A group of us visited The Limes yesterday evening for a Birthday celebration. It's a lovely venue but sadly let down by appalling Service. There only seemed to be two members of staff Waiting on the Dining Area, one was totally inexperienced and hadn't got a clue (not his fault if he hadn't been trained) and as a consequence the other was rushed off his feet. Problemswe experienced including very slow service, the New staff member not knowing what drinks they sold, what measures to sell them in, or how to work the "till" at the Bar. Then, when the main courses eventually arrived, one of our Guests was served with vegetables on their plate that were still frozen solid ! (Made me wonder how well everything else had been "cooked" ?). That meal was eventually replaced after others in the party had already finished theirs, and then while the guest was still eating her replaced meal, the staff began clearing the table and removed everyone else's plates - very bad etiquette which gave the impression that they just wanted to get rid of us, so we didn't stay much longer ! Having said all that the prices were reasonable, and my own meal ( Cod and chips ) was quite good, but I won't be going back.

Sunday lunch was delicious, probably one of the best I've ever had. Everything was well seasoned and presented nicely. My partner had fish and chips and he was happy as well. My mother had salmon which was very nice, the only let down was a side serving of vegetables, they had no seasoning at all and looked a bit sad which was surprising as everything else was of a high standard.

I treated my friend to afternoon tea today. I had had to postpone from 2 weeks ago and they kindly rebooked today, even though it was a last minute cancellation. The waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful and the food of a very high standard. However the experience was spoilt by the constant stream of people passing by our table. We couldn't wait to get away. They were moving building materials into the new room erected yesterday next to our table, which did not help the ambience. Probably wouldn't go back although no criticism of food or service. Reasonable price too.

See main review, don't go here for anything edible because they don't like cooking the veg, like bricks

Superb steak pie meal. Well presented and very tasty. Good selection of food too. Good beer choices. Staff friendly. Large pub but plenty of quiet corners away from football on the tvs

We love this take away and go back time after time. Food is always hot and delicious with lots of meat in it. We wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Big thanks to the restaurant team at the manor, especially Michael, for ensuring a perfectly choreographed family lunch for 18. You couldn't have been more helpful or efficient.

A fascinating pub that we were told was once owned by Henry VIII and given to Catherine of Aragon on their divorce. Then owned by Magdalene College Oxford for hundreds of years. It’s certainly old with flagstone floors, lots of panelling and a no longer accessible secret passageway to the church across the road. Top that with decent beers, a short freshly cooked menu and friendly service
