One of my favourite places in Edinburgh. Superb drink, food and brilliant staff. Recommend the haggis and whisky flight selection. Perfect!

I found this place after searching for pubs near my hotel in Cameron Toll. Cracking place. Had a highland chicken for tea yesterday and a Scottish breakfast this morning. Both meals were lovely. Nice pint and me and my friend both enjoyed the whisky flight experience yesterday too (maybe not today though ha). Staff can’t do enough for you and it is the only bar in Edinburgh I’ve felt inclined to leave a review for. Thanks for your hospitality towards two Welsh fans.

We went to have breakfast and the truth is we were sad to leave, there was a very good football atmosphere, the people were friendly, the waiters were very attentive and helpful as well as explaining everything to us in detail. On the other hand, the food was very delicious and came in good quantity. We will return when we return to Edinburgh!

We love this pub, so it was an easy choice for our wedding reception (back in June 2024, a bit delayed in posting this)! The staff were absolutely incredible, both during the planning process and on the night itself, ensuring everything ran smoothly. The service was outstanding, the drinks were fantastic, and the food was delicious. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to celebrate. With an impressive whisky selection and top-notch food, this pub is truly an Edinburgh gem. Steve and everyone at The Abbey are amazing!!

Very friendly restaurant, a wonderful atmosphere and very authentic decor. The meal was very good, I had a delicious chicken burger. I also ordered Nachos, and I can say that they were the best I have tasted in my life. In addition, the waiters are very patient with us who didn't quite understand what he was saying. A little "saddened" at the end, while we were looking for the place to pay, it seemed that the boss thought we were going to leave without paying. Despite everything, I highly recommend this restaurant which is delicious, we chose it for our last day in Edinburgh and we have no regrets. Just remember to book because the restaurant is very popular ;)

The young staff was very kind and pleasant. And very patient with us who did not necessarily understand English well with a pronounced accent. The meal was delicious! We chose this pub for our last night in Edinburgh and we don't regret it. And don't do like us, remember to book ;) I'm just a little sad about what seemed to me to be a misunderstanding at the end. We were heading to the reception to pay, which is next to the exit. And it seemed that the boss thought we didn't want to pay. As we walked slowly looking for or heading. It hurt us a little. But we thank the excellent service and the kindness of the young blond waiter

We came here for lunch for the first time, and we had a great time both in terms of the service and the quality of the dishes. During the holiday we returned 2 more times, after dinner to taste the trio of whiskeys, and on the last evening for dinner. Pub frequented by locals, prices in line and generous portions. The steak & ale pie and the highland chicken are excellent. Vast choice of whiskeys to be enjoyed individually or in trios divided by region/style/aromas/age.

A superb bar where you immediately feel good. The staff is super friendly, the place is cozy and the music isn't too loud. I came there alone for a dinner so I didn't really enjoy the atmosphere but I'm sure that coming with friends must be a very good experience. I ordered the pie steak and ale, with a side of mash. I asked the waiter which accompaniment was homemade between the mash, fries and fried potatoes. He didn't really know how to answer me (probably because of my bad English) but told me that the best option was puree. And indeed, the fries seemed frozen from what I could see on a neighboring table. Regarding my mash, it wasn't really incredible. She was nothing more. The pie was more of a ramekin of filling with puff pastry placed on top. It's quite clever because it avoids cooking whole pies I suppose, but suddenly you have the impression of eating two separate elements rather than one dish. There is no real osmosis created between the two. Just boiled vegetables were of little benefit, but eating healthy and steamed from time to time doesn't hurt. Overall, the dish was acceptable but not amazing. However, the service was really good. The servers were adorable and welcoming. I had a great time at The Abbey and will probably return. The rating is more than adequate. I got it for £13.95 which is very acceptable. In summary? Friendly bar, top service, cuisine not exceptional but adequate. I think it's a great place to come with friends for a drink.

What a great place to have a drink or a meal. The atmosphere is amazing and filled with locals either on their way home from work or out with the family for some home (pub) cooking. They have a Malt Scotch of the month at a very reasonable price. I didn’t try it as I am not a Scotch person. I did ask the waitress to surprise me with a nice local beer and she brought an Ale that was locally made - I loved it. So many great local beers to choose from which makes it such an interesting pub. The food was excellent. I had the lasagna which was a special and my wife had fish and vegetables. Both were delicious. There are also 5 or 6 specials to chose from. We shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream. Amazing. Finally the service was attentive and very knowledgeable, from the beer to the food to offering us some tips on using the public transit. Tipping is not expected but we had to recognize her with a nice tip. If you are in the area you have to drop in.

The first time I visited Café St Honoré I thought I’d wandered into late 19th Century Paris. I half-expected to see Toulouse Lautrec in a corner sipping absinthe. I noticed that the clientele seemed mainly to be local residents - always a good sign - but that business people and tourists were also welcome. The menu was brief and to the point. Dishes were seasonal and locally produced items, including drinks, were highlighted. Over a period of years I’ve visited many times and enjoyed consistently good cooking. This time, I chose the set lunch menu. On the day I visited, the menu sounded rather plain (Soup, Cottage Pie, Mousse) but I saw the opportunity to discover how much flavour this team could extract from modest ingredients. As usual, a plate of beautiful sourdough bread arrived shortly before my bowl of cauliflower and Lanark Blue cheese soup. The soup, made from simple ingredients, was outstanding. The vegetable must have been roasted very slowly, carefully and patiently to extract flavour of such depth. The velvety texture was complemented by a garnish of sweet, crunchy toasted hazelnuts. Comforting and satisfying, my two-hundred-mile round-trip to Edinburgh seemed worth it for this bowl of soup alone. A dish as straightforward and traditional as Cottage Pie needs no fancy embellishment and it wasn't given any. The pie was served in an individual gratin dish with a portion of sautéed green-leaf vegetables alongside. Once again, the modest menu description and simplicity of presentation could lull the diner into anticipating plain food. Every item on the plate was seasoned perfectly and the flavour of the pie's meat base had a gratifying depth. I felt beaten into submission. My homemade Cottage Pie doesn't come close to this! To finish the meal, another simply presented dish arrived: crème fraîche mousse with poached pear and a shortbread biscuit. The silky mousse expertly balanced richness with freshness and the fragrant, sweet pears complemented it very well. I tasted the biscuit and mused that this little piece of confection well represented the blended French and Scottish influences of this restaurant. Had I eaten this dish in France, I might have expected a Sablé biscuit on the side. Here, in Scotland's capital city, I enjoyed this national speciality made from a very short list of good quality ingredients. Accessibility: The dining room is at ground floor level. The toilet/washroom is on a slightly lower level a few steps down from the main cafe area. Prices: The daily set menu is priced at £25 for two courses and £32 for three at lunchtime. (£28.50 / £36.50 for evening service.) The menu which I would call A La Carte offers starters at £14 - £15, main courses ranging from £27 to £35, and desserts at £10 - £15. Wines are priced starting at £7.45 a glass and from around £30 a bottle. In Summary: The "Frenchness" of this cafe is not just about its decor. Classical French Cooking techniques are used in its kitchen. The atmosphere in the dining room is relaxed and the service friendly. Café St Honoré has adopted the French Bistrot mindset of people being there to enjoy the food and wine and not to stand on ceremony.
