My birthday tea with one smoked salmon sandwich two ham and two cream cheese and the bread was stale and the fillings pathetic. Cakes were two small pots of cold carrot soup how is that afternoon tea. The mince cakes were bought cases with cold mince spooned in. Two tiny brownies and two large scones that were crispy with insipid jam and cream. The teapot was stained and the man who came to tell us what we were having kept poking his finger at the food to illustrate it and came close to putting his finger in the food. Quite an expensive experience.

We enjoyed a superb afternoon tea at the Wroxeter Hotel. This was a birthday gift from my niece - what a great idea. The setting of the hotel is lovely - nestled between the ancient Roman city site and the village church (partly built with remnants of the Roman city - very interesting - go nd have a look at the entrance gate, framed by ancient Roman columns). Enough history - although it all adds to the experience. The hotel staff were very welcoming - and our hostess for the afternoon, Jen C, was lovely - friendly, helpful and attentive without being instrusive. A glass of sparkling wine and pots of tea and coffee were soon brought to our table which was in an open and airy conservatory overlooking the drive and gardens. The food then arrived - so beautifully and creatively presented on a mini garden bench that it made us laugh and smile. The sandwiches - imaginative variations on the classics of smoked salmon & cream cheese, ham & mustard, cheese and pickle were all fun and tasted wonderful. The chocolate brownie was deep and rich. The massive scones were fresh, warm and served with fine quality jam and thick clotted cream. So far, so delicious. However, the star of the show had to be the variation of an Eton Mess served in flower pot!. Topped with highest quality chocolate swirls, working down through a thick cream to a crunchy 'edible soil' marangue base, we passed through a heavenly layer flavoured with rose and fresh raspberry. Possibly one of the most delicious desserts I have ever eaten in my life. Well done to the staff at the Wroxeter - an afternoon tea isn't cheap, but when you get something of this quality it is worth every penny. We finished off with a pleasant stroll around the grounds. What a lovely experience - it has tempted us to book one of the smaller events packages they offer (the offer a wide range) - either for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday meal or as a future anniversary celebration. Based on the experience we has I would highly recommend the Wroxeter Hotel.

We had this experience bought for us as a present. Well where do I start? Firstly, we were greeted by Bernadette who couldnt do enough for us. When we were taken into the Roman Suite for our food, we were given a first class experience of lovely food and service. We have been on quite a few "afternoon tea" experiences over the years, but for food content, this is definitely one of the best. If you get chance, please try this out as I will guarentee that you will be more than satisfied. A big thank you to all of the staff.

So you look on a website, chose a delicious sounding afternoon, try to book it... no-one ever answers the phone so you email with the name of the requested menu as the email header, and repeat what you want to order in the body of the email.... eventually you receive a reply saying which are the available dates but it has to be paid for in full in advance. Bit odd but spend far too long actually trying to get through to pay for the special afternoon tea, eventually manage to pay and ask what time we are booked in for.... We arrive and are presented with an entirely different afternoon tea to the one booked! A tray of sandwiches only. The waiter was confused and tried to sort it out, Apparently the special afternoon teas shouldn't be on the website (they are still there now) so we asked for a full refund - grudgingly given with no apology. Why advertise something and make people pay in advance for something that they don't actually sell?! There are much better places to have afternoon tea - avoid Wroxeter Hotel.

What an total waste of money (paid full price not a wowcher deal). Firstly, the parking was an absolute joke with no parking available in the car park so people were having to park on the grass by the main entrance and walk to the hotel. The sandwiches were dry and nothing like the ones depicted in the pictures, and because we requested the vegetarian option we ended up with just cheese, totally uninspired. The scones were hard and almost stale and the cakes were only just passable. The service was also rubbish, we were never asked if the food was okay or if you required a refill, in fact whilst we were there another table was totally ignored when they tried to get the attention of two waitresses. The best thing about the whole experience was the view from the table.

fFood was lovely and well presented but waiter (older Italian man, maybe Angelo??) was very strange. Had coat on and was leaving when we arrived, didn't seem too happy when we arrived despite having booked and arriving on time. He didn't ask what each individual person wanted to drink - one person said tea and he just made everyone tea. We noticed he did this to other tables too. Amongst many other things, he tried to take my plate away before I'd even finished. Then about 20 mins later he came back and told us our 'time was up' and took away our plates. We absolutely don't mind if they needed the table but he could've said it in a much nicer way - 'sorry but we need this table in 15 mins...'. He also shouted at another team member in front of us and when we were paying he mumbled something about a tip would be nice - no chance after that experience. In terms of Covid safe - this was shocking. He was wiping tables with his arm, no sign of any cleaning spray or wipes etc. His mask was on and off periodically throughout our time at the cafe, so in terms of covid we didn't feel safe and this is one of the reasons we would definitely not return. The waiter was nice at times (giving us glasses of prosecco) but at others really abrupt and came across very rude. He should not be serving front of house with those kind of behaviours, maybe the abruptness was a cultural thing but even so we came away feeling that we would not return because of the very strange odd service.

A mothers day gift, my wife and I had afternoon tea recently, although I am not an afternoon tea lover both of us enjoyed the occasion very much. The waitress was exceptional and the quality and presentation of the food was good, in pleasant surroundings. Only suggestion would be a more varied selection of teas served, otherwise excellent.

Having had many afternoon teas and meals there, mainly using Groupon had a dreadful experience. Booked two weeks earlier for four as s treat for my sister who has advanced Alzheimer’s . I had to ring on the day to cancel as she fell and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after a fall. She had broken her shoulder bone and needed stitches in her face. I explained all this to acting manager who wasn’t interested. Said they had redeemed the voucher and would not allow us to go on a different occasion, even though the voucher had not expired. She was very rude and cold. When I said I would take the matter further she accused me of threatening her. We are all in our 70s and were left bemused and upset. This place no longer to be recommended. Don’t waste money on a company who are so uncaring.

OK, so the Shropshire countryside is always beautiful, but the journey past the Wroxeter Roman site in this year's heatwave was exceptional in the glorious sunshine. Our welcome at the Wroxeter hotel was warm and inviting, and our table, dressed with floral displays, located in the light and airy conservatory. And the food! Plentiful, tasty, intriguing sandwiches adorned with, variously, grapes, tomatoes, micro herbs. Then scones with cream and jam, delivered with a theatrical cascade of dry ice - great fun! Flower pots followed, filled with a chocolate, cream, meringue concoction, and finally chocolate brownies. It was rich, indulgent, perfectly balanced, and served with endless refills of tea and coffee. Last, but very far from least, the service was exceptional. Friendly, unobtrusive, knowledgeable, and genuinely concerned for our enjoyment. For us, it was a treat to celebrate our recent 42nd wedding anniversary (which may give a clue to our age group) and an absolute joy...

Myself, mother & sister attended the Mat Hatters Tea Party this afternoon, it exceeded all our expectations from the small details in the decor to the outstanding service we received from queen of hearts, Alice & the hatter! The Afternoon Tea was the best we’ve ever tasted & experienced!! I also have to praise the chef as my mom is gluten free & some places see this as an afterthought! I can assure anyone that this definitely wasn’t the case at The Wroxeter she didn’t go without & it was beautifuly displayed, simply fantastic. We will most certainly be back. Thank you xxx

Just returned from a very disappointing afternoon tea. This is by far the worst afternoon tea I have experienced. We bought a voucher off Amazon local for 2 for £14. I am aware this is good value for afternoon tea but it was extremely poor considering the normal price is £36. Firstly we were sat outside with drinks (the sparkling wine unfortunately was sweet, not brut, was not chilled and did not taste alcoholic) where we waited for about 45 minutes until we were invited through to the table, but we did not mind this as we were enjoying sitting in the sun and looking at the view. The staff were friendly, but the service was slow bringing our drinks. The room was also very quiet despite there being a number of other tables in the room; it could have done with some background music to create an atmosphere. When the food arrived I was shocked. Unlike other tables our food was not served on a stand and the sandwiches were cut into triangles, not fingers and barely had any filling. The cakes were by far the worst part of the afternoon tea. At first I thought it was a bit stingy giving us only one scone between us, but after tasting the dry scone I was glad there was not one each! The scones could do with not being pre cut with jam and cream already on it, especially as people have different preferences and is probably why it tasted stale. The shortcake and the glittery pink cupcake looked like something you would find at a children's birthday party (see photo). Overall very poor experience and not even worth the discounted price we paid. I live locally but I won't be going back ever again and will be sure to make sure friends and family do not make the same mistake we did!

went here for my birthday with my mother. I booked it few weeks before and the earliest they could get us in was 3 pm, which was fine with me. When we arrived we noted immediately that an event was happening. there was a wedding open day from 4-7pm. The reception staff was friendly and we were asked if we wanted to sit outside which we did cause it was a lovely sunny day, but to be honest I don't know where we would have sat inside as everywhere was arranged for the open event. We were served promptly and I have to say the sandwiches and cakes were all lovely. Cakes were all home made. we had a glass of sparkly and a large pot of tea. The 1 staff member was very nice and friendly but once we were served we never got spoken to again. My mom wanted more tea and I wanted to purchase more sparkly as it was my birthday. The staff were more concerned about open day and were busy rushing around. we felt completely forgotten about!! when we left my mum did say we would have liked another drink and they said we should have got hold of them, but we are the customers and I felt they should have asked us if we were ok? It is a lovely setting and they have done a lot to this hotel over the years and it looked beautiful set up for weddings. We just felt like we were an inconvenience and they should not have had afternoon tea customers unless they could give us the attention customers require..

I was really looking forward to the trip here for afternnon tea for our wedding annerversary but was so disappointed . We booked it with wowcher but that would not have made any difference to quality of the food . The bread was dry filling looked as if it had been chucked on 2shortbread biscuits 2 slices or should I say chunks of chocolate cake and layed scones which very poor quality . I must say we had a very attentive waiter who changed a chipped cup as soon as we asked but should have not been there in the first place. We were hoping for good quality with a little bit of finess which this was not I suggest whoever prepared this tea sticks to the washing up

We went for a cream tea which thankfully was a 2 for1 offer, but even so, £16 for 2 prosecco (which was nice, hence the 1*), 2 rounds of tiny barely filled sandwiches, 2 mini scones, 2 squares of sponge (jam and coconut and goodness knows what the other one was) was disgraceful. The coffee was instant and barely warm and I had to change my cup as it was dirty. The hotel was in the process of being redecorated, but if the idea of a 'cheap' cream tea was to promote the hotel, then this was an epic fail. Pity because the grounds and location of the hotel were lovely, but we won't be returning.
