We've eaten at the oak for years. But today's lunch was a disappointment because of the service. The waiters who served us were nice. But they did what busy tourist restaurants do in London to move customers through quickly. They cleared some plates before we'd finished eating or asked if ok to do so. They gave us the bill not long after we'd finished and without us asking for it. This made us feel rushed. And for a £45 lunch, that isn't good.

Two vegetarians eating vegetables but all elevated to a delicious array of small plates. We booked and chose to sit in the window watching the evening crowds go by. Lovely atmosphere, helpful staff and just wonderful food. We both enjoyed our evening and wouldn’t hesitate to go back if ever in Bath.

I went here for lunch, really not expecting much as this place focused on vegan food but I was EXTREMELY IMPRESSED . The portions were small and neat which I liked a lot as I could try more and every component of the meal was clearly very well thought about. The staff was very kind , open and friendly. The atmosphere was very autumnal and the overall restaurant was very clean neat, and cozy.

Very sorry to say that this place is below average. We came here for a meal last week. The seating is quite cramped, but I can always put up with that for great food, however, the food was so average, I can't understand why it's got the previous reviews it has. It could be good but it's massively lacking in flavour. Service could also be better. - youve got the right idea, but the service and flavor of the dishes need to be improved before you can say this place is any good or recommend it to anyone.

My partner and I had Dinner here on May 26th - the evening began with a massive cringe when as we arrived two customers were just leaving and complaining to the staff about the card machine not working and in fact just walked out - at the time we thought that was rude - but by the the time we'd finished our meal, I wish we'd done the same.....Firstly the staff's attitude was just generally rude - it's one of those places where you feel like you, as a customer, are a bother and you just don't feel comfortable which is never a good sign......Secondly, it took 40mins for our first dish to arrive, which was a few rough radishes on a plate - then a bowl of cold soup - then some flabby ravioli - they forgot the next dish which should have been Arancini - then we were rushed onto our "Desert" which was a chocolate brownie that was so hard it was literally inedible. Our bottle of water was rushed off the table before we'd even finished and the total price for this "meal" was north of £120 (including red wine). A truly terrible place that was so bad that my partner and I talked about it for the rest of the night - it's places like this that give vegan / vegetarian independents a bad name - so I would avoid it and find somewhere else to eat in Bath.

New to the area so wasn't sure what to expect. The restaurant itself is in a lovely location down some old lanes near the cathedral. Located in a quaint old building, the restaurant is quaint and cosy with various nooks and crannies to dine in.The service was perfect - from the first welcome and all the way through the meal the team were all relaxed and personable whilst being on point and knowledgable. The menu is a selection of small sharing dishes. Each one was beautifully crafted, nicely presented and well balanced flavours. Every element was clearly home made, even the pasta and bread. We enjoyed everything we had. A Good wine and drinks list too!Everything was very reasonably priced too - ours came to £55 for two people at dinner with drinks and about 6 dishes to share which was plenty. This is a new favourite and we will be back!

We went to this restaurant today and found that, compared to the previous visit, when it was The Acorn, too much has changed not just the name. The whole concept of dishes that will surprise you with superb presentation and tantalising flawours has been abandoned for ordinary flat tasting, poorly presented dishes. The price has also reduced considerably, but so has the pleasure in the experience.

We visited the Oak restaurant, originally booked to dine out with our vegetarian friends in Bath who sadly couldn’t join us due to the latest Covid restrictions. As non-vegetarians we had thought about rearranging our plans for the evening for a meaty alternative but I’m so glad we stuck with our booking. The vegan food was exceptional. We opted for a 5 course tasting menu and every dish was mouth-wateringly good with the highlights being the white onion and wine soup, and braised sprouts and pasta in a pine nut source. The chocolate and ginger ganache with orange and shortbread rounded the meal off very nicely. Good range of sensibly priced wines and service was excellent throughout.

Our favorites were the beetroot and goat cheese, the squash on flatbread, the chocolate paired with beetroot sorbet, and the vanilla tart with poached pear. Last night we went to this incredible restaurant in Bath, felt immediately 'at home' and ate some absolutely fantastic vegan food. We had 5 small plates and they were all outstanding. The menu was brilliantly constructed, varied and unique. The decor was rustic, charming and homely, which was very much the atmosphere of the place. We were given excellent service by Alex, Ellis and Rebecca, who all friendly and knowledgeable about their food. For excellent quality food their pricing was very reasonable.

No podía creerlo. No será mi elección de lugar para parar la próxima vez. Ojalá hubiera vuelto a casa.

Honestly from the reviews and photos of the food I was expecting a little more. Neither me or my girlfriend are vege but we are open minded and don’t always eat meat. For me some of the food was a little bland and a bit basic compared to what I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong some of the plates we had were really good, like the pumpkin lentil curry - however some of the dishes were a little strange and for me didn’t work. They wasn’t bad by any means, just not for me maybe. I was expecting fine dining , and that wasn’t the case really. Maybe I set my expectations too high but was quite underwhelming for me . That being said , I would go back and try some different dishes. Staff were very friendly and it’s a nice little place.

We also took advice on wine (my husbands looking for the ideal red) we were reck ended a Gammy but also learned about how choose wines depending on altitude and climate of where the grapes grow could suit my husbands pallet. Super interesting and wasn't patronised. A new waitres (on her 3rd shift) also helped make our evening. Definitely recommend and is really accommodating of dietary needs. I must add. Restaurants such as this, with only 10 tables can really suffer from people making bookings and not showing up. Please please don't do this. It can make or break little restaurants.

We were on our fourth visit. Had no idea Acorn had changed from vegetarian to vegan. And only realised when I asked for a cappuccino. No cows milk here I was told. Ok, that’s ok. But the food is so so different from when it was veggie. From rustic gutsy dishes packed full of flavour I was sent spiralling into babyhood....The upside, polite staff, quick service, nice atmosphere.....the starter I chose carrot and hazelnut pate...Why was the consistency like puréed baby food, and looking like a cube of jelly? I couldn’t eat it. Embarrassing cos I’m not a fussy bunny. So onwards and forwards and looking forward to my main, chestnut mushroom and pine nut parfait. Oh no, another two cubes on the plate with a jelly covering on the top. Savoy cabbage was lush tho. Just again couldn’t eat it. I mean, I DO have teeth ... please bring back textured food! Came home, had some food... first time ever I’ve had to do that,,,., cogitated with husband about how different the Acorn now was and felt sad. Sorry to be negative. It’s a thumbs down from us.

Is how we felt after tonights expensive bland and salty vegan meal. We were so excited to eventually find a fine dining vegan restaurant (having attended a vegan cookery course at Demuths) and planned our weekend in Bath around visiting the Acorn... We arrived at the restaurant in great spirits and left the restaurant within the hour nearly £100 worse off and feeling physically genuinely ill with the amount of salt and almost inedible food... We had planned to have 3 courses but only managed 1 and a 1/2 (Jerusalem artichoke, beetroot starters, cauliflower and celariac mains).. Sadly to add insult to injury the service charge was automatically applied and we were feeling too unwell in the moment to dispute the quality (to be fair would like to assume they would have been receptive and apologetic)... Think they need to rethink their menu and/or chef to be less salty/ 'brown' and move to fresher more vibrant and genuinely tasty offering. Unfortunately despite my enthusiasim towards Acorn, it does not do the plant based/vegan dining experience any favours.

The food was nicely plated. But in our opinion there was a sheer lack of flavour across every course. My starter consisted of a hollowed-out beetroot filled with a bland purée - it was supposed to resemble coffee and walnut but it was tasteless, to me it had the consistency and appearance of baby food. At approximately £15 per course (based on a 2 course menu), it was astronomically overpriced. The same (or at least very similar) sauce made appearances in two other plates. In fairness with my husband's choice of stater (Velouté) a decent effort was made, so it was sad that the flavours were completely overpowered with an intense artificial truffle taste (truffle oil), as opposed to garnished with fresh truffle. My celeriac main course was lacking in quantity and it was lacking texture and flavour. The cauliflower main course was more substantial and had an array of flavours, but we could not correlate the plate to the description on the menu and weren’t convinced the flavours actually complimented each other. From a service perspective being sat downstairs next to the kitchen was far from ideal. You could hear the timer ticking off every few minutes along with a constant flurry of waiters/waitresses taking food upstairs and bringing empty plates downstairs. Sat where we were, we felt slightly 'put aside'. During the meal we were not asked if we needed anything and I cannot recall being asked about my food. My husband had finished his drink just after the main and wanted to order another drink but unfortunately did not have an opportunity to. We also proceeded to upstairs to the front to pay the bill after waiting sometime. Given the phenomenal reviews I really wanted to surprise my husband for his 30th birthday and I brought him all the way from our home in London with such high expectations. With regret, in our experience it did not deliver. After spending £40 per person for once piece of Arancini, two courses and one drink each we left hungry, disappointed and overcharged. I’m left little confused and quite sad I had to feed him fast food afterwards.

I used to really like Acorn and it was somewhere I would go when I wanted something a bit better than standard restaurant food. It used to be great at showcasing vegetarian and vegan cooking. I have been here on a couple of occasions recently and they now offer 'plates' rather than start and main options. Many of the dishes taste the same and seem to be comprised of similar ingredients (most dishes contain nuts) and so you can end up eating two plates of almost the exact same food. In addition, the portions are incredibly small. I am in no way a 'big' eater but I didn't expect to leave the restaurant feeling hungry. I thought it was expensive for what it was, with a £10 service charge added on. I won't be back in a hurry.

The food at Acorn is beautifully served, very "upscale", and very tasty creative dishes made with vegetables. You don't get "fake" anything here (like fake burgers, fake chicken, etc), but superb vegan creativity. However, the portions are very small and the price is very high. We didn't feel satiated. On the dinner menu we chose a selection of "plates" which allows you to taste different foods (it might be the only option, but perhaps you can choose a large plate), and they are each the amount of a small starter course. Just started out on my vegan journey so this may be a little unfair due to limited experience. Vastly overpriced- £11 per dish for burnt “bovril “broth. A few stalks and leaves . Not at all impressed

It's not easy finding somewhere that has really upscale veggie dining that doesn't mean a drive all the way to London. I had really high expectations from Acorn and they did not disappoint. Myself and my fiance had the taster menu with the wine flight, which was all beautifully paired with gorgeous seasonal flavours.

I do not like being told that I need 4-5 £9 'small plates' in order to have a proper dinner. I do not like paying £9 for 4 strips of unseasoned chard in a 150 ml of vegan gravy with a molecular smear of pureed squash. I do not like watching my friend eat a beautiful mountain of 'cauliflower five ways' that cost £9 also. (The 'nibbles' were great: arancini, fresh bread with nut butter, olives)

Really tasty dishes liked that we got to try lots of different things. Wine was nice, not too expensive. The building is very small but, so we went to the bar opposite to wait for our table.

Visited this fully vegan restaurant at lunchtime. Friendly young staff. Lovely decor. Food delicious but very small portions. Such a shame as our abiding memory is one of poor value for money rather than the food itself.

I went last weekend with a friend really excited to taste the food having head good things about this place. On arrival the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and explained the menu well. My friend and I decided to share 6 of the main plates between us and then a dessert each. When the food arrived it was very nicely presented and explained by staff. Unfortunately nearly all of it was very underwhelming and lacked flavour. Only the celeriac dish was tasty and memorable.

OK, so I WAS a vegetarian for some 15 years, ending about 15 years ago. So myself and partner do lean in this direction. But we are also quite foodie. We've eaten in some very fine restaurants (Michellin) in our time. This is not a boast, this is to give credibility to this statement. 'The Acron' is one of the best restaurants we have eaten in, vegetarian or not. I'll also add that we took our teenage son on this occasion, who also loved it. I'll sum it up... if you can get a table, book it. You won't be disappointed.

If this place wasn't vegan it would probably have a michelin star. It even has reasonable wines that aren't marked up too high. Good enough for carnivores not to miss meat either.

I’m a meat-eater but for once I wanted my vegetarian friend to have a larger menu choice, rather than just one or two options. We came here on a Monday night for dinner. Staff were friendly and showed us to our table which had a lovely view of the abbey. The food is to die for. We had broham beetroots, fine herbs and cultured cashew puree for starters, rich mushroom parfait, celeriac cooked in its own juice, hazelnut, potato, chicory for mains and chocolate ganache with coffee parfait cold brew and rapadura gel and pink peppercorn crumb for dessert. They catered very well for my gluten-free diet. The flavours were just incredible. Service was excellent throughout and even though I thought it would be quiet being a Monday night, it was really quite busy so there was a great atmosphere. Highly recommended - make sure you book in advance.

My wife, who eats fish and chicken but leans towards the vegetarian if it is offered is almost my polar opposite when it comes to dining choices, and so she was startled to discover that on a three-week tour through Ireland and England I'd chosen The Acorn as one of the restaurants I'd booked.

We've been going to Acorn for a long time and this visit to Bath provided us enough time to dine twice in one week. The portions are always satisfying and I can highly recommend the Mushroom Parfait. We have always had great service, we always are the first through the door for dinner, it has always been such a relaxed experience and the menu/food is always a treat. We're not foodies or techies but this time my husband decided to take a shot of his dinner to share with others. We will yet again return to Acorn next time we are in the area. While I'll never be able to cook like this I can at least continue to lean more often in this direction for eating/dining choices for which I'm sure I will benefit and definitely enjoy.

Came tonight for my partner’s birthday. Have to say the food was sublime and truly recommended for vegans or vegetarians. The service was also excellent. Just disappointing that the owners/managers ignored my email sent a couple of days before about this being a special occasion for my partner’s birthday. So sad when arrogance gets in the way of a great restaurant.

I came here with my husband and toddler for dinner. The food was delicious! The flavour combinations weren't anything I had tried before and it worked really well. The staff were polite and friendly. There wasn't a kids menu but they were very tolerant of my toddler messily feeding herself pasta that I had brought with us. We had 3 courses, all of which were stunning.

This was our second time at Acorn, and for the second time, we were blown away! The food is incredible! It tastes like mushroom or broccoli or whatever it is but then it tastes like no mushroom or broccoli I've ever tasted!! It was amazing! We took ages choosing our dessert, simply because they all sounded perfect. I had the strawberries with olive oil parfait, fennel carpaccio and Scots pine. It was heavenly. I'm sure even meat-eaters would not fail to be impressed.

Consistently delicious, imaginative dishes. On this visit we tried the broccoli, which is a nose-to-tail affaire using the stalk and the florets, it was excellent. My friend had the. mushroom parfait, smooth and rich with oyster mushrooms, chicory and a velvety sauce. The wine was very reasonable, natural and well recommended by our French waiter. We will be back soon.

As the availability of plant-based foods increase in restaurants, it's great to know that somewhere like Acorn exists, where you can get food that privileges vegetables in delicious and innovative ways, without resorting to either the staple fare of vegan dining or leaving you feel disassociated from the act of eating by being too off the wall. Dishes like the Mushroom parfait with celeriac and chicory have embedded themselves in my food memory and I am looking forward to trying the coffee infused cauliflower on my next visit. I only wish they would bring the Sunday roast back! Having dined here on a regular basis over the last four years its become one of my go to restaurants whenever I want top notch food, irrespective of whether that's vegan or not.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We went as a party of 4 and had the 7 course tasting menu. A tasting menu with 7 courses for £54 initially seems like reasonable value and, in terms of variety and flavours it is. However, the courses are absolutely miniscule even for a tasting menu and you can see how they make so much profit. One of the courses was literally an elaborately presented brocoli stem. A brocoli stem. For £8 per portion. Granted, it was delicious brocoli, but really you should not have to pay meat prices for a brocoli stem. I appreciate its a vegan restaurant and it is remarkable the flavours and taste they manage to get out of vegetables, however it is unbelievably poor value for money. Another portion was a few cut strawberries and some flat sourdough, again for £8 a portion. The best dish was a Japanese mushroom dish which was at least slightly well padded out with beans and a jelly, and utterly delightful. However, I still can't recommend as I came away hungry after spending £250 for 4 people. It was also somewhat cheeky adding a £30 gratuity onto the bill which you would have to ask to be removed. Many won't notice or be too polite to request its removal. The staff were fantastic and incredibly friendly but I'd much rather offer a cash tip of my own accord (which I did) than be pressured into a £30 gratuity on the bill. Was a nice enough experience but not at all worth the money.

We visited for lunch but decided to eat from the main menu, even though the lunch menu seemed good value for money. The starter was ok, but one can’t go wrong frying squid and calamari. The portion of ‘mayo’ was very small. For the main course we both wanted to have a chicken chimichanga. It was extremely bland and not good value for money. It was quite tasteless, the beans were very runny and there was a measly portion of mayo, tomato and guacamole. The waiter/manager was friendly enough, but his unbuttoned fly and untucked shirt, with belly hanging over his jeans, didn’t do much for our appetites. Overall a very disappointing and expensive lunch. Not recommended.
