Valentine’s Day from hell!!! Me and my boyfriend booked to go here for Valentine’s Day. I had a reminder email on the day that we had our booking for 7:30. We drive over an hour to Bristol especially and what do we find…. The lights are off and no one’s ‘home’. We are absolutely appalled we had no communication saying they were closed, no sign on the door explaining why they weren’t open, nothing! There were 4 other couples also stood outside looking bewildered and extremely disappointed. There was no answer from the phone number on the email so we were stuck trying to find a walk in on one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants! I messaged them on Instagram, they did not reply till the next day and they said they had let customers know they were having electrical issues which is a lie because we had no such correspondence and I checked junk folder and everything. Also there were multiple other people who hadn’t been informed either so clearly they had not told people. When I tried to explain that on Instagram, they read and ignore the message and that was 5 days ago. Clearly they don’t care about customer satisfaction and don’t seem to grasp how unprofessional it is to turn up to a restaurant that as far as you are aware should be open, with Google backing that up when you look online, only to turn up to a dead restaurant. We travelled in especially and they just didn’t care. I advise you ‘scope’ out the restaurant the day before to check it is actually open.

I’ve had a few weird experiences here when it comes to the staff, they always seem quite rude and dumb. Before me and my friend asked for tap water and the woman gave us two glasses with lipstick stains and dirt all over them, it was so obvious and bad she would of known that but still gave it to us anyway. We politely asked to change the glasses and she reacted rudely by saying “yea it’s cus we don’t dry them properly” like who says that just dry them then because that’s gross, and it was really really dirty. Further on when we was eating our food the same woman approached us and said are u ok i said yes thankyou and she said ok cus u keep looking at me and I was in shock as the tone was very confrontational and non professional. I said oh no thankyou I’m ok and she rudely walked off again. Each time I’ve been the staff are very strange and have no people skills

The food and atmosphere here is pretty good. I've rated the service low as they forgot our order and when we reminded them they rushed it and brought the mains first and starter after. The lamb chops were not well done in spite of telling them when I ordered so I had to send it back. I also noticed another table where they waited a long time to get their order and they too had to remind the waiter about their order. But when the food did arrive it was good. Hopefully they were just having a busy day when we visited.

Super food, super spicy, and delicious 😋 drinks are amazing 👏 but the service is a little bit unprofessional, and there is a lack of attention for the customer, but definitely we going to come back for the food.

Great food! Juicy chicken, with amazing house special sauce, spicy & fruity, and really good coleslaw that felt fresh and healthy not the usual slop. The battered okra were so good. The service was really quick, and the drinks were so nice and fresh too! Definitely coming back. Service was quick enough to go before the theatre too, which was handy. No rushing at all.

The grilled chicken is so succulent and tasty. price for the whole grilled chicken is reasonable too.

I visited with my mother who uses a wheelchair. The lift was broke and worryingly they had no ramp or other means for wheelchair users to get up or down. Fortunately there were none stranded. There had been no mention of the lift problem when we made the booking and there was no sign on the door. So we travelled there and waited outside for 20 minutes for no reason. A member of staff offered to lift my mother up the stairs. Clearly there was no concept of respect or health and safety. The manager then tried to convince us the lift was working. I was hesitant as his colleague was quite clear that it was broke. I asked him to clarify. He tested it himself but got stuck. If my mother got stuck, the fire brigade would have had to attend, disassemble the glass panel and door and lift her out. I asked to make a complaint but was ignored. No apology or offer of compensation was made. I made a complaint online and was ignored. We used to visit regularly with family and friends but will no longer visit.

Great food and service. I chose the steak option, and it was very good. Soft tendar and fries were well cooked. Mac and cheese was 10.10.

A lovely place, the food was bountiful 😂 and delicious. A great place for friend groups. Do get the Afrikana mocktail special!!!! Which It were a cocktail, the best thing after hot bread.

I’ve come here a few times and I’ve never had a great experience. The food often comes out cold and clearly not fresh. On my last visit they forgot 2 of our sides which I understand can be an accident, however an apology would have been nice, and I had to ask for that to be taken off the bill. Staff are friendly though.

I love thé ambiance and the service. Darren is such a nice and wonderful person, the customer service is very lovely, I really enjoyed it here

I’ll be very honest. The food was great and the 3 waitresses who served our table were really patient and wholesome. We had a huge group and I really have to hand it out to them on how they managed to deal with such a large group. However, the service we received from the team lead/supervisor’s behaviour was disgusting. After waiting 1.5 hrs for the starters to arrive and 2 hours for the mains to arrive which I understand we were a big group. For someone on our table to be told what they ordered from the menu didn’t even exist was unprofessional. The then team lead/supervisor then to start arguing to say that what somebody ordered from the menu after 2.5 hours waiting was very rude. Shoutout to the waitresses but the team lead/supervisor guy (named Waseem) please respect the business and respect your customers. Also upstairs was very hot please turn on the A/c for future reference.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Bristol. The food is spectacular. My favourite is jollof rice with butterfly chicken. I have give 4 stars for the food because it can be a hit and miss. I take every guest to Afrikana and I have noticed that sometimes there can be issues with the food quality. However, on most occasions it is spot on. Be prepared for slow service and for drinks to be served AFTER the entire meal is over. We had to repeatedly enquire about our drinks and request for water before it was finally served. In terms of atmosphere, the seating is extremely comfortable and the place is accessible friendly.

was so impressed by the half chicken with peri peri sauce! very flavourful, quite juicy, some dry bits but overall delicious. fries and coleslaw paired well with the chicken as well, for 10.45£+ it was one of the better meals i’ve had in bristol. we also loved our server (lady with headscarf)

Service really needs to be sorted here, staff standing around chatting with tables not getting cleared or asking if we want anything else or taking orders. They can only literally do one thing at a time, so if you ask for two things expect to repeat yourself again. Priority looks like it's given to online orders as delivery orders are churned out with customers inside left waiting, food quality is ok but everything seems to be overly spicy. Feels like nandos standard, could be amazing but let down by this place

the food was lovely. the plantain and rotisserie chicken were 10/10. curry gost a bit spicier than i originally thought but still loved it. our waitress mia was also very attentive. would recommend :)

Amazing experience. The different sauce options added a special touch to the main meal. The We Goat Your Back is my special recommendation and if you’re feeling extra hungry go for the platters. If you’re ever in Bristol, you got to check this place out.

Amazing Saturday night meal, Lamb Chops starter was great, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Had the chicken wings and chicken burger as our main courses, great choices. Service was absolutely A+ from start to finish. Darren was great as well as every other server we spoke to.

Haven’t dined in, but the food is AMAZING. Best Mac n cheese in Bristol. Shrimp was very high quality and delicious. Goat curry was fantastic. Will definitely eat again!

Then menu when they first opened was amazing and the food was great, but ive been there twice in the past 2 months & both times I’ve been left with food poisoning. My stomach was hurting and I couldn’t stop being sick. As a Caribbean I was disappointed by the taste of the rice and peas it tasted nothing like it was meant to. I definitely won’t be back. I tried to order a mocktail & was told I couldn’t because the bartender wasn’t going to be in until later 🥴. There was only one person running the floor & the poor man looked so overwhelmed, For somewhere in the city centre you would expect more staff.

Really lovely place for a date or a chill place for a heart-warming meal. :) My mates and I got the sharing platter, and each one of us spent about 10 pounds which was insanely worth it and delicious Umair Ali served us and was really friendly. To the manager, please give him a raise! Also, shout out to MCS for the collaboration !! Would love to see Afrikana food served in some of the MCS events / Malaysian Events !!

I'm a fussy eater but I just had a good feeling about this place. I've never eaten African style good before of ever contemplated eating it but was invited. I have to say my food was superb as was my partners and everyone else's and staff were very nice, nothing was too much trouble. Very clean and nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will be returning soon. Thankyou for the lovely service and to the chef's.

Very very rude staff !!! We are waited a good 15 minutes before we started to looking for a waitress. They are chatting and laughing. The restaurant is not been busy at all . The waitress mess up our order even they re cooked still the way dill with us it was very unprofessional. I been visiting the restaurant quite often but now I think I will stay a way . Very sad !!!!!!

Entramos al restaurante por el buen aspecto y limpieza que presentaba decididos a probar comida Africana! . Todo parecía perfecto aunque algun plato que pediamos no lo tenían y tuvimos que pedir otras cosas, no pasa nada. Algo después de llegar la comida pedí tenedores a un camarero porque que no había en nuestra mesa. El plato de carne que que pidió mi mujer tenía un grado terriblemente picante . Es algo que no venia especificado, algo así como estar en un Mexicano con ración fuerte pero no nos indicaron nada previamente así que apenas lo comió. El arroz parecía Basmati corriente y alguna gente de otras mesas tomaba hamburguesas con patatas fritas, honestamente desconozco realmente se de qué país de África podrían ser los recetas de lo que pedimos por los ingredientes. También en el caso de la hambuguesa de menú infantil para mi hijo de cuatro años sabía mucho a picante, por ello tuve que intercambiarle mi plato, diría que incluso era picante para mi. Cierto que el camarero se disculpó por ello cuando se lo comentamos, diciendonos que era una pequeña mezcla que añadian a la salsa de la hamburguesa...¿a un menú infantil le ponen picante?... Naturalmente decidí revisar la carta de dicho menú y en ella no especificaba que lo llevara. Además antes de pedir la comida nos habían dicho que el menú infantil era gratuito...eso nos había parecido estupendo, pero también se equivocaron en esto porque nos lo cargaron al ir a pagar... Afortunadamente al leer la cuenta y antes de abonar nos dimos cuenta que lo habían incluido por errory nos lo rectificaron... El restaurante y ambiente no está nada mal acondicionado y no nos importa que no sirvan alcohol, pero la experiencia no fue buena para nosotros. Está crítica quizá sea positiva para ayudar al local a mejorar su servicio.

Atmosphere was great, service was good and food was average. Chicken was decent but won't get too excited about. Ladypool Rd africana was way better but if I lived in Bristol I would come back.

Very welcoming Staff and manager. He is very friendly and I love his approach.

The food was full of flavor and high quality. Prices were reasonable. Looking forward to going back there to try more of the menu.

My son and his girlfriend took us (dad and mum) to the Afrikana Restaurant on Saturday at 5pm. We were all excited and looking forward to tasting the food. Especially my husband and myself as we visited an Afrikana restaurant in New Jersey downtown September 2022. The food in there was so delicious we were expecting the same standard in Bristol. We ordered our food and drinks. The restaurant wasn’t busy but the drinks took a long time to arrive. The fruit cocktails were very tasty. The waitress put dry ice on our table. Once the food arrived, the presentation was not exactly pleasing to the eye. I had the fish, two had the curry goat and one has chicken breast. The sides were mac ‘n’ cheese, Jelloff rice, plantain and sweet potato fries. 1. To say the Jelloff rice had no flavour is an understatement. It was orange coloured rice definitely not Jelloff rice. Real Jelloff rice has great flavour. The chef needs lessons on how to cook authentic Jelloff rice. 2. The Mac ‘n’ cheese was large pasta mixed in a running cheese sauce with cheese sprinkled on top. This is not Mac ‘n’ cheese. 3. The sweet potato fries were cold and not crispy. 4. The curry goat was the best dish. However it was kept under the grill to keep it hot. This spoilt the appearance of the dish. 5. The fish was under cooked. It was replaced but the mango salsa did not have any mangos in it. 6. The waitress gave us a 10% discount for the under cooked fish. 7. Needless to say there was so much food that was not eaten. Which was a shame. 8. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

I really try to avoid giving 1 start reviews but this place...it might be the worst Bristol restaurant I've been to. What I didn't like: -Most importantly, the food isn't really African! I was so excited for African restaurant to open but it's just a chain with burgers , chicken and the most terrible jollof/ rice and peas that I've ever had. The rice is basmati maybe? Not even the right type. No flavour either. -Beyond lack of African cuisine, the actual food is also terrible. Dry chicken breast covered in cheap cheese, soggy tasteless chips, raw salmon, Mac and cheese that doesn't even use the typical macaroni just like big chunks of pasta in a cheap cheese sauce. Even ketchup tastes cheap. There's no quality in the ingredients. I was so hungry and I still left so much food out. What a waste. - all of our meals arrived cold. - The drinks including water for the table took forever (the place was empty so really shouldn't take that long) -The toilets (woman's ones) were disgusting. Some miss locks, toilet paper everywhere, clogged toilets. Once again, it wasn't busy at all, the toilets should've not been in such an awful state. Things to look out for: -alcohol isn't served. This is not something I would downvote for but something to consider if you fancy some drinks at dinner. Things that were okay: - the non alcoholic punch is quite nice flavour-wise. -they place dry ice on the table and make a little smoke show before you eat which is pretty cool. -curry goat was okay. Not great but okay. Just the goat, not rice. Rice was terrible. Still, I cannot give it more than 1 star.

The jollof rice isn't authentic at all. For an African, this was very disappointing. I thought they really would be better. Wouldn't recommend if you want to try good African food.

Excellent service, staff extremely friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the food and decor, can see that they really thought about the theme with the interior design. Had a great time. Inclusive, lift access and space for a wheelchair.

1 star is for the food we ordered the platter took forever by time it arrived it was cold and covered in sauce. We send it back in the meantime burgers for others arrived which was also cold, we didn’t get our platter until everyone ate and by that time you don’t feel like eating. The kitchen service is slow, wait staff do their best to be apologetic however it just disappointing.

Absolutely loved the African food here! The chicken was incredibly tender and bursting with flavor. The drinks were a perfect complement. The cozy ambiance created by the lovely decorations made for a warm and inviting experience.

Had lunch here with a friend. The food was excellent, just the right amount of heat in the curry for me and offset nicely by one of their wonderful mocktails. Will definitely be back for another visit.

We Went for lunch, interior design is welcoming and the music playing in the background is really nice. We had to wait awhile before getting our food. Had the Jambalaya which is very spicy and tasteful. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We went to this restaurant to try something new and it looked very welcoming from the outside. I’m so glad we decided to eat in. Great food and pretty interiors. I ordered the Jumping Jambalaya and my boyfriend ordered the Salmon special (don’t remember what its called!). I loved the jollof rice although my boyfriend’s food portion was a little on the smaller side for the price. The side of plantain is my favourite and should be included with all dishes in my opinion. It is slightly on the higher price range, but in today’s cost of living crisis, what isn’t? All in all, we had a great time and I hope this place does well as we would like to keep going to try more of their food.

Been here too way too much. Would go again🫣 Every time I’ve been here the food was honestly 10/10 and halal! The drinks were also delicious and looked so pretty I didn’t even wanna drink it. Although the reviews had us conflicted on going we recieved good service. I went there today with a friend and it had great food options. Very cosy setting. I’m planning to go again saturday with family.

If I could rate it below 1star I would. Our food experience on fathers day was atrocious! We found a hair in our burger the strips and fried chicken wings was missing from our chicken platter, our first waitress was new and had no product knowledge. When it came to paying the bill even though I had requested to see the manager twice. The manager refused to come out and deal with my complaints personally or rectify the bill and thought 20% off my bill was reasonable even though it did not cover the price of the burger with the haira in it let alone the missing strips we never recieved. My table service never thought to remove all our empty plates long after we had eaten resulting in over crouding on our table and and sauce bottles falling and smashing glass and sauce up our legs. Africana did not deserve the money I spent there on Sunday. I will never bring myself or my family back and subject us to this traumatising experience ever again.

The food was quite tasty. 3 of us had the curry with rice and peas. However, on leaving the restaurant our tummies started to get very bloated and painful which continued til the following morning. I have never had this problem before. I can only conclude that the peas had not been cooked properly. Secondly, we had to wait an hour and a half for our food. When it arrived 2 of us sent it back as it was luke warm. Then one of our group didn't get her food til we had nearly finished ours. What made it worse was the fact that no one apologised for the delay or suggested any kind of compensation. We had to ask for a reduction in the bill and were just given a measly 10 % off. We definitely won't be coming back. No one seemed to be in charge on the restaurant only a lot of very young staff. We won't be coming back.

Very very poor service on Fathers day. Staff dont have a clue what they are doing. Brought out wrong food several times. Ran out of stuff on the menu but told us 15/20 minutes after we ordered. Staff didnt even know how to count cash when we paid the bill. On the last two visits the place has gone down hill. No management in the restaurant to sort out any issues.

thought this was a black owned eatery so was really excited to try it but It’s just a glorified turtle bay in african guise if I’m honest. don’t even waste your time going if you know what good food is. They also ran out of vegan tacos so instead of telling my friend they had none left they took it upon themselves to just serve her the beef tacos instead, if you wanted to dead off my best friend you could of just told us 🙄

Fabulous goat curry and the alcohol free cocktails were very good too.

One of the best grilled chicken I had in Bristol, chicken was good size not like Nando’s baby chicken , very tender,fresh and nicely seasoned.👍👍

I have been to the other branches where the food and service was much better, But unfortunately this just didn’t cut it for me, when trying the first time the food was extremely cold and we sent it back to the kitchen to be re made, the food then came back out and it was fine, the chicken was delicious but starters lacked a bit of flavour, and for the inconvenience the managers did take 10% off the bill which was kind of them, I wanted to give it a second chance and went again more recently and this time round it was similar as before, took a little while for the food to come out and once it did it was slightly cold. The prawns we had for the starters were very nice but the other items we ordered we slightly cold, the drinks we had were amazing too, also to keep note upon looking at the menu it seemed very limited on what they were offering compared to other branches, maybe it’s a big change they are making. Overall, the service of the staff was amazing, however the time it took for the food to come to us was quite poor and both times we got food it was cold.

Africana, a really nice place.. fell in love with the atmosphere and the decorations and how beautiful the place is. The waiter that day was just one person(maybe because there weren't much customers that day). The drinks were very small to be fair(very little bottle of fanta) the food was nice(don't order extra spicy unless you have a death wish like I did because I wasn't expecting it to be that spicy). If you love plantain, oh the have it. But what I love most about this restaurant is the menu. Not the regular boring rice, chicken etc theirs were catchy. And the plating of the food was good. But the food potion is small .

Wow! Even though I ordered this as a takeaway, my god I was so surprised.. I am very poorly and thought some spicy African food would kick the flu out as my housemate cooks amazing African food from back home.. I thought this would not be as good as my housemates cooking but it was bloody amazing!! So tasty, everything was just delicious!!! I could of eaten everything I ordered but because its so tasty I have had to save some for tommorrow!! Highly recommend..

The food was absolutely amazing but let down by poor service unfortunately. We arrived in the restaurant as a group of 5 and waited by the entrance for a long time but no one came to seat us, despite the staff making eye contact with us on a few occasions - they didn’t acknowledge us either making us confused on whether to wait or sit down. After a while of waiting we headed inside further until almost at the tables before a member of staff came over - we then had to walk back down to the entrance so they could pick up the menus from the counter at the front. We are normally very understanding with busy restaurants and staff, but at the time we arrived it was almost empty. Service was fine once we were sat down and our food arrived pretty swiftly, but when we wanted to ask for tap water or the bill it was difficult to flag down staff because they weren’t present a lot of the time on the restaurant floor. This is such a shame because the food itself is fantastic! Very large portions, great flavours and lots of options available, we all thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Their signature Afrikana fruit punch was also amazing, and the decor and atmosphere inside was really nice.

Got our food late they said there we floods. The drink I got was not orange juice, I don't even know what mixture it was.

The parking was horrible as it’s in quite a busy street although we managed to find it after, as we were fasting they provided us with fruit to open our fast. The food we ate in general was good but not good enough for the prices. The waiters were really nice although the service was bad. It took way too long for our order to arrive - when we ordered chips it took about 30 minutes when it was just chips. The drinks were so good definitely coming again just not going to be getting the same things.

Good food, quick service once seated. Had booked before arriving and the staff didn’t seem to pay attention to customers coming in including ourselves. Not great service at the door but good service once seated. Food came quick and tasted nice.

The food and drinks were wonderful. We all loved the different sauce flavours that came with the chicken. The mocktails were sweet and refreshing. Inside, the decor was nice and the lighting was cosy. We all admired the lamps above the tables. We were seated in a booth, which easily accommodated 7 of us. Service was good and the food was served promptly and hot. Once we had finished eating, it was difficult to find our server to get the bill and then to find them again to pay.

Absolutely SUBLIME restaurant and food! I went here not too long ago with my friends and we were BLOWN away by the food. It’s not everyday you find a good authentic Afro-Caribbean restaurant, especially in Bristol but this restaurant is 100% in my top 5! I hope their food never changes, keep it up Afrikana! 🥰😍😍😍

On arrival we met Yasmine, our host for the evening who was very attentive and warm. We originally went due to wanting Jellof rice (without hours of cooking) and we are so glad we did. Beautiful African flavours with perfectly cooked chicken and yummy sides. The interior is gorgeous, you feel like you’re waking into a central London restaurant (which is defiantly better than any other restaurant near by). Because it was such a great experience I have booked for my 23rd birthday with 11 people. They have a great seating area upstairs for large groups, or downstairs for a more intimate meal. Would give 10 starts if possible!!

The food here is out of this world. However, the service is what let's it down. We arrived and sat down but never asked if we wanted drinks. We needed to call someone over and ask. We were then asked to move tables to accommodate a large booking, which we didn't mind doing. However, the staff didn't make the switch on the system and delivered our food to the wrong table. 3 out of 4 dishes were refused by the other table, but my meal was eaten by someone else. After trying to explain to staff, who at first were just confused and not apologetic, asked me if I wanted to take mine away. I refused and asked if I could have it to dine in with my friends. When the food came it was out of this world, but our troubles didn't finish there. Our plates were never taken, we were never asked if we wanted more drinks and waited 45 mins for our dessert (having had to chase it 3 times). It finally came with a candle in one (unlit), unsure if this was a returned piece of birthday cake, a form of apology or they actually thought it was my birthday, who knows! They certainly didn't! We did have the undelivered meal taken off the bill but the damage was done. Our night was semi ruined. If it wasn't for the lack of service this place would be a hot spot!!! Maybe just get a takeaway!

Terrrrrrrible service.... Heard someone ask how to order as no one had served them... Waiting to be seated had to ask 3 times.... We walked out in the end..... Not worth it.

Great concept but the service is so so bad. They 1took 30 mins before taking out order, a further 40 minutes to bring our starter, just bread and humous!! How? And then 1 hour and 10 mins for our food!!!!! How. Absolute chaos. Never again

‘What cheese said’ is my favourite so far, staff are friendly but service can be better (waiters & waitresses don’t know much about the menu). Would be great if they include pictures in your menu!

Amazing starters and mains! The mock tails were so sweet and freashing! Definitely moneys worth. The staff were so attentive specially yasmin, amira and yesmin. Great experience, I definitely would recommend :)

Had early dinner Friday 7 April I have lived in South Africa most of my life and grew up on Bunny Chow’s the Bunny that I had was so close to the ones that I have had in SA it was delicious, I will go back again

For anyone looking for a taste of South Africa I highly recommend the Bunny Chow, it ranks as one of the best I have eaten (and I have had a few) 😁

Loved the ambiance, food is excellent and mocktail just fab! Would be even better to have someone at the end of your experience to thank you for coming and have a lil chat before you leaving.

Very disappointing, I went out for lunch with my family, and was astonished to see how bad the customer service was. The starters were brought out at an acceptable time, but it went downhill from there. The waiters took their sweet time coming to clear our table, when we requested for a bottle of water, it was never brought to us, and we had to call another waiter to get it for us. When we were ready to order our main meals, the waiters neglected our table, and we had to wait till they passed by to order. Once ordered we waited 30 plus minutes for the food to arrive, and it was still not ready. On top of the bad service, I still tipped them from the goodness of my heart. The overall experience was terrible. The only good thing about the restaurant was its ambience.

Excellent food here and a new favourite now for us in Bristol. We had a whole grilled chicken with some sides and it was amazing. Flavourful, moist and well prepared by the kitchen staff. Service was also friendly and attentive. Recommended for sure!

10/10 experience overall, staff were very respectful and attentive- great people, food was great and would come again with more people.
