300 Degrees Restaurant & Bar in Southend-on-Sea

We visited for my husband‘s birthday. We were a table of five and arrived at 7 pm. On arrival. We were the only diners in the restaurant. Three other tables were occupied by the time that we left 9 pm. This was a sat night. The menu has changed fewer choices or maybe fewer fine dining choices. The signature dish seemed to be the steak either steak on the stone or cooked so we opted for steak. The menu even contains a little joke. “Don’t ask the chef to cook well or medium well “ I opted for medium rare so when it arrived, I struggled to find the pink meat. I also ordered some garlic bread for our daughters, it arrived smothered in cheese but no mention that it would have cheese both daughters don’t eat cheese . The waiting staff require additional training. A female server. Didn’t even apologise when I complained about my steak instead told me it would be a further 15 minutes for a new piece , that wouldn’t work as everyone else had been served. They would’ve been nearly finished when mine arrived. Her solution was to scrap the order all together, but I came to a restaurant to eat. That wasn’t a good solution, the senior server, or maybe the manager later came over and offered to compensate for the steaks and provided a discount, which is really good of him, the chips could’ve been triple cooked for that crispy restaurant feel they suspiciously look like they may have come out of a packet also . After we complained about the steaks, we didn’t receive any additional service. We had to request a desert menu, being gluten-free. I asked what was gluten-free on the menu. I was told nothing it’s not completely unusual but usually you’re offered either ice cream or sorbet. We had the feeling that we were no longer wanted so forfeited the deserts for our table of five, asked for the bill and left, one of our diners was in a wheelchair, no point did anyone offer to open the door so we navigate of the double doors ourselves and left disappointed . Positively the cocktails and the beers were delicious. My recommendation would be hire some staff that smile or are attentive, become a bar and do what you are good at. This used to be one of my husband’s favourite restaurants in Southend. I’m not sure will visit again though. Bad times!

My last review of this place was glowing, last Spring I thought we’d found a new favourite spot in Southend. Having revisited several times since, it’s gradually deteriorated. Our most recent visit will, sadly, be our last. The food is mediocre, at best, but expensive. The service has gone down hill (our waitress wasn’t meant to be working and made sure the whole dining room was aware! Really unprofessional) and while in the past the standard was very high, unfortunately now we just don’t feel welcome with the staff totally uninterested, verging on rude. Last year in this restaurant I had one of the best meals I’ve ever had locally and recommended it to everyone. Such a shame that it’s all changed so drastically.

I chose this restaurant with my visiting friend, as she likes steak so we thought we'd give it a go. Firstly they were late opening which wasn't a major issue as the dark-haired waitress explained she was on her own. She was really friendly and kind so I thought ok and she was quick with our menus. This should have been the alarm bell though, as we were outside waiting before the chef arrived, as I saw him go in about 11.58 whilst we were outside. At the time I thought he was a waiter, if I'd known he was the chef before we went it I would have said to my friend to leave, as it doesn't feel like a good sign if the chef arrives two minutes before the reservation. The nice waitress did say things would take a bit longer due to staffing, but again not an issue as my friend and I were catching up, and I assumed the chef would be ok in getting things started up. Starters came after about 20 minutes and were delicious, so I did think everything was going to work out, but this is where things then went downhill. We both ordered fillet steaks and when they came out, they were not on the hot stones as the menu advertised, just plonked on a white plate with no attempt to add any garnish or any care for appearance. No ask if we had everything we needed like salt, pepper, ketchup etc. I asked for mine rare and my friend medium rare. My steak was medium to well done as had a tiny slither of pink, my friend said hers was OK. I sent mine straight back and a different waitress came over and rolled her eyes at me as she took the plate, no apology whatsoever. It was like how dare I order it rare and then not be happy that the chef overcooked it. The staff then proceeded to argue, the chef seemd really irritated as well and it's like he wasn't aware of how I asked for it cooked . It took ages to bring a new one by which time my friend had completed eaten hers. We complained to another waiter also about the chips as the menu described then as skin on but these are clearly frozen bought chips with no skin insight. He also said if we wanted it on a hot stone we should have asked for this, but the menu and website just says this is how it comes for a unique dining experience. Clearly the chef didn't have time to get the hot stones ready or just couldn't be bothered. New steak finally comes and is rare but completely unseasoned so I ate it but definitely only memorable for the wrong reasons. Our first waitress knew we were unhappy and was really nice and apologetic, but it I felt like other staff just didn't care and didn't want to be there and this poor girl is trying her best with no support. In the end we finished the wine, paid the bill and left. I am rating one star because of how this was dealt with by the couldn't careless attitude, nonchalant chef and the fact the menu is misleading as to what you get. First and last time; shame as I think this place with the right staff would be amazing.

Been meaning to write this review for sometime and I’ve finally had 5 mins to type it up. Have visited this restaurant twice over the last two months and can honestly say it’s some of the best food I’ve eaten out. We first visited this restaurant with family and had a lovely meal and found all of the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. On our second visit it was my birthday so we treated ourselves to the tomahawk steak. It was cooked to perfection. And again the staff was amazing and made my birthday on fireworks night even more special. I didn’t get all of the names of the staff but to Sophie who cooked our steak and the others, Paul, Jamie and Ella, thank you all so much for a lovely experience. We will be back again real soon.

Went in for a Sunday roast and steak. Young girl came over and took our order - didn’t ask how I would want my steak then forgot to ask what I want for my side and if I wanted any sauce with the steak. Then proceeded to tell me that you had to pay more for sides when the menu said otherwise so clearly doesn’t know the menu. The restaurant wasn’t busy but forgot to bring the second round of drinks over. Food was lovely couldn’t complain. When the waitress collected the plates she didn’t ask if we want dessert but ‘do you want the bill yet’ as we could see the kitchen was closing but was never told about that. When the bill came up I asked to remove the tip as she didn’t deserve the tip for being so rude so proceeded to throw the new bill on the table and walk off.

Had a lovely dinner with kids tonight. Food was delicious, plates were hot, waiters were attentive and service was excellent. Really enjoyed our steak, salmon and kids' burger. My daughter said she had the best brownie in her life here. Enjoyed our visit and will come again.🙂

We arrived and was greeted by a very lively lady who seated us vey quickly. We then had Sophie look after us who was Amazing, her knowledge of the cocktails 🍹 👌 was top notch. All round great experience! Will definitely be back.

I was looking for a great steak, and this place offered a selection, served either on hot stones, or cooked to your liking. B likes seafood and fresh local fish was on the menu for her. My ham hock starter was absolutely sublime, and B's white crab salad was excellent too, but the accompanying home made bread was either overbaked or actually burned underneath. I chose a 10oz ribeye steak - £26 - with thrice cooked chips and a blue cheese sauce and asked for medium rare... B's local sea bream was nice, but the potato rosti was overcooked. My steak arrived cooked medium... no rare anywhere. The chips tasted of cooking oil... not pleasant. The steak was otherwise unremarkable ... edible but unmemorable in either taste or texture. My dessert of Eton Mess just wasn't, and, again, the meringue tasted oily... B's mango and coconut panna cotta was good... Coffee unremarkable... English beer only in bottles... small glass sauvignon white requested, large glass delivered. Staff largely young, delightful, but inexperienced... Total cost £114...

Nice place, good food, a bit expensive and poor customer service. Waiting for more than 30 minutes (a few tables were occupied) I asked one of the waitresses how much time it will take. She answered 20-30 minutes. I said we are waiting for more than 30 minutes and with this I caused her displeasure. She told me that she is a human and deserve a human treatment and if I continue to be rough she will kick me out of the restaurant. None of the staff had a badge, her colleagues refused to tell me her name. Very inappropriately dressed, with this behaviour her place is not in this restaurant. I hope her manager will take action otherwise with staff like this lady the restaurant will be equated to a street kiosk.

Having dined in Traks who recommended we tried here as the Steak House that was is no longer, apparently a victim of Covid and social distancing we had expected something similar, sadly although the food was good the restaurant itself lacks any ambiance. Sadly being sited on the seafront we felt a little out of place dressed smart casual as most of the clientele were more used to eating in cut down jeans and beach clothes. I do not wish to appear snobbish but if you are paying £25+ for a Lava stone steak you would expect some kind of dress code, furthermore pepper and salt on the table or offered would also have been nice, having booked our table in advance we would have expected to be sat at a well presented and ready table at the time we arrived, sadly this was not the case! I do understand that being located on Southend Seafront has its drawbacks and challenges but if you are offering an quality menu you need to make the ambiance is right. Perhaps the restaurant could be divided in some way with dual entrances? Staff seemed very busy re-directing non users of the bar / restaurant to the public toilets across the road.

My partner and I had 2 lovely meals here , the food , drink and service was amazing. There is a great little wine list and lovely cocktails . We also asked the waiter to call us a cab but because it was taking so long the waiter offered to take us home in his car . Honestly this place is amazing and I highly recommend coming . The service here was mostly good (although a little slow and forgetful), but the food was quite average - acceptable burgers which were curiously priced (veggie burger cost more than the meat burgers, and neither came with chips - £3.50 extra).
