Aix in Haringey

A cold plate tends to make the food on top of it cold. Easily remedied, just heat it up first, and recommended in an expensive restaurant like Aix. Anther easy remedy: have at least a few good but inexpensive wines on the wine list.

Quiet intimate space where we could have a conversation and also eat. Food was delicious - fish, lamb, wine. Service could have been a bit better- waiters should have known more about the provenance of fish and also the wine. But apart from that a thoroughly enjoyable evening

Fantastic food. Fresh ingredients, deep favours and quality produce. However, the table for 2 was way too small. As we had lunch at 3pm, it was deserted. The waiter was efficient, but you felt that you were intruding on his afternoon. Cold, humourless and grudging service. He was too important to serve us. We felt that our presence was a massive inconvenience to them.

We visited this restaurant last evening for dinner and the greeting was ok. We were a family of 3. We were sat at a table and received the menu and after a while the waitress came to take our order. The waiting time for the food was not too long as the place was pretty empty and we called in just after 6pm. The food was nice but nothing too special, the whole dish was drowning in the sauce. The meat was nice but the ratatouille was over cooked and lacking any flavour. We also ordered a bottle of white wine which was served to us without asking if we want to taste it first. Then we received our starters and after our main courses, we were not asked either during or after we finished if everything was ok with the food. The waitress showed a complete lack of interest towards us during the entire evening. We regularly dine at restaurants and we have never experienced such poor customer service. Aside from the complete disinterest the waitress showed us, we were also met with a lack of manners. After we had paid the bill the waitress carelessly tossed our change on the table without even saying "thank you". When we got up to leave and were heading out, no one acknowledged that we were leaving. As my wife was almost at the door she turned around to see if anyone would bother to say "thank you" or at least a "goodbye", another waiter who had not even served us (only came to collect the plates) said a half hearted "thank you". Overall we are utterly appalled with the way we were treated. The fact that they charge 12.5% service charge is a joke for the service you receive. These waiters clearly have no idea how to treat customers. It probably explains why the restaurant was so empty for the whole evening, it tells you something. After reading this restaurants reviews, we thought this would be a nice place to dine but we will not be retuning, this was our first and last time here. We do not recommend this place unfortunately.

Rhubarb and rose tart was my favourite dessert of all time

This cozy restaurant used to be one of our favorite spots in Crouch End for date nights. We always had a soft spot for its ambiance and food. Unfortunately, tonight’s experience was deeply disappointing. The quality of the dishes was noticeably poor. The tasteless soufflé with an odd dressing, the chewy tartare, and the severely overcooked stacked tortellini with mushrooms and cheese at the bottom were all quite shocking. With a new French restaurant opening nearby, we had hoped that the competition would raise the bar, but instead, it seems to have had the opposite effect. Regrettably, we will be removing Aix from our list of go-to restaurants.

Always delicious, this place is a favorite !

Food was on average fine - some bits better than others. I preferred the starters (aperitif platter & scallops) to the mains (rib eye au poivre & aubergine schnitzel). The creme Brulee was as good as any other I've eaten. It may be my tastes aren't sophisticated enough for the place. The wine was good though. I arrived a little earlier than my friend and it took a little time to be offered a drink. But otherwise the service was good.

We had a wonderful birthday celebration here today, eight of us. The atmosphere is always calm and civilised and the food superb. I am baffled by the negative reviews on here for what I have always found to be my favourite restaurant in Crouch End.

Amazing food, excellent service, sublime atmosphere

We had an excellent evening at Aix with an Italian friend, and she was genuinely impressed with it. Delicious food, especially the plaice and the lamb mains, and a warm and relaxing atmosphere. And we could hold a conversation without difficulty! As a person with impaired hearing, I find almost every London restaurant I go to is uncomfortably loud and noisy. This is such a welcome exception. It isn't cheap, ok, but the food is fresh, well cooked and of high quality. And they have the most lovely desserts! The service was attentive without being overbearing. We shall be back.

We were greeted at the door with the most coziest sight, it felt very intimate and we loved it!! Their attention to detail and the service was impeccable. Both our servers were very patient, professional and we didn’t feel rushed at all. Which was very appreciated!! Even when I was trying to find a wine to enjoy with my dinner I didn’t feel like I was bothering anybody, I still didn’t find something I quite enjoyed but I settled on a Pale Rose and kept it flowing. We had ordered the following; Seared Scallops, cauliflower purée & white truffle which I felt were a little undercooked (nothing that made us sick a day later) but to our preference, nonetheless very delicious. We then got the White Prawns, ginger garlic butter, this was so tasty WOW! For our mains, we got the Organic Rump of Welsh Salt-marsh Lamb, rosemary sauce, French beans, gratin dauphinois which was so Delish and flavoursome and we also got the Wild Mushroom and White Truffle Risotto and shaved Parmesan which was delicious too! For dessert we got the Apple Tart Tatin, flambéed with Calvados, with vanilla ice cream, this was so delicious, the pastry was so soft yet crispy and the apples were cooked and seasoned to perfection and the ice cream was paired so perfectly however the Calvados flambé ruined it for us, it was too strong and too much of it, definitely will ask for no alcohol next time! We also wanted to try the Lavender Crème Brûlée however we were there for so long that they ran out for the night haha!! Honestly, this was one of the best meals I’ve had since my trip to Milan. I’ll be glad to visit this place more times in the future! From the service and the food everything was perfect! I just wish there was a wine by the glass that I liked because I most definitely wouldn’t be able to finish a bottle on my own!!

As residents of Crouch End we have frequently visited Aix and have had dependable, consistently good food and a lovely experience. We have enjoyed Aix for both a weekly "date night" and for entertaining out of town guests While we cannot fault the food (which is executed to a high standard) the prices have spiraled-nearly £90/person for a dinner (of which one person had a salad starter and pasta main) is excessive. We had a carafe of house wine and two beers-no expensive drinks or cocktails. Unfortunately the prices of nearly every part of the menu have increased significantly-£30 for bouillabaisse with three mussels and two prawns is excessive by any standard and certainly for Crouch End. The service was also not of the standard we have experienced in the past at Aix and were unfortunately a bit amateur. It seems like Aix are pegging their prices to those of another French restaurant in Crouch End which offers an entirely different dining experience. Please recalibrate so you can retain your local clientele!

Fabulous food especially the Bakedalaska delicious

We live in Highgate, used to come here some 20 years ago, amazing to see how’s it has evolved over the years! Few can contend with this Legend..even in Paris, we struggled to find such a place! The cosy old world atmosphere is second to none! Sensitive service, 💕 Romantic music, candlelight…with a classic cuisine to match! recommend very tender venison filet….And theTarte tatin flambéed with calvados🤗. Looking forward to our next visit soon. Ten out of ten!

Booked a long way in advance for an anniversary celebration. We got a table pushed up against the wall, with both chairs opposite and those sitting in them, facing the wall. Having asked for a different table, the waitress and manager decided to have an unnecessary long debate about it, not appreciating the situation, before agreeing to reseat us. At the end of the night, on paying the bill, there were no apologies or effort to make amends for the situation. On mentioning this, the manager commenced to debate and belittle our concerns, making no effort to make amends. Not a customer service friendly restaurant. Have not been back since. Les 2 Gascon, around the corner, is amazing, much better in every way and has become our go to, ever since.

This bistrot should be officially declared French territory. We tried two different starters, the smoked duck salad and the speck salad, both of which were spectacular. Our mains, that followed managed to live up to the starters. The steak was cooked to perfection while the venison loin was a firework of a complex combination of flavours. Finally, the raspberry crème brûlée was the perfect ending to our lovely meal. A twist to a classic that I never knew I needed in my life.

Gabriella was great helping us choose drinks and her recommendations were spot on, and added the right amount of humour and glamour to our experience. Linton made me feel welcome and was attentive to our needs, especially with our food choices. Because of them I am sure I will become a regular!

Truly Delicious meal partridge cooked with figs hazel nuts and cabbage and very tasty sauce marvellous combination followed by a perfect apple tart and ice cream

Good local French restaurant, good service, and good quality of food.

We had a beautiful meal here the other night. The rabbit leg and lamb are very flavorful especially when paired with a glass of Boudreaux. Highly recommend if you are craving a high quality French meal! For dessert I recommend the chocolate fondant - to die for.

I chose the 3 courses for £29 - there was only 1 option per course, but things I would have chosen anyway. Starter- goats cheese soufflé Main - sea bass and potato Dessert - cream and fruit flaky pastry The staff were attentive and great, and atmosphere was good and the company amazing!

Aix is superb — the food, the service, and the atmosphere are all truly excellent. And consistently so. It’s a real pleasure to have such an exceptional restaurant in the neighbourhood — a true culinary jewel.

Bistro-Aix tends to be our 'go-to' North-London restaurant for special occasions through out the year. The welcome is warm and the atmosphere calming whilst also convivial. However, it's the food which is the main draw:- the seasonal menu is varied, and always incorporates many appealing options (including vegetarian options). I have to say, that on all visits, I've never experienced a dish which was anything less than delicious.

We came to Bistro Aix for my partners birthday. Very romantic and atmospheric. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and were mistakenly brought over two glasses, when I said we would like a bottle instead they offered the first two glasses on the house. The prawns starter was particularly lovely. They also brought over a scoop of ice cream for his birthday when we said we were too full for a proper dessert. Can’t wait to come back- thank you!

Great local bistro that has been going for years.

We've lived in Crouch end for 21 years, AIX continues to serve excellent food, weekends are always booked out. During lockdown they offered take out, pick up only and ordered in advance, what a treat, fine dining at home, truly a delight. A welcome break from cooking. The food is always very good, full of flavour and presented so nicely. We will always return or more AIX culinary dishes.

Had lunch here with 2 friends yesterday - absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish ...the staff were very friendly and helpful; the food was divine and we weren’t rushed ! Will definitely be back !

I have been to Aix on a couple of occasions now and each time left feeling like I had experienced something special. I grew up near Aix-en-Provence and finding this place gives me a sense of comfort. I recently took my girlfriend there for our anniversary and she was very pleased. We shared between us a sumptuous steak with a rich pepper sauce, tender lamb, creamy pomme dauphinoise and silky ratatouille. The atmosphere was lovely and a young waiter served us with a smile. My only criticism was the wine was pretty expensive but we were really just there for the food. Merci Aix, et à la prochaine!

Looking for a new restaurant we had not tried with an old friend visiting. Aix was a real eye opener as the food was splendid with quick friendly service. We had several bottles of great wine from a good selection and will certainly be visiting again soon.

The front of the restaurant is lovely, very french bistro style, lovely lighting and atmosphere. However we were shown to the back which had a slight damp smell and is a bit grubby and dingy. The manager was friendly and the young bus boy was very attentive, rest of the staff were generally a bit offish. The food was ok but not as amazing as I was expecting after reading the reviews. They were busy but everything was under seasoned and underwhelming, just very average. I would say is that the ice cream was exceptional but definitely give the cream brulee a miss. The bill was huge, 3 corses and 2 bottles of wine for 4 people £390, which is ok for amazing but expensive for just average.

Living in France has its challenges, but one of the joys (if you are like me) is the ease of finding, almost anywhere outside of the capital, a cozy, wonderfully Bourgeois place to sit down and devour lovely, traditional French food, with a nice linen napkin on your lap, served with discreet charm, all prepared with professionalism and skill.Such places are hard to find in London. But at least now you know where one of them is. If you crave the authentic French experience, make your way to Bistro Aix. It's like coming home to Maman.

Lovely place with very friendly and helpful staff. Food was good if not quite excellent. The foie gras starter was very good, the pork belly was good, and my partner's lamb tender and tasty. Good wine choice.

Superb Sunday lunch! Met at the door by soothing piano music and a friendly face: this, compared to the conversation killing throb of ear bleeding din that was pumped into the Duck & Rice in Soho the night before, was an absolute delight. The interior of Aix Bistro is pleasingly formal but relaxed: the murals - beautiful colours which whisk the mind’s eye immediately out of Crouch End and off to somewhere warm and convivial - the curtains, lighting, dark panelled wood, white table cloths and lay out of this charmingly intimate space are all absolutely lovely, and cohere to set just the right tone. I dined on a rich and creamy vegetable tart, with sublime fries and French beans. My partner and his parents had the Sunday roasts - all were deeply satisfied with their choice. A lovely bottle or red, followed by toffee ice cream and Armagnac soaked prunes. Throughout lunch I felt relaxed, utterly transported; I longed to able to speak fluent French and have a little more room for cheese – no matter, next time.

Excellent food in an elegant space with friendly service. What more could I want?! This was a very special birthday meal, and I've found a new favourite local restaurant.

Chinese whispers can be dangerous. A while ago someone told me that they had heard that Bistro Aix was only for ancient people obsessed with Coq Au Vin and white tablecloths. It took a friend of my daughter's to confound this nonsense and point out that all ages and sensibilities will feel comfortable there. So I am happy to give a big thumbs up to one of N8's continuing institutions - welcoming, professional, and serious about its food without being up itself pretentious. Crouch End is unforgivingly competitive for restaurants, and to survive and thrive like this place is an accolade.

Wonderful restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere for a pre Christmas catch up with friends. The food and wine were excellent. The only small criticism was that one of our party's chicken portion was on the very small side. Apart from that, thoroughly recommend.

The food and service were really good and I will definitely go back to this restaurant. We ate in the back area and my only complaint was that is was pretty noisy which made it difficult for my elderly father to hear any conversation.

Four of us sat down to what turned out to be a first class meal. None of us had eaten at Bistro Aix before. We all ordered different dishes for each course, and we all oohed and aahed over each dish . It was a busy Saturday evening, and the restaurant was full, but the staff ensured that everything ran smoothly and professionally.

We regularly visit this place for reasonable priced nice meal. We went there for my husband birthday lunch with group of six and enjoyed Sunday roast. Beef was Sirloin, tender and meaty. Lamb was cooked to perfection. We had glass of presecco and cake on the house. What could you ask more.

Cosy local French bistro. Fantastic food well presented. I had partridge my husband had confit duck both great. Followed by excellent tarts tatin with home-made ice cream. Absolument yummy!

Have been here on numerous occasions and found that the menu seemed smaller than the last time I was here which was about a year ago. I always remembered the onion soup being the best around, but not in this occasion a much smaller bowl and was mostly bread that filled this bowl, not how I have had it in the past., a disappointment. The vegetables seem to be smaller portions as well, the food is good however but not wow as previous occasions. Still though good value for money.

Delicious food, perfectly cooked. It's not cheap, but it's French cooking at its best. The lady who showed us to our table was not friendly, but the other waitress who waited on our table was lovely. I'd definitely go again.

A real find of a local restaurant with a classy atmosphere - great food and wine, and good service. I've eaten here twice and enjoyed both visits. The only caveat came from my vegetarian Sister who felt the veggie dishes weren't quite as exciting as those for us meat eaters.

We went to this restaurant on our anniversary and were blown away by the variety and quality of food. I could not fault it. Fresh ingredients and cooked perfectly. The staff were very professional and friendly. Worth every penny. The atmosphere was very relaxing. Will definitely come again to try the wine tasting on a Wednesday.

Exceptional standards at this lovely restaurant. From the starters to desserts everything was delicious and well presented. In addition all the food is organic which was a pleasant surprise. We justed moved into the area and will certainly come often. I had roast chicken and veg with black garlic sauce - I could eat this every night! The atmosphere is so relaxing with classical music playing in the background and beautiful paintings- This is really a unique place. Congratulations Bistro Aix!

That was exceptional! We all got stuffed but could not stop eating because everything was so delicious. Wine list is incredible. Fantastic desserts with specialties that are flambéed with spirits at the table. This is seriously one of a special place that Is not easy to find. Organic products make most part of the menu. Wild fish and meat of incredible quality cooked to perfection. Interior design with real paintings all around, candle light. Beautiful atmosphere and great service. I think is the best in North London and I speak from experience.

On a rare date night we chose to eat out at Bistro Aix and had a lovely evening. We shared the duck croquettes and parma ham & fig salad to start - both of which were very good. Then my husband had the roast lamb rump with ratatouille & gratin potatoes (excellent) while I opted for the most delicious rib eye steak, cooked to perfection and so tasty, with frites and a blue cheese sauce. To finish we shared the tarte tatin and the toffee icecream with pecans and honeycomb plus well-paired dessert wines. All together a lovely evening, we left stuffed & well satisfied.
