3idiots in South Ayrshire

First time trying their food tonight, have to say it was amazing. Best takeaway we've had in ages. Could tell the food was freshly prepared. Excellent flavours and fresh ingredients.

Just delicious. Great service and ambience. Food is amazing. Ask for the tapas menu it's so tasty. Loved the spiced haddock and punjabi chilli chicken just the right amount of heat and excellent flavour, the lamb chops were excellent too. Cosy booths and attentive service. Asked for a mild chicken chasni for my son who is tricky to please with Indian food and he ate every bit.

Loved it. Very tasty food and really attentive staff. We had a very enjoyable dinner. Keep it up guys. Ps. Get the chicken pakora and lamb chops.

Good food not busy but does not normally open at lunchtime

Firstly, both dishes were served in soup bowls, not authentic Indian bowls, both the chicken dishes were very watery, looked more like soup with a few pieces of chicken added. The vegetable dish was quite nice with a nice flavour, and of course you can’t go wrong with rice

I have never had such a bad experience in my life with a restaurant! Walked into the place. It was clear they were extremely upset that we dare walk in and want their food! Very happy to take our hard earned money elsewhere! Would recommend stay away from this place! They are bothered and upset you darken their doorway!

We have a local ladies lunch/dinner club in Ayr with over 160 members. We have eaten at many of the local restaurants and have never had an issue. 3idiots was suggested to us by one of our members. Tonight, we were a pretty small group with only 5 of our members in attendance. I’ll start with the service. The man who was acting as front of the house was absolutely miserable. Not a smile. Not a kind word. He took our drink order by simply stating “DRINKS?!” loudly. I can’t recall the last time we’ve had such unfriendly service. But… we always have a good laugh when we’re together, so we disregarded his lack of customer service. He had placed regular, more expensive menus on the table. One of our party asked if there was a tapas menu. (The front of their restaurant literally says they are an Indian Tapas restaurant.) He sighed and was obviously annoyed but provided us with tapas menus. Everyone in our small party ordered from the TAPAs menu. This is a tiny, tiny restaurant with tacky pictures on the wall and gold paint everywhere. There is no view. No ambience. It feels like you’re eating in a cheap takeaway. The restaurant was fairly empty and we were sat right under the AC. It was absolutely freezing. I know the weather outside is reaching record highs, but it felt like Lapland in there. Brrr. Even though everyone told him it was too cold, nothing was done about it. The cold air blowing down directly on us would later make our food cold quickly as well. The food was standard Indian food. Tasty, but nothing phenomenal. Having it in a tapas style was unique and everyone shared bits and bobs. We had to signal him for drink refills. After we finished our meal, he quickly removed all of the plates. We had to ask for the check 20 minutes later. We tell everyone in our lunch/dinner group that they are welcome to dine with us no matter their budget. There is no judgment if you can only afford to order a side of chips. It’s about coming out and enjoying yourself. Having a laugh. Connecting with other women in your community. Women from all age ranges and financial situations have joined our group. We’ve been meeting for nearly a year and as previously mentioned, have dined at many local establishments. We have never had an issue with a restaurant allowing members to only pay for what THEY ordered UNTIL TONIGHT. This man REFUSED to let each of us pay separately for what we ordered. I can understand if the restaurant was busy and bustling, but there were only 2 other tables and both had been served their food. He demanded that one person pay the entire bill. When we refused, he became angry and insisted they do NOT divide bills. There were no signs posted and he did not tell us when we ordered that one person would be required to pay the full bill. We continued to refuse and say there was not ONE person who was going to pay the bill. We told him we would pay for what we ordered. He refused. In the end, he divided it into 5 equal amounts and DEMANDED we had to each pay that amount. This was especially frustrating and intimidating for one member of our party who had specifically ordered less food because of her budget. Her food ended up totalling under £14 but she had to pay more than £22 because of the nasty man at this restaurant. She was embarrassed and I was mortified that he was being so aggressive with us. I understand if the man had made our group aware of this policy beforehand, but he did not. He would still be receiving the full amount if we divided it according to what we ate. With other, more polite options to choose from, our group won’t be back to 3idiots. I’ve shared our experience within our group. If you want good Indian food with STELLAR service, try Ayr India on the beach. Great atmosphere. Amazing food. A much larger menu. Excellent customer service and Stunning views. Give these 3idiots a pass.

I live in the Middle East and eat a lot of Indian cuisine and 3idiots is one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at! Their garlic Naan is the best Naan I’ve ever had!

Best curry in Ayr by a long shot.

A great wee, award-winning Indian Tapas Restaurant by the Auld Brig in Ayr. Our first visit to this eatery and we weren't disappointed. The service was excellent and our waitress was very helpful explaining the various dishes. She recommended 2/3 dishes each, we ordered 7 between the three of us and nobody went home hungry. If tapas is not your style, it's possible to order main course versions of most dishes. If you find yourself in Ayr you would be an idiot to miss it but it would be advisable to book, although I believe that some tables are reserved for walk-ins.

Picked here as there was 3 of us the aroma of spices when you walk in is amazing we never had a reservation but received a warm welcome it's a tapas style place but we chose main meals we started with poppadoms with spicey onion and mango sauce to start with and then two chicken korma and pilau rice and a chicken masala and mushroom rice and haggis pakora and dipping sauce absolutely amazing place was spotless and could not fault any of the staff small and friendly and if you are in ayr well worth a visit

Having North Indian roots, I was really pleased with the food and service in this restaurant. If this was my local, I would be here every week. Sukhwant was our witty waiter, he was good at advising us on our choices and made us laugh a few times. I like the fact that the dishes are small, tapas style, because it means you can have a variety. We did order starters to arrive first and mains for afterwards, and even though it is a tapas style restaurant, they were very accommodating. For those who are unaware, 3 Idiots is a Bollywood movie which as the name suggests, is a comedy. When I next visit Ayr for work, I will definitely return!

Heard nothing but good things about this place but my experience with the food was mixed: - Perfect, fresh naan bread and chapati so 5/5 there! - the rest of the food I found a little bland though? Daal was OK but a bit thick - Saag Paneer was bland and despite the chef claiming they make their own paneer it still didn't taste like my own home made paneer. Only ever found one Indian in the whole country that serves fresh, home made paneer - they all seem to buy it in ready made which just isn't the same. The saag was bland and spiceless and there wasn't a lot of it (even though it was a tapas portion) - Korma was also bland, although the vegetables were cooked well and there was aloo/gobi/brinjal in it as opposed to the often lazy selection of sliced mushrooms and green peppers. No coconut flavour though - and it tasted/smelled a little unfresh so I left most of it Maybe we just went on the wrong day (Jan 4th) just after the mad New year rush and some of the food presented was prepared a day or two previously or their star chef was on his day off - but otherwise I would go back and give the place another go. The staff were very friendly and it was nice talking to them and sharing cooking tips and one of them was from a place in India that (acording to him) I would have passed in a bus 20 years ago coming down from the mountains (McLedoganj)

My second visit with my family within a month my dad has been several times too with friends and enjoyed it every time. Lovely food and service. I like the chicken makhani and the seekh kebab.

This is a difficult review to write because certain dishes were outstanding, while others were bland and tasteless. The attitude of the waiter was disgraceful – he was arrogant, and despite, on the face of it, appearing helpful and concerned with how our meal was going, at certain points the mask slipped and created an uncomfortable environment at our table. I ordered the King Prawn Tandoori (not listed on the menu but listed online, oddly) as a main, and asked for the Karahi sauce (as I usually do) to be extra spicy. The waiter seemed completely taken aback by this and responded in an extremely curt and rude manner: 'we don't usually do that as we like our customers to be able to taste the flavours'. I was flabbergasted by this, but as he could see I was unimpressed with his demeanour, he offered 'as a one-off' to make the curry to my desired strength. I don't know if he got the memo, but restaurants are supposed to – as long as it is feasible – cater to the customer's tastes and needs. Every Indian restaurant I've been to, be it low-end or high-end, has been happy to make my curry extra spicy. I asked for it to be madras strength, but alas if wasn't to be because the curry sauce wasn't only not spicy, it was bland. The rest of my family felt similarly about the curry sauces – they all looked the same and were all quite bland. So much for wanting to let customers 'taste the flavours'! Stand-out dishes: the spiced haddock was incredible, the fish pakora was a delicacy (best we've ever had), the king prawns were succulent and well-spiced. Let downs: the vegetable pakora was utterly tasteless, every single curry sauce was extremely bland, quite watery, and the portion of curry sauce which came with the (al a carte) king prawn tandoori was miserable, and as mentioned earlier, was not made to my desired strength. On balance, some of the dishes were fantastic but taking it all together, it just wasn't good enough to justify another visit.

Terrible price but good quality, don't recommend.

Despite not having our online booking, Paveen was happy to accommodate us. The food was excellent and would have ordered dessert if service hadn't been so slow due to new staff. Good to have a decent authentic Indian restaurant in Souty Ayrshire at long last. Will definitely be back.

After my family raves about how amazing 3idiots was I was really looking forward to trying their food. I ordered a mushroom poori I wasn’t wanting a huge meal so normally this is enough. However I was disappointed when it arrived and found none of the sauce that I’ve seen on other mushroom pooris I’ve had before from other establishments. Sadly I was extremely disappointed, as it was dry, no taste and looked unappetising. My family however enjoyed their meals and would still go back but due to my disappointment in my meal I’m not sure I’d rush back.

We were a party of 16 coming together for a birthday. There were lots of dietary requirements and special requests in the middle of a very busy Friday evening service. The manager and in particular the waitresses (who were new) could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and we always had everything we needed. The food was excellent and so was the service. Thank you so much for helping make our evening really special.

The tapas menu is brilliant meaning you can try many different dishes across the board, staff are always welcoming and friendly

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough! Fantastic food, most delicious curry I've possibly ever had and the tapas idea is brilliant. We had 8 dishes between 4 of us and all of them were stunningly good. If it wasn't 4 hours away I'd be going weekly! Highly recommended 👌👌👌

The 3 Idiots Ayr is amazing!! - Food is just perfection!! - staff are the friendliest and so much fun - cosy venue with a fab atmosphere - drinks were great I really enjoyed the small tapas style dishes as you got try a lot of different things and I have to say it was one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. Everything is cooked fresh to order and the Peshwari nan bread is THE BEST I HAVE EVER TASTED!! We will 100% be returning - it’s is now our new fav restaurant in Ayrshire and I recommend you go as it genuinely is excellent ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In my never ending quest for good curry This is a Real find hidden away just off the old Ayr brig on the right hand side of George St . This was my second attempt. Last time didn't do my homework . Thought i would have lunch there. They dont do lunch. I was standing on the doorstep just after 5pm Saturday opening time.This is a traditional Indian restaurant retro decor, not a huge place. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Dishes can be served Tapas style or just normally depending on need or size of your party. I was dining alone. Food quality is excellent. This is a superior dining experience. I had a Cauliflower,Potato and green bean veg curry along with a South Indian Lamb curry i opted for Cheese Paratha for a change from Nan. No rice, didnt need it. The lamb was so tender, truly melt in the mouth which lamb should always be. Finished off wit a Mango Kulfi stick which was also excellent. A new branch is due to open in Troon.Portland St.in a couple of months. That will be another occasion to savour. A hidden gem of a place with wonderful food and service.😊

My friend and I went Friday and what a fantastic Meal, our server Ali was so delightful, big smiler. In Prestwick we have a good Indian restaurant but from now on it's the 3 Idiots, great team, amazing tasty food 10 out of 10.

Liked it here. Different menu style - Tapas approach works well for Indian food and more should do it. Chilled staff and great food.

The food was delicious but the service wasn't great. Staff were unfriendly and everything felt rushed. My friend specifically asked if her curry could be made without onions as she is intolerant, was told yes. Half way through her curry she realised there were lots of onions. We didn't receive an apology and we were still charged for her curry even though she couldn't eat it and we had to dispute this. She had a very upset stomach by the end of the evening. Will not be back.

Thought we were going g to a traditional Indian restaurant. The concept of an Indian tapas was alien to us but once explained we had a wonderful meal.

Just been in the 3 Idiots for the 2nd time this week. We are travelling through Scotland. The food is fantastic. I had lamb chops tapas and king prawn tapas absolutely best indian ever. The other 3 in our party agree. Down side I was shocked to see I had been charged £7.70 for a glass of wine . That apart next time I go I will have water. Well done you idiots . 👍👍

After reading about the award winning restaurant, just had to go. Service was excellent and the food was too. Small tapas style, but that's great to mix and match and try other things. Chicken Tikka was awesome.

Food just amazing. Service brilliant. Went with my partner and 3 kids. Took some of the food away and had lunch the next day too. Price reasonable. Would go again and again. Back down in July and will be making a point to go here for more superb Indian food

Had a lovely meal last night in 3 Idiots. Staff were fab and food was excellent. Tapas idea is great allowed you to try different dishes. The peshwari Nan was very tasty and the chicken chasni yum !! Highly recommended and good value for money. If back in Ayr will be back ☺️
