Achari in Bolton

Had take away from here recently. The curry was very greasy and had no flavour to it. Small portion and very expensive. Very friendly staff though!

We pre booked a table for 2 over the phone. Easy enough to make the booking. As I am a Tastecard holder, I explained that I would be using the Tastecard when making the booking over the phone. This was something stipulated on the Tastecard app for this restaurant. The gentleman on the phone accepted this and said he had booked us in. When we arrived at the relatively quiet restaurant for our meal, we were taken to our table and ordered our food. At no point during our meal, were we asked if our food was okay. I suppose this is what some customers may prefer but the table next to us did get asked by a member of staff. Food wise, the food was okay. It was warm and cooked but the Rogan Josh was overloaded with large chunks of peppers. There wasn't a balance of ingredients in the curry and it lacked the medium level spice one would expect from rogan josh. My friend ordered a chicken tikka. The chicken was slightly rubbery in texture. Whilst we don't think that the food was badly cooked, it wasn't spectacular either. Standard are underwhelming are perhaps the most apt adjectives. Once we had finished our food, our table was cleared. We waited for our bill and even looked in the direction of the member of staff who was very attentive towards the table of 4 next to us but didn't get his attention despite looking over at him numerous times. After waiting, we realised that nobody was coming to ask if we wanted our bill or any afters. We decided to walk over to the bar area. This next point is where we felt the service was very poor. When we asked for our bill at the bar area, we were told to choose our bill. There were 3 bill receipts put on the counter already laid out. The member of staff joked, I bet you'll choose the cheapest one. We initially took this as a joke. Ours wasn't the cheapest. I pointed at our bill and he commented, you went for the cheapest. At this point, I corrected him and said it wasn't. When I looked at the bill, I explained that they failed to put the Tastecard discount on. I explained that I met with their requirements that the table was pre booked and at the time, I mentioned the taste card on the phone. He then checked a diary book which clearly had my booking on. At this point, he said we needed to mention the Tastecard when ordering our food to avoid this kind of embarrassment. I said I didn't think I needed to as the requirements were to mention it when pre booking, which I did. He then changed the bill but acted very off towards us. Had this gentleman read his booking properly then he would have known or discussed the bill with us before printing it off. We pay for our Tastecard subscription and if Achari don't like honouring the discount then simply don't participate in the scheme. We won't be visiting again. The food was underwhelming, the.service too and the attitude of the colleague at the end was disappointing. 2 stars because the food was okay and the table was clean.

We visit quite regularly but this visit was a bit different. The curry tasted as though it wasn't fully mixed and was gritty. Starters were lovely though. Service was very slow even though it was quiet. Asked for the bill a few times and it didn't come. Ended up getting it as we left. We will wait a while before going back but will try again.

Called in on a Sunday evening- they do an excellent Sunday deal and the place was packed. The staff were excellent and served everyone very efficiently. The food was lovely, definitely the best lamb tikka we have ever had - lean and tender and a generous portion. Excellent value for money and lovely staff. 10/10

My friend and I visited this place and we absolutely loved it. The food was excellent along with the exemplary service from Ali. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He even went out of his way and made us "pineapple fritters" - lovely! You won't be disappointed going to Achari. Thanks to Ali and staff.

We have visited the Achari many times over the years and always enjoyed. We generally stick with familiar dishes. This time after Ali had taken our order, he proposed that next time we should allow him to choose. We appreciated Ali’s confidence and challenged him to change our order as he saw fit. Well done Ali and the team, it was an excellent meal. We look forward to our next visit, Ali’s choice!

Takeaway! I don’t normally review places but credit where credits due! Following a past mix up with my order (being given the wrong takeaway), I was offered a free takeaway when I next wanted to order which was honoured tonight. The food was delicious and we received an extra free starter. Thank you for your excellent customer service, we’ll be returning again soon and would recommend to anyone looking for a new place to try.

Three of us called without pre-booking a table. We were greeted by really friendly staff who managed to find us a table even though it was really busy. The food was excellent with good-sized portions and we were given trays to take our left overs home

Another excellent meal. Food piping hot. Garlic lamb balti a stand out. Fantastic deal on a Sunday. Don’t know how they do it. Service from Ali and his staff is excellent. To be honest there is nothing I can fault. As soon as I ring up to book they know who I am without having to give my name. That’s what I call personal service. An excellent restaurant.

Decided to try somewhere new to us and we weren’t disappointed! Great food, Friendly staff and good service on top of that the restaurant was busy being a Friday night and the atmosphere inside was lovely. I enjoy a nice onion bhaji and of late wherever we go they just aren’t great but here has to have been my favourite onion bhaji I’ve had in many a year and my wife agreed as she normally doesn’t bother due to them not being nice, this was fresh, tasty crispy and a lovely way to start the meal. I had the chicken tikka biryani which was plentiful and well cooked, my wife had the lamb samber which was tender and flavoursome with the right amount of heat not too overpowering where you can’t taste anything just spot on so you could enjoy the flavours of the dish, naans were also tasty and would highly recommend a meal here!

Absolutely recommend the Naan bread. Best Naan bread ever! Food was lovely and most waiters are very pleasant and polite. Been here a few times now and never had any major issues that were not resolved without an issue. We had a mixed starter and Lamb Bhuna which was very lovely. I’ve visited here many times and always found the food and service good and recommended to people several times but after my experience today I won’t be going again. When we booked the table we informed them we had a Meerkat voucher (2 for 1) which you need a discount code for, which I brought with me. As soon as we walked through the door a man behind the bar demanded I show him the code before we sat down. I got the code up on my phone which I had previously screenshot earlier in the day so it was easily accessible when they needed it but the man with a very smug face started to shake his head at me telling me they don’t accept screenshots, I then said no problem I can go into the app and show you there if needed, which I did. He then took my phone off me and asked for my name to check it matched. I have never had this experience anywhere else using this code, it made me feel like I was doing something wrong. The restaurant sign up to take part in the meerkat scheme and that’s what brought my custom to them, I wouldn’t mind but the attitude that he had thinking he had caught me out shocked me. We then sat and ordered mains, 3 different curries and all tasted and looked exactly the same when they were supposed to be different. I’ve seen other reviews also say this. All were swimming with oil and not very nice. With my previous experience with the waiter, I didn’t want to make a scene so we ate what was edible and just left. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone again and I will not be returning. Seems to have gone way down hill and that particular waiter needs to chill out, driving customers away

What a disgrace! what a shame because someone in our party has been before and had an excellent time. So she booked for her Birthday Firstly we arrived here at opening time so there is no excuse for the dirty tables and table cloths. We were seated at a table which was to small for the amount of people we had booked for. They said its because our amount of people had changed, when in fact the group only got smaller not larger so that's irrelevant as the table still would off been to small. We were then change tables to a table which had filthy and crusty table covers. Surrounding by peeling wallpaper and dirty chairs. The table cloths were changed but half of the tables wasn't until halfway through the meal. Secondly half of our party ordered Cobra on draught We were then told that it wasn't working and kingfisher was on offer instead. They brought the beer in bottles not draught and that was not explained. obviously bottles equal more cost. Next came our starters and popadoms. The starters that came were actually very good so I will be fair to say that. However our selection of poppadoms were a mixed bag. Some were good, but some were really chewy and stale. We then waited over an hour for our main courses. I do understand that they were busy and most tables were big sitters. However when we had ordered before them we expect our order to come first. When we did get our food it was shocking the standard of food of which we received. Two of us ordered two different paneer curries which both were cold and uncooked. We order this curry every curry house we go to and have never experienced paneer like this. It was stone cold and very hard with a sour taste. Almost as of it had just been put in the heated sauce before coming out to the table. Another curry was swimming in oil and was not edible and even the server understood and was shocked at the amount of oil on the dish. Potatoes were not cooked in another curry and we had two butter chickens on the table which were both completely different flavours. We mentioned this to the server at the time however he said he didn't believe that the dishes were horrible. He only believed the one with the oil as he could see it. We then offered him to taste them. He could clearly see that everyone had not eaten there curry and was a clear indication that it wasn't very nice. Of course we wanted to eat as we came out to eat. All he said he can offer at first was a free baileys. which you get anyway in every curry house I've been to complimentary with a large booking. We then expressed our unhappiness and he offered to take off the price of two curries. Which was poor considering 6 curries were not eaten. The the bill came and the free round of drink s he offered us were not taken off and then the £50 deposit was not taken off either. so we had to get that changed. once we left we were approached by the manager who was friendly but only offered us 2 £10 vouchers to return we expressed we wouldn't be retuning. He explained they were really busy the previous day. But in all honesty y that's irrelevant. I really would not visit here again. I certainly do not advise you go yourself. You can see how the manager argues to each review on google because they need to defend themselves when the food should always speak volumes for itself and you should never have to tackle customers. Take things professionally

The place was heaving as it was Christmas day but the service was excellent and the food was spot on as usual . The owner, Sanu always finds time to talk to his customers whether they are regulars or new to make sure everything is OK with the food and service

Booked a table a couple of days previous, turned up and it was busy, but luckily we had one of our group running late and it worked out nicely to come back half an hour later. Seated quickly on our return, served drinks quick and food orders taken the same. Drinks came out, id ordered a coke, glass was very warm, straight out of the dishwasher, so ice was well on its way to melting already! Starters came out, all very good, onion bagees were a tad small but very good to eat. Mains very good, hot, lots of flavour but not face melting hot. Overall very reasonably priced meal between 4 of us(30quid each) , good service, nothing to moan about unless im being really picky.

Love this restaurant.. we live in Scotland but drive here to see family and this is our first choice for restaurants in Bolton. Excellent food and great table service.. We always come back

Enjoyed the food and the pace of services was just right, not too slow or to fast. We were surprised how popular the place was on a Monday evening.

We went on a Sunday evening and they have a Sunday deal on which was £17pp for poppadoms with dips, starter, main, rice or chips each. The naan and dips is between 2. This was good value and more food than we thought! The mains were very nice. We got southern garlic balti and bengal balti. I enjoyed the tikka starter. The onion bhaji wasn't as good though. I'd definitely come back again as there was a few mains I wanted to try. Never tried the delivery option but would also consider that.

Had a delivery and ordered a set meal and the two curry’s had zero meat! The two trays of curry were small and you could not tell the difference between the two, they looked and tasted the same. Separately was some chicken! Do you mix this with the bland sauce? How knows!! Thrown it away and made a sandwich! Never again!

Visited with 3 friends. We opted for a banquet for two then added some extra dishes. The food was really delicious, could not fault it. The restaurant was very busy and a tad noisy, but would definitely go again. Best Indian food I’ve tasted in years, if not the best. Staff very friendly.

This is now our go to Indian restaurant. First visited on a recommendation and we were not disappointed and have been back several times since.The food,service and value for money is spot on, they do a special on Sunday which is such good value! No wonder it’s so busy. Curry is my favourite food so absolutely no complaints from me.Hands down the best in Bolton.

Great food, efficient service, good portion sizes and a bit of variety on the menu. Despite being full our reserved table was available and waiting when we arrived which doesn't happen everywhere especially on a busy Friday night. Excellent curry house and we've tried lots all over.

We first came for a meal here in May this year after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor. Our usual Indian restaurant was closed on a Sunday! It’s the one in Dunscar…. Thank god that it was closed otherwise we may not have tried the Achari restaurant. The service and the food was excellent! This is without doubt the best Indian restaurant in Bolton! This is now our go to restaurant for a curry and we have also had a few takeaways which are of an equally exceptional standard. The last order we made there was a minor error with the chapati missing and give them their due they delivered it within 15mins to our home! Superb customer experience and lovely food!

One of our group recommended this place having been there a few times. None of the others knew of it but not about it. So we booked. Were we disappointed? NO we definitely were not. We were welcomed on arrival in a very friendly manner. We were shown straight away to our booked table and shortly after we ordered our drinks. They came within a short space of time and then we were asked about our food order. We all settled for a popadom and a main with rice. Apart from a tiny amount we all cleared our plates. What more could you ask for? We all said When are we returning. Soon I hope.
