1858 is great for people with allergies. My husband is gluten and lactose free. They were brilliant. They came and told him exactly what he could have on the menu and how the chef would all trip for him. The food was fantastic. The service was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and we definitely go back again certainly recommended

Since opening in late 2023 this place has gone from strength to strength very quickly, gaining a reputation for its Sunday dinners and other foods on its divers menu, we have had the pleasure of dining in the old vault room as well as the main restaurant, the vault room is ideal for small parties of people up to 8 if dining, the main bar area is spacious with nice background music

Booked a table for 7:30pm for our friends birthday, arrived and ordered main courses. By 8:50pm still no sign of any food. Was told several times another ten min wait but no food arrived. We got up and left in the end. Felt sorry for the front of house staff who were getting grief from a few tables but clearly something had gone wrong in the kitchen as only four tables waiting for food. Shame as it was our first visit but won’t try it again

The restaurant is set out very well and looks fantastic. Service was poor, no - one seemed interested, atmosphere was flat. One bathroom was out of order and another the flush didn't work properly. Did look at the menu but thought it seemed extremely expensive (the drinks were also expensive). Another place with all the glamour and no substance unfortunately. Far better places in Knaresbrough.

Just had a wonderful experience this evening with friends at 1858 Spent many months walking passed waiting for the right occasion to visit .. from the moment you enter the restaurant and bar, one feels special. The decor is superb. The 8 of us were looked after by Josh Jay and Sam. The service was friendly and polite The food was extremely well presented with fantastic flavours. The staff wanted to ensure those with food intolerances were catered for. Many dishes can be adapted to gluten free . There have been various reviews of which I am aware have not always been positive but I can only speak as I find. The staff could not do enough for us to ensure our evening was special. The quality throughout was of a high standard and as such have no reservation in recommending this venue. Thank you team

Visited for lunch with a friend. Immediately welcomed as I entered; venue is interesting being a former bank with interiors designed to a high standard. Very reasonable prices with great food, lots of choice and attentive staff who couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely visit again.

A delicious meal at my former bank, now stylishly converted. We had the early bird menu with lightly spiced Thai fishcakes on crispy salad to start, with mains of chicken supreme and the burger. Great value! Excellent service with attentive staff. We'll definitely go again

Myself and a few other family members (a table of 4) visited here just yesterday for the first time. My Aunt has been here previously for drinks with a couple of her friends and she highly recommended we visit for a Sunday lunch. We did just that yesterday and I have nothing but good things to say about the place! Two of us ordered the pork belly and although the size of the pork couldn’t quite fill someone, the “sides” were phenomenal. We gave lots of compliments on the gravy as we couldn’t quite grasp the idea that it was only meat juices! My Aunt believes they must have used marmite in there to give it a gorgeous taste. I ordered the sirloin of beef and with that came just the right amount of meat. My favourite side was either the cheesy cauliflower or the roasted potatoes. I don’t understand how they can make the potatoes so crisp but so fluffy at the same time. My partner ordered the half roast chicken and the plate was practically licked clean. Our servers were Rachel and Laura and we can’t thank them enough for their pleasant service. If our bellies had a little more room in them, we most likely would have gone for a dessert too. The food here is such great quality and it is definitely worth a visit! Compliments to the chef(s) !!

Visited with friends for an evening meal. I had been previously and loved the Chicken supreme so had this again and recommended to my friends. 3 of us had the same and were so dissapointed. It was a small chicken leg on the bone with hardly any meat. I small carrot and parsnip 2 tiny leeks and 2 small pototoes for£22 The sauce had hardly any mushrooms. Chicken supreme shouldbe a chicken breast. Totally different to the time I had had this dish previously. My friend sent hers back and a member if staff bought her some fries. My husband and I ate ours as we were so hungry. The staff did not charge for one meal and the fries and discounted the bill by 10%. However we felt this was not enough. Definitely won't visit again

Fairly newly opened, good food served by very nice staff. Having booked for 1.00pm at restaurant's request rather than earlier, and having pre-ordered meals, starters arrived 1.40pm. I hope initial teething troubles and if they speed up could be successful.

Some friends and I ate at the new 1858 in Knaresborough last night and I really like to be fair but it was utterly disastrous from start to finish. After being seated it took an hour for our order to be taken, then 10mins later we were told there were no mussels (3 out of 5 had ordered mussels). Then another 50 mins later the food did arrive and 2 of meals were cold, we sent them back and they were taken off the bill which was fair enough but the staff couldn’t care less. The waitress brought our food to our table and didn’t even apologise for the wait, just plonked it down. We had to go to the bar for our drinks also and again was a wait each time. Appreciate they were clearly short staffed but an acknowledgement and apology wouldn’t have gone a miss. Certainly won’t be returning.

We live locally and had heard very mixed reviews about this new bar/ restaurant. Still, we went with an open mind and we all loved 1858. Firstly, the interior of this beautiful building Is stunning, just gorgeous. Staff were very warm and welcoming. We did have a bit of a wait for food, but if gorgeous ingredients are cooked from fresh then nobody minds that too much. The food was absolutely delicious. Starters of goats cheese and beetroot, duck scotch egg and arranchini were so tasty. My main course of steak was simply one of the I’ve ever eaten. Seafood linguine and a dish of corn fed chicken were greatly enjoyed by our party. Will most definitely be back. Well done team.

Stunning eggs Benedict from Knaresborough’s most recent eatery serving brunch. The staff were friendly, welcoming and service minded. The Americano coffee was lovely and is a place that I will return to at the next opportunity. The lunch and dinner menus look appealing and interesting and warrant a further visit. I hope this great new addition gathers a foothold in Knaresborough.

Terrible food !!! I had the sea food linguine it tasted like someone had bolied some pasta poured over a tin of tasteless tinned tomatoes and thrown some frozen sea food in there wasn't any flavour at all . My husband had the steak it was tiny thin and he couldn't chew it it was so tuff . When our bill came it was over by £9 as they had charged us £36 for a £26 bottle of wine . Staff were ok but when I complained nothing was done not even the manager came to see what the problem was would never go again .

We were excited to try this new restaurant/bar in Knaresborough. The building has been beautifully restored and it has been finished to a high standard and is very trendy. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. However, we waited over an hour and half for our food. When we were seated we ordered drinks but no one throughout our time waiting for our meal offered us any more drinks. The staff were friendly, however they were quite young and seemed to be missing a manager type figure to give them direction. On the plus side when the food came it was tasty (we both had steak). No one asked us how our food or experience was when paying our bill. I really hope this new restaurant does well but unfortunately won’t be rushing back.

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

Where do I start.. venue is beautiful and looks amazing! Forhat was our waiter and he was always checking our food and drinks were ok and could not do more for us! The espresso martinis were the best we have both ever had and food exceeded expectations! Overall an amazing experience and we will definitely be revisiting!
