The atmosphere of 4244 was relaxed and the young man front of house was very pleasent and informative. We did have to wait 10-15 minutes to be served wine and one of the waitresses didn't seem to know what she was serving us which did confuse things a little but apart from that the service was friendly and good. The Poached Scottish Langoustine Monkfish, curly kale & pastrami was absolutely amazing and most of the other food on the night was excellent. The goose was a little tough and the desserts wasn't to our liking but that was purely because we don't like Christmas pudding. We were offered an alternative and took it but it fell a bit short. I definitely want to try The Aumbry once it re-opens. I was a little surprised at the price of the wines which seemed very steep but I suppose this is due to the cost of the pop up. The clos des lys pinot noir was delicious but at £42 a bottle I would expect it to be. Overall a nice experience.

I was really delighted with the evening I spent celebrating my sons birthday @ 4244. We, a group of 4, were all really excited about the menu & 3 of us decided on the wine taster to go with the superb food. One of our party requested "gluten free" which was provided without any quibble. without a doubt the most delicious, exciting food I've ever eaten!! the service was relaxed and informative, unhurried and friendly, We appreciated the information on the wine, and actually learnt quite a lot. It was an absolute triumph, THANK YOU we will be looking forward to a return visit in the spring

This was an interesting meal.
It wasn't outstanding, but it was very good.
The two great courses were an amazing, tiny, black pudding scotch quail's egg. and a delicious celeriac and chestnut soup.
We also had hare, and venison, but neither of these were as exciting as they sound.
Sherry trifle to finish didn't have much of a sherry flavour, but we loved it anyway.
I think the vegies had a better meal than the meat eaters.
Wines were well chosen and both fantastic. Sorry, I don't remember the names, the white was Croatian and the Red Bulgarian. Even though they were expensive I'd buy them again.
The location at the back of Teacup is temporary, and it certainly feels more hipster tea shop than fine dining location. It left me wanting to try the real thing when they reopen.
Booking was a bit of a pain. I consider food to be a personal experience, especially when it's expensive, but you can't call the restaurant.

Some interesting dishes on the taster menu but several rather similar in texture and taste, particularly the hare and the venison, although these were both delicious. Dripping and breads very good, as was the celeriac and chestnut soup. Menu needs more contrast in flavour and texture, with fewer creamy dishes. The sherry trifle was very poor with no discernable sherry and bland shaving cream texture type topping. The wine list is also rather overpriced.

What a great place. Relaxed and unpretentious. Friendly, knowledgable and attentive staff. And then the food...phenomenal. Tasting menu is exactly that...tasty morcel after tasty morcel arrives at a perfect pace. Each one a delight. A heavy nod to the chefs Bury/Lancashire roots which was right up my street! Black peas so close to bonfire night - yes please! Wines are all natural and start around the £30 mark. However they offer beer and a few spirits. All in all, a great night out that I could t fault.

My husband and I enjoyed our meal, but found we weren't as full as we were after the Tuesday night tasting menu offer at aumbry. There weren't as many little extra touches - I was very cold through the meal, which didn't help the ambience. I was expecting a bit more for the full price menu at 4244 than the £30 offer at aumbry, but we left slightly unsatisfied. However, the service was absolutely, incredibly lovely. Sincere kindness & care. They brought 2 beautiful chocolates at the very end. Some of the best chocolate I've ever had. The vegetarian options are far more interesting than any other fine dining restaurant. I would go again, for a special occasion. We are big fans of aumbry, but the pop - up didn't go quite as well.

The service was lovely, exactly the right balance of professionalism and informality. All the courses explained and plenty of time between courses to chat and digest. About this rrestaurant. They are not pretending to be spectacular chefs. They are truly spectacular. Having eaten in several restaurants who offer a 6/7/9/12 course tasting menu I was not really looking forward to this. Usually each course has little but the collection of ingredients to distinguish one from the other. Not this restaurant. It was the first time ever that I felt every mouthful had been carefully crafted, considered and developed into a remarkable eating experience, rather than being just a showcase for the chef to exhibit their culinary highbrow skills.

Very poor value for money, the place is pretentious, the furniture is old and tatty (probably deliberate but did not work for me), the atmosphere is cold, we did not feel very comfortable. For the price they charge (minimum of £60 per person excluding drinks and service) I think all courses should be not only original but very tasty, made of top ingredients, show excellent presentation. The first two courses (veal and scallop) had really bad taste. The soup was ok but the fish course was bland and bordering on being undercooked, there was not enough sauce. The deserts were the best but were they used to compensate for the rest?! Also, the place has no parking and not in the best position. Not happy with service included on the bill.

Great to see young engaged staff looking like they are taking pride in good service.
The food was equal if not better than some of the Michelin starred places we have visited in the past.
We ordered the 9 course tasting menu.
Of note was the scallop cerviche with cerleriac, tarragon and coca butter & the hare consome which were both delicious.
Really interesting flavours.
Great wine matches too.
All reasonably priced for a fine dinning experience.
We will be back. Thank you.

We went for our anniversary and the experience was great, the drama of the food, the service was fantastic and the ambience was perfect.

It was just a shame that we didn't really enjoy all of the dishes. I completely get the fine dining experience is different but the flavours of the dishes just didn't cut it for us. Some things were excellent however, the beef dripping. the scotch eggs, the goat and the frozen hazelnut lollies! More of flavours like that on the menu and I'm sure we would go again. At £220 for a meal that we didn't fully enjoy, we probably won't go back.

Excellent as always, the ambience is wonderful, the crockery is quirky and cool but oldy worldly. The staff are amazing and the food outstanding.

This restaurant has a lovely, cosy, vintage feel with enormous black and white prints of the likes of Dennis Hopper gracing the walls. Food was carefully constructed, beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Service was at times quirky (and therefore a big thumbs-up for us) and at other times less-than-slick (if a Michelin star is their ultimate goal). Favourite bit was the trifle for dessert. Thanks for a lovely evening!

The food is exquisite, full of taste and flavours, and beautifully presented.
The accompanying wine tasting was well worth it. the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and professional and exceedingly accommodating as my wife was pregnant and couldn't have certain things.
Fantastic for a treat!

• cucumber infusion was tapwater, server refused to taste, but brought new supply that was delicious cucumbers
• nice amuses - especially the scotch egg
• the tea at the beginning is a mistake
• smocked mackerel nice
• scallop cebiche excellent
• turbot overcooked and disappointing
• suckling pig far too salty
• nice deserts
• too often a beetroot variant
• staff too inexperienced for the price range of the restaurant, bread too late, wine glasses not filled, shrugging of shoulders when we had valid comment (like no cucumber taste in 1st batch)

First time dining at Aumbury. Met with smiles and wonderful aromas as soon as I walked through the door. From start to finish it was the most enjoyable experience. Wonderful ambience, excellent service and sublime food. The only consideration for this restaurant is parking.... I wasnt aware of any restaurant parking and parking on the street outside is very tight! But if you are drinking and enjoying the wines, thats not a problem!

Stunning food. A combination of 'high end' cooking, thoughtful ideas and a touch of molecular gastronomy thrown in for good measure. If, like me, you are a bit of a 'foodie'; there are dishes that will excite, alongside dishes that will challenge.
The staff are charming and intelligent; knowing when it is appropriate to engage in 'banter' with the customer, and when to hold back.

Absolutely mind blowing 9 course taster menu at Aumbrey. An amazing three and a half hour experience with barely a missed note (which is quite a feat with 9 courses, plus the many canapés, petits fours and palette cleansers). As well as amazing food the waiting staff were brilliant, with a great balance of efficiency, friendliness and irreverent Northern humour.
Despite it being the best meal I have ever eaten I can't quite give it 5s across the board because it was also by far the most expensive meal I've ever eaten. At £130 pp (incl drinks and tip) it was worth every penny but hardly qualifies as a bargain.

One of the best meals had in a long time. Great food and staff. We went for lunch and I am 8 months pregnant. The staff couldn't have been more thoughtful in this respect checking what I could eat and offering substitutes
Wonderful place.

We've been looking forward to a trip to Aumbry for a long time and we were not disappointed! The surroundings, the staff, the food and the ambience were all impeccable - we were treated like the most special people in the room and we felt well looked after from the moment we stepped through the door. Incredible food, beautifully presented, well described by staff and wonderfully sourced - the wild rabbit pie, in particular, was one of the most wonderful things I've ever eaten. The little touches like hand-churned local butter and petit fours after our meal were the icing on the beautiful foodie cake that is Aumbry - an experience we shan't forget, and one we can't wait to replicate very soon indeed.

Mary-Ellen, one half of the chef proprietorship of Aumbry has spent time with Heston Blumenthal & it shows!
A unique menu, I had the set lunch menu of 2 x courses that included the longhorn aged beef, my partner included the rabbit pie in his choice. Both were presented with precision & appetite appeal & accompanied by shredded kale. We were not disappointed - the beef was succulent, the rabbit meltingly soft. But the outstanding item for me was the dessert of grapefruit posset topped with celery granita; you have to try it to really understand how perfectly these flavours & textures work together.
At just over £20 for the lunchtime menu, it's a steal.

Had the tasting menu. Mentioned that I dont like mushrooms, since one of the courses was mushroom soup. This was easily changed to the absolutely awesome celeriac soup! The tasting menu is a great way to try a variety of different dishes. Each looks so beautiful and the taste is even better than the appearance. The service was excellent. The staff are very good. They are friendly yet professional. They are very knowledgable regarding both the food and the wine. Have been a few times now and cannot fault Aumbry.

Throughout the night, the word my partner and I used to describe the food was ‘interesting’. The surroundings were very pleasant (although overly warm in the dining area) and the service outstanding.
The food itself, however, was a bit on the salty side for my liking and the main beef dish, slightly tough. Overall though, food was interesting and worth a visit.

We loved the Tuesday night tasting Menu..5 courses plus several 'extra' amuse bouches.. all for £25. Amazing flavours and great home made breads with superb old fashioned beef dripping dip. Staff super attentive and friendly without any pretension.. Would also recommend trying the 5 wines with the tasting menu (£22).. all superb, different & interesting.
All this in what looks from the outside like someones little house.
A real gem of a restaurant..so glad we discovered it.

We went to the Aumbry for my husband's 40th, we had the 5 course tasting menu which on a Tuesday at £25pp was outstanding value. I'm currently 7 months pregnant and found the staff very accomodating with my dietry requirements. We've eaten in a lot of michelin star restaurants and quite a few of the 'good' restaurants in Manchester and would put the Aumbry on a par with the michelin ones that we have been to in London. This is by far the best restaurant in Manchester.

I booked this as a surprise for my fiancée, on a recommendation from a friend.

I was unsure initially as I had heard that the venue was a converted cottage, quite small + I knew it was just off a busy main road.

However, from the second we walked through the door the service was second to none with one waitress in particular (Kimberley) being absolutely brilliant. She was friendly, informative + knowledgable whilst also being very modest + enthusiastic. An absolute credit.

The lounge area was very homely + comfortable + the 5* treatment began right away with delicious canapés. The food just kept coming in many small but mouth-watering dishes, several of which were totally unexpected + not a single one disappointed.

Highly recommended!!

This was the third time we had been to Aumbry and it was even better than I remember.
It started with a warm welcome and perusal of the menu. The menu is short but there is plenty of quality there. Being firmly of the less is more school and not having too many dislikes it suits me perfectly.
My wife had the accompanying wine option and they were a interesting and varied collection of wines.

All in all it was a excellent food and excellent friendly service.

Absoutely fantastic family Sunday roast made by Nora's Kitchen at the Chorlton Tap. Everyone had something different from the menu and all agreed it was the best roast they'd ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection and was delicious, the Yorkshire puddings were out of this world!! Excellent service and amazing value too. Save yourself the hassle and cost of doing your own and come to the Chorlton Tap to enjoy a gorgeous Sunday roast cooked to order.
