A taste of persia in Newcastle upon Tyne

Booked for a weekday date after wanting to come here for several years. We ordered the sharing mezze platter, then shared the 3 skewer main with chips. The food was delicious, in particular the stuffed vine leaves from the platter. The staff were kind and caring, making our meal a great experience. We would definitely come again, and recommend to others. Thank-you for a lovely meal!

We had hummus and grilled halloumi followed by Berg (tender slices of grilled filet lamb) superb crispy chips, great tomato, cucumber and mint salad. All fresh and pretty on the plates. Plenty of choices on the menu. Baclava looked good too but we didn’t have room to eat more. Great value cocktails - two for £12. Staff delightful. Really enjoyed our meal.

Fantastic, authentic food. The meat was up there with some of the best I have had in Newcastle, and almost if good as Berenjak in London. Good service, good drinks, all ground great spot.

Wandering down streets of Jesmond when we came across this eateries. My 2 sisters and I were having a half way meet up to celebrate 3 special birthday that were not celebrated over lockdown. We decided to give Taste of Persian a try. It was early evening we were greeted by a lovely lady who was bubbly and welcoming. We didn't have a table reserved but was given one quickly. We had 3 cocktails all which were tasty & presented beautifully. We went for a mezeh platter starter and breads all of which were very tasty. For main course 2 of us had the Darbarri kebab and 1 had the Shishlick with 3 side dishes all of which were beautifully presented. We left there stuffed but happy. We'll done to the staff

Osbourne Road is a lively place with many bars and restaurants but Taste of Persia is a standout for us. We've been a couple of times whilst up visiting our daughter and both occasions were great. Good quality, tasty, well-priced food served by polite and attentive staff. They even had a 2-for-£12 cocktail deal! Highly recommended.

If we could rate it higher we would. The food was out of this world. Our starter (pictured) was one the best we've had for some time.The staff were ever so friendly. You get a warm welcome as soon as you walk in. We couldn't recommend the place highly enough.

Went for dinner this evening, absolutely blown away by the standards of everything. First class staff, food, atmosphere and unbelievably good value for money! An absolute gem, will definitely be going back very soon! Perfect place for meeting friends and would make a lovely venue for date night too. I would highly recommend this fabulous restaurant.

I was staying in a hotel mins away having had surgery on my mouth thought it looked a nice place it’s absolutely amazing had hummus to start thought it would be cool and soothing it was all this and more the best hummus I’ve ever tasted

I have been to many Persian Restaurants and I have to say this is one of the best I have visited. The food is exceptional and service really attentive. Starters we had a mix of homemade yogurts with garlic and herbs, Haloumi and breads for dipping for starters absolutely beautiful ! Then the mains. Koobideh mince lamb kebab with bread. Gormeh Sabzi and Chicken with saffron. Served with perfect basmati Rice cooked to perfection. The Desert, ice cream home made , faloodeh saffron ice cream was beyond anything I have ever tasted... What an absolute gem of a restaurant. Highly recommend this place...

We thoroughly enjoyed a very nice meal there on a Saturday evening. Very good and friendly service with very well cooked,tasty, quality food. We ordered too much food and had to take some away. We both ordered mains with 2 skewers of chicken and different types of lamb. 2 cocktails, 2 starters,2 mains, and a bottle of red wine for £29 each. A very nice restaurant, we will be going again soon. I can't wait to try the stews.

My first time with Persian food... Had the Chicken Olovieh and the very fragrant Barbari bread that was on the house. For mains & sides, I had the tender grilled Joojeh (chicken), Feta Salad and Zereshk Polo (basmati rice with barberries, almond & pistachio) at the recommendation of the restaurant. Finally, took the promotion of two cocktail at the price £10. Overall, very impressed with the food. The ambience and service were great as well!

Great service. Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. Good portion sizes. The waitress was very helpful, and no sooner had you finished your course, the plates were taken away. Drinks came quickly after being ordered and all done with a big smile

It's ok if you know what all the items on the menu are, but for the other 99% of us in England we have no idea what we're asking for as there are no pics, poor meal descriptions and foreign words in English language. I ended up with a wrap (when I wanted a full meal) and had to BACS my payment as Cash Only... in a restaurant... IKR. Seemed busy with deliveries so must be doing OK, not impressed myself but staff/owners are nice.

We’d visited this place on a previous trip and are pleased to see it’s still offering fabulous food, at a reasonable price. We had the mezze platter to share, which was generously portioned, including the best hummous I’ve had and mirza ghasemi, a delicious aubergine...

A group of 12 of us ate here on Thursday night. The staff were lovely. The food was really tasty and amazing value for money. Everyone in the group said that they would definitely return.

Hadn’t had this type of food in many years and it didn’t disappoint - great food in welcoming environment. The place was busy on a Wednesday night so I’d book as I got last table and there were subsequent queues.

After the city centre branch closed down we decided to pop along to the Jesmond branch to try it out. We hadn't been for a few months and we had forgotten just how amazing the food and service is. Really exquisite Persian food cooked to perfection. The fesenjun is always a nice balance and you are given plenty of condiments get the balance of sweet and sour to the consumer's preference. Good selection of gin and nice traditional style coffee. This is probably our top choice of restaurants in Newcastle and is a genuinely lovely place all-round. Looking forward to our next visit!

Excellent food ! lovely staff and the manager, Omid, even adds more to all that goodness! There is no time my family come to visit us in Newcastle and don't ask to eat there! We eat there at least once a month!

We have been regular visitors to this restaurant in Jesmond since it opened.The cuisine is superb, with dishes of lamb, chicken fish and excellent vegetarian options. We have our favourites, with the barley and lentil soup very enjoyable at this time of the year. We love the Joojeh, which is a dish of pieces of marinaded chicken. It is delicious.The wine list is also very good.The service is excellent; friendly but with great attention to detail.The portions are very good and the price is also very acceptable, for such lovely food.

Latest of multiple visits on trips to Newcastle; this time with a group fo friends on a reunion trip. Spent 4 days in Newcastle; Taste of Persia was by far the best, by unanimous vote! Has vegetarian options, including a nice vegan dish!

Stumbled into a taste of Persia after walking out of the near by Holiday Inn and picking a direction to walk in. It was a Monday night and it was packed. We had to idea what to order and followed the recommendations of the very friendly staff. The food was fanatic, as was the wine, and the price very reasonable

Can't help but wonder how this restaurant can serve food of such great quality for such a small cost given their 2 course option ordered before 7pm. We can a variety of meat and vegetarian meals bewteen us and we were all seriously impressed with the taste, quantity and quality if the food served. Wish this restaurant was nearer home. It provides a good opportunity to eat healthily and to try new food without the fear of going over budget

Our first taste of Persian food and what a delight. Shame it’s not closer to where we live as we were on a weekend to Newcastle. Definitely worth a try.

Our second visit to this fantastic restaurant whilst visiting Jesmond. Booked online very easily. Staff are lovely, really friendly and welcoming. Food is absolutely gorgeous. Will be returning and can highly recommend.

Loved this restaurant and it was great value if you were able to eat early and take advantage of the 'early bird' two course menu. Lovely food and healthy too.

My partner and I like and, regularly eat out in order to try various cuisines. This was first Persian experience. It was very good in terms of offering a chance to savour new flavours across starters, mains and desserts. Service was patient and polite. We ate early (around 17.30) and restaurant was quiet. When we left at 19.00 it was full. A sign, I suspect of its good reputation.

Excellent food and very reasonably priced. Friendly helpful staff. Smart clean establishment. Was quiet on our visit, but booking might be advisable earlier in the weekend.

Esta fue la primera vez que mi amigo y yo probamos la cocina persa y fue una experiencia agradable. El personal era muy amable y servicial. La comida estaba absolutamente deliciosa. Pedí Bakhtiari, que era un pincho de cordero y pollo con tomate asado, hecho a la perfección. Mi amigo pidió Mahicheh (pierna de cordero en salsa de tomate con papa y pimiento rojo), también delicioso. Compartimos un plato de Adas Polo, arroz con lentejas, sultanas, cebolla frita y canela, un acompañamiento perfecto. Absolutamente delicioso. Definitivamente recomendaría probar A Taste of Persia en Jesmond, no te decepcionará.

Decidimos darle una oportunidad a este restaurante ya que necesitábamos comer. Nunca habíamos comido comida persa antes de que estuviéramos preocupados, pero no era necesario. La camarera nos explicó los platos y nos hizo sugerencias. Había un montón de platos de cordero en el menú. Nuestra opinión era que la mayoría de los platos eran guisos. La comida era de buena calidad y sabrosa. Definitivamente volveríamos a comer comida persa. El restaurante está decorado con buen gusto y los baños estaban limpios.

Hemos querido probar este restaurante por un tiempo y reservamos una mesa para 4 para una noche de sábado. Nuestra mesa estaba en la ventana, en un espacio cálido y confortable. Nuestro camarero era muy conocedor del menú y nos hizo algunas buenas sugerencias. Compartimos un entrante grande y pudimos probar una variedad de platos, muy sabrosos. Tuve el salmón como principal, todos teníamos algo diferente y todos disfrutamos nuestra comida inmensamente. Sin duda volveremos a comer aquí de nuevo. Todo fue genial, la comida, el servicio y la ginebra.

The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the service was fast and efficient. We couldn’t fault it!

We took my son and his girlfriend out for a late lunch on Saturday, so I looked for somewhere that was open all afternoon and you could also book. I searched Trip Adviser and suggested A taste of Persia to my son, who was very enthusiastic, it is one of his housemates favourite restaurants, apparently. With this very high recommendation I was expecting a good meal - and that is certainly what we got. Not knowing much about Persian food we asked the waiter for advice and had the meze starter to share (plus some halloumi requested by my son). This was delicious - the humous was the best I have ever tasted, and I can also thoroughly recommend the aubergine dip. We all chose something from the grill, my son and I sharing (I say that loosely as he ate most of it!) a Makhsoos this meant we had 3 different skewers and I would be hard pressed to say which was best - although the Joojeh, (the chicken skewer) was probably my favourite, although my son liked the Barg (lamb) best, by a narrow margin. He then managed a plate of Baklava with icecream which he thoroughly enjoyed. Now we have found this excellent restaurant we will certainly be returning. I just wonder how it took us so long.

Stopped in here early evening for dinner before a show at the northern stage. Have to say this was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Very healthy and very tasty food. Will definitely return when we are back in Newcastle.

its been a while and the first time in the Jesmond branch. this is far superior to the Newcastle branch. the food was absolutely first class . we had a mixture of starters all of which were beautiful. then we all had main course all cooked to perfection and well presented. the staff were very good as was the wine . i do not know why i have waited so long to come back. definitely be returning sooner next time. the restaurant is well fitted and comfortable

We (as in me and the missus) have been enjoying A Taste of Persia for the last year on frequent visits and the service, food and atmosphere is always the same... Excellent.

I have an apology to make to the proprietors of ATOP Newcastle and Jesmond.

Super friendly and lovely staff. The restaurant is very clean and tidy and the service is quick. However, the food is not quite up there with the great Persian restaurants. The rice was starchy and a bit raw and didnt enjoy some of the stews and the desserts as much as we hoped. Still will go again to try more of the food.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends. Since our knowledge of Persian food is limited we asked for advice on combinations and our server was very helpful. We all tried different starters and mains and everything we had was excellent. Lots of different flavours, all lovely. We will definitely visit again and would thoroughly recommend a visit. Good value for money too.

Great authentic Persian, Mediterranean food. I regularly visit Newcastle and going to taste of persia is always a must. Love the food, courteous staff and very good prices. Brilliant I hope they open a branch in Scotland.

Why this isnt more popular I do not know... but the food is excellent. I would also recommend on delivery as the food really is good. I have seen some other Persians above write less than positive reviews... It's important to know the Iranians are super critical. This place is excellent.

We "dropped in" to A Taste of Persia as we were looking for somewhere to eat. They made us feel welcome even though it was a very busy night for them. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and helpful. I was very impressed that our server (wish I could remember his name) felt that a dish had been over cooked and sent it back to the kitchen to be done correctly (when they knew we weren't regular customers and they were being kind to fit us in).

Hay una gran selección de menús con platos de pollo, cordero y pescado, pero también abundan para vegetarianos. Teníamos una preciosa botella de vino rosado también. No es caro y el servicio fue muy atento. Vale la pena una visita si estás en Jesmond y te apetece algo diferente.

He estado en otros restaurantes persas y me encanta su comida. Se trata de modernizar la comida típica persa. Me pareció un poco inusual y no mucho atípico. Pero probablemente depende del gusto. Tienes que tener mucho cuidado con la elección de staters y algo de comida. Como no hay explicación de cómo ordenar y qué va con qué. Si eres ingenuo en la comida persiiana, pregunta al camarero o llévate a un amigo persa por primera vez.

One of the best restaurant I know in the UK, tried almost the whole menu over 6 dinners loved EVERYTHING!

Been here many times. It's sip notch. Much better than the city centre branch. The kobedah is perfect and tastes out of this world. Good salads and cold starters as well. Topped off by warm and attentive service and nice surroundings. Love the food here and will be back. 5 stars, all the way.

Convenient to our Aparthotel on the corner of Osborne Road, this restaurant serves interesting and ‘different ‘ food with friendly service. Very good value too!

We were staying in a nearby hotel and the weather forecast was for thunderstorms all evening so we opted to dine close. We both felt that we'd been exceptionally lucky to chose here as the food and service were excellent. We dined early as we had things to attend to and benefited from an early bird menu which was excellent value.

I had been looking forward to this for a long time, as I am not a stranger to Persian food, and cook some myself.

I stopped for lunch here while on a work trip in Newcastle and what a gem I found. 5 star food, top class service, one of the best meals I have ever tasted. will definitely be back when in Newcastle again. Even the free Persian tea at the end was a nice touch.

Randomly decided to try this restaurant while on a work trip to Newcastle. It was a Wednesday night and a bit later on, but luckily not too busy. Food was amazing and it was nice to try something a little bit different from your average restaurant. Staff were friendly and attentive and the prices were good. Would love to visit again soon and try some of the other tasty dishes on the menu.

I was a little dubious of trying this place but I shouldn't of been worried. The restaurant is quite small in a converted front room of a house, I think it only had around 12 tables. we were greeted very nicely and shown to our table. I couldn't be sure but I think the whole family worked there and they certainly knew there food. Superb food , presented well and very tasty I wouldn't hesitate to go back and recommend to anyone.

I would love to know where the chap below eats out if he thinks this is expensive. This is the cheapest persian/iranian/turkish restaurant I have ever eaten at and the food is great. As soon as I knew we would be in Newcastle I booked a table, on hindsight we didn't need too early on a Sunday, but I wasn't prepared to take the risk of not getting in.

The restaurant is nice, staff are nice and polite. The food is ok, I would say very average for Persian / iranian food. As an iranian myself I would also say that the prices are quite high for the quality and portion size you get.

The food was lovely, truly of five star quality a true taste of Persia; but beware!

We were staying on Osborne Rd & liked the look of this restaurant on the corner. We arrived 6.30pm on Sunday, the restaurant looked very smart but was not busy at that time. Having seen Sabrina Ghayour on Saturday kitchen we knew Persian food is not hot & spicy; they don't use chillies. Most dishes are lamb, with some chicken. We ordered the saffron chicken and barbeque prawns (sizzler type dish) with side orders of mixed roasted vegetables and chips. The food came in a reasonable time, was freshly cooked and delicious. The chicken must be slow cooked, as it is so tender and just melts. Very happy with the experience and we are keen to find similar restaurants closer to home in Fife.

We met our friends at the restaurant of their choice’. Great choice, small but excellent service matched by excellent food. We enjoyed it so much we actually visited with our son , he agreed it was a good choice.

My mum and I visited here for a quiet meal and really enjoyed our evening. Food was delicious. Staff were great. Price was good. Lots of veggie starters and a good mix of meat, fish and veggie options on the main menu. Nice portion sizes so we were not too full up and could enjoy the variety of flavours! Cannot fault at all. 10/10. A nice break from the busy chaos down the road.

Wir waren sehr begeistert von dem Essen. Wir hatten Glück noch einen Tisch ergattert zu haben, da wir vorher nicht reserviert hatten. Es ist eher ein kleines Restaurant mit wenigen Plätzen deshalb empfhielt sich eine Reservierung. Wir hatten sehr leckere Vorspeisen wie Falafel, Hummus und Haloumi. Die Hauptspeisen waren auch sehr lecker und mehr als ausreichend. Es gibt Grillspieße Lamm oder Hähnchen und noch viele andere Gerichte. Dazu wird Reis gegessen. Die Preise sind moderat.

most rude staff, have never been treated as bad before. staff treated my family very badly, even we did like the food but could not enjoy it at all and did not stay till finish. The manager of restaurant need to consider at least a simple training for the kind of people they hire to host customers.

We went last week. Ordered chicken skewers and rice-all absolutely great. Service was also excellent. Place looks spotless. Staff very nice. I would have given 5 stars, but we have been going for years and you used to get 2 chicken skewers and now you only get one. Would have likes a bit more chicken. We will stil go back.

I haven’t posted a review on TA for a long time but this restaurant has stirred me from my slumber. What a find! We visit the north East every three months to see some of our family and I chose A Taste of Persia to bring the tribe for a birthday lunch. Well, it just has to be the perfect choice. Everyone, from the two year old to the seventy year old thoroughly enjoyed the food as well as the ambiance.

We had booked and arrived to be seated in a large round table in the window. Waiter arranged drinks and we chose and he suggested rice options for our mains. He actually remembered our order for 6 people correctly without writing anything down. The starters were fantastic and really good portions. The mains we all just shared and the rice options were very interesting and well worth trying. Good atmosphere and good prices.
