Lovely old fashioned pub - very cosy on the inside but all adds to the atmosphere. Popped in here for a quick drink while on a visit to Norwich, very pleasent place to sit back and relax away from the worries of the world. Building itself dates back to the 17th century but brewing has taken place on this site since the 1200s.

Same as other peoples experience, the pub is a tiny rustic lovely little bolt holt. Nice beers, prefect "ye olde Norwich" experience (like Elm Hill etc). The peoblem is it run/staffed by a tiny, irrritated and perpetually rude little man. He was rude to 2 people in front of me and then rude again to me, so i juat decided to be the "bigger man". If i could give some advice, Frodo if it's not too late, id suggest you give up the ring (CEX or Mount Doom or Cash Convertors would take a cursed gold ring for scrap value) and return to the happy side of life, its never too late to live life without hate (plus its not all about size, dont let a little thing ruin your outlook on life).

Extremely rude, dirty and quitebpossibly the worst pub in Norwich by far. Staff are very famously rude and impolite, dirty and unkept. We went on a Saturday afternoon for a lunch, as is usual when we venture out, we took our small Cockapoo with us. When we entered the pub you would have though we commited murder, the long haired unclean looking barman immediately started shouting saying that dogs are not welcome and we had to be outside. I replied saying that on some reviews it stated that dogs were welcome (obviously incorrectly) he immediately replied with a rude and sniggeringly comment of "well we don't even have a website so I don't know where you got that from". To be honest it did us a favour as inside looked run down and tatty like it had not been cleaned in years, I don't mean like a quaint olde pub style I mean like a dirty boozer where they don't care one bit, making the non acceptance of dogs all the more confusing. I didn't mind them not accepting dogs after all it's their porogitive, however what I do mind in the sheet attitude of a barman who clearly thinks he is god's gift to student dive holes. The building has heritage and history however it's little more than a dirty student boozer, run by the great unwashed to serve the great unwashed. I employ anybody who is thinking of attending not to, Norwich has many great pubs sadly this is not one of them unless you are a student and not a very clean on at that. Steer clear. I've also heard the food is appalling and only edible if you need to soak up some sambuca shots (this is what a group of students said to us on the way out)

This small, wonderful, historical pub is located in Bishopgate, close to Norwich Cathedral, the Great Hospital, and Norwich Law Courts. It is widely claimed to be the oldest pub in the city, with the earliest known reference made in 1249. The staff were great, helpful friendly, and keen to chat about the extensive history of the pub. The Real Ale was fresh and in good condition. Spend a bit of time here exploring the photos and literature on the walls. It was the last pub in Norwich to serve ale from the barrel, until a bar was installed in 1971.

I can honestly say I’ve never been spoken to by any staff, or anyone for that matter, the way I was spoken to this evening. My friends and I decided to stop by this pub with the intention to grab a quick drink, upon arrival I ordered some drinks and was met with sarcasm and overall rudeness. Me and my friend were honestly shocked by how we were spoken to, but brushed it off as we didn’t want to ruin a good night. However, little did we know this was about to get so much worse. My friends and I had only been sat down for around 10 minutes, when an angry bartender approached our table. His reason for this anger was due to the fact that 3 out of the 6 of our group hadn’t bought drinks (a problem I’ve never encountered before and I work in a pub myself). Although the rest of the group was planning on buying drinks (as we had only been there 10 minutes), he had no right to question the reasoning behind us not purchasing any further refreshments. He then proceeded to aggressively call us cheapskates, disrespectful and either to buy more drinks or get out. There’s no way to describe how we were feeling other than utterly shocked. This behaviour was completely unreasonable as despite being met with such disregard, we had not provoked him or even answered back in any way that could be considered rude. And can I add, it is absolutely disgusting to call someone a ‘cheapskate’ as someone’s financial status is never someone else’s business and certainly not a way to insult someone. Yet somehow this isn’t even the worst of it. After much back and fourth about us being so-called ‘disrespectful’, he then told us to f*** off and took our STILL FULL, paid for drinks away, leaving us in complete disbelief. Perhaps I could grasp an insight into his behaviour if it was a busy, packed pub and we had been sitting there for a considerable while, however there were only two other tables and we had only been sitting there for under 15 minutes. Rude doesn’t even cover the experience, and we all walked out feeling quite frankly shaken up and violated.

On a Shardlake walk of Norwich we passed this pub just in time for lunch; so glad we did. It is a small historic pub right, the interior is snug and atmospheric but despite the feeling of snugness there is plenty of seating. We ordered our food and it was served in good time, and well worth it. For an historic pub, in great location it is really good value. My pie was gorgeous with lovely fresh vegetables, my friends had the platter (wow!). It is next to the law courts, so you get some legal personnel popping in for lunch too. Outside seating if the weather is nice. Highly recommend

Lovely pub with friendly and helpful bar staff. Barmaid with the pink hair was a laugh kept dancing. Actually spoke to me whilst serving me my drink, made me feel very welcome. Has lots of character.
