Auld Acquaintance Cafe (International Fusion Food) in South Ayrshire

Had freshly made Carrot & Corriander soup which was so tasty. Then vegetable curry with poppadoms flat bread and rice. Also had fish and chips which was super. It was top class... served by such a charming, friendly couple. Highly recommended... Thank you!

My wife and i visited Girvan and gave the Auld Aquaintance Cafe a try - We were not disappointed. The Cafe is managed by the husband and wife team Prenil and Delphina - Prenil is the chef and Delphina manages the cafe. They both made us feel extremely welcome and Prenil allowed us complete freedom to dictate our own taste choices and explored with us our food likes. Prenil can make virtually any dish to order ( rightly called food fusion) and loves a challenge but on this occasion we opted for Indian food and a house special Chicken Kashmiri and a Prenil customised Korma. We also ordered chicken Pakora and Onion Bhajis as starters. Each dish came piping hot directly from the kitchen as soon as it was ready to eat. Each and every dish was a delight , the Pakora was extremely succulent and the dips were delicious as were the Bhajis. The main courses each included the curry dish, rice, a hand made fresh flat bread and a Poppodom - the food was specialised and subtly different in taste from standard curries , you could literally taste a multitude of different flavours. If you are in Girvan then don't be put off by the cafe decor , its all about the food and it is well worth the visit we don't think you will be disappointed and very reasonable prices for speciality food. If you have dietary requirements then they can usually accommodate most - my wife is gluten intolerant and had no issues - However if possible phone ahead and they will proactively respond to your specific needs.

Charming maître d'/chef/everything else and delicious French toast. Topped up our coffee - how often does that happen?! Heartily recommend and would happily come again.

Excellent home made lamb curry with pompadom, dips, and flat bread. The duck stir fry noodles was also excellent. Owners were very friendly and keen for us to enjoy our meal. The desserts were homemade and good.

Stopped by here on our way home from a staycation. We decided to get a takeaway. The food did not disappoint, the best coronation chicken I have ever tasted and my other half absolutely loved his soup of the day. Will definitely be back next time we are in Girvan!

Delicious home cooked food, both the curries and western food and a warm welcome from the hosts, Prenil and Delphina. So good we went twice in one day.

I found the bill very, very expensive but they asked me for a review so here it is.

If your in girvan, go and try these guys they do a range if different foods from around the world, and always have a special on. They work so hard just the two of them from early until really late,they welcome you in and are very attentive, 20 mins before closing time the chef welcomed 2 guys in with open arms, with no thought to he would defo be shutting late which I thought was amazing. He comes out personally to make sure your meal is enjoyable and what you expect. We left full it's not expensive either your spend more at the chippy. A wide selection of home baked cakes and cookies unfortunately I was too podged for a nything else had to undo my Jean's to walk home. Support these little businesses if your about rather than the big ones as the service attention to detail and good food will outweigh those everytime.

Fantastic food and service! Went with my husband and toddler who has multiple allergies. Chef asked us what my toddler could eat, and made a dish specifically to her needs. We’ve eaten out as a family a fair bit and we’ve not had that kind of accommodation for our toddler anywhere, even with for-warning. We had the chef’s special, which was chicken masala, with rice, poppadom and flatbread. The food was delicious, and the flat bread was amazing! Thank you for a great family meal!!

Literally the best vegetable curry I've ever had, and coming from Birmingham, I've had a few. Everything was home cooked and superb quality. The service was top notch and the hosts are genuinely friendly and passionate about providing a good service. Please, please visit. You won't be disappointed.

My daughter had numerous serious food allergies and chef was very accommodating cooking her her own special meal and the drop of a hat, which she loved. The specials my wife and I had were full of flavour and amazing, they couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a great family meal. Couldn’t rate this fantastic place highly enough

We read about this on trip advisor and thought it looked good. We both got the full Scottish breakfast and it was lovely. After this we both wanted to try a little something else so I got the rice pudding which was great, really tasty. My wife got a Nutella pancake with lots of fresh fruit which she really enjoyed. We also got a mango Lassi to try and we were both glad that we did. It was really tasty and fresh. The owners were also very nice and attentive. We were going to return the following morning to try something else before leaving the area but were put off by one of the local regulars who didn’t really seem to appreciate that we wanted to enjoy a nice quiet breakfast together and kept interrupting us to ask if we liked what we were eating and even once approached our table, not wearing a mask, and asked us to leave a review. Which we were going to do anyway. This was the only downside to our visit but is not really any fault of the owners. I would definitely visit again for food but would rather it be with just my wife and no uninvited guests.

I booked here for myself and my fussy vegetarian daughter on the last night of our holidays. Prenil & Delphina went out of their way to accommodate my 12yr old daughter who is a fussy eater and vegetarian. Prenil asked her her dislikes and ensured not to include them in her curry. He made a mild curry as she doesn't like spicy. So glad we went here as my daughter will now try curries at home. The mango lasso she enjoyed too. Photos include my chicken curry too. We stumbled across this gem 💎 of a place in 2019 and made a point of returning to it this summer. You are made to feel so welcome by the chef and his wife who will cater to your needs. Went there today. Had the special of the day chicken Korma (spicy) . The rice, bread and accompanies the whole thing was fantastic. My family and I were camping overnight in Girvan prior to visiting Culzean Castle. We decided to try a restaurant as it was raining heavily and had high hopes for Auld Acquaintance based on pre-existing reviews. We were not disappointed. The owners gave us a very warm welcome and cooked delicious authentic homemade bajis, samosas and delicious Goan fish curry tailor made to our taste. The pooris were lovely and the dips made with homemade yoghurt. My young children wanted scampi so the owner didn't have any shop bought frozen scampi. He made homemade tempura battered prawns with mayonaise, chips and fresh salad. The girls loved it. His wife made delicious Mango Lassi. Best I have ever tasted. 10 out of 10 for this lovely couple. Delicious food, friendly service. I hope they make a go of things.

Went to Girvan today just to get out off house ...stumbled on this little gem in the main street ..had the burger .and misses had roll with egg and p.scone ..this was so good ..then by talking with the owners about life ..turns out all food is home made and will make us curry to takeaway. Had a lovely visited today at the Auld acquaintance it’s always lovely food and ran by a lovely couple who always go above and beyond for their customers super friendly and happy to help the Auld acquaintance burger just gets better and better fine quality fresh beef home cooked chips which are honestly really tasty if you pop in definitely ask for the mango smoothie it’s delicious my wife had a pasta fusion your always getting the finest foods when coming here definitely it’s just on the high street a nice comfy hole in the wall the chef definitely is proud of the dishes he makes I can say it’s some of the best food I’ve ever had and I’ve tried multiple places this by far beats the competition a wonderful couple that will always meet the customers needs happy 3 years anniversary in girvan

Cold and windy bank holiday in Girvan was warmed up wonderfully by this terrific curry and hand made poori. We also had mango lassi (made with home made yoghurt) and a hot rice pudding for dessert. Fabulously friendly welcome, very high quality food. And all GF, although I had to check as you really couldn't tell. Owner really goes out of his way to make guests feel welcome and to make adjustments to the standard menu to accommodate guests needs. 10/10

Best cafe in town friendliest welcoming owners. Can’t do enough for their customers, they go the extra mile to make sure their customers are happy and experience a fabulous meal and feel at home. They have been dearly missed while they were shut I for one feel at home and more than welcome now they are again open. Even during lockdown they checked how their customers were to make sure they were ok. They have now completed 3 years in business today. Well done auld acquaintance. The owners are a lovely couple who really care about the food they create. The food is excellent - for example, I had a vegetarian curry last time and it was probably the best curry I have ever tasted. They prepare everything themselves and cook to order. I would thoroughly recommend it to anone who likes good food.

What a gem! There are many places that say “homemade food” but this is definitely the most authentic and good tasting home made meal I have had in a restaurant. The owner has chosen this random little town to live his dream, which is to make people happy with his cooking skills. And he has absolutely achieved that. The ingredients are fresh, even the mayonnaise is home made and the taste is wonderful. I would even stretch it that far to say that you can taste the passion and the love the meals are prepared with. I came passing by on the way south from Glasgow and I will make the detour again. Visit this restaurant and it will make your day!

Delighted to find this great eatery in Girvan. The modest exterior belies excellent food, with a flexible and friendly chef. It was even dog friendly. Congratulations to the owners, it made for the perfect end to our week on the west.

I stopped in for lunch on the way to the Ferry, and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. When I asked for Vegan options, the chef came out and said he would make whatever I wanted! I asked for curry, and it was delicious. I would highly recommend this place

Visited last week.. Friendly couple who couldn't do enough for us. Viewed their wide ranging menu for a lunch meal. Plenty of choice. We were thinking of fish and chips when the owner/chef offerred to create a special meal just for us. He made a few suggestions and we both plumped for grilled bream in sauce, potato and fresh green beans(from the garden). The dish when it came was beautifully presented and deliciously tasty. It really was fine dining, worthy of any quality restaurant. Truly it was as promised, a special meal just for us.The main was folowed by home made sticky toffee pudding with home made ice cream. The chef/owner was obviously trained in quality dining establishments and passionate about his skills and desire to produce fine dining for his customers.We also sampled the home baked empire biscuits as takeaways after looking at all the home baked goodies on view. I would highly recommend this cafe/restaurant if you are visiting Girvan. Probably worth asking the chef if he could recommend some meal for you or if he indeed has any specials to offer.Food is home prepared and cooked on the premises.

Friendly welcome and high quality, well cooked food from a fabulous chef (and baker) who cares about his customers. Home prepared, home cooked and sometimes home grown, tasty food...also able to cater for GF, vegan and vegetarian as well as the stunning homemade beef burger my companion had. Every bite was terrific.the range of fresh cooked food was brilliant, nothing frozen or preheated just amazing fresh cooked dishes from curries to toasties, nicely dressed salad, hearty chips to flavoursome soups. The desserts are also stunning too: home made scones and sticky toffee pudding to brulee and huge cookies. Recommended highly and certainly planning on becoming a regular. My only concern is that I ate too much because it was too nice to choose!

Enjoyed a family meal tonight with 3 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs. This has to be the friendliest restaurant I have ever been to. The welcome was so warm and the owner even brought food and a drink out for the dogs. Curry was delicious and the range of food suits every taste, is freshly prepared and we were offered samples of different home made mayonnaise and other sauces. Not licensed but the owner invites diners to bring their own bottles with no charge. It would be really easy to walk past this little gem of a place but if you are in Girvan and looking for anything from breakfast, lunch or dinner I'd recommend you give this a try, you won't regret it. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners who go out of their way to make sure the food is to your taste and you enjoy your meal(even added a smiley face to the cappuccino) Extremely reasonable too and we will definitely return on our next visit to the area.

We have just had a delicious meal, and the couple who own the restaurant were so lovely and welcoming. There is a great and varied choice on the menu, and Prenil will also make up something different if that's what you want.We are going back tomorrow for lunch. Just wish we lived closer as I suspect this would be a regular haunt for us.We will definitely visit again when we are next in the area.

The personal service from the owner/chef could not be faulted and should not be missed, it is as though they are welcoming you to their home as well as their restaurant. The chef is keen to ensure that your meal is taliored to your taste/requirements. Do not overlook this gem.

Don’t miss out on a fantastic food experience by bypassing this unassuming little restaurant. We were looking for somewhere to eat last night. Other restaurants were closed and at 9pm our small group of 4 thought we were heading home hungry. Although they were about to close the Indian couple invited us in and insisted they open the kitchen and make us some food. While waiting the lady chatted to us about her family and experience of moving to Girvan. We were eventually provided with delicious food. 1fish and chips, 2 beef rangdang and a chicken biryani. My husband who loves his curry’s commented that it was the best he has had in many years, just a bit different to the norm. We all had a taste of each other’s food and agreed the food was hard to beat. The menu is a bit misleading and I would recommend having a chat with the owners about what you like and I believe they will go out of their way to ensure you have something to enjoy. The owner/chef is the most enthusiastic person we have ever met. We all highly recommend you don’t miss out on visiting this restaurant. I would say appearances can be deceptive. Give it a go.

I can't recommend Auld Acquaintance highly enough. The food was stellar, some of the best Goan food I've had in this country, and the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome and looked after us superbly. It felt as though we were at an old friend's house.
