A very tasty local establishment. Whenever I visit other cities, I always look for where the locals eat, but here it was just impossible to get in; it was fully booked on a weekday evening. And my tactic paid off - these are the tastiest scallops I've ever had! The churros were also surprisingly crispy. All the seafood is fresh, and the prices are absolutely reasonable. In short, it was a wonderful experience, and I really want to come back ;)

Friendly staff good food and drink

Went for a drink but the food looked great. It was fully booked but found us a place to sit near the pizza oven.

I went here with my wife and my son tonight, and we wound an amazing atmosfere, and fantastic service, the food was delicious, specially Hannah, was very nice with us and specially with son, she spend lot of time to play with him, and she look after us all time 😊 thank you 😊 I honestly reccomend to come here

Had a fantastic meal here. Starters and roast dinners were all hugely enjoyed by everybody. Extensive choice of wines and good service from the staff. 👌🏼🍷

The food and service were excellent. The atmosphere was very rowdy with large parties in making LOTS of noise so it was hard to hear each other during dinner and with the layout/decor of the room there is little in the way of sound/noise dampening so it wasn't quite the nice couples evening out we had hoped.

Amazing fish and chips, the fish was fresh and the scallops amazing.

Although it was a Saturday and they were very busy we were seated really fast even without a reservation. The wine list is very extensive and for small or large budgets. The food orders arrived fast and the food was cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend for a great night out and would score more than 5 stars if possible. Thank you for a great experience.

Food was good but the waiting time just for the bill is over half an hour.

This is my local bar/bistro as I live very near the establishment. Always a good experience can’t fault it. I just wish there was more vegetarian options.

Had Sunday lunch here with a few friends. Overall a fantastic experience, good food and Sunday roast is a must. Very enjoyable and thank you.

The roast was awful, deep fried roast potatoes. Meat was good, vegetables lacking. One carrot, two parsnips, a table spoon portion of greens and a table spoon of coliflower cheese. Had to ask for more gravy as barely any on plates. Which you definitely need as potatoes were dry with no flavour to them at all. £20+ well not worth it at all!

It was a perfect place for a date night with my spouse. The outside didn't do justice to the ambience of the inside. Would total recommend this place.

Went here for a meal with friends. The service was great - friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was excellent and arrived fairly quickly, and the wine was amazing. Will 100% go here again!

Lovely restaurant with fresh food that is so tempting.

Enjoyed to buzzy atmosphere and a chat with those next to us. Beer and wine was good. We did not eat.

Decent enough , reasonably priced but lacking in variety on the menu . No chicken dish available in the evening, had the Abar burger had much better at the same price or cheaper in Yorkshire, wasn't much better than a Burger King on a posher bun .Asked what size the burger was 1/4lb , 1/2lb etc and was answered with "it's about this big" the size indicated with a hand gesture.

Went to this lovely wine bar on our last night in the UK with family. There's a wonderful ambiance there with romantic lighting. Our service was very friendly and efficient. The wine list is enormous and very good. All of our food came out speedily and was beautifully presented. The flavours of the dishes were unique and inspiring. Although my husband had to return his steak because it wasn't done to his liking, everything else was wonderful. We had a lovely evening.

Good seafood restaurant. I think it’s a great place for dinners however the menu is a bit dated and doesn’t accommodate for vegetarians that well, so it’s not very inclusive especially if you go as a group. I had the pizza which wasn’t good at all, flavourless and dry. However there is a nice selection of wine.

Courgette and feta cheese salad was 👌🏻. Very friendly staff and good customer service :) Sweet potato roast was nice but not mindblowing. Would go for the ham version

Always reliably good. Chose the special this time, turbot with smoked haddock arancini & mussel sauce. Absolutely delicious.

Came here on a visit to family in Portsmouth recently. Really disappointed at the menu as there’s much less on there than previously. There were no healthy eating options like salads. It seems the place has become very wine focussed and more like a wine bar and the service was slow. We ordered just one dessert - a scoop of ice cream- and waited ages and ages, the waiting staff kept asking if we wanted more drinks and we kept saying no we just want the one dessert we ordered please! One of the waitresses was quite rude when I asked her about drinks; I understand they come in bottles but barking at me repeatedly “large or small?” without giving me any idea what constitutes a large or a small then snapping at me when I asked for clarity didn’t make us feel very welcome. All in all a different vibe to visits from a few years ago and despite the nice fish and chips we feel it is no longer was the place we used to love coming to, so won’t be back.

Feels brisk, bight and breezy. A wood-fired pizza oven for simple, authentic pizza, but more interesting for its varied à la carte menu. Our choice: Fish of the Day (Sea Bream) and Pumpkin & Maple soup. Excellently prepared, with unexpected attention to detail - wonderful, crisp pan fried Sea Bream, with the contrasting texture of both crisply-fried and pickled fennel to garnish. If the only fault you can find is that the carrots and celery in the mirepoix could have been cut a fraction smaller, then it must be getting close to Michelin perfect! The desserts - Rum Baba and Raspberry Parfait - beautifully presented and quite simply delicious!

Just nipped in whilst waiting for the IOW ferry. Had the best pizza I've had in a long time. Shame we're the other side of the water as it would definitely be a regular haunt. If we're early for the ferry again we'll be back.

So far, their fish & chips should be the top one or two I had tried in the UK. But I only travelled to some cities and never searched for the best except that I visited in London. Certainly, their price is in proportion to the price. I think the difference is not double or could be 60 or 70%. Their staff is nice so why did I give three stars? First, I was sitting outside, so they did not have much chance to serve us. By the way, i think they should make the table stand steady on the ground that is not flat. Second, one of the reasons I visited is that they painted on the wall that they have a wonderful garden. I believe it is not the open dining area in the front door. When I asked their staff, smiley, showed us to that open area. Isn't it because I did not make it clear? Language problems? The outside area is noting attractive, so there's no much atmosphere I could have experienced. I may visit this restaurant again, but it should not be the top of my list. P.S. a small fish shop is on the other side, thus it gave me an immigration to link with fish & chips.

Very good service, the fish fillet is crispy, the seasoning is complex and conflicting, but magically delicious (it seems to have anise flavor?), and the passion fruit cocktail is also good

Never thought I'll enjoy this British classic sooo much 💕 ★Beef carpaccio, with seasoning related to the seafood dish, is very interesting and good quality👏👏 ( better than many beef dishes I've tried in France) ★scallop tartare, fusion with Asian elements, I was not expecting such successful results 👍(So many times Westerners created strange fusion, looks and sounds cool but not tasty at all, they just misuse those ingredients...🫠) We also love the cake: brownies with cherry sorbet. More than 7 elements involved in creating this dessert. Appreciate they put effort on it, all the details spot on. The cherry sorbet was really outstanding😋

Excellent food and service. A Monday lunch and the restaurant was buzzing. Glad we pre booked.

Service was ok but the menu options have lessened over the last few years. The vibe and atmosphere has changed too. It wasn't particularly clean in the toilets either and the tables were sticky. The plant based options are minimal.

Highly recommended, we visited for our works 5th birthday, there were 6 in our group, the staff were lovely, attentive, cheerful and professional, the food was delicious, perfectly cooked and presented, we had a wonderful meal and a great evening.

I ate here 3 times before putting the review. Everyone elis always friendly, but the food is the best I have tried in Portsmouth after many visits. The catch of the day was amazing, the margarita pizza is really nice, the sea food pizza was unique but not the best for me, still better (and again, unique) compared to many meals I had in Portsmouth. Finally, the burger was also nice. The best for me though was the catch of the day and it is really a shame it is not in the base menue. Yes it is among the high end restaurants in Portsmouth when it comes to the price but not the most expensive and it is worth it.

Great atmosphere. Not always easy to get booked. Food was great. Limited choice for vegans but the vegan pizza I had was great. Top quality wines. Not fully accessible if you can't manage steps.

I don't get to go often but this is a wonderful bar/bistro by the fishing Camber fishing harbour of Old Portsmouth. A great menu of tempting dishes. I had a melt in the mouth ham hock followed by vanilla ice cream doused in Pedro Ximineth sherry and an espresso martini. We had started with a cocktail of the day and a lovely Bardolino rose wine with the food. The wine list is exceptionally curated by the owner who, not surprisingly runs a wine business from the same location.

Had a table booked for 6:45pm Friday 14th July 23, loved the spacious table not crammed in. From start to finish the staff absolutely first class ( and I can be fussy ) All food starters sides mains absolutely top food a credit to the chefs, so much so we had first class experience that I have not had in a long time so a well earned £20 tip we added to the bill. I was shocked how improved this establishment has become and well done your team are all smiling and clearly love their job ! Tj Southsea

I am sorry to say that i did not enjoy the monkfish dish. When described, I thought it was a piece of monkfish, not monkfish mixed with potato and made into 4 balls, plus the fries and sauce were so incredibly salty that I could not eat them. The server was very nice and took £5 off the meal.

Absolutely love the food especially the catch of day on my last visit of the Venue, very friendly and personable service, love the garden , very secluded and away from the wind ! Dog friendly and an independent pub most importantly!!

this was our second visit to the bar and i have to say it was just as good as the first time the food was delicious and the service was of a very high standard

Monday evening dirty sticky table. Food very average.

I've been here twice within the past two months with different friend, and spent too much money.... But it was WORTH IT! The first time I came here, we went to the wine tasting experience. It was light hearted, enjoyable, educational, and beautifully finished off with some tasty food. The second time we went purely for food, but somehow bought a couple of bottles of a beautiful champagne from Sussex. Each time we were looked after by friendly attentive team members, and I have no doubt I shall return in the near future.

Lovely Father's day meal. Despite being busy staff, food and service was excellent.

Have walked past this place dozens of times but for some reason had never been in. There were four of us looking for lunch. We hadn't booked but they fitted us in. Lovely place, great food and friendly staff. We had pizzas and fish and chips which were excellent. Would go again.

Could find a clean glass in the place for a diet coke. Crusty left over food rim after a going through a dozen glasses

Been eating and drinking here for years and tonight’s experience was no different, great location, great service and great food, the new pizza oven is a brilliant new introduction, but more veggie options please. The hidden gem is Camber Wines upstairs where they have an amazing choice of wines. Enjoyed my food and evening so much I forgot to take photos.

All the food was plentiful, delicious, and great value for money! The atmosphere was nice and all the staff were friendly, so it was a fun family meal! A place I will definitely visit again next time~👍

We were so impressed with our experience on Friday evening, we went back again on Saturday. Food and service was excellent. Unfortunately there were one or two individuals who had no respect for other customers and were very loud, hence only 4 stars for atmosphere.

Characteristic restaurant, very nice, welcoming staff but above all excellent quality food! Particular mention goes to the children's menu which, for just over 7 pounds, offers a juice, a course with various choices (my children had an amazing fish & chips and a pasta with tomato sauce) and a truly delicious dessert. I had a dish of the day, sliced ​​pork with a side of chickpeas, cheese and vegetables, my husband had mussels followed by a fish with a side dish. All of excellent quality. Highly recommended.

What fun. A recommended restaurant which I had initially booked but the. Cancelled as I was unsure I would make my booking. Having managed to arrive in time I tried for a table which was available. I had pizza and good bottle of Chablis! Both very tasty, very friendly staff and really pleasant ambience and setting. Highly recommended!
