We were passing and stopped in. Such a fantastic deli. The lady behind the counter was very friendly, very knowledgeable & everything we bought was delicious. Highly recommended.

As it is also a deli I wanted to buy Edinburgh butter to take back to England and it was the nearest place to where I was staying that sold it. The man who served me was very helpful and polite.

Just the best deki around. So many great choices of fresh food, home baking and unusual food gifts. There is a small cafe area for a coffee and cake.

As an Edinburgh local, this is a great find! They stock some amazing quirky products that you wouldn't find in your average shop. I bought some of the shortbread from Fife and some of the cheese sables. Karly, our tour guide along with the owner talked about the ethos of the deli and how community based it is. I will definitely be going back!

This was a super little find which I came across on a walking tour in Edinburgh called ‘aweetasteofEdinburgh’ which the guide Karly was amazing. Such a lovely family run business and great fresh products. Little seating area for you to sit in and have a coffee which I prefer to look after small local business rather than the big chains. Owner took the time to go over the history of the shop and how they came to owning it which was a lovely touch. Black pudding scotch eggs are unreal .... everyone must try these.

This a lovely little deli that I visited in June through Karly’s walking food and drink tour. We tried a homemade traditional scotch egg (I’d only ever had the supermarket ones before) and it was delicious! This is a definite must for anyone looking for good, fresh and local British fayre!

What a great deli with such passionate and knowledgeable staff. The scotch egg and traditional pork pie were absolutely delicious! I was unaware that this place existed until I came in as part of a walking food and drink tour organised by Karly. I will definitely be going back!

I discovered this wonderful little deli at the end of June on Karly’s walking food and drink tour. The first thing you notice is the abundance of quirky jams, pickles and chutneys that line their shelves. 181 stock an array of local and foreign artisanal products that you wouldn’t find in a supermarket. We tried a traditional scotch egg which was delicious. 5 stars!

What a wonderful little deli, discovered when I was part of Karly's 'A Wee Taste of Edinburgh' food and drink tour. The staff were really accommodating even though the place was very busy and the homemade food we were offered was so so very tasty. Would definitely recommend popping in to see what delicacies are available.....

I was introduced to 181 Delicatessen as part of the 'A Wee Taste of Edinburgh' food tour. The owners were lovely, and all the food was excellent. My personal favourites were the different varieties of scotch eggs, which I never knew could be so good.

When I won a voucher for lunch at this place I had never heard of it or even noticed it despite being in an area of town I know well. 181 Delicatessen is easy to walk past, being a small narrow shopfront in a busy street. However I won’t make that mistake again. It’s a fabulous little cafe/deli with only a few tables at the back and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Our lunch was delicious; we chose meat and cheese platters which had a great assortment of tasty treats. The deli at the front of the cafe was constantly busy and there was some really nice tableware and artisan foods for sale too. The cakes were fabulous too.

As a Bruntsfield local, this is my go-to coffee and cake stop! Love the range of homemade treats available to satisfy my very sweet tooth with a cup of fantastic coffee or tea. Highly recommend the fresh-out-the-oven scones - a different flavour each day! And exquisite jam... Go try it for yourself!

This is a great little deli with a good range of cheese and excellent dried sausage, I also bought some really nice bread last time I was in. The little cafe section at the back serves great food, both savoury food and also interesting cakes / scones - the only problem is that the cafe is rather small. The owner is really nice and helpful, and always seems to have new things to try.

This deli has bountiful amounts of interesting foods. All sourced with great skill by the owner who knows a thing or two about it having worked in the industry for a good long while. There is a small cafe at the back where one can drink their exquisite coffee and sample(amongst other savoury things) the cake of the day. But I have eaten their gorgeous olives , tried their curry kits, eaten their handmade salted caramel chocolates with honey (yum yum) tried amazing biscuits and generally the place is a cornucopia of amazing finds. Visit!

First visit to newish (opened Aug'14) deli on Bruntsfield Place and very impressed. Very personal touch from owners Michael and Charlotte. The food was excellent (recommend the charcuterie selection) and well priced, especially the coffees. Décor is very tasteful . The real attraction is numerous local artisan products on sale e.g. at least two ranges of chocolates made at Marchmount and Morningside. Go try it and support a local business not a multi-national Costa, Caffe Nero or Starbucks !

Last year, mum and I found Max Bakes. Mum had haggis and black pudding and I had feta and spinach. I had never had haggis or black pudding (always put off by the ingredients 🤦♀️) I tried mums and vice versa...both were delicious! This year we planned to hunt Max Bakes down, worrying he may not be here this year, and much to our delight we found him in the exact same spot! (later we found out he is a permanent fixture not just for The Fringe) We order two haggis and black pudding rolls and they were as good as we remembered! Two very happy travellers 😁

Super little cafe, welcoming and well run. Dog friendly. Menu is limited however, if they're not too busy, other options are available on request such as full English breakfast. No obvious vegan options, other than toast. Oat milk available and gluten free bread. Freshly cooked food and really nice coffee. Full of locals, which is always a good sign!
