As a first-time experience, I HAVE to say how impressed I am. Excellent service and excellent value. The staff are very good, friendly and accommodating. My son has very specific dietary preferences, and they were very helpful. Highly recommended.

Great Sushi and sashimi but the service is awful. Taken to our table but not offered any water. Server didn't come back to ask for our drink order and eventually came back 10 minutes later and asked if we were ready to order drinks and food. The sever got our food order wrong and took to long to bring out the sake. One server took laps around which was off putting. Best sushi around but I wish waiting staff actually took their job seriously. When I was the age of the waiting staff, the only job I could get was road sweeping but I was the best road sweeper I could be.

I’m an avid Asian food lover and Japanese food is at the top of that list. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with Akasaka MK! Hot rice and sauce dishes and prawn tempura were just okay however, the sashimi, edamame (too hard) and sushi rolls were not good. MK seems to have limited options and this was apparently the best Japanese/korean restaurant in MK. It was my last night visiting with a friend and wanted to have a nice dinner. Very disappointed! Here are details of what we ordered: Edamame (spicy) — too hard and barely seasoned 2/5 Prawn tempura — best item we had 4/5 Hamachi Sashimi — not good 1/5 Prawn tempura roll — terrible tasted stale (ate 1 out of 6 rolls) 0/5 Spicy Chicken with rice — okay 3/5 Seafood fried rice — 3/5 Overall, I would not return or recommend this place!

I'm writing this absolutely stuffed to the most I could be. Went today, Saturday afternoon. We had the beef and pork. The service is great and while the Korean BBQ is on the slightly expensive side of a family meal, it's very good value for money overall. You will be satisfied.

We love Akasaka, but this is the first time we've done the Korean BBQ there. It did not disappoint, with truly fab cuts of meat. The waitress was also very attentive, ensuring the BBQ was kept clean. If there's any negative was with all the BBQs running it got very warm indeed!

Amazing food! Soft shell crab starter is a must. The best sashimi I've eaten in a long time. Service was great; attentive, but not intrusive, friendly, but not over the top (Special mention to our server Abi!). Only gripe was the background music was a little loud, and occasionally intrusive. But when the food and service is this good, I'm prepared to put it down to my advancing years!

Slightly mixed bag, but an overall positive experience. The starters weren't that great. Miso soup was just ok (neutral experience) but the tempura vegetables were much worse than some I had the pleasure eating recently. The pieces were too large and thick and were very hot inside, even after some time, which detracted from the taste. However the subsequent salmon teriyaki was very tasty, and I appreciate the option to choose seafood fried rice as modification. Then the sushi set had very soft and high quality fish and well done rice. The staff was very professional and I enjoyed the overall Japanese atmosphere. I see myself visiting again (and skipping the appetizers).

This will have been my 5th visit, I've always loved it. Unfortunately this time it's a 4 star as the food service was slow. They were very busy mind you. And my prawns were overcooked. They did offer to change the dish, but firstly I'm a pig and will eat it. I also hate to waste food. So we still paid in full, we still tipped. I still recommend it highly, but perhaps go on a weeknight for a better experience.

I Moved to Milton Keynes 5 years ago and I've only just discovered this place. A hidden gem, tucked away beneath office blocks. Only a small sign outside to let you know this place exists but most people will just walk past it. With many options to choose from, they serve Korean/Japanese food which was delicious and the portions are just about right. Staff are professional and polite and the restaurant is very clean. My only negative is that if you dine here during winter and you come in around the opening time, the restaurant is very cold. A small issue but a great first impression overall.

The food is very good. If you want high quality Japanese or Korean food then this is a wonderful place to go. The atmosphere however is lacking. Great lengths have been gone to to create a visually striking restaurant - it looks fantastic. However the this is juxtaposed by the anxious looking wait staff. The moment they walk away from the table their smiles turn to frowns and you can see them gossiping their distain from behind the bar. They're not especially busy, so i'm not claiming they're not attentive, however they do look miserable. You dont have to love or even enjoy your job... But it did take away from the three times i've been to akasaka The food came quickly, our questions were answered about the menu, although there were lots of occupied tables, the ambient noise was low

An amazing restaurant situated in Central MK. From stepping through the doors, Akasaka delivers - with a beautiful bar and pink cherry blossom trees. The staff and service was fantastic exemplary from start to finish. We had the Karage Chicken, Spicy Tuna Rolls and Salmon Maki to start. The Tuna Rolls and Salmon Maki were brilliant, but the Karage chicken a little disappointing. It was the crispiest chicken I have ever eaten, but it wasn’t very flavoursome - even with the dip. We followed this with Beef Bibimbap and Salmon Bibimbap. Both of these were brilliant - the hot beef comes in a searing hot iron bowl and continues to sizzle the whole time you’re eating it! The flavour was fantastic and it was nice to be able to ‘self sauce’ to personal levels. We’ve had takeaway from here before, but will definitely come back to eat in also in the future!

The food was nice when we visited last time two years ago. The teriyaki black cod with rice tasted authentic although the portion was a bit small. However, the quality has gone downhill when we returned again last week. I ordered teriyaki grilled tofu with udon this time. The tofu came out as tempura (fried) tofu, instead of “grilled” as stated in the menu. The whole dish was very greasy and salty. Luckily, the udon was served in a bowl separately. I think they should update the menu. Even those little details are essential especially for those with dietary restrictions or requirements.

Absolutely average restaurant. Dirty bamboo table mats and super dirty windows, kinda sad to look out of them. Impatient service, who under 6 minutes 5 times came back trying to pressure me to take my order. I was confused as I thought it was a restaurant not a fast food place. Silly me who used to live in Japan though the menu is just like there, with pictures. How wrong I was...So getting my phone to have a look at their website, what kinda different that in the restaurant menu card one. When I tried to ask for reconditions, I didn't get any, she just straight away took the last what I asked. The steamed algae was very nice, but my noodle soup was a big surprise, as I have no idea what's roasted (burned) pepper and massive chunks of onions doing there? It's supposed to be sea food, but instead just some burned vegetables scared with frozen octopus, mussels and mini calamari rings poured up with chicken broth. So yeah, kinda disappointing. Drink wise I asked the waitress do they have any tonic water as it isn't listed on the menu card, she looked at me like I am a weirdo. I asked for Roku gin what is my favourite. On the receipt was counted as an extra pound because Japanese. Lol, no comment. Getting the drinks, from other restaurants you get the spirit on the rocks in the glass and front of you they pouring the mixer drink from the mini bottle. Here not, just straight away together as it comes. Oh and don't bother asking without lemon, because you are getting one either way. So Akasaka restaurant did not become my favourite one. Once and last. Easily can be forgotten.

A very mid experience overall, the sushi we got didn't have anything other than the main filling inside (no cucumber etc) and it was quite stodgy because of this. The starters were much better though, the chicken karaage and fried squid were very nice. The atmosphere was strange, it was vaguely Japanese/generally asian inspired but they were playing 2000s emo/rock music? Others at the table enjoyed their food and for some it was their second time going, so it's really a matter of preference.

Atmosphere was beyond perfect. Service was good. Bibimbap was dreadful. Tiny amount of chopped up mushrooms; no spinach, no cucumber. In short, Korean food butchered to suit people who either (a) won’t know any better and/or (b) are too squeamish to push the boat out on cuisine that isn’t beige and stodgy. Seriously, fix your bibimbap pronto—MK has a reasonable amount of foreigners who long for authenticity in cuisines.

Not impressed! We visited on Saturday 10th June, hoping to have a chilled evening, nice food in order to celebrate my son’s birthday. The restaurant was quite busy. The young girl who served us, couldn’t really explain about the food, or answer any questions we had concerning which Saki to try. It was so loud with pumping disco music, we could barely hear ourselves talking. So much for a serene Japanese experience, which is what we were expecting. The food itself, was quite nice, but I wouldn’t visit again.

I've heard so many good things about Akasaka that I went with a friend to try it out recently. The food was really yummy, it's on the expensive side but all of the dishes were tasty and well presented. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and it's a lovely setting for a date. I felt I was a bit unlucky as there was confusion about my booking due to my booking confirmation saying one thing and the system saying another. There was a group of staff all chatting and trying to figure this out, which I understand but I feel it wasn't handled very well as me and my friend were stood waiting like lemons and felt like an inconvenience. After a few moments, one lady did apologise and give us an update and she was very nice. Then throughout the evening, our waitors were very attentive, but I just felt that it was a sort of forced politeness which was a shame, no smiles. This is quite a rare situation I'm sure and it was a bad start due to the booking issue. I just wanted to share so the restaurant can prepare staff to handle this situation in a bit more of customer service friendly approach in the future. Also please consider offering more interesting soft drinks! :) I would recommend a visit still

This was our second visit to Akasaka for dinner. Last time we shared some sushi but then had main dishes each (I had the chicken katsu curry, which was just ok), and although the mains were fine, the sushi was so so much better, so this time we ordered just sushi for our mains, and it was amazing and exactly what we were hoping for! From the appetisers we ordered salty Edemame and the deep fried chicken thighs. Both were lovely, and there was a good sized portion of each! The thighs were incredibly hot, obviously straight out of the fryer, so so be careful! For mains we chose 4 sushi rolls (you get 6 rolls per portion): prawn tempura, soft shell crab, bulgogi and eel. All were amazing, lovely presentation and great sized rolls! The eel was so lovely and was a very close second favourite of the night (if you’ve never had eel you should try it - it’s just a soft and delicate fish (no skin don’t worry and it doesn’t resemble an eel at all), and the pairing of that with avocado in the roll was really spot on!). The soft shell crab was both of our favourite out of the 4 - the crispy crab inside the roll was such a nice sensation to eat, as most sushi rolls tend to be soft rather than crispy so it was lovely that they managed to keep the soft shell crab crispy! The prawn tempura rolls are really really good, and the bulgogi was a first for us - it’s a Korean bbq style beef, very tiny soft pieces in the roll. Very tasty and a nice change from the other rolls that were all seafood. We found 4 portions of rolls (24 total) was plenty to leave us both very full! They average about £10 per portion, so was roughly £40ish for our mains for 2, which I think is great value for such amazing sushi. The appetisers are cheaper than the sushi rolls, I think our chicken thighs were about £6.50 which is great value, and the edemame were £3.50 ish. So all in we spent just over £50 for 2 for 2 courses, and it was very much worth it. The one ‘complaint’ I have is that the drinks, in my opinion, leave a lot to be desired, which is a shame. For alcoholic drinks there are wines, beers and Saki. But no spirits and no cocktails - I feel like the restaurant would do some good trade if they were able to offer some more interesting and varied drinks. The same goes for no -alcoholic drinks - the choices are water, coke, sprite and orange and apple juice I believe. I would’ve liked a mocktail or something a bit more interesting, but as nothing appealed to either of us, we just had water. Which is fine for the cost, but as we’d checked the menu before coming here, we’d known there wasn’t anything appealing to drink, so we had gone to a nearby cocktail bar for our drinks before the meal, as we were celebrating our anniversary and wanted some interesting cocktails and mocktails (I can’t currently drink alcohol). Which is a shame as I would much rather have given the trade (and money) to Akasaka instead. Again, it wouldn’t put me off returning at all - the sushi here is the star of the show! - but it would be nice to have some Interesting drinks here. The restaurant, once you get inside, is nice and cosy, though I do always find the location surprising as it’s basically inside an office block, but it kind of makes it feel a bit like a well-kept secret location! There are pretty pink blossom trees inside with fairy lights and large ceiling lanterns. It’s definitely more casual, but if you were dressed up for a date night, you wouldn’t feel silly either. (The annoying thing about coming in the main entrance is that you have to pass the restaurant Melis, a Turkish restaurant that clearly does a lot of chargrilling, and the smoke from the grill is pumped out and down onto the pavement area where the door to the building to get to Akasaka is. This is nothing to do with Akasaka, but just walking through that thick smoke in 10 seconds made my hair then smell of the smoke all evening. It’s really very bad and I’m surprised MK council ‘allows’ it rather than it being vented upwards and away from people.) Highly recommended!

Popped in for the first time today for a bit of lunch. The food was lovely and the owner was happy to accommodate a selection of options from the menu for my panini. The best bit was that the owner was lovely with my 2 year old who is quite shy to start with and hates seeing people in masks but she really persevered until my little girl was dancing round the table! Oh and the cake & brownies were some of the best I've tasted so I would definitely recommend for a family friendly place to grab lunch.

Had a lovely home made curry. The staff we’re extremely friendly. Also couldn’t get over how spotlessly clean the toilets were. Very enjoyable and reassuring.
