Advocate Arms Hotel Restaurant in West Lindsey

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The staff were so friendly, ensuring our stay was perfect. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and it was delicious 😋 The breakfast was also very good. We always like to stay somewhere and find something you wouldn't find in most places. Well, the best part of staying here for us was not having to be at breakfast by a certain time. This made all the difference to our stay. The bar does shut by 10pm but you can take drinks to your room, which again we were very grateful for. Would highly recommend! We paid £100 per night and that included breakfast for us both! The rooms were out of this world, beautifully clean and kept to a very high standard. This place sets a high standard, well done to the Advocat team

Likes, A beautiful central building, friendly staff. Room seemed clean enough on entry. Dislikes, wasn't shown to room on second floor or offered help with bags. Room is darkly decorated with some over decor items. Bed was dreadful and uncomfy, had it been daylight I would have left in the early hours. Upon inspection, the bed had one tatty mattress protector that revealed a very stained mattress, this made me nauseous to think I'd slept on it. Wasn't asked in the morning how my stay was, toast was all I could manage. This establishment has lost my business, if you're going to run something do it well. Felt like i'd spent the night in a tawdry guesthouse and came away feeling dirty. You have been warned.

Had Sunday lunch here 28th January. A very pleasant restaurant in the heart of Market Rasen, where the staff appear happy in their work, and certainly warrant a 10/10 from me. The food was served in generous, yet not overwhelming portions, all of high quality enjoyed by us both.

Been here before and food was really good, this time however no main menu just a lunchtime special or brunch menu. I can have breakfast anywhere. The starters were very small. Soup was good, too much butter for a small piece of bread. The salmon and broccoli bake lacked flavour, very little salmon, 2 pieces of broccoli and few bits of diced potato. I can’t normally eat 2 courses on a lunchtime but still felt hungry after the meal. Staff were friendly and the place was clean and tidy. However bring back the Main menu on a Saturday lunchtime please. I would rather pay more for a quality and substantial main course with quality ingredients. Lunchtime special meal deals, I could go to any high street pub chain. You are better than that.

Been coming to the advocate for a year now. Always had a good meal, but the recent one was very nondescript. My fish and chips were over-cooked and tasteless. My husbands meal was, again, overcooked and cold. The staff were great and did take one meal off the bill. Such a shame, because in Market Rasen there aren't many good places to eat and really wanted this meal to impress our family who came to visit. Please get back to the good food that was once served.

Sunday lunch The fish cake starter was very disappointing no taste at all. My wife fish was well overcooked. My choice was sold out so I had the meat pie which fine. The atmosphere was more like a fast food pub. Sadly today was not as good as previous visits. There are better value meals locally.

We’ve been visiting this place just before Christmas each year since 2015, specifically to meet up with family for lunch together. However after this last visit I don’t think we’ll be returning. Obviously prices are rising in all pubs/restaurants, but we all felt that charging £24 for a 2 course lunch with such meagre portions (especially the mains) was too much. Other years the Christmas atmosphere has been quite good, with festive tableware, crackers, etc. This year it was white napkins, no crackers and one small effort at a glittery tree on the table (we were lucky - many tables didn’t have anything). Between us we experienced several different mains and desserts and all were rather lacking - the men particularly in our group looking at their chosen dishes with one small item on a huge plate saying “is that it?”. The service wasn’t too good either. After our mains had been served and we had all eaten a good third of our food, the server suddenly appeared with a bowl of vegetables for the table! This was appreciated as it added more quantity to the limited portions, but it ought to have arrived with the meals. The waitress also, twice, leant across a person eating to place items in front of someone else. For a place advertising “fine dining” this is not acceptable - fundamentally quite impolite - and it wasn’t as if access to the table was difficult - she could easily have walked around the other side of the table. We've had far better food and service in Lincolnshire for half the price.

Food was excellent. All three courses for 9 people was faultless. Was a bit apprehensive after been told portions small and not the best food prior to our visit but could not complain about anything. Would definitely go again.

First visit after reading good reviews and we were not disappointed. Front of House (2 ladies) were very welcoming friendly and polite, food well presented and good quality. All in all the 35 minutes to get there were well worth the visit.

The food was excellent and good value for money. However my Sunday lunch dining experience was spoiled by the very loud music. Totally unnecessary given the average age of the customers. Other people also commented on how difficult it was to have a conversation. Please turn it down.

Used as a base to visit family. Had a wonderful time staff were very helpful and friendly especially one lady who couldn't do enough for me, I felt I went in as a stranger and left with a new friend, Tracey your a star thank you so much , see you next year.

As a regular customer of The Advocate, I have to say that the staff are always welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. I regularly visit for coffee and occasionally come for breakfast or an evening meal. The salmon with winter ratatouille is highly recommended and if you fancy treating yourself, the Afternoon Tea is amazing! The Advocate is the go to place for fantastic coffee or for something filling!

Three of us ate here today and enjoyed our lunch very much. I’d have been a touch happier if a pint of bitter had been available but recognise that it’s a dying product. I ordered the pheasant with mash and broccoli and it was very good indeed. The sauce complemented the meat very well and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. This time of the year I pick up pheasants and partridges at a local shoot and it’s great to see a chef not only conscious of the season but putting game on the menu. The food is mostly very very good. The tables are laid with bright clean napkins and lovely soaking wine glasses. You ask for water and it arrives ice cold with cucumber which makes it so delicious and refreshing. Our meals both nights were nicely presented and well cooked lacking in a little seasoning occasionally but definitely worth taking time over. Excellent wine list with some good recommendations from Greg who was both friendly and patient with our seating requests.The hotel is a little tired in parts but very comfortable beds and airy spacious rooms. It is our go too choice in the area and we have stayed several times and enjoyed our visit.Housekeeping need to be vigilant as some corners and areas fall short with cleanliness...bed throws, cushions, bath...the makeovers were somewhat sketchy but not enough to make me feel that this hotel is not worth the money they charge. We will return, I hope.

I've lived in Rasen for over 6 years now and have been to The Advocate numerous of times. On the 11th of Jan, I booked a table for two for me and my girlfriend. We had two occasions, the first was because it was her birthday and the second was because I succeeded in my police interview.The staff were very friendly and professional, we were greeted with staff that looked very smart. The new menus are fantastic, I hadn't been for a year or so, the change in menus is fantastic. I ordered a "Advocate Scotch Egg" as a started, the Egg was perfectly cooked and the sausage meat and breadcrumbs was nice and crunchy. Overall the Egg was absolutely delicious. I would love to have that again. The tomato had a great flavour with the Scotch Egg. After that, for main I had the 8oz Ribeye beef cooked at medium rare. I have to say, it fell apart in my mouth, everything was cooked to perfection. Abolutely amazing, I have no other words. I do wonder what beef it is, I'm guessing Lincolnshire Beef?When I booked the table I asked for a birthday surprise for my girlfriend, and I came for dessert, she loved it. I did to as I was lucky enough to get a bite! Abolutely amazing service. I love the place, I will definitely keep on coming on special occasions, or if I'm on duty in Rasen, I might come in for a quick bite. For those of you worried about cleanliness, it is very clean, although not seeing the kitchen I trust them and the health inspector score, the toilets are also very clean.
