A Ryan & Son in Shropshire

The very very best pork pie I've ever eaten! Perfect crisp pastry crust, beautifully seasoned filling and delicious aspic. Would also have bought a fine looking leg of lamb (and will do so for our return home) but we were staying in a hotel.

Super family butcher. We always visit Ryans when we go to Shropshire on our self catering holidays every year. The queue is always out the door. I always buy their pies and freeze a couple to take home. They have expanded and now do cakes. I bought a couple of slices of lemon victoria sponge cake. They were huge and very moreish!

A friend of mine who has used this place for a number of years always asks me if I need anything when he goes ! , had 2 pieces of cheese and tomato quiche, It was absolutely awful, onion was undercooked and it had big chunks of onion which there was too much . My friend made a comment in a email !!! , they said call ahead next time . No refund 😏😏😏😏

I have for over 25 years made regular journeys to this place - the holy grail of pork pies- queued for hours at Xmas- why ? Because the pork pies were the best I’d ever tasted!! And would buy other items on the strength of that which were equally delicious!!. Sadly my recent visit shocked me as the quality of the pork pies has gone from superb…… to average……. So disappointing!!!- Paddy needs a word with whoever is making them as I’ve met a few people recently who say the same thing !! Such a shame to cut corners when u could just increase the price n keep the quality!!

Very friendly local butchers/pie shop. Fantastic choice of homemade pies, quiche and cake. Very tasty and reasonably priced.

Yes, they are the best. Yes, they have won the BBC Good Food award. Yes, during COVID they have started to deliver to those isolating. Yes, the meat and pies are wonderful and so are the staff. Yes, family ask us to buy stuff for them from Paddy and yes I was in a butchers in the west of Ireland last Christmas talking about the queue only for a lady to say that will be Paddy Ryan’s. But please keep this all quiet the queues are bad enough as it is. Enjoy the experience, the food and your holiday.
