Agra Tandoori Restaurant in Kingston upon Thames

Tables are a little close together - but it was pleasant and the food very good. Varied menu with a wide range of dishes for vegetarians and meat eaters. Excellent onion bahji - it really stood out above others I have had.

One of the best tandoori curry houses setting the standard,the decor is great blast from the past makes you feel you stepped back in time to the good old days of uk curry houses.

Monday night is probs not a great night to go . Food was awful, the chief was very heavy handed with the salt in the Tarka dhal and tandoori chicken ( did tell the manager , he blamed it on the ready made sauce they use ) Maybe changed ownership . Whatever the situation what was a great restaurant is passable

We have been frequenting this restaurant for over twenty five years. It is a traditional 1970’s style Indian restaurant. Both the front and back of house staff have worked there for over thirty years. We have yet had any cause to complain.

Husband and I had a lovely lunch here yesterday. Excellent quality food. Good wine menu. First class service. What more could one want.

Absolutely never again, was sceptical after reading the other reviews but I should have listened. Food was terrible definitly not authentic whatsoever more like microwave served on a plate - was given complimentary popadoms on arrival but then after complaining about my food the complimentary disappeared and there was a £5 charge for 2Popadoms!!! … save your money and stay home and cook. Don’t support this foolishness.

After ordering this food, I am currently sick. So we ordered cheesy naan this was stale and they slapped cheese on the top and microwaved it, peshwari naan just about eadable, chicken tikka masala this was by far the most disgusting thing I've tasted to date. This felt like it was store bought and served, and usually, it's a lovely bright redish colour. This looked like a yellow baby poo colour tasted worse than if looked. Pilau Rice, now this was so dry 😩 it felt like I'd been walking in the Sahara for day with no water. I was glad I had ordered a juice. Bombay Aloo had no taste at this point. I wanted to scream WTF.. it gets worse... After explaining to the staff how terrible the food was. I asked for the bill, and they were willing to remove the masala, and after a few polite words were exchanged, they removed the slapped on cheesy naan. They decided to charge me £5 for the "free" poppadoms they gave at the start, and everything has seemed more expensive in price. I really wished I had taken photos to document my experience. I had just never had such an ordeal where everything I ate was nasty. After getting home, I am currently writing this review from the toilet. I've been home for about 2 hours, I can't move.

After 38 years and always loving The Agra as my favourite Indian , I’m sad to say that will be my last visit. It started out badly , a rude waiter bringing two large Cobra beers , we didn’t ask for large , didn’t make a fuss. The problem I have , is that when you order 3 naan breads , why do they now arrive cut into uniform small pieces , I believe they were salvaged leftovers from other diners! The naans were always a highlight here. The Tandoori butter chicken served in a white China dish dish was stringy and no real whole pieces of chicken with the skewer wholes showing it had seen a tandoor oven. I’m heavily suspicious that other diners leftovers are being stored up and re served. The chicken Dhansak was just ok , but not a patch on how it used to be. The onion bajhi served with no lemon and the pilau rice was cold . This place was an absolute jewel and it’s lost its way and our custom.

All food is very delicious! One of the best Indian restaurants in London without a doubt!! Highly recommend!!

A real blast from the past traditional Indian restaurant in every way. Been going here on and off for forty years. Popped in for lunch today. Great food and excellent service as always. Highly recommended.

Very busy and we hadn't booked but luckily they managed to find a table for two. The food was excellent and after we left I was very grateful to the waiter who came outside to find us with my glasses that I had left on the table - thank you!

Lovely place to eat in or take away. We have been ordering food here for years - staff is always lovely and polite. Everything in the menu is delicious - our favourite is the lamb bhuna with some garlic naan. Totally recommend for a cosy dinner!

Warm welcome from staff who were friendly and attentive. I love the 70s retro decor - pls down change it! We had the tandoori chicken sizzler and jalfrezi. A great local, will be back!

Birthday Curry , 44 years of eating here.

The food overall was good, but was not warm enough when we went to eat it at home, we have never had this experience from this restaurant before, which was very disappointing.

Me and my partner has lived here for 8 yrs and just found this restaurant and it's now going to become our local Indian restaurant as the atmosphere is good, food is great and the owner took time to talk to us. Loved highly recommended

Extremely unwelcoming staff. Rude service. Had to keep calling multiple times for everything. Took 15 mins for a glass of tap water to come on the table. Felt sick after eating food from here

The waiters were very rude and spoke in an inaudible manner. The food was stated as medium however it was bland. Not a great Indian restaurant as the food is average and overpriced.

Our regular haunt for 30 years or so...tried the Chicken Methi Vindaloo heat last night and was probably best Indian dish I've ever had. Compliments to the Chef!

Best Indian Restaurant around, fantastic food and friendly service

Leave them wanting more ! Fantastic restaurant, even though it's always busy the staff are helpful , cheerful and attentive. Food is great with all the regular and some less common dishes. Well worth a visit. Do try and book, gets very busy.

Straight forward Restaurant. I’d I’ve preferred more spice considering I ordered a ‘medium’ but short waiting time and service was fine.

Been going here for years, no one comes close as far as I am aware to the quality. Always tender lamb and chicken.

Food outstanding, especially our vegetarian meals, the meat eaters in our group also agreed. Staff so very friendly but room a little damp and cold.-it was a winter night,but lads, fire up the heating at least a half an hour before opening.

We went to the Agra on a Monday evening. It was over half full which, when many restaurants near where I live don't even find it worthwhile opening on Sunday through to Wednesday, shows how popular it is. The food is what I'd call traditional, old-style Indian food - nothing fancy, just decent sized portions well cooked and served with impressive speed. The service was good, food very tasty, prices very reasonable and we'd happily return.

The taste in general was below the average of all Indian restaurants I tried in London. They also push you to order papadoms the second you sit down, before giving the menu. Not a pleasant experience overall.

Quick attentive service, clean nice atmosphere, reasonably priced and great portion size but oh my goodness! So bland! My Nan could’ve made a tastier curry - no taste to any thing!

Ordered a lamb Rogan, sag paneer and rice. Meat was nice and soft and that's about it. Lacked any flavour or spice. The sag Paneer, was blitzed spinach, loaded with too much garlic and onion. Wasnt the best. Portion sizes were good enough and I'm stuffed. Cheers.

Absolutely terrible service: Waiter 2 hours for a delivery for the gentleman to turn around and keep telling me 5 minutes. NEVER EVER USE THESE!

I’ve never had such an appalling experience! We had ordered, and part of the order (or so we thought) arrived so me and my partner started eating. Mid dish I ask my partner if this is what we ordered as it did not seem like our order but I did not want to make a scene and just ate. They then came to our table and started apologising as we had received another table’s order. All the remaining food was then promptly taken away and our right order came. They did ask if we wanted all of our order or just partly to which I said that a starter will no longer be needed. However they then brought us the full order anyway. When we wanted to pay, they wanted us to pay the full 2 bills. 1 We did not fully eat the other order. 2 It baffles me you want to charge for a mistake that was made by yourselves. We ended up paying for 1,5 orders as it wasn’t so much about the money but in my opinion you can’t charge for a mistake YOU have made. Me and my partner had intially agreed to leave a good tip to cover for the food had they not decided to charge for it all. I would certainly not recommend nor ever come back!

I used to say this was the best Indian takeaway I'd ever had, but it has gone downhill and this last meal was the worst I'd ever had so I will not be ordering from Agra again.

The Pappadoms were stale, the Lamb (probably Mutton) Passanda was really chewy and tough, some of my Chicken Tikka pieces were chewy and rubbery. The Agra seems to have gone downhill.

I have lived in Surbiton all my life and live very close to this restaurant but never been in it until today. Amazed at how good it is. Had chicken tikka masala which was very good. Service also very good

Constant invasive questions from the male staff about where we lived and worked. Very unprofessional. Food good but would not recommend eating in the restaurant if you are a group of girls.

Regular patron of Agra and I rarely get let down..will increase the spice of any curry if you ask politely and will even make quality recommendations if you fancy something new. It’s an intimate restaurant with low lighting for a quality curry house atmosphere, but I usually get a takeaway which is roughly ready to collect within 15 mins of ordering. Would definitely recommend.

Tha Agra was our 1st choice for an Indian , unfortunately last night we booked a table for four my Wife and I got there first , we only just got in seats , waiter asked did we want to order drinks , starters we said we will wait for the others . The food was really really excellent , but the service we received was very rushed , as soon as a plate was finished it was removed . The dessert menu was plonked on the table before every had finished theirs meals . It seemed as they wanted the table quickly even though plenty of other empty tables , very unwelcoming and made us uncomfortable

Lamb biriyani - lots of lamb, good size portion, veg curry too but Biriyani seriously lacking in flavour,, super bland, veg curry was similar super bland. Tandoori mixed grill was ok but not to expectation. The lamb Patia, good size portion, spicy gets a three and a half star rating. Been once before and was impressed hence a return but this time around disappointed, sorry guys.

I have been visiting The Agra for 36 years and it’s still my favourite Curry House. It has the right feel and the food is just delicious. Eat in or take away is always spot on. Well done staff .

Very good traditional Indian restaurant.

Food was very good, however experience was spoilt by very rushed service (in/out in 50 mins) e.g as soon as I ate my last bite all the plates were taken away and I wasn’t asked if I wanted to finish some of the other plates. Enjoyable dinner overall, but felt that they wanted us out quickly.

Read so many reviews so decided to try this place. When We entered and before We could settle down at the table with the kids, I was asked 02 times by the waiter if I need poppadoms, no menu was provided before asking. So reluctantly I said okay thinking it might be complimentary. And I didn’t mind paying even if it wasn’t complimentary. Along with the poppadoms came chutney, pickle and yoghurt (again I wasn’t asked If I needed it) . My kids don’t eat any of that. We ordered butter chicken, lamb pathia, chicken tikka and naans. Lamb pathia was very tasty, tikka was average but the butter chicken was a yellow gravy more like a korma. The worst butter chicken we have ever had. When the bill came, I was surprised that they charged me £9 for the poppadoms, I was told that the chutney was £4.5 and £ 4.5 for the pappads. We suggested to the waiter that next time they need to ask the customers before bringing it as not everyone wants to have it but he made us feel as if it was about the money rather than the wastage of food on the table! Left from there very disappointed

Fantastic, fabulous, first class traditional Indian restaurant. Have been coming here for years along with many of my friends. The food, service and hospitality is second to none. Also great value for money. Gets very, very busy Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings book to avoid disappointment. The staff know their stuff inside out and always encourage me to try new dishes, it's just simply a wonderful evening out.

Just got back from eating at Agra. Everything was amazing as always. The food was so good this evening, just felt like i had to write a review. Tonight we had the chicken pakora, prawn patia, lamb madras and on the waiters suggestion, we had the paneer sizzler, which was so tasty. Poppadoms and paratha was also great. Staff are always polite and welcoming, and its always busy, with a nice atmosphere. Brilliant place, unchanged for years...which is the best bit

The food was tasty, well portioned and nicely priced. The environment lovely and we felt so comfortable. But above all the service was magnificent. Very friendly but also professional. It was our first time having gone here and I couldn't believe we had never been before. Even gave us a drink on the house - we will definitely be back! Best Indian restaurant in Surbiton I'd say.

Had my first indan meal back in 86 here.from this stemmed a love affair with indian food with many disapointment along the way.came back here 5 years ago the place had never changed the food is the best.i got a takeaway last night went for the classic tandoori chicken masala. Brilliant.hands down. Now im back in tonight before the long drive back to Newcastle tomorrow. Many fond memories they still bring ths food out on a trolley.when in Surbiton pop in you will love it

Family favourite! We've been coming here for years and the food has always been good. We highly recommend the Lamb Shank Jalfrezi and the Tandoori King Prawn. But all the food is very good. We really appreciate that since the pandemic they haven't raised their prices and the food is still great quality. The service is always very good and thoughtful too. We will always rave about The Agra!

Love this curry house best curry for miles around the food is excellent always good selection and good value

we ordered from Agra tonight having never used them before. I have to say we were very impressed with the food we received. The flavours were delicious and the meat was like home cooked roast chicken in what we had. The only minor complaint is that the rice was perhaps a bit small to what we are used to
