AHAR in North Tyneside

I’ve loved Bangladeshi food for most of my life. I grew up on it, I’ve tried so many places and never had such a consistent and wonderful experience as I have going to Ahar. Fiz the owner is a superb host and the restaurant is a warm and welcoming place, for solo visits or with friends and family. I’ve never had a meal that wasn’t brilliant here but tonight I think I reached Valhalla. The lamb mustard bhuna might just be the best curry I’ve ever eaten. The difference with Ahar is in the details. Authentic food, real charcoal tandoor oven and the best ingredients. Why are you wasting your time going anywhere else, this should be your only port of call.

Love this place! Anytime we are down visiting from Scotland we always find time for a visit. Thursday night is tapas night and well worth a visit then. Fiz is a great host and the food is absolutely spot on! From memory we went for the Chicken tikka pathia, lamb Roshan and chicken adrack. Perfectly cooked dishes: chicken is moist and cooked within the sauce so you taste both the chicken and the sauce perfectly. Great pint of Kingfisher served here as well!

We were the last people in the restaurant. We'd booked a table for 9 pm. The older waiter had a very dirty shirt on & practically threw the food dishes down anywhere on the table despite telling us what each dish was & us saying that it was our food. There were 6 of us so to put a dish down at the other end of the table wasn't helpful. I asked the man if he was in a bad mood & he just laughed & said thankyou! The food wasn't great, hardly any sauce with at least 2 of the dishes & my brother in law was very sick in the night which we are suspecting must have been the food as he had only had a couple of drinks as we'd gone out late. Consequently we didn't leave a tip, I just felt they wanted to serve us & close the restaurant. It wasn't a pleasant experience & we won't be going back.

Great night great food very helpful staff 11 in our group no issues very happy it’s not a curry house where you go after a heavy nights drinking it where you go to enjoy a great meal in a great place loved it

We popped in without a reservation and staff were so helpful squeezing us in on a busy night. The food was absolutely delicious, so much so that we were already planning our next visit there on the walk home. I can’t recommend it enough, definitely our new favourite in Whitley Bay.

This restaurant is without a doubt the best of the 4 I visited when I was on holiday in whitleybay.. the food was that good I brought the leftovers back home with me to Glasgow. We got takeout, tandoori mix grill keema & 🐔 tika curry with keema nan & rice along with seek kebab starter. This was without a doubt the best Indian food I've eaten in many years. We have visited here a few times now and have been super impressed with the quality and service provided. We are pretty picky with Indian/Bangladeshi food as there are so many average ones in the North East. We have had a range of main meals from here and all packed full of the right spice from madras to jalfrezi. Also the service is always spot on, keep up the good work !!

Although I have been here a few times recently I do not get fed up with it. The food remains excellent, the atmosphere great and the staff very helpful. This restaurant is at the other end of town from most curry houses but is well worth the diversion. Book as places are limited

Visited the restaurant last Saturday, it was a fabulous meal served by very friendly staff. We have the sharing platter for 2 as a starter (between 4 of us) the Lamb Jalfrezi was also delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant

Booked 6 weeks prior to our visit. Confirmed via Facebook messenger. Restaurant had no record of our reservation. Refused to find us a table. Did not apologise. Kicked us out onto the street. Very unprofessional, poor service. Do not recommend.

This restaurant has to be one of Whitley Bay’s finest. We were there last night and the food was superb, tasted divine,we couldn’t finish it all.Service and staff were impeccable, so efficient, polite and friendly. Will be back hopefully on a more regular basis.

Fantastic place great staff and great food will definitely be back at some point. Back in Whitley Bay middle of August so will probably be back for some more great food.

Was tempted here to try the tapas menu (even with a distinct lack of online presence) as the price looked great however the food was average at best and the service had no smile.

Visited here prior to going to the playhouse. The staff were lovely and friendly and attentive without being overbearing. When the food arrived my plate was quite dirty from curry not being washed properly from previous use. Although this was very visible I had to point it out to the waiter and request a clean plate. The curry was tasty, and was recommended by the staff member taking our order. However the luke warm frozen chips spoilt it. Im used to getting home made chunky chips from Indian restaurant.

Sick and tired of writing good reviews for Fizz and team. Been coming here for years : now they have upped their game and food is even better than usual. One of my tapas favourites on the main menu. They used to say do you really want broad beans with lamb but after they tried it they agreed. Brought a friend born in Hyderabad who could not stop saying how good the food was. Service was exemplary as usual. Spotless as usual. Great taste as usual. Sorry for banging on but you will enjoy.

We came here as this has become our favourite Indian in whitley , great service in a small friendly restaurant , we ordered straight away and the food didn't take long to arrive , starters of mixed kebabs , poppadoms and pickles and then mains of King prawn balti and a lamb botti , rice and naans completed the meal , we left very stuffed and very happy , at about £60 for 2 people it's very reasonable , we came on a quiet night so we didn't pre book but I would always advise to do so 😀

Came here last night with my husband, food and service second to none! Cant wait to come back! We hadn't booked a table but the lovely gentleman kindly accommodated us. The staff were so attentive but not overbearing. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family!

Booked a table for two on a Friday. I've ate here before and always recommend it as the best place for curry in the area however I would go as far as to say its the best meal you can get in the area. The quality of the food and the flavour, you can tell these ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality. I had the wings and my gf had the tikka salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the wings had so much flavour and the great authentic tandoori taste. For mains my gf went for balti badami and I went for a naga based lamb curry (can't remember the name). The lamb fell apart as I ate it. My gf asked for her curry to be a little hotter and they were happy to accommodate to her taste as every dish is cooked to order. The service, as always was of the highest standard and well run by the owner who you can tell has a passion for what he does. Very reasonably priced for such quality, if you have never been, I 100% recommend if you want to experience great food. I can't wait to visit again. 10/10

The Ahar never ever fails to deliver quality food and service! Staff are very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu and unlike my husband who always orders the chicken balti as he swears it remains THE best in the country , I like to try different dishes and after enquiring about a couple of the fish curries, , I chose the dish from Bengal and I was very grateful for the recommendation. This curry was seriously delicious ! Fresh , complex flouvours and all round exquisite taste ! Thank you Ahar ! You never disappoint!!

Ate here with my sister following good reviews on trip advisor. We were disappointed. The chicken dansak was really poor. Very runny with no lentils to view and no taste. The tikka fared better and was tasty.

Always our first choice takeaway for Indian food and first class service. Tonight we had another delicious and high quality meal. Any requests for modifications were perfect and the food arrived promptly with a smile. As a family we are so looking forward to getting back to eating in the restaurant from 17th May. All my family from 0-90 are fans. Wouldn’t go anywhere else! Best biryani anywhere!!

We are not normally ones for takeaways but having had a few sit in meals prior to Covid I was optimistic that the takeaway meals would be the same quality and I certainly wasn't disappointed.We pushed to boat out and had it delivered and it arrived on time and was pipping hot.Portions were substantial and the taste were top quality.

Great food. Easy to order and they call you when ready. 45 wait for food. Nip down and pick up. All great and will be going back.

Excellent meal. Channa Chat, Paneer Jalfrezi, Taka dhall and egg pilau for me and Onion Bhaji, Chicken Tikka main, Bhindi aloo mirch baigon and puris for Trace. What stands out a mile for us is the quality of the ingredients and the standard of the cooking. All top class. There's nothing we can do about the virus restrictions, but Feroz and the staff are doing a great job at keeping our curry addiction fed. A very safe and well organised environment and excellent value for money.

The thalis are delicious and great value. As some of our family are veggie we order a mix of meat and veggie thalis and you get a good range of dishes. Very highly recommended.

We’ve been coming to the Ahar for years; their food has always been reliably tasty, with quality and great customer service guaranteed; getting takeaway during lockdown has been no different! We’ve had several takeaways over lockdown and we can always trust the food will be timely and delicious, and our meal tonight was no exception! The customer service, from calling our order in over the phone to picking up the food, was exceptional, and our meal was outstanding. We will always them to always deliver a 10/10 ahar experience, in person or at home!! ❤️

Excellent food as always. Really impressed by their pandemic takeaway service. Phone ordering, ring back when ready and only only one person allowed into the Restaurant to collect. Staff masked up and remain segregated from customers by table barrier. Well done however can’t wait to dine in with you when this madness is over

What is the government doing, forcing well run Covid secure restaurants such as this to close?. We booked immediately after the latest "expert pronouncement", shutting eat in restaurants, for the last evening of (relative) freedom to show our support. What a lovely night and thanks again, Fiz. Totally safe, excellent food, attentive and friendly staff. They are still doing takeways and deliveries at present but we can't wait for the reopening, and some sensible action from HM Govt, to whom we pay taxes and whose "advice/guidance/instructions" we have followed absolutely during this Covid thing, to sort this shambles out.

This evening we phoned in an order for a takeaway at 6:20pm and were told it would take 60 mins but they would phone us before hand to let us know it was ready to pick up. At 7:40 we still hadn't heard anything so rang again and were told the meal would be ready in 5 mins and they would ring us to let us know when ready. At 8pm we still hadn't heard anything so i rang again. They said the meal was ready to pick up. On the way to collect, i received another call to say it was ready. When i got home, the chicken biryani didn't have a sauce and the food was almost cold and the popadoms were soggy as if the takeaway had been standing for ages. I rang back about the missing sauce and they offered to deliver but it wouldn't be until the delivery driver had returned. As it was 8:30 and we'd already waited long enough, that wasn't an option. They gave me a code to get money off the next time but i will think twice about going back. They obviously can't cope with the orders they're taking but instead of limiting them, they're obviously stretching themselves which is impacting the customers. Not ideal!

When I lived in the area I used to eat here regularly over nearly 20 years. It was always very good. I decided to try it again after a lengthy absence. Spotlessly clean.Faultless service, and I couldn't fault my meal. I must have eaten at hundreds of Asian restaurants right across the globe in my career ranging from truly terrible to superb.I had Goanese chicken for my main dish. Chicken with spices, cashew nuts, spinach and cream. What a magnificent dish! Balance of flavours just right. Whilst different dishes appeal to different people - I would return just to try this one again.Small cosy restaurant that deserves a 5* rating!

Went for our second visit, this time during lockdown. The restaurant was set up very covid secure , with very good spacing / dividers between tables and we saw the staff using disinfecting the chairs and table thoroughly after each customer.The food was amazing, we went from the chefs recommendations section then asked the staff to pick us two dishes.We had lamb kebab and paneer with spinach to start. Then two lamb dishes. We had a good chat with the owner at the end , keep up the good work!

We picked this restaurant purely by chance and I am so pleased we did. The food was absolutely delicious. I'm a vegetarian and I get really frustrated with the veggie option being an after thought, not here. Plenty of options and different styles of dish. Really, really good curry house. We have visited regularly and have found the standard to be high every time. Menu always evolves, service always attentive and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

We have been visiting the Ahar for years and they just seem to get better and better. Very professional set up during COVID restrictions; table spacing, disposable menus etc. Lovely friendly team. We would highly recommend a visit.

Throughout Lockdown - when available we have had a takeaway from Ahar and it was excellent so felt it only right to dine in when they reopened Brilliant authentic flavours, beautifully fresh, genuine attention and great efficient service. We'd highly recommend the Lamb and King prawns in Dupiaza and madras - just wonderful.

Went here a couple of weeks ago got the social distancing down to tea service was great and the meal was the best we had in months absolutely brilliant

Had my first meal out with a friend today and as always Ahar was superb with having some food allergies they always give good advice and I even tried the tandoori mixed grill. The chicken was amazing. Would highly recommend Ahar for a meal and they do takeaway.

All of the dishes that we ordered were delicious and presented nicely. There were many different dishes to choose from as well as a good selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. All of the restaurant staff were friendly and polite which made the meal even more enjoyable. Both the bathroom and main dining area were also very clean. Overall, it was an excellent meal and I would recommend a visit to this restaurant.

The highest quality Indian cuisine - delivered right to my doorstep Definitely one of the positives to come from "lockdown"! As an avid chilli fan - I was drawn to the Ghost rochun mirch with its naga sauce & bullet chillies & it most certainly did not dissapoint...more like dissappear! Beautifully cooked spring lamb & followed by the punch from the naga & bullet chillies in a beautifully tasting sauce.. Kudos to the kitchen

Just like to say a big Thank You to Fiz & the team. This is our favourite restaurant and look forward to when we can be back but in the meantime we have absolutely loved our takeaway meals & so has my mother-in-law who has been on her own since lockdown. At these difficult times it’s lovely to have something to look forward to to make life slightly normal. The food is always delicious, hot & tasty, the collection system is brilliant, keep up the good work.

During these difficult times, myself and a small group of key workers decided to celebrate a colleague's birthday with a take out meal. There was little discussion as to where to go as we all enjoy the service and excellent food provided by Ahar. It is in my view the best curry house in Whitley Bay and prior to the lockdown my favourite restaurant in the town where the food, service and staff attention above expectations. On collecting the food I was glad to see staff had adapted to the current situation and had adhered to the regulations and accomodated social distancing. They rang me when ready, allowed me to enter and processed contactless payment. Then came the food, it was of an exceptional standard and up to fine dining standards. I opted for the new Ghost Roshun Mirch with onion pilau rice. It was hot as described but not overwhelming and the lamb meat was tender and delicious. The sauce was thick and mopped up with a plain naan absolutely delicious. The only thing missing was the absence of the usual friendly banter of staff. I would highly recommend this local business and encourage anyone to give it a go and support the local business which will be finding current trading a challenge.

Ordered starters and mains as celebrating wedding anniversary. Rang and ordered, the restaurant rang us back when ready and we collected. Staff maintained social distancing and hand wash available. Wow, food was hot and tasty.A always been our favourite restaurant, excellent as always.

We frequently dine in the restaurant but because of the Coronvirus that's not possible at the moment. However, the takeaway service has resumed and we are SO PLEASED.We ordered a takeaway on my birthday and the pick up arrangements were very easy and safe. It takes about 30 mins and you are telephoned to say the food is ready. Contactless payment and a little table at the door to pick the order up from. No going in to the restaurant.How wonderful to be able to enjoy Ahar's lovely food once again, would recommend to everyone. Staff efficient and helpful, food just as good as ever. The only downside was having to do the washing up at home!!Thanks again to Fiz and colleagues for getting the whole thing going again and we hope you have a good stream of grateful customers. So delighted when Ahar decided to deliver. We took down the date and rang as soon as it opened to order. After 45 minutes, exactly as told, the food arrived. Totally delicious as always. Will be the first of many.

Local classy and tasty - the Ahar delivers quality food you can rely on so we will be back again We tried it on Valentine’s Day and it was very busy.

Went here on a Thursday night, when they do a “tapas night” which gives you starter, 2 mains, side, rice and nan. We arrived without a booking and were given a table straight away.The service was excellent, food and tastes great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The staff were very polite and genuinely interested in making sure we had an enjoyable experience.Will be a regular visitor here.

We was visiting our daughter who lives near the restaurant as she said she has had a few takeaways from this restaurant so we gave it a try, we ordered 4 poppadoms and a pickle tray a mix starter for two,a Lamb Pathia,a Spinach dish and two tandoori roti’s everything is cooked fresh in this restaurant and the staff take a lot of pride in what they do great tasting food.

We booked for New Years Eve 7.30p.m. It's quite a small restaurant so it gets very busy at the best of times. We didn't realise there was a set menu costing £34.95 with a choice of 3 or 4 dishes for starters and mains. It makes sense as the turnover per table must have been quite high throughout the evening. The staff as usual were attentive, quick and the food was as excellent as usual. At no time did we feel hurried or rushed.

The food here is great! We were all very happy with our meals and we had a fabulous time. It may not be modern and sparkling like some of the other local restaurants but if you want very tasty food at a reasonable price this take some beating.

We popped in without booking and were very lucky to get a table as even on a Tuesday night it was busy. Local people soon filled up the place as it has such a good menu and reputation. We ordered Tandoori chicken , a lamb curry, aloo gobi and rice. The meals are individually cooked to perfection so be patient, it’s worth the wait.
