What a fantastic place . The owners are so friendly and the food is amazing and a really good price. Such a bargain what you get for 20 pounds a head. I wish I lived closer I would be a regular. Keep up the great work . Us hikers appreciate you so much.

Lots of signs inviting you for cafe and cake. Then you have to buy lunch ..... And if not they tell you its private land! Bit of a trading standards issue with the "invitation to treat" Best give this place a wide berth....

Don’t believe the haters, this place is an amazingly unique place, that all serious hikers will love. The couple are as friendly as you could wish for, particularly as they have spent decades resisting the powers of corporate UK. They love their land and provide a highlight for walkers in the area. Great food, couldn’t do enough for us. I’d just like to know, from the people slagging the place off, when you go into your local cafe, do you just order a coff before unpacking your own meal from your bag??

A super-friendly welcome, and amazing food! A big bowl of homemade soup, cheese and oatcakes, olives and tomatoes, blueberries, and a slice of fresh-baked lemon cake as big as your head – plus a big china pot of loose-leaf tea. The place is completely off-grid, delightfully quirky, and set in the middle of woodlands. Your fellow diners are walkers and bike riders, transiting along the Great Glen Way, and there's a tremendous sense of fellowship and great craic, with folk comparing journeys. This is a wonderful and memorable stop, not to be missed. There are a few poor reviews posted here - to which I can say that (as in everything else) if you arrive with an open heart, you'll be met with the same. Will definitely come here again.

DON’T BOTHER, I wouldn’t recommend stopping here even to my worst enemy who was without water in the Sahara dessert. This is a very strange place. We stopped for some tea and cake as we had already bought some packed lunches as the guidebook advised. After finding the bell and calling for attention we sat at some water logged benches in the middle of some swamped land and started to unpack our lunches. No signs about not eating our own food. We had a conversation with a young family who warned us there was no menu or prices. We should have heeded their advice! A couple appeared a few minutes later, the lady was warm but the man was immediately rude to our son for having food on the table. We tried to ask about cake and tea but were told we had to listen to the full explanation. I wanted to charge my phone and started to plug it in. The man shouted at our entire group to pay attention to his wife. We decided to leave and he then became very aggressive and intimidating. Standing over us while we packed our bags and escorting us off their “premises” (public land). The young family smiled nervously at us as we left, we were worried for them.

Awful experience. We had purchased some lunch beforehand (as the guide books we had, Awful experience. We had purchased some lunch beforehand (as the guide books we had, suggested you couldn’t rely on the cafe being open) however given it was open we wanted to stop for some tea and lemon cake. The female owner was friendly enough however her male companion was beyond rude and took offence that we wanted tea and cake only alongside our sandwiches. Furthermore one of our party of 5 was backing up his photos and this led to us being asked to leave as all of us weren’t giving our undivided attention as the inflexible menu was being explained. He then followed us out trying to intimidate us. What a clown. If you’re a walker doing the 20 mile stretch of the Great Glen Way to/from Inverness I suggest you give this place a miss. I thought all the volcanoes in Scotland were extinct but we found one that is still very active.

We called in last year, whilst hiking GGW, and feared the worst based on the reviews, but it was so good, we planned a cycle ride there today. And we'll go back Yes, it's unusual and the folk are quirky. They serve lunch. That's it. When you only have a handful of tables and you go from noone to everyone in the space of half an hour, i guess you have to prioritize your trade. Plus some days doubtless it's empty The food is superb, really filling, a huge bowl of soup, cheese, salad items, oat cakes and amazing cake. Try getting all that anywhere else, along with a huge pot of coffee, for 20 quid. The coffee alone would be 5-6, the cake another 5, the soup 8-10, then you've all the extra goodies. It's odd, it's an experience, and it's delicious. Go with an open mind. Ps we don't find it remotely creepy, some of you guys are weirdly sensitive!!

We were looking forward to refreshing drinks as advertised on their signs, they said it wasnt worth their while selling just that and we would have to buy a meal and drink as a full package. We were on a budget and only wanted a drink. So we sat down for a wee rest and they came up and said tables are for paying guests and aggresively moved us on. We thought the woman was especially creepy, we had asked her how long they had lived on the land and she said since she got out and left an uncomfortable 30 seconds before she said only joking?. We were glad to get away from there.

I was prepared to be enchanted - after many miles' walk in the rain on the Great Glen Way the hand-drawn signs along the woodland path holding out promises of food and drink lured me to Abriachan. I was expecting homespun hippy hospitality but was a bit taken aback by the shacks, mud and general squalor. Thinking better of the idea I turned to leave when the hostess shot out of the house and successfully caught me. It seemed rude not to stay and my greed got the better of me, so I asked for tea and cake. She brought a pot of tea and a very large slice of what she described as 'traditional Highland lemon cake' which I consumed perched in one of the shacks. When she returned she wrote out an invoice - for £9 !!!Why hadn't I asked the price beforehand? Why did I sign the bit of paper, and cough up the money?I left feeling so disappointed - not just because I'd been so badly overcharged for a slice of supermarket cake, but because I'd allowed myself to believe that this would be a magic eco-cafe in the woods, offering genuine hospitality. My gullibility was well and truly taken advantage of. Sad.

My friend and I rather foolishly decided to hike the Great Glen Way in 4 days, wild camping en route without much experience in either long distance walking or carrying massive bags + tents. Spots like the Abriachan eco cafe were the only reason we made it through. On the final day, having camped overnight in Abriachan forest, we were several miles from the nearest settlement in either direction and were desperately in need of some TLC. Luckily, the hand-painted signs pointed us in the direction of the cafe which is actually basically on the Great Glen Way route. We arrived to a rustic and gorgeous outdoor seating area with chickens running underfoot and were given a super cheery welcome from the owners. We didn't have much cash on us but the owners were absolute legends and gave us a discount so we could afford to order enough for both of us. As such, we had enough money for a vat of fresh bean and veggie soup, a massive cafetiere of much needed coffee, a huge glass of freshly squeezed juice and, of course, the absolutely delicious lemon cake.I cannot recommend this place enough. Yes, it isn't the cheapest but the portions are huge and the food quality was just superb! The soup came with oat cakes and hunks of cheese and the lemon cake was just perfection. Places like this are an absolute godsend to those travelling long distances, away from civilization. Please do stop in and visit, give them custom and keep them going - they're super friendly and it was such a lovely respite from the hard walking.

Admonished by beardie for cycling as it churned up the path we were invited to sit in the swamp affectionately called an eco cafe. Totally exposed to the elements, the 8 gents were invited to use the hay bale as a urinal. No menu, just a choice of tea or coffee, and lemon cake. Sizeable portion and fresh so no complaints. But £70 for 8 drinks and cake. Despite being mud splattered we clearly looked too affluent. If the prices were displayed I suspect there may be plenty who walk past. We were close to the turning round point of our GGW trek, having started in Drumnadrochit much earlier. The hand made café signs were appealing and luring, so as we neared we thought "why not". Lovely host, with a beard, appeared a la Mr Benn, so polite, took our order and seated us. Presently juice, coffee and cake arrived, as did Squeek, and we settled down, outdoors under a beautiful blue sky to relax and refuel. Of course the site isn't 'clean' and yes its a bit overpriced based on other experiences, but it's likely a one-off and fair play to the owners for being there and entertaining us before we set off again!

Day 1 of us walking the GGW we stumbled across this little gem! As we approached they have the most random signs which kind of reminded me of those old school horror movies where you go missing and wake up in a bath of ice missing a kidney! Obviously not the case proper good banter with the staff and animals a bit disappointed we didn’t see the pig! Yes it was a bit pricy at 20 quid for 4 cups of tea but well worth every penny of the farther in laws cash! As it was more like 4 cups each as it came in a massive pot. Just a quick one there are a lot of other reviews where people / snowflakes have been moaning about price just remember if you don’t want to pay a fiver for a pot of tea just wait 5 hours until you get to Inverness there is a McDonald’s which may suit your needs better. Best little random find which is hilarious highly recommend a cheeky tea break!

You sit amongst chickens , foliage, old, collapsing tables and dogs whilst your rather eccentric hostess runs about carrying heavy trays of food and drink for which you are charged a fixed amount irrespective of what you actually have and then before leaving there is the obligatory photo for Facebook. A must stop along the Great Glen Way. The amusing signs leading you to the Cafe are creative and fun to read. We had sunny, warm weather so I don't know what it would be like if it were cold and rainy, but we were fortunate to have seating on the "deck". My wife and I each ordered a sandwich and to our surprise, each order actually consisted of 2 sandwiches so the food was plentiful, delicious and wonderfully presented. They are committed to using locally sourced organic products in their food which was a pleasant surprise.

If you are walking the Great Glen Way or visiting Abriachan at all -you must visit this café. We saw the signs and could tell this was going to be a little different. You wander up a bark path between the trees into the croft and we were welcomed by the lovely owner with her wonderful Orcadian accent. She showed us to the 'veranda' and returned a wee while later with a pot of fabulous coffee and homemade shortbread. She told us she doesn't have mains electricity . We were then joined by Henny Penny but were disappointed not to make the acquaintance of Squeak the Berkshire x Wild Boar who also roams around. So when you see the signs overcome any reservations and go in because you get such a warm welcome and fabulous coffee/food it really is an absolute delight.

We can only agree with the other reviews that say this is a must stop on the Great Glen Way. From the moment you see the jolly painted signs appearing on the track you know you're in for something different. The cafe is part of a croft and is quirky and charming. We were met with genuine warmth and sat on a rickety terrace while our host rustled up fresh juice and delicious coffee - far nicer than many high street coffees can muster! If you're walking the Great Glen Way, or just around the forest trails, it's well worth a stop.

The title are the words of my partner. What a great place. We stopped on the last day of walking the Great Glen Way and it was about half way through our final 20 or so miles. It was fantastic. Such loveely people who told us a few things but also left us to the peace of the area in a beautiful wooden perch. It is a wonderful place and you can see how it has been lovingly worked on and built up over the years. To think that it was just newly felled land when it was first taken on!To eat and drink we had:A slice of cake - one of the most delicious chocolate cakes I have ever hadA scone with jam and cream - brilliant2 cups of coffee which was a strong and flavoursome ColombianThe cheese and ham platter. Simply the best I have ever had. Cheese from the cows on the farm and ham from the black boars, two of which you can see roaming around. All for under £15 so do go. Also, had the opportunity to see more of the not so wildlife and took a selfie with one of the huskey / wolf crosses. Meeting them put the story of the Canadian lumberjacks who came over for WW2 into reality of today. Do go. We both loved it. I hope all who come overlook the lack of luxury but see the hospitality and beauty of simplicity.

We received a very warm welcome on our arrival. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the coffee I got was beautiful. The area surrounding the cafe is great and the path when you arrive really excites you before you reach the cafe itself. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is walking the Great Glen Way.

Four of us cycling stumbled across thei place. We had to invetsigate. Middle of nowhere (almost) and these coulourful signs led up up narrow paths to a sort of croft. Wonderful owners offered us drinks and food which we enjoyed (all home made) and we had never laughed so much all weekend with the anaimals trying to steal our shortbread and bread. Us townies, what are we like. Outdoorsey croft with chickens and pigs. If you have kids make sure you pop in. They will love this.

We stopped here on the final (long!) stage of the Great Glen Way. It was a perfect distance between drumnadrochit and Inverness and the signs leading us there were great. We had soup which was delicious accompanied by thick bread and chunks of cheese, all of which was amazing on a rubbish weather day. This was followed with amazing homemade tablet. The lady was lovely, kind and chatty and really cheered us up on a miserable day. The pigs and chickens were fantastic! Just great :-)

On the last day of walking the Great Glen Way we stopped at the Eco cafe. It's a very quirky, rustic cafe and like nothing I have ever visited. The owners are very friendly and funny and they made us laugh so much. There are plenty of food/drinks to choose from and the service was quick. We had lovely butteries with cream and jam and a nice pot of tea, it boosted us for the last leg of our journey!

I was riding the Great Glen Way with 2 friends when we unexpectedly came across the strange signs for the cafe, leading up a path off the GGW. With a bit suspicion, a bit curiosity we followed the path with a good dose of doubt whether there will indeed be a cafe at the end... and there was! Not what we could have ever imagined, but something much more interesting and unexpected! We were first greeted by a number of very healthy looking free range animals and then our very friendly host arrived as well. We stayed only for a tea, to warm up our limbs, but really enjoyed the experience! If you are in the area, do make sure to walk up to the 'cafe' and sample its offer and have a chat with the host. It will stay with you as a very nice and interesting memory.

This was our longest, and the last, day on the Great Glen Way and after a stiff climb into the forest and a long descent we were loving the little trail through the plantation coming up to the eco-cafe and intrigued by the hand-painted posts announcing "Bovril", "Real coffee", "hot chocolate", etc. After a while it became like a treasure hunt for tired walkers, each painted post spurring you on to want to see the next one! When we arrived we wove our way among the hens and pigs to the house where we had a warm and effusive welcome and very soon we were installed in a shelter against the snowstorm, on the decking with enormous mugs of tea and herbal tea. We didn't catch the owners' names but they are lovely people with a true vision that needs to be applauded - low impact, high quality. They even made it clear they were happy for us to eat our own packed lunches there. The composting toilet is clean and surprisingly fresh-smelling with lavender and rosemary plants on a shelf. The more people who discover and support this fabulous place, the better!

We stopped here on the last leg of our trip cycling the Great Glen Way. We were very hungry having climbed up from Drumnadrochit. Although the cafe is "off the grid" we were served real coffee, tea in a tea pot and huge mugs of hot chocolate. After big bowls of tasty home made soup, bacon rolls and cheese and ham toasties, we were so full we could only just free wheel the remaining miles to Inverness. The whole experience is wonderfully quirky and quite unique, food is served outside or under a shelter if it's wet and free range chickens and pigs roam around. Lunch here proved to be a highlight of our trip, not to be missed.

Calorosa accoglienza e ottimo ristoro.consigliato come sosta!

The 20 miles on the Great Glen Way has nowhere to stop for food, but now it does! The Abriachan Campsite (we weren't camping, but you can also camp there) has a very welcoming, very informal cafe. What they have on offer depends on the day, and on how well their generator is working. The day we stumbled in, there was plenty of ice, and several kinds of fruit juices. They can prepare food as well, but menu is quite limited . Mainly, though, it is an enchanting place to stop, sit down, have some refreshment, before you continue on the walk. We didn't want to leave! You will see the signs along the path, and I believe they are now on Facebook listed as Abriachan Eco-Campsite & Cafe.

Staying at the nearby Dornoch Caravan and Camping site we walked into Dornoch for a meal. We chose The Coach House because it is dog friendly. We received a warm welcome by staff and locals alike along with their dogs. Our haddock and chips arrived promptly and were delicious. However, our Westie started making a fuss. One of the locals and then a member of staff offered to “dog sit” so we could enjoy our meal. Exceptional! Thanks to all involved.

This Country Hotel lacks love and attention. Outside front and sides are very tall weeds, the flower boxes were full of wilted. Car park resembles a quary.. On entering the dining room was well presented albeit I felt it chilly . Only 3 diners and we had to wait to see if we would be accommodated. We were..we sat at our table and the really lovely young server took our order limited menu and 3 choices off that evening.. Food was just OK...not value for money @ £17.95 for haddock and chips. Overall not the greatest.. I'd love to see the outside tidied up and give the hotel some road side appeal

After arriving at skye and looking for places to eat this proved a little difficult as it was out of season and places had limited opening hours. We went for Gabbro bar after seeing it on google maps. The pictures of food looked passable. After getting there having to get our own wipes to clean the table after ordering things weren't looking good, then the toilets were very rundown and like a back street bar toilets. The food then came out in baskets, lined with greaseproof paper. (Something you would expect in a arcade) Fish and chips and the macaroni and chips. Even a plate would have been acceptable even though the fish was clearly out the freezer and very greasy. To top it off a random dog was wandering around trying to smell the food on the table and pushing its way under the table to check for any food.

A total shambles. Sunday carvery .couldn't eat any of the meat as mostly fat.Plates so small you can't get much else on the plate.waitress saw me trying to catch her attention and hid .eventually came over sheepish with bill and at that point looked at all the fatty meat on plate and her response was sorry about that .we then never say any staff .They had vanished into kitchen .On our way out there was a lady who had mobility issues annoyed there was no disabled access just a set of very steep stairs .£24 each for 2 courses and only starter choice was soup.Dont waste your time .
