Popped in at 5.30pm to order 2 takeaway meals for a home delivery at 8pm. Had to go in rather than phone because on a previous enquiry, I was told that for card payments you have to order at the counter and pay......erm, okaaay !! 8pm came and went, and at 8.35 I phoned to enquire as to where our food was ? I was told that the driver was out delivering and the he wouldn't be long. 8.45 he turned up apologising and that he difficulty finding the address. Despite the fact that our house is less than a mile and a half away, and in more or less in a strait line. The Food : Ah, the food !! Firstly, it was barely warm and I put mine in the microwave. I have been enjoying curry since the 1970s and have eaten in many curry houses in many towns and have seldom been disappointed. However, I can say with authority that this was by far and away the worst example of Indian food I have ever tasted in all those years. The curry was bland, bordering on tasteless. The onion bhaji we're not only stone cold, but also were similar in texture and equally tasteless !! The accompanying teaspoon full of mango chutney consisted of a sweet goo, bereft of any pieces of mango whatsoever. The mint sauce as we tend to call it, was of a thin, milky substance, and tasted of nothing at all but merely served to soften the rock like texture of the onion bhaji. To conclude. I would recommend that if you want a decent, satisfying takeaway Indian meal, then avoid The Agra.... better renamed as The Aggro !! and get a ready meal from any supermarket. Not only will you get eat it on time, but it will actually taste of something and save you quite a lot of money too.

Bloody awful. Grumpy chap taking orders. So I said to him 'pick up in half an hour at 7.15'? Reply.... I don't know what the time is so if you say so....... Starters expensive with a 'bit of lettuce' Ordered a main course Vindaloo. Spice was fine but a generic gluttonous sauce. A bit of ptatato and meat (chicken') just in chunks. I can see sauce and meat cooked separate but OMG. No attempt to make food presentable. £17.50 for so meal. Restaurant has become takeaway. I feel that they won't be there much longer. It was quite nice as a restaurant.... Bye bye Agrah I won't be back.....

Absolutely disgusting. We had a pahtia which had no flavour what so ever and a really watery sauce, a lemon, garlic chicken which again tasted of nothing and a special fried rice which was so greasy it stuck to the spoon! Best bits, the poppadoms! The tray of pickles consisted of a teaspoon of mint sauce, teaspoon of mango pickle and a teaspoon of lime pickle, to accompany 4 popps. I don't think so! I had better in the 70's . Probably been spoilt by Oli Khan in Stevenage. Take cooking lessons guys!!!

We have recently moved to the area and ordered a takeaway from here as a post-christmas treat. The telephone manner from the takeaway was very short and unfriendly but the food was ready very quickly. We had two different dishes a naan and a rice, the rice and naan were okay although not very hot, the main dishes were really pretty dreadful, swimming in grease, very bland and no spice detectable there was also a short black hair in one. Very disappointed as Indian is our go-to takeaway but we will definitely not be revisiting

Poor service, ordered large meal after they had been shut for several months and forgot the 3 popaddoms, so we thought it must just be just a glitch.ordered again tonight and they forgot the naan bread, so wife had to drive back down and collect it. Had a take away early on a Sunday and i had the previous days Nan Bread and Onion Bhaji. Moreover, when the door to the kitchen open the 'chef' was there in tracksuit and a jumper with a bobble hat - so much for wearing whites or being clean. Keep away as this was a horrible experience

When we moved to Horncastle 4 months ago and were in anticipation of the " local curry house ", as this is the cuisine of choice for our family. First visit was fine, and whilst we found the service different to what we are used to it was nice not to be pounced on as soon as we were seated. Dish choices were good and offered the traditional selection expected, wine and beer was complimenting and costs for overall dinner was excellent. Until this year I worked in London mostly spending a couple of nights a week away for many years and every night went to an Indian for my evening meal, probably half a dozen different restaurants in town ( 2 in brick Lane ) as im a creature of habit and like familiarity if it suits, so have eaten in most of the well know ones. Since our first visit 4 months ago we have been once a week to the Agra, and it has become our go-to for a evening out after a hard week. I think this restaurant is great, they are making dishes not on the menu and have tried hard to please , even sourced new ingredients as we like like it hot. The basics of rice and nans etc are absolutely fine , I love the rice and nons as they are not over flavoured. The Patia is excellent, proper chicken, the Bhuna is a same every week dish, , and I have something very hot not sure what it has developed into but it does achieve the heat and flavour without the nasty powder flavour, so I know the chef is ok. The service is quirky but we like it and we like the staff. Make sure you do have the Poppadoms, chutneys, and Bhaji s.

First time staying in Horncastle and we thought we’d give the local Indian restaurant a go. The booking was easy to do over the phone on the day we wanted to go and when we arrived the staff were very friendly. The room we sat in was cold to start with but the staff put the heater on for us and it warmed up fairly quickly. Nice ambience and choice of music. I like that they have kept the rooms in the condition where you can see the wooden beams in the ceiling as it gives character. Some extra lighting would be a good idea and a warmer restaurant to start with would have improved this meal a lot more. The food however was really lovely. There was more than plenty for the portions. The pricing is very reasonable and flavours are excellent. If I’m ever back in Horncastle I will 100% be returning here for another great curry.

Staying for a long weekend at Bainland Country Park in Woodland Spa and felt the need for a curry. Ordered and told an hour for delivery to Bainland Country Park. We ordered mango chicken (medium), king prawn rogon, pilau rice, garlic naan & popadoms. Delivery was quicker than an hour which was great, they call you when they get to reception and I walked up to pick up the order. The food was very tasty, we would most definitely order from there again. Only improvement was the mango chicken with medium heat we felt that was mild however never the less this was very tasty as was the rest of the food.

Being greeted by a flick of the head and raised eyebrows from the young waiter should have been interpreted as a warning of the quality of food to come. The poppadoms were OK and the pickles reasonable although 2 of the 4 seemed watery. We were offered special rice, al la "Fawlty Towers" but decided on the mushroom rice. Perhaps we should have just agreed to the special rice as we seemed to get it anyhow - barely a mushroom in sight but plenty of peas and egg! My wife's Masala was quite sweet with tough chicken and my Jalfrezi was sadly insipid. The drinks were Ok, but it was a memorable evening for the wrong reasons.

Hubby and I were holidaying nearby and had had an horrendous 3 hour journey on a bank holiday weekend so decided it would be a takeaway for supper.Ordered at 9.30pm and was told the meal would be 40 minutes. We arrived to collect it at 10pm and only had to wait 5 minutes before it was ready. We ordered 3 poppadoms ( gave us 4 ) and pickle tray. A mixed kebab starter and onion bhajis. We then shared a portion of keema rice, garlic chilli chicken and sag paneer. The whole meal was £24 which I thought was very reasonable.I must say all the food was delicious and we couldn’t fault any of it. The flavours were lovely and you could really taste the depth of the spices . Would certainly visit again when in Horncastle.

In Dec 2018 I was greatly impressed on my first visit to this restaurant and travelled from Hull to Horncastle to repeat the pleasure in April 2019. I regret that 50 mile journey however for the whole experience was, we agreed, lackluster. Pretty poor in fact.We were served by a very young waiter who was shy, or lacking confidence, or realy not that bothered that he was interacting with paying customers. Someone there needs to help the poor lad! Whereas the food on the first visit was succulent and cooked well, and was the reason for my return, tonight's food was pretty poor:. Popperdoms were good (as you can't get them wrong), as were the pickles.Naans were very white though and lettuce was browning and not crispy, whilst all tomatoes were mushy (old) or dry in all dishes. The boiled rice was good but the shami kebab starter was too dry, the bombay aloo was bland and all skewered kebab vegatables (onions, tomatoes, peppers and mushrooms) were undercooked (crunchy!). Perhaps someone in the kitchen was rushing the food out because the meals did not live up to our partie's expectations. We dined on a Thursday and were sorely unimpressed this time.

From the moment we arrived we were 'pounced' on for a drinks order. Some of the food was ok some was not. Two people in our party decided they would have the same chicken meal off the menu. When it arrived they had put both meals on the same plate! The onions were raw and when a member of waiting staff was told he brought out more fried onions in a separate dish. We asked for a reduction in the bill which they agreed, however we weren't asked about more drinks, coffees etc. There are what seems to be a lot of waiters for the size of the place so service should be second to none. I would also point out that if any of their staff have been sent to 'charm school', they are due a refund as it hasn't worked. Won't be dining here again as money is too hard earned and there are much better place out there for your money.

We've always liked the food here and- to be honest- visiting as a family. It is still good food- however, the service unfortunately has declined. Trying to get attention is impossible when the waiting staff all have their backs turned to the restaurant. At the end of the meal, when we wanted to order desserts and finally managed to get attention- ALL of the desserts were off the menu. Not one dessert available on a Saturday night. Quite annoying, as we really fancied following up with some coffee and liquors. If the intention was to clear us out of the way to get the table, it may have worked permanently! If this is the way the restaurant has turned- from other reviews this isn't a one off- it is a real shame. especially considering the large group we have booked in for next week. Considering cancelling these regular meetings and moving elsewhere! Shall try next week- if the same lack of attention and lack of availability of food from the menu is evident again- then there is a real issue.

Over the years we have had a lot of nice meals in this Indian in Horncastle, but this visit was not very good at all. All of the old waiters have go e and been replaced with inexperienced waiters, I had to ask for the mint sauce to go with our mains and we were not asked if we wanted anymore drinks, there is no more orange segments after the main meal anymore the after dinner chocolate has been replaced with a sticky Fox's mint and there was no hot towels. What a shame as this was a great place to have a great meal. I will not be eating in here again until it returns back to how it used to be run, how customers can say the staff are friendly I do not know, we certainly did not experience any of that what so ever.

Ordered enough food for the group (helped a lot by the friendly staff at the Agra). With their advice we didn't over order. They delivered the food which was hot, incredibly tasty and plenty big enough portions. In all of the meat dishes the meat was cooked to perfection. And all for a very reasonable price. Me and my husband were staying one night in Horncastle and were looking for somewhere to have dinner. Now we've never been to Horncastle and it appears eating can be tricky due to some places stopping serving at a certain time and others not starting till later, there is def a market for someone to open a good, pub grub type place that serves food on a Saturday from say lunch till 8pm! After wandering about like lost souls we came agross Agra Tandoori, there were quite a few people waiting for takeaways and also quite a few bookings but slightly later. The staff were lovely and said if we could finish our meal in an hour and a half then they could squeeze us in - deal! I had chicken tikka masala and my husband had chicken jalfrezi, both meals were hot and delicious. Service was great and very polite. It is a small restaurant but clean and tidy, no complaints. The waiter could be seen hovering however, clearly keen to get us moved along. The main course then arrived which appeared lovely however I have tasted more spice in tomato ketchup.Despite voicing our displeasure, the waiter simply stated "they like it like that around here", being from 'around here' ourselves we felt insulted that a generalisation tainted our food was not dealt with appropriately.Bland food and lacklustre service have disappointed when takeaways have always been perfect. I have eaten in and had take-aways from this restaurant for years. But I am sad to say that so far as I am concerned, it has declined in quality and service since I first walked in their doors. Eating in is the better option, they seem to take a bit more care over the eating in customers both with service and quality of food. So often the take-aways have been disappointing, things missing, like bahjis. If you ring them, they write it in a book and you get them the next time you order, but it isn't what you want at the time and for me, the round trip to collect the missing bits is not worth the effort. The last take-away I got I had ordered a Balti and a Vindaloo. The Balti was not spicy at all, completely tasteless; however the Vindaloo was a Phall...far too hot even for the regular Vindaloo eater to eat. The side orders that went with the pompadoms was all onion, chucked into a plastic bag, soggy and horrible. I have tried a lot on their menu and there have been times when it was hard to tell the difference between various different dishes, the sauce seemed to be the same for everyone with different meat thrown in. The chicken in the Balti I had was tough, I suspect it had been cooked and re-heated as the outer part was hard. This last take-away was the last straw, I will not be going there again. It is a shame, the premises are in an old building just off the Market place and is lovely. The perplexing thing is that the restaurant is owned by the people who own the Indian Village restaurant in Woodhall Spa, same menu, same owners, completely different quality of food.

We have always had great food from here. We do a take out once a month as a treat. the food is fresh and tasty. the naans are big enough to share and nothing is too much trouble. my husband likes his sauce separate and they always oblige! Friendly staff and have never had a complaint so far!!

Had heard good reviews of Agra but for me the food was very poor. Starter was exceptionally dry and the main was bland - sorry but would not go again in a hurry

Have been eating here since we moved to the area over three years ago. We loved it back then. I even had my birthday party here but over the last 12 months the take away food has been disappointing and last nights visit was similarly underwhelming. We all ordered totally different dishes but they all looked the same with differing amounts of spice. Hope it picks back up to what it once was.

Visited on a weekday night with family. It took slightly longer than normal for them to take our order, but as we were chatting we weren't overly bothered. My mother in law requested a dish that was a combination of vegetable curries only to be told it was too busy for her to have that dish. The dishes themselves were mild, bland but plentiful.

Always a great meal from here. Love the naan bread, always seem to get free poppadoms which is always a winner with the kids.

I actually didn't like the dish I ordered -Paneer masala - the sauce was too sweet - but aside from that the food was plentiful and of very good quality. Great popadoms and chutneys, delicious aloo gobi and very good naan breads. My dining companion had the chilli chicken dish and was most impressed. The wait staff - especially the younger guys were friendly, helpful and attentive.

It was dismal weatherwise, but the AGRA soon changed all that the moment we entered. I always say "Namaste" to see what nationality the Staff may be. Pakistanis do not use this greeting but I received a greeting in return from Husain who is Bangladeshi. We joked and had a flavoursome selection of chicken vindaloo, Bombay Aloo, chicken dansak and the mixed grill with pilau rice. All diners were well satisfied and we were treated to a delicious aperitif 'on the house' made from Tia Maria, cream and a dusting of chocolate on top. The idea is to drink the small glass full in one 'go' to mix the drink in one's mouth. So, nice was it that we ordered another one!Would we go again....YES!

Had a fairly good meal here with fairly good service also fairly good value for money, overall not bad. This restaurant opens later than most in Horncastle and is open 7 days a week, which is a bonus in my opinion as we like to eat later sometimes. Our chicken tikka dish was very good however our chicken bhuna dish was a bit too chewy although it tasted fine.I will give it another try.

I ordered a meal for my girlfriend and I, the delivery then arrived to the house but to my surprise and upmost disappointment we had been given the wrong meal!!! I rang as soon as I noticed and the member of staff said they would ring the delivery driver and let us know what was happening. 5 minutes later I still had no reply, so I rang and the waiter told me that the food had been delivered, to which I obviously argued against him and said that I wanted a discount on the food when it came as my girlfriend has to rush to get ready for work because of this stupidity. The driver then returned with a refund and no food, well, this just sent me over the edge. I then rang while the driver was present and asked them why I had no food, the waiter then told me that I said I wanted a refund and no food... In what universe would I not want food I had ordered?!?! I then relayed what I had previously said and asked for the food and a discount, he offered me a 10% discount... That's only £2, why would he think that £2 would cover the stress, hunger and unhappiness this caused!! I told them that I wanted £10 discount from the order to cover all of the upset. Who knows if I'm even going to get the food or discount, I'll be surprised if he even comes back.

Visited the Agra for the the Thursday Night Special. Unfortunately it was not special. The popadoms were fine, though the pickle trays were not very generous and soon ran out. The chicken dishes that those in our party had were quite chewy. The dishes were not placed on heated trays, unlike most Indian restaurants that I've visited, neither were the plates warm so the meal was soon cold. The coffee we had to finish was also luke warm and bitter. The staff didn't have much to say at all and the service was mediocre. We won't be visiting again.

Veggie choice (out of 5 stars): 4Most Indian restaurants offer loads of veggie choices, usually with the concept of say a Biriyani dish (but without the meat), whereas vegetarian dishes are probably more authentically "Indian" than the meaty ones. At various other Indian restaurants in the UK we had the feeling that the vegetarian version can be lacking in vegetables, and there is instead a lot of sauce, and no extra vegetables to make up for the meat void. Not so at the Agra Tandoori in Horncastle. The choice of vegetarian main courses isn't that amazing, but we shared 3 vegetarian mains and 3 veggie side dishes, plus a peshwari naan and a pilau rice. As two members of our party rarely manage to go to Indian restaurants, we also asked for poppadoms, and they came with the standard issue of 4 sauces. We were so full, we couldn't face any desserts.Service was not particularly exceptional, but we don't need this, we just want to be treated in a friendly and polite way, which is what we got.Overall: inexpensive, authentic (for Indian food served to Westerners in Europe!) food, with a flawless and friendly service. Definitely a reason to travel to Horncastle when in this part of Lincolnshire.

This is a very small intimate Indian restaurant so there is probably no point in turning up with a party of 26 people. There is loads of parking in the town very nearby and most of this is free after 6pm. The staff were very pleasant & the food was good. We spent roughly £18 per head including drinks. it is worth a visit for small groups.

I ordered a take-away and the prawn rogan was dreadful. There were very few prawns and the sauce was thin, watery and without any taste whatsoever. It was a disappointment, as I have eaten-in there before and the food was much better.

Myself and the hubby visited for the fixed price banquet on a Thursday evening. It was our first visit to the restaurant after having had takeaway previously. The food choices were plentiful. The quantity of food was rather large starters and reasonable mains, side orders and a naan were included too however there was plenty of food you don't need to order anything else you will be stuffed :-) The quality of the food was reasonable and for the price we were happy. The restaurant is a simple tasteful affair for dining although the napkins were paper and I'm not talking linen feel quality paper I'm talking supermarket value napkin paper which was a bit disappointing . In all the food was good, the service was reasonable, staff pleasant, but not that attentive so if you need something you have to get their attention. But for the price on banquet night it was a good dinner and we would go again...... to banquet night if I wanted a treat I think I would go elsewhere.

Made a booking for a family meal after a recommendation from a friend. Turned up to be greeted by a incomprehensible mumble and taken to a table. The menus were thrown at us. No smiles or conversation made with us. My daughter ordered a diet coke. A regular coke was brought. We sent it back only to have it returned and told it was a diet coke - you can tell the difference. The food was nothing special- I've tasted much better. No one came to ask us if the meal was ok. Paid the bill- didn't give a tip as the service was non existent.Gave the restaurant a second chance as everyone has bad days. Was even worse. Again made a booking. Was sat in a corner for 45 minutes to wait for our table. Not offered a drink, so left without eating. Found a much better restaurant elsewhere. Will never return.

We come here often to eat in plus to get takeaways. The food is always consistently good with fresh ingredients and friendly service. If I were to point out any negatives I would say sometimes the naan breads can be slightly under cooked and doughy, but this is a minor point. Best Indian in the area (in fact would dare to say Lincolnshire!).

We ate here on an overnight stop in Horncastle. The menu was not very extensive, however, offered a good choice of house specials. Starters and main courses were tasty, not overspiced. Main courses were very generous. The wine was good quality and very reasonable at £12.95 for a bottle of House White, being a Chardonnay, supplied by a local wine merchant. The staff were very polite, not over attentive, as is often the case.Prices were realistic and for about £40, we ate starters, mains, 1 rice and 1 side dish, bottle of wine, lager and 1 coffee.A good find.

I have dined here many times and the food quality is excellent. I have also eaten at many other indian restaurants around the country and apart from the indian village in woodhall spa (which is owned by the same person) this is the best quality and tastiest indian food I have had and they use no colouring aswell. great food good service.

Have been coming to the Agra tandoori regularly for the last few years, and much prefer it to the other local Indian restaurant. The staff are very friendly, the food is great, with a wide range available, and is good value. The Thursday banquet night is great value if you like to have starters and sides as well. Service is usually very good, although can (understandably) be slightly slow if the restaurant and takeaway are busy. Definitely recommend a visit!

My family and I ordered a just eat take-out this evening from The Spice Lounge. Delivery was slightly delayed as we live a bit of a distance away but the food arrived piping hot and oh my days was absolutely delicious. Best curry that we have eaten in a long time and well worth the money. Very highly recommended. Thank you so much 😊 Nicky, Gary and Tom

Absolutely shocking starters, when does a portion of shami Kebabs arrive within an omelette? a portion of Seekh kebab is 1 kebab split in half. Chicken tikka masala arrived as a korma. The onion bhaji (easiest thing to make) is actually the finest sliced onions I have ever seen. Really is not worth the £150 for 4 drinks, 4 starters and 4 mains. WHERE WAS THE MASK.

Recently had an order from here for the whole family and everyone enjoyed their food. One of the best curries I’ve ever had. Beautiful
