid our bill and got out. Felt embarrassed I took my friends there! Akbars has lost a group of customers.

It was one of the worst meals I have ever had. We were a group of 5 people and we ordered the family naan with their chana and paneer masala, kadhai chicken and dal makhni. The naan was nice, but that does not require any special culinary skills. Chana and paneer masala was the only dish that was edible. Kadhai chicken was basically uncooked chicken in passata, it was horrible, uncooked and sweet. The dal makhni was again something that was not edible, it was extremely sweet and lacked spices (even salt). We had to finish the naans with water and masala onions. The service was extremely poor. We had asked for salt and pepper and the waiter got it after 25+ mins (after repeated reminders) Additionally, the quantity is way less for the prices that are put up. I could barely spot any Asian person or family and now I know why. The majority of positive reviews are by non-Asian people who do not know authentic Indian cuisine. So sad that they advertise they offer authentic Indian cuisine but that is SO NOT TRUE. AT LEAST FOR THIS OUTLET.

Food tasted good the curries had sufficient amount of meat but hardly any sauce to dip the bread in and the portion sizes abit tight for the money, expected better from here, may think twice about returning.

Was seated 30 mins after our booking time. Moved from table to table. Very loud & rushed out. Food not even upto standard either & it cost a fortune. Don't bother just go to your local Indian.

Got moved after our stater next to the service door .got our chairs knocked constantly would only recommend for a casual night out not anything else.

Pros: Excellent ambience and good service. Good staff. Nice location. Right place to celebrate special occasions. Cons: They are already on the expensive side. There is no reason to trap family members in unnecessary accessories and make little more money. We were ready with our order but before my daughter could read out the order, the waiter started tricking her into unnecessary items and was able to add few items. I intervened and stopped him. He had already added small items which are normally offered free in most high end restaurants but to our surprise charged here. For a tiny bowl of chutney which came with Papadam, they charged GBP 2.5. Just waste of money with no value in return. Be careful here and order just what you have decided.

Have had so many Indian takeaways in UK the past 4 years, have never seen such unprofessionalism. Phoned ahead to collect an order and received poppadoms in a takeaway bag this way! Who does that? Seems super unhygienic. At least put it in a paper bag right?

I've heard so much about Akbar's and was disappointed and underwhelmed by both the food which was average and the service which was poor. I've marked it 3* because there isn't an option for 2.5. I ordered the chicken karai and the first piece I ate was very fatty. The whole experience was average but it might just have been a bad night. There were plenty of customers creating a good atmosphere and this was the best part of the experience. I'm happy to give them another go and hopefully it will be more like I expected.

Food was nice 🙂. But i really don't like the service almost every time I visit the restaurant, The employees would never take the attention of the customers and what we asked for. Even today we called the staff so many times to bring some water but they never get us some water which is very disappointing.

Sauce amazing but the meat in both our dishes was very dry and overcooked. Wouldn't go again for this reason.

The service was the strangest I’ve ever experienced. The older man approached us in an awkward and shy manner, and we couldn’t hear him because he was so quiet. We think he asked if we wanted poppadoms with sauces, we said no, he went away, came back and started talking inaudibly to us as he walked around the table. He then proceeded to add poppadoms to the order without asking us, and I had to tell him again we don’t want poppadoms. I nearly left the restaurant in this moment. Nobody should be forced to eat food they don’t want, it’s rude and bizarre. My girlfriend was visibly uncomfortable. I then felt like I had to take control of the service and say what I wanted for drinks and food. Later on when I asked for the bill he kept asking us how much it cost, and didn’t bother to look at the receipt on the table. I get the impression he was trying to insist for a tip, which was completely undeserved. The restaurant had many staff that all looked like they really didn’t want to be there, overall a depressing atmosphere. The food was sound.
