A great place for coffee and cake on our bike ride from Ullapool, no complaints about the food and drink. Covid-19 measures in place with a takeaway only service, which we were fine with. We enjoyed our takeaway outside, but noticed there were no bins, so I went back inside to ask if I could leave the boxes from the cakes and the coffee cups. I was told I couldn't and that there was a bin at the end of the village. We cycled a couple of miles down the road and only found a bottle bank. Not wanting to dump the rubbish, we had to stuff the packaging into our cycling gear and cycle 25 miles to dispose of it! If we'd have known there were no bins, we wouldn't have bothered. My understanding is that takeaway establishments have to provide bins.

Stopped at the Piping School Cafe while staying in Ullapool and exploring the stunning scenery of Assynt and Ross and Cromarty. Takeaway only at the moment but a nice choice of food and done really well. We drove a short way to a beautiful site overlooking the Summer Isles and watched dolphins, while eating our lunch. Gorgeous weather and no midges at the time.

Open for take out only but still providing a great service and food. We just had the homemade mackerel pate to take out with oat crackers and had some GF crackers too. And cheese and ham sarnies. Impressed as they’re in the middle of nowhere and some of the larger places we’ve visited couldn’t offer GF bread. Lovely lunch.

Sadly I missed my summer visits this year due to having to travel to the Far East. However a couple of weeks in October provided an opportunity for several visits to the Piping School Café before it closed for the winter.Excellent as always with all sorts of odd diets catered for brilliantly and menu items which without exception turn out to be much more generous than might be expected. Don't miss their Angus burgers -- and while we're at it, the chips here are amongst the very best you'll find anywhere in the world.

This was one of the attractions for us regarding staying in the Achiltibuie area again - and it was every bit as good as we remembered, - in fact the cakes (incredibly) may be even better - lemon and lime; chocolate and Guinness and - a new one for me - banana and carrot... the giant fishfinger baps are still excellent, as is the Earl Grey tea - and having walked for 5 miles in fine rain I rewarded myself with a big hot chocolate with cream and mini-marshmallows; wonderful!. Staff are friendly and cheerful and the service prompt - and watching the birds on the imaginatively constructed bird feeder (animal horns on a pole) is an absolute delight - definitely our favourites cafe in Scotland!

It looks rather unprepossessing and attracted us initially because it is the only real cafe for miles around. However, we have returned there many, many times during our fortnight's holiday because the cakes are so delicious! The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is information about the area - the building itself is a key part of local history. Great views over the many bird tables - and there are bird books, etc. to help you identify them.Brilliant for coffee and cake and also for lunches - do try the jumbo fish finger baps! All the cakes are made on the premises and there is a breathtaking array, - our favourites include carrot, lemon and lime and chocolate and Guinness, but they are all good.

The food was nice e.g. home made soup, salads and hot meals but also a fantastic selection of cakes. Portions very generous I kept half my cake to take away for the next day. The staff were lovely and our favourite thing was the bird feeder just outside the window with a guide at your table to identify the birds...We had 4 goldfinches to look at while we had lunch. Only drawback is It's not open in the evenings but for lunch or an early supper (if you had kids and want to feed them by 6pm) it is perfect.

Hello again ! This place is another case of, hunting for an elusive pick nick spot or shop to buy food on the road, only to fail miserably at finding either and ending up having lunch in the most improbable place. It does say piping school café. And yes it is a piping school with many a picture of the people in kilts playing baggies. And yes, it does have a café, serving cake, coffee and tea. And Glorious cake it was! but i'll have a word on that later. What this place does not advertise is it's rather simple but delicious menu of burgers, salads, sandwiches and plates of home made scottish delights. All prepared by the ladies of the restaurant. The service was impeccable as usual in these remote areas. Smiles and welcome as a staple of Scottish hospitality. The Restaurant area is doubled by a terrasse of sorts , and if you're in luck the sun hits the terrasse with the usual seaside golden ferocity. Add to that a slight breeze and all of a sudden a simple wooden bench becomes heaven. Of course if the weather is "scottish" : stay indoors. That being said , the restaurant eating space is sunny and comfortable. But that "terrasse" , well it's just a door to the garden with a few wooden benches, was about as good as it gets.I sat down on said bench, and was rejoined by the cyclist we kept passing on the road to get to Achiltibuie. The gentleman had veggie curry and tea which looked the treat. As for me, well the menu was as expected and a tad bit more! This little traveler had the angus burger with a side of fries and a salad. all well served, cooked as expected, delicious and filling. Then there was that cake, which once again put everything in perspective. The cakes where sooooo good, we almost tried all of them. I think we left the chocolate one and at the fudge. The lemon tart, the lime key, the banana chocolate and the apple was wolfed down by the whole group in short order with cries of "MOAR" heard ever so often in between squeaks of joy.to summize : simple delicious wholesome food served with a smile under the sun with a view of the sea. Difficult to beat!

From the outside this cafe set in a wooden former piping school does not look very inviting but the welcome was warm. We were able to get a table by the window overlooking the bird feeder and were kept entertained by the antics of our feathered friends. The view out to sea was also very pleasant. There is Wifi available.Tea arrived, good old fashioned leaf tea with a jug of hot water and a tea strainer (some younger customers had never come across this idea before). There was a choice of 5 or 6 types of cake, my lemon cake was really good and the portion size generous. Cost for two came to £9.We returned later in the week and although we didn't get a prized window-table we enjoyed our second visit as much as the first.

There was a stunning view of The Summer Isles from the window - and birds on a nearby bird feeder provided humour and entertainment. While in the area we visited Achnahaird beach and took a (dog friendly) pre-booked boat trip to The Summer Isles.

Well, visited here during a 72 hour stop out in Achiltibuie. We arrived at the cafe, went in through the hand knitted clothing selection and home made cakes and got to the cosy wee cafe at the back. Some nice views out the window but unfortunately it was rather foggy. (picture 1) personally I ordered a black pudding and lorne roll, which was presented beautifully - with a little tomato and fresh greens from the garden. I cut it in half to sample both there brown and red sauce (Tesco value - no idea where the Tesco is though) and would recommed the red sauce. Moist. Can't forget to mention how moist the chocolate cake was. Also lastly the "cakes" they have that you can have with cheese, fruit and or cream - they are good. Would highly recommend before there all scone.... Don't forget to ask for some doggy biscuits as all dogs are welcome! We asked just because we could, and we don't even have a dog! Remember to quote " Ullapool pipe band - yahoo" for 10% off your total bill

Well, not really the end. You have to walk a few steps from there to really be at the end of the world. But then you turn around trace your steps back, get into the Café, have some nice cuppa and the scones to go with it and you know: There must be heaven after you cross this border at the end of the worlsd :-)

What a spot to have a cuppa and a nibble. Friendly service and good wholesome food. They were doing a brisk trade when we were there. It's good to see that the village has something like this after the demise of the Hydroponics place which is now rubble.

Not many opportunities in the area to have a coffee and a relax, but this was perfect.Lots of local art work displayed, wonderful looking homemade cakes and excellent service. Was quiet while we were there but it is quite small so could get busy.

Lovely home made soup and savoury scones - delicious. Bacon and black pudding roll which needed two hands to hold it & control it. Lovely friendly staff. Great value for money. Our dog was welcome there too and was given her own little plate of dog biscuits/treats ♥️

Recently visited the piping school cafe twice. It is a bit tucked away, with great views. Parking is possible outside, but does fill up quickly. There is another car park across the road you can use too which is much larger. Friendly service and a good choice on offer on the regular menu. Which is supplemented by daily specials. I really enjoyed the angus burgers. There is a wide range of homemade cakes on offer too. Sundays the cafe seems to very busy at lunchtime.

Stopped here for a late am snack of a pot of decaf tea and a Lorne Sausage & Egg Roll which was very good [£6].It is a nice little café several other visitors there as well and it would have a great view of the Summer Isles if I could have seen them for the low cloud/misty weather.Worth a visit when in the area.

We made the detour down to Achiltibuie whilst doing the NC500 and stopped for tea and cake at the cafe. Wonderful views accompanied fresh home bakes (vegan chocolate cake is highly recommended) and freshly made 'real' tea.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

Stopped for the night while doing the NC500 with my husband and 8 + 9 year old kids, one of the only places in Thurso that you can have a sit down meal! Absolutely delicious meal, got the chicken Ceylon roll as a starter and it came out piping hot and so fresh!! The flavours were absolutely amazing! My husband had the medium spice chicken Ceylon curry and said it was amazing, the flavours and spices were absolutely spot on! I had the mild beef Ceylon curry and it was equally as good! All cooked fresh to order and you can tell as it was piping hot and so fresh to taste! There is a children’s menu for the fussier eaters, my daughter had spaghetti and my son had a burger and there was no complaints from them! Our first time trying Sri Lanka food and won’t be our last thanks to this restaurant! Staff are delightful as well☺️
