Afternoon Tea At Prestonfields in Edinburgh, City of

We enjoyed afternoon tea in the afternoon. The large grounds were beautiful and green. All the cakes were beautiful, delicate, and delicious without being too sweet. The scone was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and firm throughout, with a grainy texture. It was cold from the beginning, so I wanted it to be served warm. The savory was quite good, and it wasn't too much and was the size that I could eat it all. Although it was a wonderful reception room with a nice view from the window, it was a disappointing shop. I made a reservation by entering my card number from the official website. When I tried to pay after finishing my meal on the day of the meal, I was told that it was not necessary. I thought I was paying by card that I entered on the website. Later, I received a double payment from the credit card company I entered. I contacted the hotel and store via email about 5-6 times, but there was no response. After consulting with my payment card company, I managed to get one charge stopped. What should I do if there is no response even though the amount is large? It's a shame considering it's a historic hotel and store. I had planned to go there next time I came to Edinburgh, but I decided against it. Please deal with the basics properly. If you are making an online reservation and can enter your card number, please order.

Unique experience! We went to Prestonfield to experience Afternoon Tea. The service is impeccable, the staff very kind and friendly. Wide choice of teas, each with different descriptions. We enjoyed a surreal atmosphere. A stop to put on your Edinburgh itinerary!

Atmosphere is cool, the food was good enough but the service was horrible, no one ever came back to check on us and we had to go hunt for the bill

Highly recommend afternoon tea here. My mom and I had a leisurely visit in the most pleasant surroundings in one of the drawing rooms. The food was great and presentation lovely. Tea and drink options did not disappoint. Strolling outside afterwards we got to see the peacock and hairy coos. All around wonderful experience.

We found this to be a charming and indulgent experience for summer afternoon tea. The serving size was plenty (we had leftovers to take away) and they graciously allowed us to have more than seven different pots of teas! We stayed for nearly 2.5 hours with no sense of being rushed by the staff. Outstanding!

Had a bad experience, especially with the service during Mother's Day. Booked for 530pm afternoon tea but only given a makeshift table at 6pm (despite having a prior booking!). Ordered food & waited close to 1 hour only to be told that the kitchen has run out of items that we've ordered. Somehow, the message from the kitchen was not relayed to us. We left hungry and ruined our Mother's Day celebration. The only saving grace was that our hot drinks were free of charge due to this mistake.

This place is absolutely lovely. The staff is professional and accommodating, the interior is breathtaking, and the grounds are well-kept. Peacocks stroll around the garden, adding to the charming vibe. The tea service was exceptional, having a wide range of complex flavors, both savory and sweet. I enjoyed the rhubarb tea, and the glass of champagne was just the cherry on top. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of the toasty room, which boasted great decor. They have multiple rooms with different decor suitable to every taste. I would highly recommend this place for your afternoon tea, whether you’re alone or with company.

Terrible. Went for Champagne Afternoon tea on a Saturday. Arrived early and was put into a small room to the left and waited. Assumed this was a waiting room as we were early. A waiter finally showed up 20 minutes later and asked if we were there for the afternoon tea and then dropped two menus on the coffee table and walked away. 10 minutes later he came back and explained the menu and dietarys. We advised that we disliked 2 items, so he said these would be switched. The waiter then brought a tray and set up the coffee table for service. This was confusing as we'd booked into the restaurant, not a drawing room. The seats were uncomfortable to sit for 2 hours and the fire went out so it became cold quickly. We then got our tea, but we had to ask again for the glass of champagne, we finally got this 1 hour after arriving. When the afternoon tea food arrived, it was average at best. Definitely not worth the money. They hadn't switched the items we didn't want and some of the food was inedible. The salmon sandwich finger was good and couple of the dessert items were good. The scones were very dry and hard, they hadn't even been warmed. The carrot cake was also very dry. Once we ate we then waited for someone to come by so we could ask for the bill. No one came past again, so we got up and went to the desk to settle the bill and leave. Overall very poor, definitely not worth the £65 per person. Avoid.

Marvellous afternoon tea. The best in town. I came here three times and will definitely come again with the friends visiting me.

My friend and I enjoyed a delicious ‘Coronation Afternoon Tea’ in the stylish Rhubarb Restaurant at Prestonfield House with a beautiful window seat and views of the garden. The service, quality of food and presentation was first class. Even our ‘doggie bags’ were stylish! Will definitely return possibly for an overnight stay next time. Thank you.

I had booked an afternoon tea for a Christmas treat for my mum in advance as she has been coming here since the 70’s. The interior inside was lovely and Christmassy however there was no staff member to greet us on arrival and we where left waiting, where a staff member greeted a couple behind us and we where ignored, eventually someone came over and we got taken to our seat but the staff weren’t overly friendly. We got water quickly on arrival, however it took a while to get menus and our drinks. The food did come quickly and was delicious. The food can’t be faulted. Throughout the 2 hours we were there no staff members came to check on us and ask if we needed anything. The staff members seemed to be going to the ‘bigger’ tables and leaving out the smaller tables. My mum wanted a refill on her drink and we were waiting for about 20 minutes before we eventually got hold of a staff member. There was a wedding on so unsure if the staff were ran off their feet and prioritising the wedding. It then took around 30 minutes to eventually get the bill as there was no staff members around / near the vicinity. On top of the poor service, I felt that there wasn’t much of an atmosphere in the hotel. I came away feeling disappointed, especially for the price paid. For the price I would expect better service but the food was excellent. I had also been at the Dome this week for afternoon tea and there was a much better atmosphere and better service there. I’ve been to Prestonfield House Hotel many times and never had service so poor. It has made me reconsider going back as I don’t believe it’s worth the money.

From the welcome outside before we even entered the hotel to when we left it was a magical experience. The service was outstanding, unobtrusive yet observant. Noting was too much trouble. The food was delicious. We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and the meal finished with a plate of complimentary handmade chocolates on a Happy Birthday plate. Leftovers were beautifully boxed to take home. A traditional experience made extra special by staff and ambience. We will definitely be back

They may have a lovely venue, they may have a good chef, but if the service is terrible that's what you come away with. We sat looking at one another for upwards of half an hour till in the end i had to go and ask the concierge to find the waitress for us. And when she did come she was abrupt to the point of rudeness. We had afternoon tea in the 'yellow room', it is so-called because the customers turn yellow with age waiting for someone to come into it.

The best experience in the best place!!!! We took our time to enjoy it and loved every second of it!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! Thank You!!

An einem Regentag in Edinburgh haben wir den Afternoon-Tea im Prestonfield House gebucht. Wir waren schon über den sehr netten Empfang überrascht. Das Haus ist wundervoll eingerichtet. Sehr stilvoll. Wir haben uns sofort wohl gefühlt. 2 Stunden haben wir die wahnsinnig tollen Leckereien genossen. Mehrere feine herzhafte Gerichte, Scottish Scones und mehrere feine süße Gerichte. Wir durften aus vielen verschiedenen Tees auswählen. Gemeinsam mit dem wirklich leckeren Tee und den leckeren Gerichten ein echtes Erlebnis. Können wir wirklich empfehlen.

Myself and my friends were very excited to visit Prestonfield for afternoon tea. We had seen the Summer Menu advertised on the website when we booked which sounded delicious. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and taken upstairs to be seated. We were given the menu for afternoon tea which was different from the one advertised as it was now an autumn menu. The member of staff took our order and we then began what was a very long wait for food. In this time a door to the balcony kept being opened and staff battled to close it. As it was a cold windy day it made us all feel very cold and uncomfortable. Our afternoon tea eventually came out. The service throughout was disappointing with very little attention or interaction from our server. We had to ask for fresh tea as our pots had gone cold from the repeated draught from the open door. I feel the level of service was not what I would expect for the price point paid.

We paid £50 plus tip per person I would expect more having been to many afternoon teas over the years I had great expectations of the Afternoon Tea at Prestonfield particularly as this is 5 star hotel and set on stunning grounds. Unfortunately the service provided was not fitting of a 5 star hotel in fact I’d struggle to say service was even 3 stars. The quality of food and tea were acceptable however the vegetarian sandwiches did lack flavour and I do think the team could manage better than lettuce, tomato and avocado sandwich as an option. There were a large selection of teas to choose from which was great. However service was terrible on arrival we were seated opposite the balcony door this was not an issue but it was a windy day and the constant opening/ closing left us very cold there were plenty of empty tables available but they had not been cleaned which is very odd considering the room had us and one other table. Only once did the person assisting us ask if we were ok we were then left looking for someone to arrange for additional tea due to the delay in the food arriving and the balcony door issue the tea become luke warm quicker than expected. I expect most of the team were assisting with the wedding taking place. The room where we had tea was beautiful you can see the great care taken to restore the original features but the service leaves a lot to be desired and I would not recommend if you are looking for a true premium 5 star experience.

This is, beyond a doubt, the best high tea I have ever had. I go to high tea all over the world and have had several high teas in Edinburgh and this was the best. Their summer theme was delightful, while still having the necessary traditional aspects. They are very accommodating of allergies and vegan options. The grounds are exquisite. The staff is exceptional. 5 stars in every category.

This was the most disappointing tea experience we had in the UK. I wanted our last afternoon to be special and really do it up with a fancy afternoon tea experience to round out our vacation. After pouring over reviews and photos I settled on Prestonfield. We reached the rather remote location and were fairly quickly ushered upstairs to a lavishly, if not garishly, decorated room filled with sofas and tea tables. It was very dark and overstuffed with furniture. Being August, I had assumed we would be seated outside because of all the pictures I had seen online, but the weather was a bit iffy that day, so inside we were. There was a family slouched around one of the sofa sections as we entered which was not the upscale atmosphere I was looking for based on the price and location. We were seated in a corner with a loveseat and armchairs and 2 low tables. Our server was very attentive and explained everything in detail (except that the portions were massive) and we all ordered - One tea each which turned out to be way too much food. The food itself was lackluster, but there was plenty of it. There were actual buckets of scones. I had the champagne add-on for 15 pounds which was just a scant pour. We were also treated to another large family being seated right next to us with kids running around and playing videos on speakerphone. In short it was NOT the experience I had hoped a 50 pound tea would provide. If you decide to try it based on the glowing reviews here and on TripAdvisor, just be sure to determine where you will be seated (all the "views" are downstairs with the windows and light and there are actual tables to sit at). It did not look a thing like the pictures online. And don't order more than one tea per person. You will be bagging up dry scones to go. Honestly - I wouldn't bother.

WE really enjoyed their "Afternoon Tea" in the garden in this splendid 5 star Hotel near to Edinburgh city centre. Excellent service with an excellent range of Savouries, Sandwiches, Scones and Cakes with an excellent range of top end Teas too. Also other beverages provided. You can use the facilities of the Hotel also during your stay. Staff very helpful and offering 5* service and food in a lovely country like setting, well worth a visit when in Edinburgh!

We enjoyed a scrumptious afternoon tea at Prestonfield House. The tea was nice, but really the food was the star of the show - delicious and very generous portions. We ended up having to skip dinner because we were so full from the tea! The building is also stunning, made for a very elegant feeling experience.

Our family of 6 went to a very memorable afternoon tea at the stunning Prestonfield House. As we pulled up, there was a party going on on the front lawn with women wearing fascinators, men in summer suits and a couple of snow white horses just wandering through. They told us it was a Royal Ascot party. We sat in the formal Rhubarb Room...overlooking the garden where they were actually growing rhubarb and one of us had rhubarb tea. We all had unique, ornate, silver, vintage teapots and the food was beautiful. The dishes were customized with a rhubarb image too. I was on visual overload with the décor. Every corner had something amazing to see and you were able to wander through all of the rooms and balcony. It was layer after layer of patterns, colors and textures. I had to take pictures of the ladies room with its hot pink accents and lounging area. There was a resident cat and a couple of super loud peacocks. One peacock jumped into the tree! We can't wait to return and would LOVE to stay there sometime. It was very special.

Ambience is what you're paying for here. The service was very good, tea excellent, and food was great (if not anything truly spectacular). But, if you are tourist, looking for what you imagine afternoon tea to be--this is it! A bit expensive, but given the surroundings, that's no surprise. Go here for a special occasion or the experience--but there are certainly cheaper options with tea and food as good or better...then, as I started, you're not paying for the tea here.

The team are extremely attentive and care about your experience and it's definitely the best service ever had in Scotland so thank you! You really made our afternoon!If I had to pick one thing to give feedback on it was that due to lockdowns in Scotland (No fault of the business) the afternoon tea couldn't be served with glass of champagne (which wasn't a problem as I was expecting this) however I found that £7 for a fruit juice Mocktail instead of cocktails was very steep, this could have been included instead of the glass of champagne... It was £14.00 for two glasses of fruit juice … other than that it was a wonderful time and I will definitely be back.The venue don't take 'guaranteed' reservations for particular seating spaces due to being very busy but are very accommodating and do explain this at booking and we did get the leather room which we requested a fantastic room!Cleanliness standards are extremely high, tons of sanitiser and a temperature check on entry too. Staff wear gloves, wash hands regularly, don't touch the food and have disposable menu's etc. Hats off to the owner and the staff here! You create a safe and warm environment to enjoy the evening and there's literally an escape from the outside world here.I'd highly recommend this venue for afternoon tea, even dinner perhaps. And I'd definitely be back at this venue soon! (February for our afternoon tea) once we get our civil partnership!

Era la primera vez que tomaba el té de la tarde en Prestonfield y no cumplió con mis expectativas en lo más mínimo. El entorno era increíble como siempre: el precio que se paga es definitivamente más por la estética y el ambiente que por la comida. Teníamos un salón entero para nosotros, lo cual era encantador, pero los asientos simplemente no se sentían bien: estábamos sentados en asientos muy bajos, encorvados, con nuestros tés balanceándose en un puf largo que era una receta para la indigestión. Pasamos gran parte de nuestro tiempo jugando jenga equilibrando platillos y soportes para evitar que se resbalen del puf de cuero. Si tiene problemas de espalda o simplemente prefiere una mesa y una silla verticales mientras cena, le recomendaría que lo solicite al hacer la reserva.El té de la tarde en sí era insatisfactorio para el precio y no hay nada que destacar: estoy de acuerdo con las críticas a continuación con respecto al salmón bastante picante y los sándwiches estilo buffet del club de bolos que definitivamente requieren una revisión. Los dulces eran normales pero comparables a una versión comprada en la tienda. El margen fue suficiente para dos, pero no muy generoso para tres cabezas de pago. The mansion Prestonfield was built in 1687 and is one of the world's most sumptuous and unique places to stay and eat.We dined in a huge marquee situated within the grounds of this fabulous place and were treated to the sensational "A Taste of Scotland" show, with traditional dress, music, dancing and instrumentals. It was a great show which received a standing ovation from the audience.The food was excellent and the service by happy, friendly and efficient dining staff was exceptional. The location, the setup the food and the entertainment were firstclass. If you are ever in Newington, Edinburgh, Scotland, do yourself a favor, visit this wonderful place and go to the show.

Second time for afternoon tea. Last time was in winter and we sat upstairs in the cosy red decor room. This time we were downstairs In the room on the left which is bright and airy. I have been for lots of afternoon teas in all sorts of places and I can assure you this is one of the best. Environment, service, food (quality and amount and tea selection are excellent. Very relaxed and not rushed at all. Peacocks wandering he grounds and a helpful staff at the door who opens taxi doors/sees you in.
